We are flying down. We have hundreds of thousands of Delta points and actually cashed in some points and paid part for the tickets - we ended up getting five tickets for under $300 and that includes checking 5 bags so it just wasn't worth it to drive - we would have spent that much in gas and a hotel on the way down (we split the trip into two and stop in SC).
Unless the weather looks AT ALL iffy. Then we will be calling to change our flights to earlier or jumping in the car Thursday night!! It is nice to know that (minus traffic) we can jump in the car and drive straight through and be there in 13 hours. Except for traffic

We drove down last year on the Monday before Thanksgiving. We were a little late leaving but were still on the road by 3:30. At 5 we had travelled exactly 19 miles and still weren't to Fredricksburg!!
There are a couple of schools right by the mall. It isn't our "neighborhood" school - DS switched to the GT program this year and this is the GT school for our area. They do bus him from our neighborhood, which is nice, but because they have to stop at so many neighborhoods because the GT program pulls from over 10 elementary schools it is a long bus ride. He gets out at 3:50 and is supposed to be home at 4:35, however, the bus can hit traffic depending upon accidents on 95S and he can get home as late as 5. Since I can pick him up at 3:50 and we can be home by 4 I do that a lot. It is just funny how much time I spend driving around the Springfield Mall - I probably drive right by your sister's house!! Between that and my many, many trips to the Michaels right by the mall, I am there A LOT!
It is SUCH a small world - seems like a majority of our little group are from Michigan, Ontario or Quebec Canada, and Northern VA! It must be a combination of school holidays, good deals, and just general ease of getting to Florida at this time of year. it is pretty tough to get to FL from the West Coast so probably not as appealing!!
