It's Happening One Way Or The Other! - Oct 2016 PTR - Updated 10/11 - Single Digit Dance

I am so very sorry for your loss. Losing someone you are close to is never easy... Sending you lots of big hugs! :lovestruc

Your plans sound great... I am anxious for the RoL to start in AK... I've only been in AK once when it was dark - and it was very beautiful and memorable. So, I am excited for that again.

D~

So sorry for your loss.

I am so excited for the Rivers of Light show! I want to book a trip this fall just to see that. ::yes:: Of course that is mostly dreaming but we will see.

Have you looked at last year's MNSSHP dates? The ones for this year will most likely line up with those. If I remember correctly, they released them the first week of April last year so hopefully soon!

Thank you, I appreciate that. I'm still having some trouble dealing but it's getting better.

I can't wait until RoL opens. I'm sure there will be all kinds of YouTube videos of it shortly after. DH normally hates AK but I think he sees how excited I am for the new things there so he's warming up to it.

Oh, I hope you get to! I know you said the fall is not an ideal time for you to take vacation. Hopefully Tink will be on your side this year! :tinker:
I did look at last years and someone posted the "90% official" MNSSHP dates over the weekend, as well as the park hours for October. :yay:

So I just went back over our park plans and the only things that won't need to be changed are our arrival day, departure day, and MNSSHP night. :badpc::rotfl2:

So I guess it's back to the drawing board this week. I LOVE PLANNING OUR WDW TRIPS! lol

So glad they released the party dates and hours for you! I know how addicting moving plans around can be. It's lots of fun!

It's making my head spin! lol DH and I sat down last night while the plumber was working on our ruptured pipe in the bathroom to figure out a new game plan. Thankfully, I think we have it figured out.

Hopefully these plans will still allow us to do pretty much everything we want to do. Luckily, DH and I are both commando-style vacationers so I don't think we'll have too much trouble.

Now we just wait 31 days to see if I have to arrange the days again based off what I'm able to book for ADRs. Does anyone see any of my ADRs that might be hard to get?

I don't think you should have any trouble with those ADRs if you make them right at 180 days. They are all pretty popular but none quite so hard as say, Be Our Guest.

I think your plans look AWESOME! And we do have two spots of overlap, so hopefully we can DISmeet! :cutie:

Oct 21 - I'll be at HS from around Noon until post-EMH closing that night.
Oct 22 - I'm at AK from early EMH opening until about 4pm.

Hope you don't mind me jumping on board super late  But i'm TERRIBLE at checking out peoples sig's and seeing what TR's they got going on, so forgive me!:goodvibes

I apologize for my extended absence. I had meant to do a little update earlier but not long after I posted last, I got work that a close friend of mine was not expected to live through the day and unfortunately passed away a couple of hours later. I have been having a really hard time dealing with his passing and haven't felt like getting on my computer or pretty much anything else. It's slowly getting easier, although some days/hours are better than others.

Oh no i'm so sorry! I totally understand just not wanting to do anything. It's really hard when you lose someone close to you. Hope things are getting a bit easier for you

2. They've announced that they will be offering Rivers of Light Dining Packages. Providing it is still offered for Tusker House breakfast and they don't change the menu too much, we will probably book our Tusker House breakfast as the dining package. That will open up that FP selection which we'll use for Kilimanjaro Safari (more than likely).

O So when I return from a trip, I always fall out of the loop for DIS updates, so to hear that they'll be offering these dining packages is SO COOL! We're not quite sure yet, but we're debating about visiting in October. Right now it's between Aulani and WDW and it's tough but it's all coming down to what will be the cheapest option. Too bad our potential dates wouldn't coincide, that would be great to meet you! If we did go, it would be around October 8 for 6 nights or so, so we'd be missing each other by not that long :sad2:

Your plans look great!

I especially love that you're making time for Pick a Pearl and making sure you grab Bloody Marys at the Dawa Bar, that is of upmost importance! Agh, I can't wait until the next time I can have one of those! They are so so delicious!

That's what I was figuring on as well. I know once the RoL packages are released, there will be a mad rush to snatch them up.

Wooohoo!!!! I'm thinking the HS day might be best because I know for sure that one won't change lol

Gahhh!! That's a bummer :( Would have loved to meet you guys. Aulani sounds really nice though too, and I'm not really into tropical-y locations most of the time.

The Bloody Mary is all your fault lol. I saw you post it on one of your TRs and I knew I had to get one!!

Things have been getting crazier and busier for me. We will have to be doing some home improvements this summer (partially thanks to a burst pipe in our hall bathroom a couple of weeks ago). I've also gotten a new position at work (my boss and I mutually decided that the marketing position wasn't working out so I am now his executive assistant) plus we have a few small trips in May & June to plan for. But I promise I will try my hardest to stay on top of this TR.

Nothing really new on the Disney front. Still waiting for MNSSHP tickets to go on sale and RoL dining packages to open up. However, one exciting thing is that we are officially under 200 days (we're at 198 today)!!!!

giphy (2).gif

Which means our ADR date is in 18 days! I have already taken the day off of work because I'm going to have to wake up at 4 am to make them and I am NOT a morning person.

giphy (3).gif

Unless, of course, I'm at Disney :ssst:

I've made my list of all the things I have to do make/do before the trip and so far, they all seem manageable. Another thing that I'm loving about this trip is the fact that I don't have to stress out about free dining because I know our week is always blacked out. I've budgeted everything based on paying for the dining plan & full priced room so even if we don't get a room discount, I won't feel too horrible about it.

Hopefully I'll have another update for you before our ADR date but if not, I'll definitely be back shortly after to let you all know how it went.

We are officially a week away from ADRs!!!

giphy (1).gif
giphy.gif

I've been following along with some other folks that have already booked their ADRs for the beginning of October and it seems like some of them are having trouble with a couple of our favorites. Mainly LTT and Sci Fi. So I figured I better come up with a back up plan.

After going through all the menus & reviews last night, here's what we've come up with:

1900 Park Fare Dinner
Kona Dinner
Beaches & Cream
Big River Grille

I'm kind of leaning towards Big River Grille on our HS day, if I can't get Sci Fi. It's fairly close to HS so this would allow us to still enjoy EMH without carving out a HUGE chunk of time.

For my LTT alternate, I'm thinking Kona or 1900 because that will be our EPCOT/MNSSHP day. We could just hop on the Monorail and be on our merry way.

While I know we would probably like Beaches & Cream, I'm not sure how many burgers/sandwiches my palate can stand in a week's time.

Which ones would you pick out of those options?

Even though I didn't enjoy Kona breakfast - I am not opposed to trying it for dinner sometime....

It's hard to find an alternate for LTT... It's one of my favorites. :lovestruc And yes - I agree - burgers do get old after a while... BRG does sound like a good option for you. :)

You and me both, sister. :surfweb:

SMART! :thumbsup2 I would have done the same, but I lucked out and my ADR morning falls not only on a Sunday, but during my 9-day staycation.

NOOOOOOOO! Not LTT!

Ugh, well, I guess I should think of an alternative too. Maybe Skipper Canteen? I was trying to squeeze that one in somewhere but couldn't. And I don't want to leave the park, so I guess I could take Tony's or the Plaza in a pinch. Or do Crystal Palace for lunch, and switch my CP breakfast to Be Our Guest instead. GAH, DECISIONS!!!! :scared:

While I know we would probably like Beaches & Cream, I'm not sure how many burgers/sandwiches my palate can stand in a week's time.
And this is why Beaches & Cream is the only burger (or similar) on my agenda for the entire week! :cutie:

Hey all! I hope I haven't kept you all waiting. I meant to check back in early in the week but this week has just been....well, you know. Not only has work been keeping me busy but we found out last Monday that my MIL's cancer has come back for a 3rd time. This time is non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. As a person who has seen more people affected by cancer than she ever wanted to, I had a feeling it would eventually come back but I didn't expect so soon after her battle with pancreatic cancer. Anyway, I've been spending a lot of time over at their house cleaning, helping with gardening, etc. while she goes through all of her doctor appointments and biopsies.

On a Disney note, last Friday was my ADR day!!! Although it ended on a happy note, it got off to a really rough start.

To start with, Thursday night my beloved Blues were playing the Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup playoffs and this was the game that would have clenched the next round for us. Not only did it start kind of late but it also went into not one but TWO overtimes. :scared: I shouldn't have even went to bed but I did and my alarm went off at 3 am.

giphy.gif

I grabbed my laptop, my work laptop, my cell phone, my credit card, and my list of ADRs & sat down in my recliner. 4 o'clock rolled around and I logged onto MDE. Scrolled to my first AD and the dates were still blacked out. Exsqueeze me???

giphy (1).gif

Looked to make sure I was logged in correctly...tried again....nothing! I was getting really frustrated and emotional until I realized....6 am EST is 5 am Central, not 4 am. I could have slept for another hour.

giphy (2).gif

So at 5 am, I logged on again and got all of my ADRs done! Even though the website was way glitchy, I managed to get everything I wanted at almost the same time I wanted, except for LTT. Here's the breakdown of what I got.

October 19 (arrival day): 50's Prime Time - 5:05 pm (wanted 4:30 pm but I think this actually might work out a little bit better)
October 21: Ohana - 7:30 am (wanted 7 am)
Sci Fi - 12:20 pm (wanted 2 pm)
October 22: Tusker House - 8:10 am (wanted 8 am)
October 23: Minnie's Halloween Dine (Fantasmic dining package) - 4 pm (exactly what I wanted)
October 24: Crystal Palace - 8:05 am (wanted 8 am)
Beaches & Cream - 8:20 pm (wanted 8 pm)
October 25: Liberty Tree Tavern - 4 pm (wanted 4 pm)
October 26 (departure day): Whispering Canyon - 7:30 am (wanted 7 am)

"Wait a cotton-pickin' minute!" I hear you saying, "I thought you couldn't get LTT!" You are correct. I couldn't get it...initially. When I tried to book it on Friday, all I could get was 2:55 pm, which was too early for us. So I tried Kona...nothing before 7:30 pm, which obviously wouldn't work because it was our MNSSHP night. I ended up booking 1900 Park Fare for 4:15 pm. We were okay with that but the more I thought about it, I really wanted to be in MK by 4 pm.
Sunday morning I got up and tried to book LTT....still only 2:55 pm. Then I thought, just out of curiosity, I would check BOG. Lo and behold, they had a 4 pm open!!! I couldn't believe it! I snatched that reservation up as quick as I could. And any sane person would have been happy with that but apparently I'm not sane. I kept checking back everyday and finally today, what should I find?? A 4 pm LTT opening!!!! After a quick call to confirm with DH, I cancelled BOG and booked LTT. And so ends my ADR saga *takes a bow*.

In other Disney news, they release free dining and our dates aren't eligible (which I already knew so it wasn't that big of a deal). They also released some room discounts but we didn't book them. It wouldn't have saved us that much money so I didn't feel the hassle of getting our reservation switched was worth it.

We also ended switching around our plans for October 23 & 24. Because it's a requirement that I see MSEP and it wasn't showing up on the 19th, I had to find another day to go to MK to see it. It's highly possible that it's just a typo that it's not on the calendar for the 19th but with us making ADRs, I didn't want to risk it.

So now we're back to the waiting game....waiting for MNSSHP, waiting for ROL dining packages, waiting for F&W menus, waiting to see if they'll extend the Star Wars dessert party, waiting for our ADR date. Luckily I have lots of DIY things for the trip to keep me busy and to keep my PTR somewhat interesting. If your ADR date is coming up, I hope you have fantastic luck as well! Until next time....

Say whaaaat! Okay, I think I need to go look into tweaking my times now....

So now we're back to the waiting game....
You and me both, girl!

So since the last update, real life has really been kicking us in the you-know-what. First we found that my mother-in-law's cancer is back. This time it's presenting as non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. The doctors are thinking it's Stage 1, possibly Stage 2 and centralized in her neck but they've also noticed that her spleen is enlarged so they want to check it as well. She will need a bone marrow test as well as a PET test, which her insurance company won't approve. So the doctors are fighting with the insurance company & we are waiting to sere what happens.

Then the plumbing in our house goes crazy. We had a clog somewhere close to the intersection of the 2 pipes coming from our 2 bathrooms (one on either side of the house). It was discovered that when they built the house, they put the pipes at a T intersection instead of staggering them. That T intersection is where the clog was and the only way to fix it was to re-work that part of the plumbing. It was basically a problem waiting to happen and $600 later, it's fixed.

To round it out, my doctor did some blood tests for my regular check up and I now have Type 2 diabetes. While I'm obviously not thrilled with this, it's hopefully been caught soon enough that I can do something about it. I have now started taking metformin (which thankfully has only made me feel horrible once so far) and I've had to change my eating habits. I go back in a month to get my A1C checked again so fingers crossed.

All of this hasn't stopped me from planning this trip (in fact, it may be one of the reasons I've kept some semblance of sanity). So let's get on with the update!!

UPDATE #1: MNSSHP

As I'm sure you're all aware, they FINALLY released the tickets for MNSSHP and of course there was a price increase. I debated for all of about 10 seconds before I clicked "PURCHASE".
giphy (2).gif

I can't help it, guys. I just love MNSSHP too much. Thankfully it's just myself & DH going as our tickets were almost $100 each. Combined with the fact that I couldn't even get a room discount for this trip, it's already adding up to be more expense than our last one. But it's Disney, it makes us happy, and we only get to go every couple of years.

UPDATE #2: DIY PROJECTS

I've started working on the DIY projects for this trip and the list is pretty short. I've been buying supplies here & there and stashing them in my Disney box (which I need to post an update on as well). Here's the list of DIY projects and their progress.

* Halloween costumes: DH's just needs a long sleeve shirt to wear underneath his flash shirt and I need a flower hair barrette and a red t-shirt to paint on.

* Autograph book: The individual graphics are printed off. I just need to cut & assemble, which I'm hoping to do next week when I go to my retreat in Pigeon Forge.

* Magic Bands: The decal for DH's is ready to go as soon as we get his band and the decals for my purple band are in. As for my other Magic Band, I think I'm going to leave it plain for right now as I'm planning on only using the purple one for this trip.

* Window decorations: Almost all the printable ones are printed out. They just need to be cut, assembled, and laminated. The rest I've located for purchase on the internet and I plan on buying those a little at a time. I can't wait to show you what theme we've decided to go with!!!

* Park bag tags: I have our ID tags printed...just need assembled. I've also got a lime green Mickey head that needs to be laminated. I know most people don't use them any more but I figure it doesn't hurt to try.

* Theme shirts: I have our outfits planned out. One of my shirts is on order, I need to order one for DH, and finally I'll need to make 5 (2 for DH and 3 for me). I have the designs ready and 2 of plain tees purchased. Just need the iron-on paper & the rest of the plain tees.

Wow...so that looks like a lot, doesn't it??? Well, it will definitely keep me in Disney mode until details of all of the October events are released.

UPDATE #3 QS WISH LIST

DH and I have started researching which QS restaurants we want to go to and THERE ARE JUST SO MANY!!!! We are definitely going to have to whittle down the list a bit because towards the end of the trip, we have a tendency to start sharing meals. I'll post our wish list in another post (I'm getting ready to head into a meeting here at work).

That's it so far. I hope everyone is cruising along in their planning as well. Thanks for checking in!!

Which means our ADR date is in 18 days! I have already taken the day off of work because I'm going to have to wake up at 4 am to make them and I am NOT a morning person.

The things we do for the love of Disney right??

Not only has work been keeping me busy but we found out last Monday that my MIL's cancer has come back for a 3rd time. This time is non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Anyway, I've been spending a lot of time over at their house cleaning, helping with gardening, etc. while she goes through all of her doctor appointments and biopsies.

Oh no i'm so sorry to hear this! That is great that you are helping out around her house, i'm sure she really appreciates it.

Looked to make sure I was logged in correctly...tried again....nothing! I was getting really frustrated and emotional until I realized....6 am EST is 5 am Central, not 4 am. I could have slept for another hour.

:mad::headache: THAT SUCKS!

October 19 (arrival day): 50's Prime Time - 5:05 pm (wanted 4:30 pm but I think this actually might work out a little bit better)
October 21: Ohana - 7:30 am (wanted 7 am)

October 26 (departure day): Whispering Canyon - 7:30 am (wanted 7 am)

Woot woot! And your times are pretty close to what you orginally wanted (with the exception of Sci-Fi)

She will need a bone marrow test as well as a PET test, which her insurance company won't approve. So the doctors are fighting with the insurance company & we are waiting to sere what happens.

OH my gosh, I hope they are able to work something out with the insurance company. Seriously, who wants to deal with all that logistical stuff when you're sick?!?

To round it out, my doctor did some blood tests for my regular check up and I now have Type 2 diabetes. While I'm obviously not thrilled with this, it's hopefully been caught soon enough that I can do something about it. I have now started taking metformin (which thankfully has only made me feel horrible once so far) and I've had to change my eating habits. Geez when it rains it pours :sad2: First you MIL, the house and now you.

The most perfect GIF for this! :rotfl: I'm afraid to ask, what was the price difference from this year to last year???:scared::scared:

So the doctors are fighting with the insurance company & we are waiting to sere what happens.
This burns me up so bad. I cannot even begin to explain the length and depth of my hatred for insurance companies, and the healthcare system in this country in general. What is the point of having all this excellent advanced medical technology if nobody can afford it, and what is the point of having insurance when they refuse to pay for those treatments! GRRRR! /rant

I'm so glad to hear that you're doing relatively well on the Metformin! And good luck with the diet changes, I know how tough it can be to adapt to! You can do it, though!

All of this hasn't stopped me from planning this trip (in fact, it may be one of the reasons I've kept some semblance of sanity).
EXACTLY. My family hates that I keep spending every extra penny I have on my Disney trips, but they just don't understand that without Disney to look forward to and help be deal with life, I'd probably be on anti-depressants and anxiety meds! Disney is my drug of choice! :thumbsup2

As I'm sure you're all aware, they FINALLY released the tickets for MNSSHP and of course there was a price increase. I debated for all of about 10 seconds before I clicked "PURCHASE".

Bahahahaa! Perfect gif. And I agree! While I didn't love the price increase, it didn't deter me this year, either!

But it's Disney, it makes us happy, and we only get to go every couple of years.
Exaaaaactly! Follow your bliss, girl! :goodvibes

* Park bag tags: I have our ID tags printed...just need assembled. I've also got a lime green Mickey head that needs to be laminated. I know most people don't use them any more but I figure it doesn't hurt to try.
Every trip I saw I'm going to do some sort of lime green mickey head, and then I never do! Maybe I'll finally try it in October! :scratchin

I'll post our wish list in another post
YAAAAY! I love food updates!!! :hyper:
