Is Brazil closed?

You know, I don't expect the Disney folks to do anything at all about the problems stated here. Why, because they value one thing only as much as the money making mouse and that is the dollare itsself. These groups bring in a lot and they are not about to upset the money making apple cart. Thats all they thing about anymore and they look at us as nothing but a few winey tourist who may alter when we visit but we will still visit all the same ..smjj

I worked my way through this entire thread-because I liked the title. ;)

So here's my story:

First July trip 1976-we saw MANY tour groups, but we also saw CM's stepping in and enforcing the rules and stopping them from cutting in line. When chanting began in lines, it was allowed to go on until they entered the covered areas, then the CM's would go to the leader and ask that it please stop. Yes, the groups were HUGE and we did our best to avoid the areas where they were, but other than that it wasn't a huge deal.

Second July trip-1994-YIKES!!! Hundreds of kids in orange T shirts, cutting lines, pushing 5 yr old DN out of their way, chanting and singing at the top of their lungs throughout the park. This time, the CM's were either overwhelmed or had been instructed NOT to interfere. With some creative planning and a lot of extra walking, we did our best to be where the groups were not and salvaged the trip.

Haven't been back in July since....

I was there once during the cheerleader championships and I'll never do that again either.

Rude is rude, and Lord knows we've all seen our share of rude behavior no matter when we go to the parks. With large groups, rudeness is amplified. One family holding a space in line and having 4 people cut in, is annoying-98 of them is enough to make you avoid WDW at that time of year.

My other observation on this thread: it's a wonder some people get through their day! After all, they have to be constantly on guard for things to be offended about-and then they have to spend all that time patting themselves on the back about how superior they are to the rest of the ignorant masses.

I agree with you ;) .

i did not start at page 1 of this thread but thought i would add my opinion. sorry if all ready stated. we were there 7/7 through the 17th and had to deal with them as well. very rude. sorry. smoking, pushing, elbowing, stepping on you, flag poking - anyone get poked by the caperones holding up there flags? never again do we go again in July.

Since I'm an American --- your response is actually pretty pathetic.

That's where you're wrong. Unfortunately, from the beginning, I assumed you were an "American" with a very warped view of your own country.

One time when I was there during February, there was a very large group of tour groups. They weren't all that rude, and the chanting was actually fun to listen to in some of the water parks. Never really experienced the cutting in line, or anything of that sort (ruining the shows, etc.). But I'm posting to concur with anyone else who has said that 'rude is rude.' I have seen plenty of American families cutting lines, acting miserable; one of my least favorite things is when families feel it's appropriate to scream at the top of their lungs at their children in the middle of the park. It's very uncomfortable and not entirely necessary. I know I'm not breaking any ground for this thread by saying any of this, I more or less wanted to reiterate the point that some people are rude...black, white, orange, green, or polka dotted...and unfortunately rude people have a way of standing out in our minds and have the potential to ruin an otherwise, very magical trip.

We're here now, and I saw one large same-shirted tour group Tuesday in the MK. They seemed younger though, maybe in the 11-13 range rather than 14-17, and they were well behaved as we passed them anyway. Other than that, I think Brazil Month may be over. Or maybe we just are oblivious!

There are certainly a lot of oblivious posters on this thread. Stop hating foreigners.

Stop hating foreigners.
I do not recall one single post where someone stated that they hated foreigners. However, I have read posts where people hate the rude behaviors of some foreign tour groups. I've also read posts where there's been hatred for the same behaviors of non-foreign groups.

As for me, it's the rude behaviors that I can't stand ... regardless of whom they come from!

Where do they stay when they come? Has anyone had a problem with them in their hotel?

I have noticed them and rolled my eyes at the chanting and the sheer numbers of them, but they've never impeded my abillity to have fun at the parks. Actually, when we were in Universal Studios this past winter, there were 3 Brazilian girls dancing by themselves in the street and when my DH and I walked past, they kind of grabbed him and danced with him, too! Made his day. I guess it sounds kind of weird and inappropriate, but it was really kind of a cute, spontaneous moment!

They usually stay at the moderates. We had the pleasure of their company at All*Sports. They would come rolling in late at night (or early in the morning) and walk through the football field (on their way to Baseball) chanting and making an absolute racket. Annoying when you've just started to fall asleep.

Have you ever run into them when they rush a line? Have you ever had 2 girls standing in line at the food court ready to order and call out to 12 of their friends who proceed to cut infront of you and then pull the "don't speak English" card when you tell them that the line is waaaay behind you? Have you ever had them push (and knock down) your child out of the way in order to get past you? Have you ever sat between two different tour groups who decided to have a contest over which group could chant the loudest while waiting for Fantasmic to start? Did you ever wait in line for 1/2 hour to get a fastpass b/c the group leader had a stack of 100 tickets that he was putting into the fastpass machine?

Anyway ... I would never say that I didn't have a great time in the parks. However, there were times when they were very much an impediment.

Pickpockets!

:scared:

;)

After my previous post, I thought of a few other solutions to the waves of Brazilian tour groups:

1. Post FastPass ticket machines outside of bathrooms, tram car lines, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Tomorrowland Transit (for that matter). This should cause plenty of jam ups of unsuspecting tour guides trying to cram as many of his tour group into areas that don't require long waits.

2. When you see a large group of Brazilians heading your way, roll a soccer ball (er excuse me a futbol) the other way. (This works with most Europeans as well, except you can expect the occassional riot to occur.)

3. Tell them that Pele is signing autographs at the Wide World of Sports complex. Or that Ronaldhino was spotted at Sea World.

4. Post signs (in Portugese) that there's a Samba dance contest in Mickey's Toon Town. This will put several hundred Brazilian's into an army of Strollers. Having been run down by a few of those oblivious strollers myself, it will only take a few minutes to "thin the herd".

5. Persuade the Brazilian government to change the date of Carnivale to the entire month of July.

--Before I start sounding like a Letterman top 10 list, please note that all of above (as well with most of my posts) are lighthearted and with good humor. If I offended anyone, then I'll do the what we americans are good at........... blame my parents!

Seriously? I'm crying from laughing so hard at all of your wonderful "ideas." Thanks for adding a bit of levity to this mix.

Please don't misunderstand, I certainly don't mean to downplay the issues that you and others have had. I am completely aware that they are going on, I just haven't had any problems personally yet. I'm sure my time will come! My comment wasn't meant to be a "Just suck it up, people." type thing, I was just posting my personal experience.

Come to think of it, I don't go much in July, more in the Autumn months. It seems as though England and the rest of the UK has emptied out and are in Orlando, but I have always found them to be polite, calm and appropriate. And I love listening to their accents!

This is funny!

I think Disney should post the days that the Brazil groups are in the park and lower the price (call it Hazzard Days)....

... also I think they should post the days that the UK guest are there in large numbers.... and I don't care if they slightly raise the price (call it Extra Happy Days in the park) :)

When I go and the park is full of folks from England it is just such a nice place to be!
I'd take a park full of folks from the UK over anything else. They just know how to relax, have lots of fun, and get along with other guest :cloud9:

Its not Race.... it's culture that makes the differance. Shure teens are rowdy, and one could argue that its age...but That's not the real problem...It's the leaders of these groups bringing a Brazilian attitude that our group isn't going to play by the rules. The kids follow the adult in these groups.

 thanks for that comment :flower3:

ah HA! I have the answer....

USA Today

Brazil stung by scorpion invasion

July 25 - Health officials in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro have seen a recent 'invasion' of the highly poisonous yellow scorpion.

AP

They were all escaping....

Large goups of teenagers are a serious problem, no matter where are they from...:sad2:

I was at Universal last week... and we saw many small groups of girls from Brazil.

No chanting, and very good behavior :thumbsup2

Average group was only about 20 people :crowded: fewer kids and more adults in each group.

This thread is very old and several other threads exist with instructions on how to avoid large tour groups of any nationality.

Let's remember that bashing of any variety will not be permitted, no matter how well deserved some may perceive it to be.

Thanks,

Knox
