Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

I really wanted to stay at AK... Is anyone else staying there that we can "share a ride" with to get back after the race?

I haven't booked my room yet sooo, any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know how the spectators get to the after party, does the resort transportation take them? I have completed races before, but I am for some reason confused by the set up of disney transportation for these events (forgive me im an uber planner!) :goodvibes

Pop century actually has a bus that runs from there to the Wide World of Sports. You get on it out front, where you get the buses going to theme parks. May want to check with them though to make sure they are running late enough to get you to the start of the race.

Getting back from EPCOT is another story. I will have a car. I am going to park it at EPCOT and then go do whatever we decide to do for the day, using Disney transportation. Then my car will be there when I finish the race that night. I do not think Pop Century will have a bus running from EPCOT after the race.

Forgive me if this has been posted before and answered, but I am REALLY confused about transportation for the half marathon. I really want my first half to be at disney.

We are planning on a doing a week long vaca at POP (its our fave + free dining)...I was thinking for packet pick up I will be so close to the Wide World of Sports that I could take a morning jog over or taxi even from the hotel. But the actual night of the race I am concerned. Do you think its possible for me to grab a taxi to Wide World of Sports from POP that night and then back after the race from EPCOT? Also what about my boyfriend that is going with me and will be a spectator? Should I just have him head to EPCOT? I wasnt sure how all this would work....thanks so much for all the help :)

Well I just booked POP on a whim this morning when I saw Free Dining for the public :goodvibes Hopefully I can find a way to get to and from the activities that weekend! Cannot wait and hope to see some of the people from this thread there :cloud9:

I'm pretty sure ALL the host resorts will have transport in both directions.

Is Pop Century a host resort? I cannot check right now. The site does not load well on my work computer. I would be surprised (my luck is usually not that good).

Actually, no. ASSports is, though, if you're looking for a host Value.

Hi all,

Not doing this race, but I did notice that a new room-only discount is out which runs through October 2. So you may be able to save some $ for some of the nights.

Has anyone done a race in WDW in October before, who could comment on what temperature it might be? I know it's not really indicative, but just wondering.

I did Race for the Taste last year, I think Oct 10. It was 70+ with high humidity at 7 am. Brutal running weather.

But you never can tell....

I realize this is a completely OCD question but here goes. Since this race is at night I am planning on having my large meal at lunch (Le Cellier) and then something light at my regular dinner time (6-7pm).

I'm wondering if a salad is the way to go or a sandwich? OCD right? I just remember being pregnant with my first and throwing up a Salad (and now TMI as well), although I'm not anticipating puking anytime during or after the race.

SO what do you all suggest for meals on race day with this 10pm race?

RE: race transportation - only the host hotels will be providing transportation. This is different from marathon weekend in January. I'm staying at Pop, which is not a host hotel and will either need to catch a ride with someone or take a taxi. After completing the ToT 13K in 2008 there were lots of taxis waiting for folks who weren't staying at host hotels and it was an inexpensive ride back to Pop.

I've done Race for the Taste and I felt the temp was fine.
I'm really looking forward to this new race, and in my experience temp's drop quite a bit in the evening so I'm hoping this night race will be fairly comfortable.

I am planning on an early lunch to be my main meal of the day and will probably shoot for things like bagels and fruit as it gets closer to race time.

Between a salad and sandwich I would go with a sandwich, preferably with jam or jelly as opposed to lunch meat. As you get closer to the race you want things that will provide energy quickly and not sit in your stomach weighing you down.

I did the tower of terror 13K race last year. It was late October, and brutally hot. The year before was on the cold side though, so you never know.

Given that the race is early October, I think odds are pretty good that you are going to be dealing with warm weather as opposed to cold.

I'm skipping lunch, and we're eating at Narcoosee's at 5:30p. I do best having a meal about 5 hours before I run, so this'll be perfect. I think if I had a big lunch and then ate lightly, I'd pass out by the first mile marker.

:goodvibesIt's different for everyone! I haven't quite figured out what I'm going to do yet.

I'm so glad to see that others are already thinking about what/when they are going to eat race day. I'm planning, big breakfast, tea at the GF, light dinner (Not sure what yet). But I'm really not sure!!!!

Also, I am staying at Boardwalk and I called the Race People (forget the official name) and they said that transportation was ONLY for those staying at host Hotels. This didn't make me happy because I was hoping to get the bus from Beach Club to WWOS pre race then walk back to BW after the race.
They gave me the number for more important race people, I called left a message, they called back when I wasn't home. Now I need to call them back!

I'll let everyone know what I find out. If you will give me your eating ideas!

I'm interested to hear about this as well. We are also staying at the Boardwalk, and I just assumed that we could walk across to the Beach Club and hop on the bus. How will they know who's staying there and who's not?:confused3
