Because it was our source of income... And I could not, would not work there anymore.. It left it's mark on me, all day every day.. Has this ever happened to you?

It went from being a family store, where people often came in and spent an hour or so talking as well as spending, my children would come in with their grandmother if we both were working, or one of us parents, to being "that store" in the neighborhood as well..

It never goes away. Mine happened over 21 years ago and I still remember every single detail of that night including the fact that the police asked me if it was a real gun and my response was "I didn't ask because I didn't want to get shot". I did continue to work that job and that shift for years..but I did have a major melt down the night I saw someone that looked like the person who robbed me. I started to shake, I was hyperventilating..they had to get me into the security office and I sat in there until I knew the person was out of the store and out of the lot.

The thought of guns being carried in the open terrifies the crap out of me. I don't care if you carry a gun but I do not want to see them. I even get a little freaked by seeing a policeman carrying a gun.

I don't believe that we should have open carry, but I do think we should have concealed carry.

Several administrators on our campus have a license for concealed carry. We had a guy walk on campus one day, come to the office and inform us he had a gun. He told us he was ex-military and a cop. He was neither. While he sat in our office and talked, one of our police officers ran a check on his ID. The man was mental. He spent quite a bit of time in our office and thankfully, he didn't make any threats but if he had there were two guns in the same room with him.

DD is in high school. One police officer. Two administrators and a coach have concealed carry permits. I am very thankful for that.

Seeing guns terrifies me also.
It often is the smaller things that go along with the armed robberies people don't get either.. I was also roughed up, thrown to the ground.... When my children were younger and living here where the winters are freezing, most wear those face masks, I used to dress them up shaking, and come back from dropping them off in the mornings in tears... It warmed up in the afternoons, so the didn't wear them.. They never knew why, and I never wanted them knowing the fear.

When I was much younger (22-ish) I was in another city visiting my boyfriend's brother. We were all robbed at gunpoint. I was put on the ground with a gun in the back of my head. I was horrified.

That was 20 years ago. I still think about that night. And to protect my children from people like that, I own a gun. Does anyone NEED to own a gun? Well that's up for debate. What is NOT up for debate is that you don't have the right to make that decision for me.

I can understand your decision. I didn't own the store I was working in when I was robbed but I left that night I made the decision to never go back, and I haven't. It really does leave a mark and although its been a long time for me, the mark is still there.

That's pretty naive. My father had a CPL for a very long time despite mental health problems (if you don't seek treatment there's no record for a background check to turn up!) and association with a known criminal organization.



Local gun control always will be. So long as you merely have to cross city or state lines to obtain a weapon there's no impact at all. But that isn't an effective argument against broader gun control. The vast majority of illegally owned weapons in this country were purchased legally and then stolen or re-sold on the black market.

The comparison to drugs isn't any more apt - guns take up a lot more room and show up on even cursory inspection, while drugs are compact and more easily concealed in other substances. Show me someone who can hide a gun in a can of baby formula to get through airport security or smuggle them in by having mules swallow them...

In a perfect world I'd be all for gun rights but in a perfect world background checks would be thorough and effective and there would be no such thing as an irresponsible gun owner. But in the real world the fact that a man like my father can own guns and you have idiots like that guy who dropped his handgun on a ride at Animal Kingdom, I do think the flow of firearms needs to be dramatically checked.

We have 11 million PEOPLE in this country who didn't get stopped at the border. The notion that we could prevent illegal importation of firearms is short-sighted at best.

And yes while all illegal guns began from some legal source, the fact remains that crime is lower where that legal source exists. Which tells us that guns aren't really causing the issues.

Here, it isn't something that just happens everyday. Today our TV's are glued to the RCMP's who were killed last week.. The country is wearing red in their honor.. I couldn't and wouldn't, but hey, we both live in free countries, that is what is great!

That's what the original article said. They have since changed it to "rifle". My thoughts go out to the slain student's family and friends and the track coach who was grazed by gunfire.

Someone goes into a crowded grocery store and starts shooting at people....everyone around has their own gun, so instead of taking cover, they all start shooting back at the shooter from different directions....is that going to be a good outcome? bullets flying every direction?
