Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

Well, after talking about this for months, my DW and I have registered for this race. That was the easy part; now we have to commit to the training. I've done two marathons, but it's been more than 15 years ago. My DW has never done a race longer than 7 miles, so this was really about her setting a personal challenge. It's also the first "empty nest" trip for us! (I suppose some might consider this choice for that trip a little warped; running may have jarred our brains a bit):)

I'm interested to hear about this as well. We are also staying at the Boardwalk, and I just assumed that we could walk across to the Beach Club and hop on the bus. How will they know who's staying there and who's not?:confused3

Yes, please keep us informed. We're staying at GF and were expecting to walk over to the Poly.

I'm so glad to see that others are already thinking about what/when they are going to eat race day. I'm planning, big breakfast, tea at the GF, light dinner (Not sure what yet). But I'm really not sure!!!!

Also, I am staying at Boardwalk and I called the Race People (forget the official name) and they said that transportation was ONLY for those staying at host Hotels. This didn't make me happy because I was hoping to get the bus from Beach Club to WWOS pre race then walk back to BW after the race.
They gave me the number for more important race people, I called left a message, they called back when I wasn't home. Now I need to call them back!

I'll let everyone know what I find out. If you will give me your eating ideas!

I called the Race number, left a message and a guy named Adam I believe it was called me back. He told me over the phone that they hadn't worked all the kinks out yet because this was a new race ( I was curious how my spectator was going to get to EPCOT and we are staying at POP). Also he told me that he thinks I should be able to get on the host hotel transportation (we were going to eat at Poly and take that bus), but I'm such a worry wart - I am sure I can just take taxis if anything :goodvibes

On another a note....I ALWAYS wear my ipod to run (its keeps me in the groove of running) and have always ran races where they were allowed or even encouraged. I am curious if people have run the disney races using headsets, because I saw on the website that they were "discouraged"
:confused3 Thanks for all the help :goodvibes

When I moved away my parents took an empty nest trip too :goodvibes But I would not allow them to go to disney without me now :rotfl:

Good luck to you guys, I am sure you will have a great time and this will be my longest race too, the longest I have finished is a 10k

I will probably be using my iPhone playlist, too. Granted, it's mostly loaded with Disney songs. :)

I have done two half marathons at WDW and used my iPod both times. No one ever said a word to me about it and I saw many others with headpones/earbuds as well.

:welcome: and congrats on signing up! Don't worry you're in good company with new racers. This will be my first Disney race and my first half-relay marathon.

I am using the training program from Running for Mortals by John Bingham. He also wrote Marathoning for Mortals, but I haven't read that one. I read the Dis Unplugged interview with John and well as listened to the podcast interview and they really inspired me and gave me the courage to do this race.

Hope to see you there! :wizard:

Wonderful!!!
This will be my first "big" race and my first Disney race as well... Looking forward to seeing you all!!!
I hope you continue to let us know how you are doing.

You sound like my daughters. We are getting away with going without them in October by agreeing to take them to WDW (and US/Harry Potter) in early January 2011 during college break.:lmao:

My DH and I are planning on running it too. I have wanted to run a marathon for years and the half should be a good launching point.

We will be staying at ASSp and are booked for a long weekend with free dining! We are going without the kids, but will be going back in December with them.

I am sorry for asking, but I cannot get the ESPN website to work properly to view. Is there a % listed for this race yet as to how full it is?
thanks.

No percentage is listed as of right now. (Half Marathon for Marathon Weekend 2011 is at 50% though.)

And early January 2011 gives you another marathon weekend to run if you time it right...just sayin' :rolleyes1

I really wouldn't worry about this. In March I was booked at POR and got an upgrade to the Yacht Club, which was not an official race hotel. I just walked over to the Beach Club. Nobody asked me where I was staying and I just jumped on the bus. I doubt they will be looking up room reservations. :goodvibes

I spoke with the reps at the Indianapolis 1/2 marathon this past weekend. They indicated that they will be putting a cap of 2,000 on the relay. Still no idea what the medal is though.

As of this evening, both the Relay and Individual Half Marathon registration hit 50%.

Thanks for posting this. It looks like I will have to get busy soon and book my registration. At least I have my room booked.

I looked through the site and couldn't find it..does anyone know the pace for this race? I did the TOT 13K last year and really enjoyed it. I like running at night and thought this would be a good first 1/2 marathon to try.

I believe you need to maintain a 16 minute mile.
