January 8, 2011 - 7 Night Western Caribbean Sailing

Wow! $499 and you get a refrigerator stocked with soda....Hmmm, I might pass on that and walk over to the soda fountain. Those better be some nice cabanas!

Anyone booked a hotel for Port Canaveral yet?

Just reserved our room at the Radisson ...booked the first shuttle of the morning. I'm ready to go!

This will be my first time in each of the ports and I'm wondering if anybody has any suggestions regarding what to do. I've looked through all the port adventures on the DCL website, but I'm finding it difficult to make any decisions!

Has anybody on this board made any plans yet? I can't book any until 10/10, but I like to plan ahead

We did this cruise last year, so I'm happy to share what we did.

In Key West, upon getting off the boat, we first visited the Pirate Soul Museum, which was a HUGE WASTE of money. I'd avoid that at all costs. Sorry Pat (Croce, who is a big name here in Philadelphia), but it was not what it's built up to be. We ended up walking around (I'd been there several times before for business -- that sounds funny, doesn't it? One doesn't equate Key West with business) and visited the Hemingway House, which I'd been to previously. I am not a shopper, but I enjoyed looking in the various shops at some unique local crafts.

Key West is also a good place to stock up on things you may have forgotten at home, as there's a CVS within site of the ship. Don't be surprised to run into Cast Members doing the same thing!

This year, we'll do the Old Town Trolley, visit HH again, and the Truman White House (been there before and just love it). Also, PLAN A STOP at the Blonde Giraffe (there seem to be several locations) for Frozen Key Lime Pie on a Stick. It's far better than anyone would believe possible.

In Cozumel, we took the half day Mayan Ruins tour, which was really interesting, and then spent the other half of the day walking up the main shopping street until we found Pancho's Backyard, a delightful cantina at the end of the road. The food, service and atmosphere are all wonderful.

This year, we're heading straight for Pancho's. It's housed in a building with lots of little shops before you get to Pancho's. We need to stock up on more pure vanilla extract!

In Grand Cayman, we did the half day dolphin swim and visit to the turtle farm. LOVED BOTH! My daughter and I had swum with dolphins in Nassau but this was a new experience for my husband. Words don't do the experience justice. Afterward, we went across the street to the turtle farm, which I thought would be boring, but we had such a great time there. We ended the day with lunch at Margaritaville (don't do it, soooo expensive with the exchange rate and the food was unremarkable, which was a shock, as I've been to the chain before).

This year, we're not decided on what to do in Grand Cayman as yet -- so we're looking for ideas, too!

Laura, I think I'm going to secretly stalk you in Key west lol. We had planned the trolley ride and I even found an on line ticket that was a bit cheaper and might have even be free for my son.
I forget what all My Dh had decided for the rest but we will have to keep it at a slower pace then we would if we didn't have the munchkins. I'm thinking the turtle farm was one of them and a ruins tour too. DS has endless energy and we have a backpack for DD to ride in so the ruins should be ok.
I'm getting super excited, once I get through this weekend I'm going to start the packing process. Then I need to see if I can get the rest of the FE group to give me their info so I can get started on the FE gifts and DD's duck costume.:cloud9: (Halloween)
Before long the holidays will be on us then it will just be a complete blur till the cruise. I'll be soooooo ready to relax.

Key West- I don't know what we'll do. Probably not much. May check out the street vendors around the Sunset Festival...

Grand Cayman - DH and I are divers and have friends on the Island. What I'd love to do is call Don Foster's and book a dive. However, since it's a family trip we'll do a snorkel/Stingray City trip. I'd like to book it privately, if not, I have a friend who's a videographer for Captain Marvins...we'll see but that is our definite plan for the day.

Cozumel- Just spent 11 days there diving. It was about 9 days too long for me. I'd stay on the ship if I had my druthers, but we'll probably do a beach day with the girls if weather permits.

Laura, I think I'm going to secretly stalk you in Key west lol.

I think I might just do the same.

The more we talk about the various excusions, the more we're inclined to either relax on the beaches or just browse the shops.

Hey all! We are looking into this sailing, it will be out 8th with DCL. Dds are both in college now and want to sail DCL again and school doesnt start until Jan 22nd for them. Now we usually sail Thanksging or the week after....yes one of the original "Turkey day' cruisers. Western isn't our favorite but DW can get some more black gold in Cozumel.....the sailing is reasonable compared to what it is Thanksgiving week....well we'll decide her in the next couple of days!

can we get an update on the FE list? :surfweb: specifically all the kids and ages?

My hubby is 31 and this will be my 30th bday cruise! Cloe will be 7 and Massimo (Moose) will be 4.

Yay!! :woohoo:starting to talk with hubby about gifts. Does anyone have any allergies?

:goodvibesTIA

We just booked! This will be our first Disney Cruise. We would like to be part of the FE!
Myself-Anna, DH-Nick, DD(4)-Claire, DD(2)-Audra - GTY Deck 6 or 7
My Mom-Jean, My sister(18)-Julie - #7629

Look forward to meeting you all!

I will update the list tomorrow. I have it upstairs on the other computer!

Sooo the Mayan Tour, was it through Disney? Was it more walking or more riding? Dud you get good pictures? My DH wants to see some ruins or pyrimids or something.

In Key west I want to do the trolley tour and get Key Lime Pie on a stick. MMM

Grand Cayman, not sure!

Thanks for the input!

After loads of research, I'm narrowing my choices down. In Key West, I definitely plan on the trolley tour, with a possible stop at the Hemingway House. And, of course key lime pie!!!

Cozumel--both my son and I are interested in a ruins tour. I'm just not sure which one to choose yet.

Grand Cayman--we're probably going to spend the day at the beach.

:hyper::hyper: I'm so ready for this trip I could explode from the anticipation! :hyper::hyper:

:goodvibes Come on everyone!!! Need ages of kiddos and names for everyone...:surfweb:

Ddpaints, would you send me your list of peoples info for your FE gift idea?

ASLO SUPER IMPORTANT!!! Any allergies!!???

:woohoo: I am so excited I can't wait for this cruise...it will be so great to get away!!!

I'll need to set down and figure it out. I need to still get a bunch of the new people's favorite colors, characters and room numbers. I may just start sending out PM's to those I know are doing FE but haven't gotten to me yet. Some people might not have it set up to receive e-mails when there is a new response.:upsidedow
I have a busy next 2 weeks so it might take me a bit to get you my list.:)

For us..... I (Donella) am turning 36 on Sun DH (Geoff) will be 37 by cruise time DS (Logan) will still be 4 and DD (Jordan) will be 23 months at time of sailing (she turns 2 the end of Jan). We have no allergies in our family although we haven't tried peanut butter on DD yet.

:rotfl:I just realized...I don't think we answered!!

I like Tink or the Cheshire Cat (original), my favorite color is bright blue-CM
Rick likes the Mad Hatter (original) sour apple green- FM
Cloe likes Ariel and pink- CSM
Massimo's favorites are Tigger and orange- MGM
TIA for the work for the list...

SOO excited!!!

Good idea and something I was wondering myself.

How about Thanksgiving (or that weekend)?

That gives us 6 weeks prior to sailing.

We would like to participate in the FE group. Here are the names and ages of the folks in cabin 7126:
Gil - 39
Gay - 38
Noelle - 6
