Incredible Experience with DVC Member Guide

I have been a DVC member since 2011. During this time, I bought into DVC and have added on an additional 4 times. Just wanted to share about my unbelievable experience with my member guide. His name is Derek DeBoer and if you have any questions, definitely request him. Before joining, I didn't even know what DVC was. I actually stumbled into one of their offsite stores that at the time was located in the Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, IL. I thought it was a place to plan a single vacation. Derek took time to explain everything to me, met with me multiple times, and even allowed me to bring a friend to the villa demo at their location. He never put pressure on me to purchase and even as I have added on, he has always been really helpful in checking point availability, allowing me to drag my feet while making the decision.

If you aren't aware, DVC recently changed the referral program so there is no personal benefit to me by sharing this information. I know that not everyone has had a positive experience either with DVC or their member guide but my experience couldn't be more difference and others feel like once they start the process they will be bothered incessantly until they purchase. Just wanted you to know that if you have questions or want someone to explain it all to you, Derek is the guide to ask for!

Wow, thanks! We really liked the guide we had, but sadly he left a few years ago. When he was our guide, for 10 years, he called us to welcome us home on every trip to WDW. Since he left, we've had a succession of a few other guides whom we've rarely, if ever, had any communication with. Thanks for the recommendation. And BTW, we were in Schaumburg for a wedding a few years ago. I wish we'd seen the location in the Woodfield Mall.

I definitely did send an email to some DVC guide supervisor. I definitely wanted them to know there should celebrate Derek and try to replicate him!

They actually closed all off-site locations a few years ago. Super bummed about that...although probably good for my bank account that I can't be headed to the gap for jeans and add-on instead They offered the people the ability relocate to Orlando so at least that is good. Yes, I know that if you call and make a special request, whoever your guide currently is can be switched to whoever you want it to be.

I would be careful what you say to his boss. While taking plenty of time to meet with you seems like a good thing from the buyers perspective, he isn't paid to meet, he is paid to sell.

I hear ya, but at the same rate I did end up purchasing and have added on 4 times due to the tactics he employed so I would hope the supervisor understands that his choices were clearly spot on.

In your case yes, with others maybe not so much. Guides have a closing index that looks at the number of presentations and the number of sales.

Just say that he is great and because of him you bought several times!

Derek was my guide, back when I made both purchases at the Woodfield Doorway to Dreams store. When they closed the store, Derek lost his job and I was assigned to a new guide, Lisa something or other. Fast forward a few years later and Derek moved his family to Florida and rejoined DVC as guide on DCL. We are Facebook friends and I really enjoy his posts from various cruises. He's a great guy, just as the OP stated. I should probably request him as my guide again, but since I don't have any intention of adding on, it probably doesn't serve any useful purpose.
