January 2010. . . Anyone else going???

Thanks Monny!

When DH and I were first dating, we were supposed to go Pres. Weekend in Feb. Our flight was cancelled (probably evening) by mid-afternoon--big snow. Disney and AA were both very nice about refunding. We were able to reschedule for a longer trip in June (people on these board still talk about the heat of June 2000).

What was the weather like at the end of Jan?

We went this past January, and NO we didn't get snowed in (our temps were in the 80's most days, 60's the day we left) but our drive home was horrible. There were power outages in Kentucky (we'd heard about the storms earlier that week but "assumed" they were cleared), couldn't find a place to get gas, couldn't see more than a foot in front of us on the hwy. I guess we SHOULD have stayed one more day, maybe the ride home wouldn't have been so crappy!

We were there the same time last Jan too and drove home through Kentucky. We were driving through about Feb 5/6 and the power lines and trees were still down! Luckily the weather had gotten better so driving wasn't a problem.
I always worry about being able to get to WDW since we live in Winter Wonderland!! I never would feel bad if I got stuck at WDW, but it would probably be at the airport because a flight was canceled! :(

Thanks everyone for the well wishes! I still have a little hair left, I was proactive and cut it all off when I started (not shaved, just a short style). It helps hide the thinning as you loose it. The funny part, and how do I put this in a PG rated version.... you loose your hair everywhere, not just on your head. I wasn't prepared for that!:scared1: Sorry for that one guys, just a bit of chemo humor.:rotfl: Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

My thoughts and prayers are with you!

And let me tell you, my mom had breast cancer and had to go through chemo/radiation.... she said the lack of hair was the BEST thing to happen! After showers she was just too exhausted to do anything with it, due to the chemo, she couldn't wait for it all to fall out - she shaved her head and didn't look back!!

Although, I didn't know *everything* fell out... haha... maybe I'll ask Mom how she handled that one... lol

We went this past Jan (2009)(20th-24th)BWV and loved it. Although the weather was only in the 60's day and 50's at night, it was better that the 20's up in the northern states. We are planning another trip this (Jan 13-18)BCV. Last trip was solo, this year we are bringing the young adult men 16 and 18. We are also bringing my wife's sister who is a newbie. I find that the Jan trip is a way to break up the cold winters in the north. Even if it is only in the 60's in WDW it is fun just to be there and being a kid again. We have made trips in September and November and June these past years, and all were fun and enjoyable. It seems much nicer when we are walking around in shorts and t-shirt while everyone else up north is down parka's on. . Its about around 176 days to go and I am looking forward to it with great joy:banana:

Mommytobree - you can book room only now; I booked a few months ago. When the package rates come out next month you can switch and they will refund your deposit. You put down a new deposit for the new reservation.

We were able to book a package through the Disney Marathon pages. We will be there the 7th-16th and had no problem booking online for those dates.

I was wondering how many people are waiting to book rooms. I haven't yet and I'm just nervous about limited availability if I wait. Anyone have experience with this?

I booked my resies today! Want to make sure we get what we need in terms of space....We truely are Snowbirds....Alaskan ones......

Just made it official today! Booked air and room for Jan 30-Feb 6th :cool1: We are staying at POP for the first time. This will be a Christmas present for the kids, so I will have to keep it a secret until then!!

Wish my parents had given ME a Christmas present like that. AWESOME! You will have a blast preparing for it and keeping it secret.

This time we are waiting until at least the package prices come out before we commit to going. Last year our trip was a gift from my parents and we were given xxxamount of cash and were able to book exactly what we wanted in advance! This time we are completely on our own dime! Gotta wait for those Deals!

If there is something you really want, ie a savannah view at AKL or an MK view at Poly or something I would go ahead and make a Room only ressie right now! When I booked our RO in March last year for this past January they had oodles of rooms available! When I called to turn it into a package the CM told me it was a good thing I had made a RO cause they were booked solid for our dates! This was at POFQ! When the 4/3 deal came out though we actually ended up switching to WL so it didn't matter anyway! We couldn't stay at POFQ cause they didn't have all our dates available under the 4/3 pkg!

so long story short, if there is something you really want and have your heart set on, save yourself the disappointment and book a RO! If you are okay with taking whatever is available, wait it out! Package rates for 2010 will be out in about 2-3 weeks!

I would book as soon as you can! We tried to book BLT standard view, but they were booked, so we did lake view.

This is our forth January in a row and we have booked no earlier than September and as late as the middle of November and have never had an issue getting the room we wanted (all the way down to the little "requests"). We usually wait until the packages come out like the stay 4 get 3 free.

Your experiences may vary depending on what you want. It might be different if the type of room you want is very limited (a certain view or something). Don't let Disney fool you, January is a slow time. That's why they offer the best deals during January, part of February etc. We're not sure if they only open small blocks of rooms early to get people to book or what, but there always seems to be plenty of rooms.

No matter when you book, good luck to everyone getting the rooms they want.pixiedust:

Edit: And for those of you that have already booked and didn't get the room you wanted, keep checking as Disney tends to "open up" more rooms as January gets closer.

We'll be there Jan 21-31 :cheer2: Our second time going and second time surprising the kids for Christmas ;)

So far we are booked at the Treetops but I really have to change that, not happy with the looonnnggg walk i've heard about.

Thanks Monny!

It was varied- some days we wore shorts and were hot and others we were in pants and sweatshirts. I'm bringing a little of everything again. Layers are the key! ;)

Can January be booked now or do I have to wait for rates in August?

Joni I think you're right. It's amazing how they were booked already for some resorts when I called to make a room only ressie. They had rooms available for preferred rooms only- yeah right! I know they aren't THAT booked for January.
If a good package deal comes out in Oct/Nov then I'll switch it to a package. I think booking room only helped me get what I wanted when I switched last time. Others that were just calling to book for the first time couldn't get a room. :confused3

Congrats on booking!!! Our trip is a surprise for our kids too so I won't tell if you won't tell! :thumbsup2

Wow You don't get much more Snowbirdy than that! :scared: I love your screenname BTW- very appropriate!
What are your dates and hotel so we can get you added to the list?
The waiting is killing me...BRING ON THE RATES!!!:worship:
You said it sister! :goodvibes

Since it's the second time, do you think you'll have a harder time pulling it off?

Hi everyone!! At risk of sounding CRAZY!! I did receive a pin email. 40% off until Dec 23. We were originally planning to go jan 1-6. Due to school and DH vacation time.

Questions: 1. Is this deal worth pulling DS out of school during the Dec time to see WDW at Christmas time? (DS is 10 DD is 2)

2. Should we hold out for the hopeful 4/3 during January? DH will have more vacation time then as well........

Any advice would be appreciated....

Thanks guys!!

IMHO, Christmas is super magical at Disney! I wish we were going at Christmas time as it is my FAVORITE time to go..but alas, no vacation time left this year.
