Infant Seat on Plane

can I take the base on the plane with me and install it on the plane or should I gate check it?

I know that my seat is FAA approved and has the sticker to prove it. In the instuction manual, it doesn't say if the seat should/can be installed on the plane with the base.

I'm pretty sure you can't install it. The sticker is on the actual seat, not the base, right?

In any case, bases are for convenience - not safety. You don't really need to bring it at all. But if you really wanted it on the arrival end, I'd bring it aboard and stow it in the overhead.

Good question, I'm going to have to check the base, but I think you are right.

I'll probably just bring it on board or gate check it.

Most models of base cannot be properly installed on an aircraft, because the belt buckle on an aircraft belt fastens in the middle rather than on the side.

Unless you can clip your carseat into the base with a deck of cards wedged between the top of the base and the carseat, it won't work.

Honestly, I find that it usually is not worth the trouble to haul along a carseat base when traveling, particularly when going to theme parks. Leave the seat buckled into your rental car without the base, and take baby to the parks with just the stroller.
