I see you...

Yay for getting a lift to work Dana!
As bad as Chittyrail is...and my bus from home to station...It never takes that long :sad2:

Nice to see you Ness. I believe I have seen you before but not sure if I've said hi

Yay for getting your dress Alison.

PIO - we are having VERY similar weather.

As for visiting. It's funny. We did the DVC tour in 2007 and looked at numbers based on every 4 years. Looked good...but didn't buy...
Then came Feb 09 Tokyo and Paris...then Dec 09 WDW and cruise...then Feb 2011 Paris...then December 2011 WDW...for some of us  I get the cruise...but not WDW...

I'd REALLY like to be at EPCOT's 30th Anniversary.....one can only hope...

We're now planning into 2013 (obviously), but the Tokyo Disney trip is now out because our reason for going is transferring back to DCA sooner rather than later to manage the new restaurant and Food & Beverage in 2012 so our reason to go to Tokyo Disney in 2013 is gone. Good thing because I didn't feel too safe going to Japan.

Why DCA?

And why not safe going to Japan?

I'm having a sense of deja vu here. I think we had a similar discussion on the Aussie section.

Japan is also out of the question for me right now. Not sure if we can trust the government or the ***ushima plant operator with any of the information that may or may not be forthcoming.
But there has been a lot of radiation in the area. And it gets into the food chain....with no real controls as to where its gotten so far.
Whether the radiation is hitting Tokyo (DL or otherwise) is a moot point. It will be a long time before I look at a trip to Japan.

So, Hong Kong is on the cards for me. We'll just see how budget goes next year.

Don't you think if there was a big problem that Japanese would be dying from radiated food and the media would be telling us so?

The Japanese are a VERY insular country...
They barely tell their people what is going on...

But here is what a mutual friend shushh (who is a medic) said on the situation.

"I am generally quite a relaxed traveller and would go to most places with few worries. I am not worried about immediate irradiation in the area post earthquake but what I am unsure about is how much radiation has seeped into the environment and hence into the food chain. They have increased the "normal" radiation levels 100-fold compared to the "old" normal. It is also very hard to find information about it. I suppose, the medic in me worries about the possible effects this may have on a growing child, thyroid problems, cancers, effects on the reproductive system. Our trip next year was meant to be to Japan, but after long and in depth discussions with DH, we have decided to give it a miss until more accurate information is available."

They won't die instantly...
That is the trouble with Nuclear. There is just so little information on what is getting in the food chain...and then will accumulate in the people...and eventually cause problems.

There was a story on a day care centre where they constantly check the radiation levels and the water in the small paddle pool they have for the kids is changed DAILY...and the kids can only spend minutes in there :sad2:

It depends on how much radiation there is. It can kill you almost instantly or isn't enough to kill you in your lifetime.

Radiation is all around. It's coming from your computer screen at you right now.

I don't know know, but it was Gary Magetti, he was transferred to Tokyo and I just heard last week he is coming back for the DCA opening of Carthay Circle and going to manage something at DLR, he used to be in charge of food & Beverage. With him back in CA, we don't have the reason to go to Tokyo soon.

I think that the Japanese government is less forthcoming than the US government. I doubt that they will tell us if anything is going wrong. The most meaningful reports will probably be tweets and other social media reports. I should ask my friend from Japan if he has heard anything.

Yay for getting your dress Alison.

Thanks, it's amazing how much better you feel when you have your "uniform" in order.

And after purchasing a new white dress shirt for Fran she dug through her desk to find something for my mouthpiece and found a tux shirt for tomorrow! :lmao: It's amazing the things you find in our house when you start digging! :rotfl2:

And that's the problem....noone knows how much...and how much is in the food chain...to then accumulate in you beyond the immediate surrounding irradiation...

You get radiation flying. Noone has said you don't get radiation from all around.
But the "norm" has increased..
And until I actually KNOW...I don't intend to go back

The Japanese government couldn't even get information out of the power company. They had to personally order the chairman to tell them before they could work out how bad the situation was.

It's 10 months on....and the reports I'm hearing is that they still aren't telling the general population anything. There are about 40,000 people still displaced and they don't know if they can return to their homes or not; nor what they are going to do. I also understand that at one stage, when the government found out how bad it was, that they considered evacuating over 1 million people.

The radiation levels in the sea water around the plant is being monitored. It is scary high and fishermen are not allowed to fish. But there is no mention about how far the radiation has spread across the sea.

Let's see in 10 years time what the cancer and death rates are in the area.

I can cope with "old normal" radiation levels around me....from my monitor, mobile/cell phone towers, TVs, microwaves and the like. But to increase the baseline by 100 fold or more and deliberately do that? I'll opt to play it safe.

And until very recently, the Japanese media were very differential about the Japanese politicians and would help cover up. Tweets is the most reliable source right now.

But you can tell. Are people dying? How about animals and plants? There are signs that don't require a gieger counter to evaluate the conditions.

If it were so bad to effect you when you go there for a week, it would have already had a greater compounding effect on the residents.

Doesn't it seem like DLR has gotten better menu's in the last year? Perhaps it was his absence that allowed the change.

With CCT, and the Main Street restaraunt changes coming, perhaps he will do the first or replace, Chef Oscar?

Well since our urgency of going (ie Gary Magetti was going to be there five years starting a year ago) has now been neutralized, we aren't going to worry about it. But eventually we do want to visit Tokyo Disney, we are just aren't going to push it anytime soon.
