January 8, 2011 - 7 Night Western Caribbean Sailing

Our cruise is filling up...category 4B is now GTY and 6A seems to be restricted to Deck 5...I think the higher decks sell out more quickly..we however love Deck 5. We were hoping to upgrade at the Port so I hope we still will be able to..we loved 4B last time..
Our son is still planning to go to WDW with us for a few days but really does not want to cruise...unless someone his age is cruising..any 30 somethings yet?

Ahoy, Mateys!

Looking over the list, I see a number of kids without an age or name/gender.
Since I'm planning to tailor my FE gifts accordingly, that information would be very helpful. I'm not sure a teen or infant would appreciate a coloring book or stickers for example.

Here's my FE info:
Tara (me) - 32. Initials - TS. Favorite characters: Figaro, Dumbo, Chip & Dale. Favorite color: purple.
Caleb (son) - 7. Initials - CS. Favorite characters: Pluto, Mickey, Donald. Favorite color: red.

I don't know my cabin number yet. :)

DisneyGyrl I also need favorite Disney Character, Fav color, initials (first and last) and room number if you have one for my FE gifts for each person.
Anyone that hasn't seen my previous post about this if you could forward this info that would be great.
Sir William I will say that my DD that will be 23 months at time of sailing (turns 2 Jan 30) does love to color although her brother did not until this year. I guess the difference between girls and boy :confused3

In a big compromise ( by me ) we have moved our January cruise to RCCL. DD really wanted to sail the Freedom and so did Angus.

So, no DCL for me until the Dream in 2011. Hope everyone has a wonderful cruise and I wish you all the best.

Hey guys I found out some info today!

1st - You can NOT book the cabana until you get on the ship and the cost is $499 for 6 people.

2nd - Night 3 is Formal Night, Night 5 is Pirate Night and Night 6 is Semi Formal Night / Captains Dinner.

I also found out there are 3 dining rotations: PLAAPLA, LAPPLAP & APLLAPL. We requested APLLAPL because we are eating in Palo on the 4th night and this is the night of the rotational dining in Lumier's and that is my least favorite.

P= Parrot Cay, L= Lumier's & A= Animator's Pallet.

There is also a Brunch in Palo on the two days at sea and Tea on the two days at sea. We signed up for both. Brunch is my favorite in Palo, even more so then dinner. We have never done the tea, but I thought it would be fun to try!

Nice to know the schedule. How were you able to request your dining room assignment?

We'd like to have brunch, tea and dinner at Palo's as well. I'd like to do brunch on one sea day and tea on the other, but I've no idea when to try and schedule dinner. Probably won't have much choice anyway as we can't schedule anything until the 25th.

You can have your Travel Agent (I am a travel agent so I did it for myself) request it for you. I guess you can call the Cruise number if you booked yourself to request it. I don't have the number here, but I will PM it to you.

To request your Palo, do it right after midnight for the best luck! Also head to the desk when you get on the ship and they can move you around. DON"T book the brunch and dinner the same day, or even back to back if you can help it....sooo much food!

Thanks. Since we booked through DVC, I suspect we'll have to do it ourselves.

Already determined I wanted to to the brunch, tea and dinner on different days - or at least many hours apart if I have to schedule two on the same day.

I made the mistake once of doing brunch and dinner in the same day. TOO MUCH FOOD!

Lisa -- thanks for providing info on the different nights. We like to do Palo on the semi-formal night of the Captain's dinner as you can get lobster in Palo as well AND I won't have to dress up a third time that week :yay:. I may even go really wild and have TWO panna cottas this time.

The tea is good but not as exciting as the brunch. Last time, many of us had a difficult time trying to book tea but we waited til on board and then a bunch of us ladies were able to book a table for 8 or 9 and had a lovely time. Don't think my husband missed it as he did the beer tasting, but if we try to do that again this time and open it up to everyone, he'd love to come.

Is it 100 days today?

I lived in England when I was in high school, and DW went to a term at Oxford during college, and we've been to the UK many times over the years, so we like to have tea when possible. When we visit the UK we usually try and have tea at least once, and more if time permits.

I'll probably skip the beer tasting but I'll definitely be at the whiskey tasting!

Ahhh, Bill, more in common as I lived in England as well. Tea is not quite the same, but still good. I miss Newens at Kew especially as the days turn cooler, sigh.

Now the question is "when and where?"

I was there in 1969-70. Lived in Essex and Oxfordshire, went to school in Suffolk. I tended to get to London about once a month - it was and still is one of my favorite cities (and I'm not overally fond of cities). I've forgotten the number of times we've been back but our last time was to Scotland last summer.

I agree that tea outside of the UK, or at least the Commonwealth, doesn't quite feel the same, but we'll take our chances on the Magic. We could find it quite enjoyable, and if not, then we don't have to do it the next time we sail.

YAY!!! We just booked our cruise!! :woohoo: This will be our 3rd cruise, the first 7 nighter though, so we are sooo excited!!

It's for my 30th bday! Yikes. LOL

Oh..lol, and also- We are from Gainesville, VA :goodvibes

I was looking back at some of the older posts and just saw this. We're in Fairfax, just up the road apiece from you. We go through Gainesville on our way to Charlottesville (our DD recently graduated from UVA and our DS is there now).

DW will be celebrating her birthday on the cruise as well, though its actually two weeks after we return (and mine is two weeks after that).

Our first "ocean" cruise, though we have made a 7-day cruise down the Mississippi and a 5-day cruise down the Ohio (both times on paddlewheelers). I'm not counting the cruises I took courtesy of the Navy (in which case I've more in common with the CM than the passengers).

Bill -- You were in England at a VERY COOL time. I was there later, from 1983 to 1992. Initially, I was on a student work exchange program and then followed Springsteen all over Europe. At that point, I met my now ex-husband and stayed til we moved to Orlando.

I started out in Chelsea, part of London, then moved to Cranford near Heathrow, Woking in Surrey and finally to Chesham in Buckinghamshire. I worked all over from London to Gerrards Cross, High Wycombe and Rochester. I do miss it -- a LOT.

You WILL enjoy tea on DCL. It's just not 'quite the same' and you'll know what I mean. At least the scones are round and not these triangle contraptions they like to call scones here.

Laura,

I can see that we'll have all sorts of things to talk about! I don't know as it was a VERY COOL time but I do remember watching Charles made the Prince of Wales on live TV, Monty Python was one of my favorite TV shows, and the IRA was very active in London. I also accidentally got within touching distance of the Queen and Omar Sharif one day - a fun story best told with drinks in hand!

Ah...scones and clotted cream! :cloud9::love::thumbsup2
