Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

So if I am just now trained enough to do a 5k, is it realistic for a slightly overweight Mommy to train to do the full half? I've been planning on doing the half relay. My head is just spinning thinking of 13 miles. I want to die at 3 miles now.

How often do you run? I stop at about 6 miles now, and fully intend on doing the half.

Definitely! Just build your miles slowly. I used to want to die at one mile, now I want to die at mile 11 :). I think anything over 12-14 weeks is plenty of time to train for a half especially if you're already running. The book I read (Marathoning for Mortals) starts their "running half" training programs at 14 weeks.

You still have 6 months so I think it is possible. You may not win the race but I am confident that as long as you continue to progress on whatever plan you are doing you will have plenty of time to train for the race.

I am running 3 days a week. I am up to about 2 miles a day. I have been training for about 8 weeks, but just really got into the groove of things about 3-4 weeks ago. I was having lots of knee pain, but started going to a chiro and he has cured it! My other thought is that this run is part of a vacation and I do want to be able to tour the parks before & after the race.

I consider walking around the parks before the race as keeping loosened up and in shape, and touring afterwards actually helps me recover better.
Go for it!
I plan to walk it myself. :)

Just had to share...I completed my second ever 5K (first for this year) today! I didn't do the timed race but was around 40 minutes! I was hoping for 45 mins!
I'm ready for the next!

Congratulations.

Does anyone know if there would be any discounts on MNSSHP for the participants of the 1/2 marathon?

Good question. I haven't heard of any discounts other than the Advance Purchase, AP or DVC discounts. I believe 10/3 would be eligible for the Advance Purchase (meaning at least the day prior to the party) for $53.95/adult.

I think I've decided to buy an AP so that I MUST come back for the Princess Half! ;) Heck, maybe I can get DH to do the Wine & Dine Half with me next Oct too! WooHOO! Guess it's official - I'm addicted! :lmao:

Apparently, not. If you're doing the 5k, you get a free ticket to the 10/3 party. This frustrates me on a few levels. First, a half-marathon is just as deserving an effort as the 5k. Second, people are more likely to be in town for the 10/1 party than the 10/3.

Do the people doing the 5K get to attend the party after the half?

From my understanding the 5K price is higher than the normal price for a Disney 5K which makes me think that the MNSSHP is covered by the entry fee.

In which case, that's even more :sad2:. I imagine a ton of people are then paying for something they won't be in Orlando long enough to attend.

When I was first looking at the Wine & Dine site I believe they were initially including entry to the Finish Line Party; that is no longer the case. It is now changed to entry to MNSSHP and if you'd like to attend the Finish Line party you must purchase a spectator ticket.

It doesn't appear so because it isn't listed as something you get. You could email them to confirm this but I am pretty certain you do not.

The fee for the 5K includes a ticket to the MNNSHP on 10/3. I will be on a plane home so I didn't do the 5K because I was not about to pay $99 to run anywhere, even through a Disney park. If you are able to take advantage of the ticket and were considering it anyway it isn't a terrible deal since it is basically $53.95 for the ticket and $45.05 for the race.

I got the 20/30/40 pin code and decided to book a room at the GF because I've always wanted to stay there. I know that it isn't a race hotel, but I am planning to take the bus back to Poly and then walk over to the GF. My question is, do you think I will be safe walking in the middle of the night? Is the path well lit? If I chicken out, do you think I can catch a cab after the race instead?

We'll be doing the same thing (bus/walk back to GF). I imagine there'll be a group of us, so you won't be alone :-) Not sure how well the path is lit, but I'm having my boyfriend pack flashlights.

Oh good, I'm glad I'm not the only one with this plan. That makes me feel much better!

Forgive me if this has been posted before and answered, but I am REALLY confused about transportation for the half marathon. I really want my first half to be at disney.

We are planning on a doing a week long vaca at POP (its our fave + free dining)...I was thinking for packet pick up I will be so close to the Wide World of Sports that I could take a morning jog over or taxi even from the hotel. But the actual night of the race I am concerned. Do you think its possible for me to grab a taxi to Wide World of Sports from POP that night and then back after the race from EPCOT? Also what about my boyfriend that is going with me and will be a spectator? Should I just have him head to EPCOT? I wasnt sure how all this would work....thanks so much for all the help :)

We're staying at the GF and walking back and forth from Poly to grab their host resort buses. Not chancing taxis on either end because of the late night race.
