Inspired by Deafmedic debacle . . . have you lied/embellished on the Internet?

I think that ones behavior on message boards says a lot about their behavior in real life...

or their lack of a real life.

Yep, me, too. Even my DH, who edits papers as part of his job, makes mistakes from time to time. Of course when I see it I point it out to him, but it's only my insecurities talking. ;) :rotfl:

All 3 of my boys liked it, too (even my ultra picky 12yo). My poor DH came back into the kitchen and said, "thanks for saving me some...". I did save him a little. And no, when buying it I didn't tell him WHY I was buying it. :rotfl2:

Yep, she's alive and well. OK, maybe well is stretching it, in a mental sense. Sick, huh? Here is a locked thread that explains it plus about 18 pages of commentary. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=974846

OMG is all I can say. How sick and twisted is that? I read the original thread about her dying and was really upset for the DH. As a matter of fact, yesterday morning I passed an awful car accident where one of the drivers and her 19 yo daughter died as a result of being rearended by someone who was "swerving in and out of traffic" , according to witnesses, and had Lortabs and marijuana in his system. And no, I'm not making it up :) , DH is a police officer so I get the skinny on everything in town. I have not been able to get that family out of my mind and one of the first things I thought of was Deafmedic and her girls. Don't even know them from Adam, but I thought of them and felt really bad about the situation.

There are just no words to describe how twisted you have to be to lie about something like that. :confused3

If your conscience didn't stop you, it seems like the fear of KARMA would.

I don't always tell the truth, but I never lie. How's that, you ask? Time travel...think about it! And before anyone try's to correct my spelling or grammer, that's how we do things from my time.

See, I am just ahead of my time. I new I was speical! :teeth:

Tigger&Belle, and am so gald you liked it. The nuts on top are the extra special treat I think. I was just looking for SOMETHING I could eat with out egg or dairy in it. Did you know sushi has egg white in it? I miss sushi. We are going to a holiday party today and I was complaining to DH that I would be better off at a Jewish party, at least I could eat more kosher food! ;)

LaLa, Karma isn't going to be good for this family. They need more prayers then ever now. However I don't think it is going to help much. :guilty:

Trust me, we already knew! When you were on vacation you should have seen the threads that were posted about you. Of course they were all removed before you returned, but they were really something else. :rotfl2:

It's bad to have an affair on-line. It's worse to have one in real life.

Do you know this for a fact? Because the online affair that nearly destroyed my life sure felt every bit as bad as a "real" one. Maybe worse, because you can't compete with a fantasy.

I never lie on the Dis :cool1:

Occasionaly, I play pool online but hate to chat. So, when someone asks me my a/s/l, I just type in that I'm an 80 year old man and hope they lose interest :)

In order to attempt to determine how 'bad' one situation is compared to another, you have to use 'like' scenarios. Lying to people you befriend you on the internet is comparable to lying to friends IRL who cannot substantiate what you say easily. It's not comparable to lying to those who are affected on a daily basis by your physical presence (like a spouse or family member), but noone was saying it was.

Lying to your friends about your death and that of your childrens is no different IRL than it is online because the same result happens when you are caught, people feeling hurt and betrayed. Those feeling are just as real to a person IRL as it is to a person online...because behind the screen is a REAL person.

Internet message boards are not a virtual world where you are interacting with computers. It is a communication tool. One that brings together REAL people with REAL feelings. No less real than those who stand in front of you.

When people form a friendship, it is not necessarily based on the ability to see or touch the person you are connecting with...in real life or on the net. If that were the case, it would be sensible to say that a blind persons friendship is just not as valid as that of a sighted person. That is obviously not true. The same can be said for internet relationships.

Saying that lying to your friends on the internet is not as bad as lying IRL is like saying that lying on the telephone is not as bad as face to face. JMHO

Yeah, what she said!

How can you actually type something so well thought out, this early in the morning, when you must have a few kittens climbing all over you? ;) :rotfl:

LOL One of my kittens likes to wait until I'm sitting in the kitchen on a stool, at my laptop. Then he sits on the floor and attacks my leg or my hand. He doesn't want to get on my lap, but just wants to terrorize me. I wish he would go for one of the dogs (he sometimes does). He is such a little devil. It's the same kitten that climbs up me, onto my shoulder, when I'm getting his food ready. Sometimes I don't even see him coming. Ouch! But it's so funny at the same time.
