It"s cold!!!!

Went out and bought snowshoes for hiking in the forests around here

I started showshoeing last winter and love it. We have a national park just south of us and they have dozens of trails that are perfect for it. I love going into the woods closer to home at night when there is a full or almost full moon. With the reflection from the snow it is really bright and peaceful.

You're right though, if you live where there is a winter you can either hate it or find a way to enjoy it. I can usually do that latter until the end of February, than it switches to the former.

The pile of snow at the end of the driveway (where the plow pushes it) is about 6'3" high and at least 10 feet deep.

You can no longer see the benches on my back deck because the snow has risen higher than they are...and they were built for tall people. Almost the whole deck is just one big blob of snow.

It's only the beginning of January and I'm already thinking, "I can't take much more of this."

3 more months! :sad2::sad1:

School was closed half day today and we're off tomorrow too.

We Brits really can't cope with snow!!

:goodvibes

It's snowed here, quite a bit! Within a couple of hours last night, it was 2 inches deep! Only stopped snowing not too long ago. Would be amazing, but doesn't help I just broke up with DBf and I have a mass of coursework to do.

Oh dear, am sorry to hear that :grouphug:

Had a nice day at home, perfect sunshine and no snow but so cold outside that yesterday's hasn't melted at all meaning the roads are just as bad!

Hoping for another school closure tomorrow but so far ours is one of the only schools in the North Liverpool area not confirmed as shut, which makes no sense as surely the roads/conditions are just as hazardous in ours as in nearby schools

EDIT just as I was typing that my line manager rang to say we're off tomorrow too!!!

:goodvibes

Well I just moved here (FL) and it is stinking cold. I had to break out the Healy Hansen Ski Parka. I know cold and it is cold down here. Sooooo listen to Kevin and bring your coats gloves and hats. You will need them. No matter where you are from.

Thanks. I think we ended it on good terms.

I forgot to say that my University had actually closed today as well, I actually hope its open tomorrow, as I have a lecture I need to go to!

I'm so sorry to hear that Charlotte. We are all here for you if you need to chat. I heard the snow down in Portsmouth is really bad! Hopefully it will be open tomorrow/ the lecture will be rescheduled.

Best of luck on the coursework, I am trying to do my dissertation at the moment... not going well!

Thanks, and I hope so too, since its related to the coursework I'm doing at the moment.

For next thursday I have to make a game and have documentation about the technical bits behind it :scared1:

It doesn't help that I'm consistantly being distracted, mainly by the idea that I could go to Disneyland Paris with my sister for about £240 each, one of the few things I would happily go into my overdraft for!

This is my second winter in Florida and I swear that it feels colder here at 50 degrees than it felt in NJ at 50 degrees. One of my friends was visiting last January and said the same thing. Maybe it's because we think it's supposed to be warmer....

We just moved from DE and my husband thinks it is due to the drastic change from day to night. Back home if it was 38 during the day it might only go to 29 at night but here it can be 70 during the day and 40 at night a much larger difference in temp making it feel much colder. It is weird how it feels colder here though.

University's closed again!

Not surprising! We've had bright sunshine yesterday and today but the snow on the ground hasnt changed (well, it's frozen therefore worsened) since the day it actually snowed, and it's -3 here at the moment so don't think it will.
Can't see school being back on for me tomorrow unless this snow does actually start to disappear

way back in high school (almost 40 years ago), we used to snowshoe a lot..
mostly in the upper peninsula....it was absolutely magical....winter wonderland..

in other words, if you're heading to WDW, Kevin is telling you to be prepared to dress like this (from one of our December trips many years ago):

I leave tomorrow for WDW.

Right now, the internet says the current temperature is 32°F in Orlando. It is currently 22°F here in Detroit.

Looks as if I will not be leaving my winter parka at home. One more thing for the TSA to x-ray.

Does your We are here to pet giraffes have a link? I missed this, when did you add it?

I leave tomorrow for WDW and as I check the temps, it is 32 in Orlando and 35 here in Nova Scotia.....

I thank you all for the advice and will pack warm clothes and gloves. We were there a few years back and the cold spell was a real cold spell. Since then, travel to the World in Jan = unpredictable weather and I go prepared.
