insurance when mailing your resale payment

So I mailed out out payment for our resale. I sent it certified mail so that i will have a receipt as to when the title company will receive it. I was excited to send off the check, but then when i got home I was worried that i should have bought some insurance as the envelop does contain a hefty bank check.

How does everyone usually send/mail their payments?

Hopefully all goes well and they receive it on Friday as it shows in the tracking.

Eh... I also just sent a cashier's check. I think it's incredibly hard to cash a bank or cashier's check if you're not the intended recipient, so the worst that could happen would be a hefty delay while the bank cancels out and reimburses the value of your lost check.

I just sent my paperwork via FedEx overnight.

You should have the other side of the cashier's check so if your tracking never shows as delivered, you would have that proof.

Insurance typically doesn't cover negotiable instruments. You'd be insuring the cost of issuing the check, not the value of the check. You can send cash via registered mail, but otherwise, first class mail is more than adequate.

Well I was reading a post on another forum about someone sending their payment through USPS and they ran into a bunch of delays and the payment had to be sent back to them. A second attempt at sending it through USPS also proved to have a delay in delivery again.

So my situation has me worried. I mailed out our payment with delivery confirmation and signature required last Tuesday 11/10 - The expected delivery date was Friday 11/13. Well I thought that was rather quick for my package to get from MA to FL. So when i checked on Monday 11/16 it stated that there is a delay in delivery. Tracking notes that it has made it to Orlando as of 11/14 but has not made it to it's destination.

This is from their website on my tracking : The package is delayed and will not be delivered by the expected delivery date. An updated delivery date will be provided when available. Your item arrived at our USPS destination facility in ORLANDO, FL 32824 on November 14, 2015 at 1:13 pm. The item is currently in transit to the destination. Today is the 18th -- does it really take 4 days for something to get from orlando sorting facility to an orlando address?

What can i do -- are you able to call USPS to find out where it really is? or is online tracking my only option to know what is going on. I don't care that is it taking so long, but don't tell me it will arrive in 2 days when it really takes a week. NEVER AGAIN will i send anything important through USPS.

You say "package." Did you send it priority mail? A check and maybe a few signed documents should have fit in a first-class envelope. Many people don't realize that "Priority Mail" used to be called "Second Class," between First Class and "Standard" mail. When I mailed my checks, I always put it in a normal envelope and used a single stamp. It always got there in two or three days.

Even though the USPS tracking still says my envelope is delayed thankfully I received an email from the closing company that they received the paperwork!!! Now to wait for our official closing and membership information. At this rate it will make for an exciting Christmas gift.
