It's now official!

Sorry, is it just me, or has the world suddenly gone mad - why all this ecstatic over-reaction to the news a Starbucks has opened! :confused3

You go to Disney for something different, something a bit special - not something you can get down any high street in the UK. Not only that, I bet it costs a fortune in there too.

No, I'll stick to my packets of Nescafe Cappuccino in my hotel room, and save my cash for some souvenirs from the parks instead.

I'm afraid I can't share the enthusiasm over Starbucks either, but have happy memories of shopping at the Buffalo Trading Co store with my 2 boys after watching the Buffalo Bill show.

its because the coffee in the resort is sooooooo bad, i luv coffee and i even go to coffee houses here to get a decent one most days ,not starbucks its self as we dont hav one. i wouldnt go 5 days at home without a decent coffee so i def wouldnt go 5 days abroad without one. for me it isnt starbucks it self that im so excited about it not having to drink that muck they serve up.

Great to be able to get a decent cup of coffee but they could have hidden it out of sight like the monstrosity that is McDonalds. Might as well chuck in a Carphone Warehouse and Top Shop, who needs Disney theming and originality when we can have a typical UK High Street experience instead? Yes, i really miss Buffalo Trading Co. too ;)

I'm the same but I'm not a big coffee drinker. Give me a cup of tea anyday! :rotfl:

I think it's a shame that Buffalo Trading Co had to close as I liked browsing in there but I am going to be very positive and say I hope everyone will enjoy their Starbucks :goodvibes and who knows I may even surprise myself and go in there one day too! :rotfl2:

Praise the Lord:worship:

Thank you Elaine :rotfl2:

Hubby will be pleased,he loves his coffee ( i hate it but will have hot choc :thumbsup2) and says the coffee in Disney is indeed rank !

How did I miss this thread.

I loved the Buffalo trading, but Starbucks will keep hubby happy and it will make a much more pleasant walk through the village knowing he can get his precious Starbucks coffee.

I love Starbucks but I am here with you. I don't need Strabucks at DLRP. I miss the old shop.
What will be next. Replacing the huge Disney Store with a Subway?

But I wonder what the prices will be. Two weeks ago I compared it with the Starbucks at Val'd Europe.
Here in Germay we pay 3,70€ for a tall (= small) Caramel Macciato.
At Val D'Europe it was 4,70€. So I wonder what the price at DV will be.
And then again, I am not willing to pay 5€ or even more for a coffe at Strabucks.

Got back last night, and yes indeed Starbucks is open.

Hubby loves his Starbucks, but after visiting on Wednesday, don't think Disney Village Starbucks will get much of his custom!

Your order is taken while in the queue, so if like us you want a sandwich or cake, you then have to squeeze past people in front, so you can see what there is :sad2: They took our name, then at the till, the cashier looked at us like we are stupid, as we were just standing there not knowing what to do!! At this point you are to give them your name so they can tell you the amount. Then, we waited (like you do here) for our drinks. This is were the real problems started. Hubby got his coffee in a take away cup, we had said we wanted to stay in, so they poured that coffee into a cup. So as you can imagine, it had lost heat. Then they started to make my cold drink, so his coffee is now getting even colder, and he likes it hot ( the sugar hadn't melted at the bottom when he'd finished:eek:) Bad expereince!!

We went away with other family members, they went in yesterday. They asked for Vente Lattes. The staff didn't know what they were asking for! The English guy in the queue behind them worked at Disney, and spoke French, and told the staff what they wanted, and they couldn't understand him either:eek:

Maybe it was just teething problems and it may get better. Anyway, if I haven't put people of,

the coffee was either 4.60e or 4.70e.

Slice of chocolate cake was 3.60e.

Small petit pain with A slice of ham and cheese was 3.10e

Strawberry and cream Vente Frappuccino was 5.30e or 5.60e

what a shame you had a bad experience sounds like theyre complicating things with the name thing thanks for letting us know the prices x

I totally agree with this - I like Starbucks coffee but its not something that I want at Disney. I dont want the Village to be like any High Street with McDonalds and Starbucks. I want different shops. I really liked the shop that was there before as it had slightly different things in

Off topic a little - this is how Downtown Disney at Disneyland is (many high street stores) and it can work - they're well themed and DTD is a big place so there's still plenty of restaurants and "special" stores.

Back on topic (but following on from my above statement) - Disney Village is much smaller than DTD and only has limited store space. With this in mind, I think the last thing they need is a starbucks, especially in such a focal place. Macdonalds is "ok" as it's tucked away and you don't really notice it unless you're looking for it.

Personally, if Disney had to put a coffee house in, I'd rather they'd done it themselves and just made a decent job of it - giving it a nice Disney theme somehow. Having said that, that currently means "filled with characters" so maybe that's not such a good idea.

What I am wondering about is the following: When the Starbucks once was a Disney Store they made their money with the merchandise that was sold in this shop.
Now that it is a Starbucks do they only get the rent that Starbucks is paying DLRP for having a store their or do they run the shop by themself and make their money with the coffee they sell?? :confused3

Can anyone help me with this.

I would assume it's similar to what's written on the starbucks website for North America:

Does Starbucks franchise?
Starbucks does not franchise operations and has no plans to franchise in the foreseeable future.

In North America, the majority of our stores are Company-operated. As an exception, Starbucks may enter into licensing arrangements with companies who provide access to real estate which would otherwise be unavailable such as airport locations, national grocery chains, major food services corporations, college and university campuses and hospitals.

With the above in mind, I would say that starbucks get to keep all the money from coffee sales etc, but have most likely agreed terms with Disney to rent the store location.

I suspect it's more for non paying Disney Village visitors than holiday visitors, another attempt to make DV a place for locals to visit.

Thank you for that, but with the above in mind I would see it the other way around. As this is a location which "would otherwise be unavailable", I think Starbucks does Franchise here. So that means they only get an agreed percentage from the income that DLRP does make with this Starbucks subsidiary. Or what do you think? :confused3

Ok first off I HATE coffee. It smells! However I do like a nice cup of tea:goodvibes

These large chains annoy me. Even at home I would much rather go into a nice local cafe with home baking etc than support these chains with their over priced fayre. I think this is even more true when I'm on holiday. I want to feel like I'm on holiday and experience something local. If they had to put in a coffee shop I would have preferred them to put in something with a local theme. Something like paris street cafe:confused3 to remind you where you are. I don't want to feel like I'm down the high street.

I have to agree with Steve I think this may have been done to attract the locals rather than for guests.

I'll still be taking my kettle and tetley:rotfl2:
