It's Official...IT'S PALIN

So someone has already shown Sarah Palin how this can work. Her kids can have tutors and travel with her. Problem solved. Seriously, I can't even believe that would be an issue for anyone.

It's not an "issue" for me. It was simply something that came to mind when I saw she had young children, and 5 of them at that, since I'm a mother. That's all. It'll have no influence on my voting decision.

Yeah, I'm wired the same as you. No way, no how, was it ok for my DH to immediately go back to work. And if you make a point of saying "family values," it really bothers me when the politicians don't make their actions match that mantra.

By the way, google "ADN" Sarah Palin October 2006 creationism to get the source article. It was a REAL pain to trace back, and I have closed the window after reading her remarks. Everyone else is slightly altering her remarks, I think. I want to say the name of the paper is "Alaska Daily News" but I could be wrong.

Here ya go...

August 4, 2008, Fairbanks, Alaska - Governor Sarah Palin today responded to the energy plan put forward by the presumptive Democratic nominee for President, Illinois Senator Barack Obama.

“I am pleased to see Senator Obama acknowledge the huge potential Alaska’s natural gas reserves represent in terms of clean energy and sound jobs,” Governor Palin said. “The steps taken by the Alaska State Legislature this past week demonstrate that we are ready, willing and able to supply the energy our nation needs.”

In a speech given in Lansing, Michigan, Senator Obama called for the completion of the Alaska natural gas pipeline, stating, “Over the next five years, we should also lease more of the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska for oil and gas production. And we should also tap more of our substantial natural gas reserves and work with the Canadian government to finally build the Alaska natural gas pipeline, delivering clean natural gas and creating good jobs in the process.”

Governor Palin also acknowledged the Senator’s proposal to offer $1,000 rebates to those struggling with the high cost of energy.

“We in Alaska feel that crunch and are taking steps to address it right here at home,” Governor Palin said. “This is a tool that must be on the table to buy us time until our long-term energy plans can be put into place. We have already enjoyed the support of Alaska Senator Ted Stevens, and it is gratifying to see Senator Obama get on board.”

Thanks for posting the link Charade, and the directions Fizz. I read that article and am having a bit of trouble with seeing how the "Creationist" label sticks. She is in favor of having ID taught in school. That makes you a "Creationist"? Maybe I just misunderstand the definition, because if that's all it is then I have no problem with "Creationists". :confused3

BTW, just to save you OS some looking later on this evening... the answer is THREE. The Palins own THREE houses -one residential and two recreational

I'm chuckling at the houses jibe.

Yeah, that's what I meant by the other articles altering her words. She very carefully avoided giving her opinion. She said she was raised by a science teacher, but she didn't answer his question of how old the fossils were to her father or herself when relating the story. She said she was ok with students debating evolution and creationism, but not ok with adding creationism to the curriculum.

If you just read the other articles, I don't think you see how careful she was to leave the ideas of creationism in the classroom without legislating they be taught by the teachers. She invoked freedom of speech and religion and made it a religious decision to believe in evolution or creationism, according to the dictates of your child's conscience.

Those debates are going to be interesting.

I am for change, but Palin is way too conservative for my liking. Pro-life, and a creationist?

Is calling someone a creationist just code for saying they're religious? I haven't heard this term bandied about before like I have today, and not being a religious person myself, I'm curious. Thanks.

Yes. Palin is going to be hammered by the left because of babies, guns and God.

To hijack the thread for a moment...ID is creation theory..thus is you believe in Id you are a creationist. Mixing religion(which is what ID is!) with school(state) is a no no in the USA!!!...that said if you fans of creationism..would be more then happy to let not only christian creationism, but hindu, american indian, ect. creationism be taught I see no problem with it.

:confused3 You make it sound like it is a bad thing....

It's a bad thing if it's not what you believe. Don't force your beliefs on others and they wont force them on you.

as for Palin....NO experience at all = very bad decision.

WOW I cant believe that there are already over 500 posts to this thread.....Biden did not due that when he announced his VP pick. Seems that McCain really stirred things up.

And not just in this thread but in many others also. HMMMM interesting. popcorn::

Not to strain at gnats, but ID is not eqivalent with Judeo-Christian creation theory. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligent_design

I think corndog is on to something. I suspect "creationist" is a code for "religious person" for some folk.

She's a brilliant tactical choice.

"Palin has focused on energy policy during her short stint in office and is well-known for her support of drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, a position McCain opposes but many grass-roots Republicans support.

"Her bio on the state governor's Web site says one of the two major bills passed during her first legislative session in office was a competitive process to construct a gas pipeline.

Palin started Alaska's Petroleum Systems Integrity Office, an oversight and maintenance agency for the state's oil and gas equipment, facilities and infrastructure. She created the Climate Change Subcabinet that would forge a climate-change strategy, according to the biography.

Palin chairs the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, a multistate panel "that promotes the conservation and efficient recovery of domestic oil and natural gas resources while protecting health, safety and the environment," the biography says."

And what's on everyone's mind these days??? GAS PRICES. You have to know that her energy platform will play a huge role in the Republican platform. She's also a conservative. She'll capture those who believe that McCain is not conservative enough. And last, but not least, she's a woman. There are people out there who will vote for the ticket because she's a woman.

It's brilliant. They may not win but the Republicans have just made the election very, very interesting.

I have so much to say about this, what is really funny is that all of those that had said they WOULD NOT vote for Obama because he doesn't have "experience" are now TOTALLY being hyprocrites and are happy that Mccains VP choice who has less experience than Obama because that is a great change.
I'm sorry, but I don't think that it's that clear cut. I don't view the importance of the qualifications of the person on the top of the ticket as being equivalent to that of the person on the bottom. It it were, we wouldn't have ever called Dan Quayle "Mr. Vice President." While I don't think that Mrs. Palin was the "most qualified" candidate available, I think the same is true when it comes to Joe Biden (and I think most Hillary supporters would agree too, btw). As someone trying to sell themselves as Presidential material, Biden has failed miserably more than once. Both Biden and Palin are examples of people selected in an effort to "complement" the person at the top of the bill.

The supposed "hypocrisy" can also fly in both directions. The Obama camp is attacking her for simply being "the former mayor of a town of 9,000" people with "zero foreign policy experience". If I were them, I'd watch where they're aiming that charge! As for Sarah Palin, if you read her political background the political experience isn't long, but it's pretty darn impressive. Factor in that this "beauty queen" (another slam from the Left) isn't a push-over when it comes to playing hardball with the "old-boy" network.

And lastly, the reason I think Obama is a bad choice to be President isn't because he's inexperienced... It's because I disagree with his politics. The same goes for Biden. Thirty years of "experience" is meaningless to me if you want to do the wrong thing.

Well, if the fact that she's an "Evangelical Protestant" isn't clear enough for some, I guess "creationist" would seal the deal, right?

I agree. It would be helpful (at least to little ol' me) if people could just come right out and say they have a problem with her being an Evangelical Protestant though. :confused3
