It's Official...IT'S PALIN

:rotfl:

Put that on a bumper sticker and try to sell it to the GOP faithful!! ;)

No kidding! There's no way the GOP will package him for what he is.

It's like they say: Give the people a choice between a Democrat and a Democrat, and the Democrat will win everytime!

The pick is a definite all or nothing for ol' Maverick...

Many right wing pundits have excoriated her for her windfall profits tax on Alaskan oil companies that redistributed wealth to the citizens of Alaska as a reason against Obama's windfall profits taxes. I don't know why this pick is so exiting. Once fiscal conservatives get to know her, I have a feeling a number of the GOP faithful might not be so enchanted...

She looks nice on the surface, and she's a woman.

I never heard of her before today, so I guess she needs to make herself known to the country. I can't imagine she has a lot of baggage. Doesn't change my vote one way or the other, but I know people who were waiting for the VP to be announced before deciding and this is not giving them much confidence.

There's a bit of baggage:

Palin's term has not been without controversy. A legislative investigation is looking into allegations that Palin fired Alaska's public safety commissioner because he refused to fire the governor's former brother-in-law, a state trooper.

Palin acknowledged that a member of her staff made a call to a trooper in which the staffer suggested he was speaking for the governor.Palin has admitted that the call could be interpreted as pressure to fire state trooper Mike Wooten, who was locked in a child-custody battle with Palin's sister.

Doesn't sound like a huge deal, though.

This is the problem with the logic I keep seeing on these boards. Will you be voting for Obama who will be president (not VP) and has even less experience than she has. I think of the 4 canidiates he is the least ready to lead the free world.

She has less experience than Obama, which makes McCain quite the hypocrite, attacking Obama on his experience. But honestly, it's her positions I don't like, not her experience. But I expected that McCain would choose someone I would mostly disagree with.

If I'm not mistaken, Romney's term as Governor of Massachusetts wouldn't be called a blueprint for fiscal conservatism either. He did close a deficit, but also was also a lot of tax and fee raising that went with the budget cuts.

I don't know, if there's one thing that Mitt knows, it's how to make bank. So the economic policies of both Palin and Romney are too liberal...which VP pick do you think could have given McCain help on the economic front?

Hmm, I believe this is the first smart choice McCain's made in regards to his campaign. A lot of Hillary supporters just want a woman in the white house, regardless of where they stand on the issues, unfortunately. It will give the impression that he actually "cares" about women's rights.

I was a Hilary supporter, but not just because she was a woman. Because I thought she would be the better pick - but Obama has 100% of my support. I will vote for him and am very excited to see what will happen when he wins. :thumbsup2

The one thing that I think will hurt this decision is her lack of national experience.

Let's face it, she will be one heartbeat away from Commander in Chief.

And McCain does turn 77 today!

McCain is 72 not 77

I thought it was 120?

go ahead, keep bashing older folks, it will play really well for the AARP type folks who vote in droves... I hope that Obama is stupid enough to critisize him about age. And that 65 year old candiate on the other side might also take offense as well.

Well, unless at the moment you're dealing with an unwanted pregnancy, it should not really affect you.

Well for some it effects them a great deal. I am very much pro life, I don't think that abortion should be illegal though either. Everyone gets to decide upon their own what is important to them or not though.

I haven't heard McCain say Obama doesn't have enough experience to even be vice president. Do you have a link?

Nice try, but she has a proven track record of accomplishments, unlike Obama.

:woohoo:

Found on Governing.Com

She is prolife, gov. from Alaska, elected in 2006

"The logic behind her as a running mate seems to be that she's a youthful, likeable outsider who would help John McCain attract female voters (she's due to give birth to her fifth child in May).

But really, John McCain is going to pick someone who has presided over a state of 683,000 people for a mere 16 months as the potential leader of the world's lone superpower." End of Quote.

I too believe McCain is trying to court the women's vote.
Other's he was vetting had much more experience.

He certainly does have a track record of accomplishments. But nice try on your part.

This pick makes McCain look like a hypocrite.

So you're a fiscal conservative and pro-choice...tell me, what exactly do you like about Palin again?

So you're a fiscal conservative and pro-choice...tell me, what exactly do you like about Palin again?

What do most Republicans KNOW about Palin? :rotfl:

All of a sudden, they're so excited about this veritable unknown. Why?

She has been Gov. for less than 2 years, and today McCain turns 72. This choice scares me, talk about inexperience!! I guess it just shows how little McCain has to offer that he would make a "surprise choice".

Of course it scares you. Right now she is in the catbird seat to be the first female potus. As a reluctant McCain supporter, or more accurately, an Obama detractor, I have some excitement in me.

The Maverick LIVES!!

Oh, and I forgot that 4 years on the "Committe on Foreign Relations" is nothing.

Obama worked for one year in the Senate before beginning to campaign full-time. One year plus his time in the State Senate. I think the Dems lose if they bring experience into the discussion.

What a guy, John McCain. He uses women.

He marries Cindy, after dumping his first wife, for her connections and resources to get him into politics.

Now he gives the nod for VP to unknown Gov. Sarah Palin, he does this only to court the women's vote.

Use your heads ladies, John McCain is nothing but a user.

What a party - the Democrats use a black man--dare I say make a slave out of him to win the White House.

Use your heads, myy statement is as dumb as yours.

Gotta love libs,, they love minorities and females UNTIL they are conservatives.

Regarding experience, which carries more weight:

Obama has seven years in the Illinois Senate, and three in the US Senate.

Palin has four years on a town council, was town mayor, and now governor of Alaska for two years.

I can't find anywhere the exact number of years she was mayor.

Right. Because a woman can never achieve anything on her own merits.

Your statement is extremely insulting to women everywhere.

/I know, I know. Don't feed the trolls . . . .

She is very inexperienced, compared to others he was vetting. Was she chosen for her experience, or because she is a women?
