It's Official...IT'S PALIN

Actually Maverick is a very fitting name for McCain right now. The way he just trumped Obama is classic. Here's Obama trying to enjoy the day after the biggest night in his life, and what happens - BAM, he get's knocked off the front page by this move.
Good thing for Obama and the people who support him that front page headlines aren't what we care about. We're thinking 5, 10 and 20 years into the future. Headlines don't make a country come back from financial ruin. Plans for the future that involve everyone working together as Americans do.

With this choice of a young mother of five who's only experience as a leader has been a one-term token woman governer of a cash-rich, low-population state, an Obama/Biden Administration is in the bag now.

A grateful country thanks you, John! :cheer2:

I think this will solidify the Republican votes but I don't think it will change many Democrat's minds. I don't think it will make Hilliary voters more likely to vote for McCain just because he has a woman VP candidate, especially when they hear her social views. I'm sure Hilliary will be out there this fall rallying her supporters to vote for Obama.

I've never heard of the woman and I'm willing to bet there''s a lot more like me out there. I see it as a crafted stunt and nothing more.

As much as I hate to say it, I think many people will base their decision on the VP choice and I think more will lean towards Biden.

Executive experience carries more weight. There are now two tickets for the presidency, and one of those tickets has executive experience on it.

I tend to agree. When was the last time the race was legislator vs. legislator? Not in my lifetime.

Wait, so Palin can give advice to McCain about how to be president because she is the one with "executive" experience? Isn't your argument negating his experience, putting more weight on her two years as governor over everyone else's years in Washington?

I am sure the four years she served as a City Council member will serve her well in the White House.

Actually, she was a mayor too. I've been to Alaska and witnessed Alaskan politics in action. If she made it to Governor through that mess, she'll be a great campaigner. I know nothing about her and am waiting until I have time to watch, read and listen. Still voting for Obama/Biden but I think McCain made an interesting choice. Speaking of Choice, how does Ms. Palin stand on women's issues? Anyone?

I guess the Republicans are going to stop screaming 'no experience' now. Palin would be 1st in line to be POTUS should a very old guy get sick quickly as they are known to do. She has NO experience.

She is pro-life.

If she was governor of New York for at least 4 years, I would agree her executive experience helps to be President. But not 2 years as governor of Alaska, I wouldn't even count city council or mayor.

Yes but you're comparing the editor of the New York Times to the publisher of the Pennysaver. We're talking Alaska here. Beautiful and wonderful state but not exactly a mecca of responsibility

Absolutely.

Front page headlines (or you could all them the Lead Stories, since we're also talking about TV broadcasts) are what politicians live for. Front page headlines are why they say the things they say. Front page headlines keep the candidate on people's minds, keeps them interested in what the candidate is doing and saying. Front page headlines help determine who will be in the office to shape that 5, 10 and 20 year future.
And what's really funny, the Democrats usually have the advantage of what gets put on the Front Page. ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, etc... are all much more liberal than conservative. So, for Palin to knock Obama off the front pages of these companies - yeah, that's big news.

I think this a brilliant move on McCains part. This is probably the smartest thing he has ever done.

Keep going. There may be some groups you haven't insulted yet!

This is the problem with the logic I keep seeing on these boards. Will you be voting for Obama who will be president (not VP) and has even less experience than she has. I think of the 4 canidiates he is the least ready to lead the free world.

Excuse me...but Sarah Palin has been my governor for 18 months and was my mayor for six years. How does that equal 4 years as a US Senator, eight years as a state legislator and 20 years as a community organizer? It's like taking the winning Pop Warner team quarterback and putting him in the starting position for an NFL Team.

Thank you for proving my point. McCain is trying to tap into that disgruntled Hillary supporter. Who will vote for him now, because there is a women on the ticket. Any women will do.

It doesn't really matter to these voters that Hillary and Sarah are polar opposites on the issues.

You can think this comment is sexist- but it really isn't. But, believe me there are women out there who think this way, and McCain is trying to tap into this. I agree it is a crafted stunt.

Whereas saying McCain is qualified to be President because of his time in the Senate is like saying the groundskeeper who's mowed the grass for 30 years is qualified to be the starting quarterback because he's worked in the stadium for so long.

Look, I LOVE Alaska and have many friends there. I've spent time sitting in their legislature and time sitting in the coffee shop in the hotel where the real business is conducted in Juneau. It's the kind of thing that causes one to spit their coffee while quietly listening. Serioiusly. Executive experience in Alaska is nothing compared to time in Washington playing with the big boys. Besides, I don't think we can even talk about 'experience' until we really find out more about her.
