In Training: Marathon Weekend 2015 (Dopey Challenge)! **COMPLETE**

Oo... So Pretty! So biomechanically unstable! But Pretty!!
So true!!!
Part of my race anxiety is to develop a heeled shoe phobia about three weeks out from a big race... :rotfl:
Take it from me, because I can now tell you from firsthand experience...this is a GOOD phobia to develop!!! :faint:
Those look super cute but yeah, I could see them hurting the ankles. When I was at my reunion, I had on like 2" heels & my shins were sore from the dancing the next day.
::yes:: I do still like them a lot. Maybe if I'd practiced a bit more beforehand...

I did not dance in them at all! You are braver than I am. I had a pair of flip flops and as soon as my "official" bridesmaid duties were over, the pretty shoes came off and the flip flops were on for the rest of the night. :thumbsup2

July 2014 Cruise Update - 1 Month Away!!!

:hyper:

It's almost cruise time!!!!!

At this very moment, one month from now, we will be at the airport waiting to board our flight to Disney! And one month from tomorrow is embarkation day! :yay:

13-09_CruiseEdit_137.jpg

I don't really have a ton of updates, just wanted to do the official "I'll be in Disney one month from today" post! That's an official thing, right?! :goodvibes Ahhh, I'm getting so freaking excited for this cruise!!

13-09_CruiseEdit_138.jpg

In fact, I'm so excited that I'm bummed at the same time - bummed that we only booked a 4-nighter and bummed for my future post-cruise self, because I have a feeling I'll be pretty sad when this one is over.

13-09_CruiseEdit_140.jpg

But now is not the time to think about that!! ::yes::

I still have my list of things I need to do on embarkation day. I have one thing to add to that - I need to go to Guest Services and put our Disney Visa Rewards on our room charge account. We've racked up a decent amount of rewards by now and are ready to dump that credit card (I'll probably get into WHY we're dumping that card a few weeks from now) so I want to use up the rewards before we close it.

13-09_CruiseEdit_148.jpg

Besides that...the only other news is that we booked an excursion!

13-09_CruiseEdit_145.jpg

We'd originally planned on not getting off the ship at all on Nassau day. But a couple of days ago Will mentioned that he was re-thinking that and wanted to possibly get his feet "on solid ground," if only for a bit. I do think he's getting excited for the cruise, but is still a little nervous, so I agreed - we'd leave the ship for a bit on Nassau day.

13-09_CruiseEdit_324.jpg

And since we're leaving the ship, why not do an excursion?! Most excursions have to do with Atlantis and/or Dolphin encounters, but we're going a different route.

We won't see ya real soon, Atlantis!
13-09_CruiseEdit_326.jpg

I logged onto the cruise site yesterday and booked THIS for us...

Graycliff Chocolatier - The Art of Chocolate Making and Factory Tour
On this tour you will:
-Take an approximate 10-minute transfer to the Graycliff Chocolatier at the Graycliff Hotel and Restaurant. Here, you will learn the process of making chocolate – from the bean to the final product.
-Take a short tour of the factory where you will see a demonstration of grinding and roasting of cacao beans, mixing the liquid chocolate, filling the chocolate molds and more.
-Move to the demonstration room and suit up in your hygienic coveralls. Here, you will learn the origin of regional cacao beans, the importance of promoting fair trade and organic farming and how beans are processed creating the final chocolate product.
-Now it's your turn! Graycliff's Chocolatier will teach you techniques for dipping, glazing and filling moulds to create your own delicious chocolate bonbons.
-You'll sample a variety of chocolates from white, milk and various levels of dark chocolate.
-Leave with a souvenir of your own creations carefully packaged in a Graycliff Chocolatier box.
-You will have time to browse the Graycliff Chocolatier boutique, view photos of your tour and pick up your gift boxes before your return transfer to the pier.

NOM. :teeth:

There was only one timeslot available when I booked (10:45AM - 1:45PM) but really, I was surprised anything was left this close to the cruise. The excursion is a little pricey at $59 per person, and the timing will be a little weird with lunch, but otherwise I think it's perfect. It's short, but just long enough for Will to get back on land for a bit - and we get to eat chocolate. So there's that, obviously.

Woohoo!!! :yay:

I bet you are so excited to be just a month away from being in Disney!! :woohoo:

The excursion sounds perfect. I think I would be far more into that than the others. Educational, entertaining and what is not to like about CHOCOLATE???!!

YES! I feel like this month is going to craawwwwl by.

::yes:: I almost didn't book it because we'll be eating enough already on the ship...but CHOCOLATE! :lovestruc I hope it's a good one!

Week 5 of 4th of July 5-miler Training
Monday, June 16, 2014 - Sunday, June 22, 2014

16.75 miles completed
69.6 miles completed in 5-miler Training
325.4 miles completed in 2014 so far

Monday, June 16: Strength Training (ChaLEAN Extreme Burn 1) + Ab Burner

Back to it after 3 whole days without exercise! Although Friday was pretty intense with all of the primping, picture-taking and dancing...

Anyway, on Thursday I completed my first round of CLX, so I'm starting over again today. I definitely think this program will be good for me to do when Dopey training starts - it's good total-body strengthening and there's a focus on the legs, which will be important for keeping my knees healthy. I actually thought the Lean Circuit was a little light on legs stuff (literally and figuratively) so I'm glad to get back to heavier leg exercises.

Before heading to the gym I finally worked up the nerve to face the scale after eating out on Wednesday and Thursday, the wedding Friday, and not keeping track of what I ate at all on Saturday and Sunday...plus significantly less exercise than normal. I was VERY pleasantly surprised to see that I'm only up 0.4 pounds from Thursday! Woohoo!

I felt great working out this morning. I was so exhausted this weekend and this morning it just felt really good to get the blood pumping again. :) Ab burner went well too.

This week is a step-back week in 5-miler training...last week was supposed to be a little more mileage but, of course, I didn't do my last 2 runs. Oops! While driving in this morning it occurred to me that the 5-miler is coming up really soon - just a little over two weeks away - and I am SO not excited for it. :upsidedow Oh well!

Also, today was Will's first day of grad school classes. It's his second semester, he'll be taking two classes Monday - Thursday, and will be there from 8AM - 12:30PM for 5 weeks. So an entire semester's worth of two classes in a little over a month…!!! But the great news is that after he's done it's CRUISE TIME BABY! I feel like I've been ticking off events in my mind leading up to the cruise...first the 10K and Gaga, then the wedding, now Will starting school...soooooo close. I'm also really nervous about whether Will is actually going to like the cruise or not (he's said in the past he's pretty nervous)...well, we have a slideshow of photos as the screensaver for our computer and while I was making dinner yesterday I heard Will say, very excitedly, "Look, there's Castaway Cay!" I have to say, I was sooooo glad to hear the excitement in his voice. Yay!

Because how can you not be excited for this?!
13-09_CruiseEdit_405.jpg

Tuesday, June 17: Run #1 (3 miles on the treadmill) + Ab Ripper X (21)

First run since Thursday! It went pretty well - I could definitely feel a little stiffness and soreness at times, but overall it felt good! The ankles held up well. Total time for 3 miles was 32:08, 10:43ish/mile pace. After the run I did Ab Ripper X for the first time in over a week, and I bumped my reps up to 21 per move. Woo! With Will's school schedule he gets up around the same time I do, which has been helpful for me getting to the gym at an earlier time. Nice to have enough time to get the abs stuff done in the morning.

Cruise Update: I've been checking my Wine & Dine flights pretty religiously for any price drops, but for whatever reason I haven't been doing the same with our cruise flights. Today I decided to take a look and found that while our flights down to Orlando had gone up, our flights going home had dropped by $16. So I re-booked them! I feel a little silly re-booking flights for such small amounts, but it's adding up - now I have $66 in credits for Southwest (Will has $16). Yeehaw! Just a little over a month until embarkation day!

13-09_CruiseEdit_142.jpg

Wednesday, June 18: Strength Training (ChaLEAN Extreme Burn 2) + Ab Burner

This workout was ROUGH. My thought that the workouts in the Lean circuit were sort of light on heavy leg work was definitely confirmed for me today. Even though I've been strength training regularly, my legs felt like jelly by the time I was done. Arms felt okay though. Abs stuff was fine.

YAWN! :upsidedow

Thursday, June 19: Run #2 (8x400 planned, 4.25 miles completed)

1 month from today we will be flying to Walt Disney World!! WOOOOHOOOOOO!

13-09_CruiseEdit_007.jpg

Anyway...today was speedwork day! After yesterday's strength training session my hamstrings are freaking killing me today! They actually felt really good during the run, but they definitely made their presence known when I woke up this morning, and they are SORE.

Speaking of the run...it was great! I woke up slightly earlier than normal because I knew it would take a bit longer, but sometimes when I wake up earlier I'm stupid about it and move slower in the morning - and end up getting to the gym a little later than planned. This was one of those mornings. So I think part of what made the run good was that I was focusing less on the run and more on "OMG I NEED TO HURRY I'M GOING TO BE LATE AGEKGHALKNSDFLKARG." I completed my intervals pretty comfortably and ended up going 4.25 miles total in a little under 50 minutes.

**WW UPDATE**
After my somewhat gluttonous wedding weekend (for a wedding that wasn't even my own!) and two weeks in a row of small gains, I was pleased to have a loss this week - down 1 pound! That puts me at 5.2 pounds lost since I re-started WW 1 month ago today, and 2.4 pounds away from my cruise goal (which would also take me out of "overweight" BMI classification back into "normal" BMI classification).

The app yelled at me again this morning. Apparently it thinks I am losing weight too fast...? :confused3 5.2 pounds in a month doesn't seem crazy to me, so whatever.

Also, after work I went to pick up my dress that I wore for the wedding from the dry cleaner. When I was there I noticed a flyer in the window for that 4th of July 5-mile race I signed up for...the one that I had trouble registering for. There was a new contact email on this flyer, so I whipped my phone out and sent a quick email. We'll see if someone actually responds!

Friday, June 20: Run #3 (5.5 mile loop)
Weather: 68 degrees and breezy, overcast and then sunny

Today I actually got up early to complete my run! I am so proud of myself. I also wore the outfit that I am pretty sure I will wear for the 5K in January - the shirt is a Raw Threads top (the equilibrium-style tank top) and after the mess I had with the racerbacks, I wanted to make sure this one actually worked as I hadn't gone for a run it in yet. Except for the fact that it really showed the sweat a lot (which I think is mostly a function of the color of the shirt more than anything), it was great! So I think I may go ahead and re-order those tops I had in this style.

Splits:
Mile 1: 10:35
Mile 2: 10:11
Mile 3: 11:01 --> 1-minute walk break at the beginning of this mile
Mile 4:10:26
Mile 5: 10:45? --> 1-minute walk break at the beginning of this mile. I had somewhere to be after this run so I wanted to check the time on my watch and accidentally hit the "new lap" button. Rather than learn from this mistake I hit the lap button AGAIN. :headache: So I have like 2 tiny 0.01-mile long laps plus a 0.98-mile long lap that makes up mile 5. Airhead!
Mile 5.0 - 5.5: 4:59, 10:04/mile pace

Total time for 5.5 miles: 58:00, 10:32/mile pace

This was a pretty good run. The first mile was awesome - it was overcast and I felt good. I think I went way too fast on mile 2 and just felt slightly out of gas for the rest of the run. The sun started to come out too, so that didn't help. Hamstrings felt a little better at least. And it was really nice getting my run done so early...I need to remember that.

After the run I hopped in the shower and sped off to the doctor's office for a weight check. At work we can jump through some hoops to get lower premiums on our health insurance, and one of those hoops is participating in "wellness" programs. If they deem you "overweight" (BMI of 27 or above) you need to do their weight management program (they have similar programs for smoking, asthma, high blood pressure, etc. - and while it seems crazy invasive, the way they get around any complaints with it is to make these programs totally optional. You don't have to do it, but it you don't you automatically pay the highest amount for insurance.). I actually got put on the weight management program a few years back and had to check in with a nurse every once in awhile, which was pretty annoying and embarrassing. If I remember correctly they wanted me to lose 7 pounds. I was already enrolled in WW and was doing well with it, so that was pretty easy. Last year I was "healthy" so I didn't have to check in with anyone.

Then I gained some of that weight back - boo! At my physical in April I knew I was right on the border for "healthy" weight, and we need to have our stuff updated by September, so I scheduled a "weight check" with a nurse today to get my weight updated. I think my April weight would have been fine (BMI of 26.5 I think?) but I really don't want to come close to being flagged in the system so why not try again? Today my BMI was 24.69 or something! And the appointment was free and only took about 10 minutes. :thumbsup2 Woohoo for cheaper health insurance!

In other news, I got an email back from the 5-miler race director. Actually, everyone that signed up online did - because they didn't ask for our gender, age or date of birth during sign-up. :rolleyes2 Ummm...okay? You're welcome, race director! I should get free race registration for that! :wizard:

Also...look what came in the mail today!!!

For any non-cruisers out there, this is the Disney Cruise Line version of a Magical Express booklet!

Can't believe we'll be on the ship one month from TODAY! YAY!!!!

Saturday, June 21: Run #4 (4 miles) + Strength Training (ChaLEAN Extreme Burn 3)
Weather: 72 degrees, sunny with a breeze

Oh man...I forgot just how hard Burn 3 is. :faint:

Somehow I made it through this workout and by the end my legs were like jelly. Oy.

So then I changed into some running clothes and headed out for my 4-miler. The splits tell the story (and that's not a reflection of pace, but more the fact that certain miles were faster than others)...

Mile 1: 10:38...the first half-mile or so was REALLY hard. After I was warmed up I felt pretty good!

Mile 2: 10:23...this mile felt great. At the end of this mile I took my 1-minute walk break as usual...

Mile 3: 11:29...my legs got heavy again during the walk break and never recovered. When will this run end??!

Mile 4: 11:59...survival mode. Many walk breaks. Want to fall over.

:faint:

Total time for 4 miles: 44:31, 11:07/mile pace

So after this run I have come to the conclusion that Burn circuit 3 is the hardest freaking workout ever and that I need to remember that if I do that workout on the same day as a run (or maybe even the day before a run), things may not go well. Yowza.

After that...date night! Will and I tried a new place. I got chicken and waffles, something I've wanted to try for a long time. I thought the chicken and waffles were good separately, but weird together. Maybe I just don’t get it?

We split the "balsamic popcorn" for our appetizer, and the restaurant is inside a building that used to be a bank in, like, the 1920s or something. Amazing architecture...very cool place. I definitely want to go back and try a different entree (Will's was really great).

Sunday, June 22: Rest Day

REST DAY OH YES. I feel like I really needed this one! My legs and butt were really sore when I woke up but have gotten better as the day has gone on. Not a lot on the agenda...a much-needed haircut and grocery shopping. Woohoo!

Cruising has totally taken over my brain this week. AAAAHHH!!!

I think the WW app just likes to yell at you, seesh!

Looks like you got a good week in with your runs & extra work!

Have fun on your cruise! Its only a month away which is awesome. I'm super jealous!

Yeah, apparently there is no pleasing that thing! :rotfl:

Thanks! :goodvibes It was definitely a good week, but by Saturday I was totally wiped! :faint: Go
Have fun on your cruise! Its only a month away which is awesome. I'm super jealous!
Gahhh I can't wait! And then when you are on YOUR cruise in August I will be super jealous of YOU!! We can live vicariously through one another. :goodvibes

Great updates and woohoo on the cruise being only one month away. I'm jealous!!!

That chocolate excursion sounds delicious. :)

My work also does a wellness program. Also optional. Instead of getting lower insurance costs though you earn points that translate to dollars in an HRA account to pay for non-covered health costs. It's really a pretty good deal and pretty easy to earn points for the most part. Great job on the continued weight loss. I'm back on the straight and narrow starting today using My Fitness Pal to control portions and calories. The weight has been sneaking back on again.

I agree! I keep debating over whether or not I really want to do it, because the alternative was to just stay on the ship all day (which would be fun and relaxing)...but I think I'd regret it if we skipped the tour. And the eating. :teeth:

That's interesting. I could see how it would be very nice to get rewards that you can actually "see" and spend. I don't particularly love all of the focus on what I weigh thanks to being in this program...but I do love lower health insurance costs. When it comes down to it, I'll jump on the scale if it means less money out of my paycheck (and therefor more money for traveling!).

Thanks! Ugh, it sucks, doesn't it? :sad2: My brother really likes MFP...for whatever reason I like the points method better, although if I had to pay for WW I'm sure I'd use MFP, too. Good luck!!!

Congrats on the weight loss and lower BMI to get the lower insurance! :woohoo: I agree that your ap seems to just want to yell at you. Lose weight..gain.. it just thinks you are doing it wrong.

I love that your cruise in on your mind and you are sharing pictures. I get to live vicariously that way. :goodvibes

The race never asked for individual specifics? That isn't good.

:goodvibes I'm running out of pictures from that last cruise so I am hoping to come back with a lot more!!

No! Isn't that crazy?! :rolleyes2 Pretty lame for a race being put on by a running club.

Week 6 of 4th of July 5-miler Training
Monday, June 23, 2014 - Sunday, June 29, 2014

21.05 miles completed
73.9 miles completed in 5-miler Training
346.45 miles completed in 2014 so far

Monday, June 23: Strength Training (ChaLEAN Extreme Burn 1) + Ab Burner

It's the last full week of June! How did THAT happen?!

It's also my peak week in 5-miler training. I guess when this week is over I should be topping out at 21ish miles? Seems like sort of a big jump to me from last weeks mileage total, but whatever.

Another Monday morning in the gym with Chalene. My hamstrings are still a wee bit sore from Saturday's workout, but overall I was able to keep up pretty well. There were some Wimbledon matches on, so that was fun to watch. Never thought I'd be interested in tennis...that's what happens when you marry a tennis player, I guess.

Shopping update #1: After many recommendations to check out the Athleta website from my cousin (the one who just got married - she does Crossfit 5-6 times per week and is a coach, so she knows her athletic wear!) I ordered a swimsuit (top/bottom) from the site that came last week. I freaking HATE swimsuit shopping...I think I have the hardest time shopping for swimsuits, bras, jeans and glasses (yep, one random non-clothing item thrown in there). Just not fun! But I picked a suit and so far I like it enough that I ordered a second one in another color (the one I have is grey and I just ordered a red one). My swimsuits that I took on last year's cruise were from Victoria's Secret, and I just never felt comfortable in them, so hopefully I will like these better!

The one thing that Crossfit cousin pointed out about Athleta that really sold me is that they have a great return policy - free shipping on returns AND you can return them any time - which is pretty crazy and awesome! So after reading many reviews and taking some measurements, I originally ended up ordering my suit in a few different sizes (free shipping when you spend $50) and sent back what didn't fit for free. Knowing my size then made it much easier to order suit #2.

Athleta has a bunch of different kinds of clothes (dresses, shoes, swimsuits, athletic wear, etc.) but I haven't tried any of their running clothes yet. I'm sure I will eventually, but I just don’t need any new running clothes right now. Of course, that hasn't stopped me from continuing to buy SparkleSkirts and Raw Threads tops…

Shopping update #2: Speaking of Raw Threads, I've decided that I'm definitely going to order a second set of the ill-fated racerback bow tops, but in the equilibrium style. I wanted to do that this weekend but didn't get around to it, and now I think I'll wait a bit...there's no hurry just yet. My one firm deadline is that I want to wear one of the tops for the Jingle Jungle 5K, and that's not until November. Plenty of time. Once I get those tops I'll be totally set for Marathon Weekend race outfits, except for one Sweaty Band that I'm hoping to get at the Wine & Dine expo (135 days from today!!) and, like...shoes and stuff like that. I'll post about my outfits sometime in the fall. :) Goodbye money!

Fun fact: I opened the countdown app on my phone to see how long it was until Wine & Dine weekend...and noticed that Marathon Weekend is less than 200 days away (197 to be exact!). Time is going to FLY!!

Cruise Update: Look what came in the mail today!

photo.JPG

Yep, that's right. A brand-new set of MagicBands for our 1-night, room-only stay. Seems like sort of a waste to me but I guess we have to get into our room somehow.

Tuesday, June 24: Run #1 (4 miles on the treadmill)

Happy Tuesday! Today's run felt loooooooong. Not sure why, it just did. I was looking forward to watching some of Wimbledon on one of the TVs, but the coverage didn't start until partway through my run, and that was mostly the commentators talking. They didn't start showing any matches until I was done running. Booooooo

One thing I have been forgetting to mention is that I am trying to work on stretching a bit more lately. Mostly I've been doing this in the evenings after dinner for about 5 minutes...not nearly as much as I should be doing but I think it's helping. And this brings me back to something I haven't talked or thought about in months...yoga!

I bought a 15-class pass in January, went to one class, and haven't thought about yoga or that pass I purchased since. Last night it dawned on me that the pass is going to expire this December, so I'd better use it or lose it! I just logged into my account with the studio...turns out the pass actually expires NEXT December. But now that I'm thinking about it again...it's probably time to try to get back to yoga once a week. I know it will be good for me - it'll feel good and help with injury prevention.

So I took the plunge and signed up for my first class since...geez, I don't know, late January? Yikes! Man, I'm going to be terrible.

The class is on July 5th - the day after the 5-mile race - and is called Yoga Flow for All Levels - "an awakening and fluid vinyasa yoga experience with attention to the breath and movement. Appropriate for students of all levels as modifications and embellishments will be offered accordingly." Keys words in that description: "all levels" and "modifications." This ain't gonna be pretty!

So maybe this can become a new habit - on Fridays instead of doubling up on running and strength training I can double up on running followed by yoga? (I wanted to do a class this Friday right after the race but the scheduling won't work out.) That might actually feel pretty good. And I'm sure it'll be really helpful for Dopey Training, assuming I actually keep up with it. HMMM...

Namaste!

Wednesday, June 25: Strength Training (ChaLEAN Extreme Burn 2) + Ab Burner

Tra la la, more CLX this morning. Followed it up with Ab Burner. I decided I'm going to take a break from Ab Ripper X - just got sort of boring after awhile. Going to alternate Ab Burner and Extreme Abs for awhile instead.

Shopping Update #3: *NOTE...apologies for writing a novel here!

I am sure I am not the only one that is on the Disney Store email list - I get an email from the store every morning at about 7AM that details whatever new products they have. This has been both helpful and enabling to me in the past - only by getting this email did I know that the Vera Bradley "Where's Mickey?" print was available online, and I was able to get the hipster before it sold out. Love that bag.

IMG_2961.jpg

Now, I used to think that I was a shoe girl, but over the years I have found that I am definitely a purse girl. I just have a thing for purses, for whatever reason - mostly Disney purses (hence my describing the daily Disney Store emails as "enabling"). I have the Vera I mentioned above, along with 3 Disney Dooneys - a balloon wristlet, a sketch tote and my 20th Marathon Weekend Letter Carrier.

(Don't have a picture of this bag, grabbed this tiny one from Google!)

edited-0184.jpg

I haven't gotten a new Dooney since the marathon one. The patterns that have been coming out lately haven't been all too thrilling to me. I sort of like the retro WDW ones...

retro.jpg

...and I would LOVE this Haunted Mansion Dooney. It becomes available in the parks and online periodically and then sells out immediately (in fact I saw it on the Disney Store website this morning, freaked out and went to buy it...it was sold out). It COULD be mine for somewhere in the neighborhood of $500-$1900 from eBay (seriously), but, well...I don't want it that badly.

HM.jpg

One of my great Disney merchandising regrets is not getting a bag in the WDW 40th anniversary pattern. I did order the bag pictured below, and while I LOVE LOVE LOVED the pattern, the actual style of the bag just did not work for me. And by the time I figured that out (long enough that I was outside the return window and ended up selling the bag on eBay), the rest of the bags were sold out.

wdw40.jpg

ANYWAY...none of the patterns that have come out since Marathon Weekend in 2013 have particularly thrilled me. But back in January the Disney Parks Blog posted a preview of a new Dooney & Bourke print called Mickey and Minnie Downtown.

pattern.jpg

GAHHHH. LOVE. Great job Disney, you've pulled me back in again! Is that not the cutest print ever?

So yeah, that post in January, then nothing...until I got this morning's Disney Store email. It's IN!

I read the email in the locker room after CLX, so I tried to do everything on my phone...in a locker room...with terrible reception. Blech! There were actually 2 colors available - the above color and one that was red and grey - and 4 styles of bags (crossbody, letter carrier, satchel and large shopper - in order from least to most expensive). My options were narrowed pretty quickly - I already have a letter carrier and a tote, so no sense in buying another of the exact same bag in a different pattern. I liked the satchel but I've been thinking that if/when a Dooney pattern is released for Marathon Weekend 2015, I'd get it in the satchel. That left the crossbody, which only came in red.

I definitely got caught up in the moment and just ordered the thing (which took a long time...again, crappy locker room reception). Disney was also running a promotion where with any Dooney purchase, one could also get the cosmetic bag for $25.

pouch.jpg

Do I need a cosmetic bag? Of course not. Did that stop me from adding it to my order? Of course not. :upsidedow

So the order finally went through and I went on with my morning...but then I got to my desk (somewhat late thanks to all of the ordering madness) and took a closer look at what I'd just ordered and started to have second thoughts. For one thing, I don't like the red/grey pattern as much as I like it in pink/green. But the bigger issue was the actual size of the bag. I've been using my marathon letter carrier over the past few months, and it's pretty small. So small that I couldn't use my regular wallet with it. I took a look at the crossbody specs and found that it's is even smaller than the letter carrier! So there was a good chance I'd just ordered a not-so-useful bag that would be a giant pain to carry, if I carried it at all. Arg!

I hopped back onto the website...bags were still available in the new pattern. I started looking at the satchel again...reviews were good on other satchels, and I thought back to last year's Marathon Weekend Dooney pattern...which I didn't love.

newmarathon.jpg

So what if I don't love the 2015 pattern? If there's a pattern out now that I love, shouldn't I grab it? I know from past experience that Dooneys will pop up and disappear from the website on a regular basis, so after waiting for months for this pattern to come out...why pass it up?

You can see where this is going...I placed a brand new order for a pink satchel!

pink.jpg

It's more expensive than what I originally ordered, but I definitely think I will like and use it more. I was able to call and cancel my original order, and I used promo codes for free shipping and the Disney Visa discount (10% off). So that lessened the blow a little bit.

Woohoo for a new bag that I definitely don't need! And you're welcome, everyone...because now that I've bought THIS satchel after being resolved to wait for the Marathon Weekend one, I'm sure 2015’s pattern will be awesome and I'll *have to* buy that one too.

Sidenote: I just realized I used 8 of my allotted 25 images per post up on Dooneys in my running thread. Shows where my priorities are!

Thursday, June 26: 45-minute tempo run (4.05 miles completed)

Last long tempo run before the race! Didn't feel super long today, but it was HOT HOT HOT in the cardio room. Drenched in sweat by the end!

**WW UPDATE**

Down 0.4 pounds this morning! I finally made the app happy...:rolleyes2

photo.PNG

I am happy with the loss but I think I could have done a wee bit better. I was pretty hungry this week, so I feel like I was snacking a lot - there's been a bake sale going on at work as part of a fundraiser for cancer research, and the goodies are right by my desk. That's been dangerous. And delicious.

Still...a loss is a loss, and I will take it!

Cruise Update: I've been thinking about what we have planned for this cruise and why we actually booked it in the first place. The main two reasons were for our anniversary (which was in May) and for some relaxation. We've got 3 upcharge meals booked (Palo for brunch and dinner, and Remy for dinner), so I would say those meals and the trip as a whole take care of anniversary stuff. :) But in thinking about the rest of the cruise, I wondered if we were losing the relaxation portion...specifically by adding the chocolate tour in Nassau. After talking about it with Will last night, we decided to cancel it exactly 1 week after making the reservation. That didn't last long!

Honestly, I don't think either of us are disappointed. I booked it mainly because Will mentioned possibly wanting to get off the ship in Nassau, and I just figured, "well, if we’re disembarking that day, may as well do something!" But when I asked Will about it yesterday, he made it seem like he's less sure he'll actually want to disembark that day. And one thing that bugged me from the beginning was the timing of the tour - 10:45AM until 1:45PM. It would really break up the day and I was afraid we wouldn't have a chance to really utilize those Rainforest Spa passes we bought - and we are really looking forward to that. Plus, that tour would have cost $59 for each of us. That's, like, 4 extra Mixology classes we could do! (NOTE: We will NOT be doing 4 Mixology classes :faint:).

So the chocolate is out. No worries...I know from firsthand experience that we'll still eat ourselves silly on the ship.

Friday, June 27: Run #3 (6-mile out-and-back)
Weather: 77 degrees and sunny

:faint: Worst run ever!

Wait, didn't I say that last week? Well, it applies this week, too.

Splits:

The first two miles were fine...

Mile 1: 10:48
Mile 2: 10:03

At the beginning of mile 3 I took a 1-minute walk break, and things went downhill from there. My legs felt heavy and sore, and it was hot out. Because it was sunny out I was wearing a visor, which I normally don't do…now I remember why. My head was SO hot! I went from feeling okay to feeling like I was in survival mode very quickly. I needed multiple walk breaks to make it through, and despite drinking plenty of water I was thirsty almost the entire time. And nauseous. Bleh!

Mile 3: 11:03
Mile 4: 10:54
Mile 5: 11:31
Mile 6: 11:49

Total time for 6 miles: 1:06:09, 11:01/mile pace

While the temperature and sun were definitely factors, I started wondering if I need to re-think my weekly schedule. I've been following my training plan closely, but shuffling the days around, so maybe I need to just follow the plan as written. Specifically the plan calls for running Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, no running Friday, then the long run Saturday. Maybe that would help? I think I'll start to try doing that. Also, I need to get up earlier to get these runs done during cooler parts of the day. Seriously.

I got back from the run, showered, had a smoothie, and passed out for almost 2 hours before dinner! The sun really beat the crap out of me.

Random aside - remember how I mentioned above that my workplace is doing a big fundraiser to support cancer research? As part of the fundraising there was a 50/50 raffle (where half the pot goes toward the cause, and the other half goes to a winner). Guess who won the pot? Yep...ME! First time I've won something since being chosen as the winner of a free pair of tickets to the ice capades back when I was a wee lass (a Disney on Ice show, incidentally enough). As a result...

Shopping Updates #4-7: Etsy is a dangerous place, especially for a Disney fan. I've been reading through the Homemade Fish Extender thread in the cruise section of these boards (people are so talented!) and actually found a few of the gifts people made for sale on Etsy. I ended up purchasing a Castaway Club lanyard key fob, a Disney Cruise Line vinyl sticker for my car, and a Mickey Mouse camera strap. I'll post photos when they come in...and even with this little shopping spree I still have some 50/50 money left over. Yay!

Saturday, June 28: Run #4 (7-mile out-and-back)
Weather: 81 degrees and sunny

So after yesterday's disaster of a run, I make a couple of changes:
1. Started earlier (10AM instead of noon)
2. Ditched the visor
3. Programmed intervals into my Garmin (run 4 minutes/walk 1 minute)

All 3 of those things helped but I think the intervals made the biggest difference. The bad thing about intervals with the Garmin is that the watch doesn't spit out mile splits, which is what I use to determine when to drink and take fuel. So this time I drank water every 20 minutes or so and had 4 Gu chomps at the 40-45 minute mark.

Total time for 7 miles: 1:15:50, 10:49/mile pace

So not only did I finish today's run NOT feeling like death (like yesterday)...I also ran 12 seconds per mile faster. Needless to say, I heart intervals. :worship:

Shopping Update #8: I purchased my mom's birthday gift today (her birthday is July 13). I'm hoping she'll find it useful for a trip we are planning to take together next year (more on that later!)

Sunday, June 29: Rest Day

YAY REST DAY! Boy did I feel like I needed it.

Mostly I just grocery shopping and hung out with the husband and dog (who we are pretty sure has an ear infection...taking him to the vet tomorrow!).

Also, today was packet pick-up! Not a lot to report here, except that the race shirt is nice and they gave me the correct size. Woohoo! Also...

Shopping Update #9: Packet pick-up was at my local running store, so while I was there I decided to pick up a few things - some Honey Stinger Waffles (strawberry flavor?! Hmm...), some salted caramel Gu, and 2 new pairs of socks (Balega Hidden Dry). I also ordered 3 pairs of shoes - one for Will and 2 for me (my trusty Brooks Adrenalines - one pink pair and one blue pair). When those shoes come in I should be set for the rest of the year - I still have one unopened pair at home so that pair and these other two pairs (which should come in by the end of this week) should get me through Marathon Weekend.

Shopping Update #10: The last update in the Week of Shopping :faint: (it's been an expensive week!) - I went on Shutterfly and ordered some personalized luggage tags for my and Will's suitcases in preparation for the cruise. We have some pretty old Disney tags (those plastic ones with the holograms) and they are starting to crack, so it was time. Hooray for 20% off and free shipping! Hmm, would have been a good idea to get some for my mom too...oh well.

Love, love, LOVE that Dooney bag you got. I'm really thinking of splurging on one, but just haven't found the right one yet. That print is absolutely adorable though and I like it in the pink I think a bit better than the red. The shape of the bag is awesome too.

:rotfl2: on canceling your chocolate tour one week later. That sounds exactly like something I would do. I think it's a smart move. You will have an awesome and relaxing day on the boat instead.

Sounds like the training continues to go well for you. You are a workout maniac!! And great job on the continued weight loss. You are doing fantastic. Sounds like the intervals on your last run worked really well for you. Glad you were able to finish out the week on a good one.

GAHHH I LOVE IT TOO. And I just looked on the Disney Store website - it shipped and is due to be delivered TODAY! :hyper: (I never got an email that it shipped, but whatever!)

Fair warning - Disney Dooneys, like Disney races, are addicting! :goodvibes

:rotfl: Yeah, it was definitely an impulse thing when I first signed up. We both feel really good about the change. I am picturing that day as a late breakfast (after a treadmill run...of course), lounging in the Rainforest Room, a few spins on the Aquaduck, maybe some mixology...:thumbsup2 The chocolate tour would have eaten up (ha!) a good chunk of the afternoon. Just wasn't the right thing for us. :confused3

I think that while things have been going well overall, I've been having some ups and downs...times where I feel like I could possibly be over-training (the sore/heavy legs feelings during Friday's run), and then I'm totally fine the next day (Saturday's run). It's been weird. :confused3 Overall I am definitely happy with where I am, especially after being injured at the beginning of the year. :)

I have to say, I liked the intervals a lot more than I expected to. That may be what gets me through the long runs over the summer. :faint:

Thanks for the encouragement, as usual!! :goodvibes

Oh my GOSH!!! I have been wanting the Mickey Downtown Dooney ever since they previewed it on the Parks blog. I even had the pattern as the wallpaper on my phone for a couple months! I love the one you chose! You'll have to share pics when it arrives! I'm so tempted to pick one up also, but I can't decide between the satchel and the mailbag. Looks like the large shopper tote is already sold out! Wow! With the mailbag, ordering online, I worry about not being able to choose the print placement. :P Is that silly? I'd like to wait till Jan. to choose one in person, but I worry they will sell out before then. What do you think?

I also also wonder about the Marathon Dooney! If it's awesome, like you one you have from two years ago, I will def. want one! But I wasn't a big fan of the print this year, just not my style. I half hope it's not my style, so that I'm not tempted to buy it. LOL!

I also have my eye on the Bouncing Bouquet Vera Hipster! Soooo cute, and I already have the coordinating wristlet from the regular Vera line! So many disney bags, so little time...and money! ;)

Shopping update #1: After many recommendations to check out the Athleta website from my cousin (the one who just got married - she does Crossfit 5-6 times per week and is a coach, so she knows her athletic wear!) I ordered a swimsuit top/bottom) from the site that came last week.

You'll love that swimsuit. I bought my first of that style several years ago and it still fits and looks like new. And I love that they do bra sizes--I can actually wear it in the water without being afraid something will pop out

One tip if you buy their clothes (especially bottoms)--their clothes are designed for women with VERY athletic builds. I'm on the curvier side (clothes are usually tighter in the hips than the waist), but I'm not that curvy. I've had to go up 3 sizes in some Athleta pants (the more everyday styles with less stretch) for them to fit over my hips--and, of course, the waist was way too big. I have a pair of their running shorts which fit well, but I still had to go up a size (the waist has a drawstring for adjusting so at least that wasn't an issue). So check the size charts carefully and round up if you're between sizes.

But they are super serious about the return-any-time thing. I returned a sports bra that felt fine in the dressing room but was awful once I actually tried to run in it. No questions asked. I didn't even have the receipt, they just looked it up with my credit card. You can't beat that.

I love the wallpaper idea! Totally stealing it from you! :goodvibes

Here she is!

And the cosmetic case:
image.jpeg

I will say...both items are smaller than I expected. But the bag is, I think, actually a perfect size for me. It seems smaller than the tote I already had but obviously bigger than the letter carrier. Best part is that it has more pockets than the tote, which was my main issue with it (although totes by nature aren't supposed to have pockets I guess)...I'm a little concerned because I've had some threads pulling in the inside of the bag so I'm going to make sure to register it tonight in case something happens. But I love it!

The cosmetic case is really too small for me to keep my make-up in (which probably says something about the amount of make-up I use...:scratchin) but I keep other stuff in it and it fits in the bag well.

So far so good!
I'm so tempted to pick one up also, but I can't decide between the satchel and the mailbag. Looks like the large shopper tote is already sold out! Wow! No, I don't think it's silly! These bags aren't cheap, you should be totally happy with whatever you choose.

With the satchel, since it's bigger, I think there's a better chance of getting good placement (which I feel like I did - lots of Mickeys/Minnies on it, the castle is shown nicely, etc.). The mailbag definitely seems riskier in that regard. The pattern has a lot going on so it'll probably still look good but you just never know...!

Looking online though I see that my bag is sold out! (They still have the same style in the grey/red color though.) Maybe just think about it a bit and whenever it comes back you may be ready to pull the trigger.
I also also wonder about the Marathon Dooney! If it's awesome, like you one you have from two years ago, I will def. want one! But I wasn't a big fan of the print this year, just not my style. I half hope it's not my style, so that I'm not tempted to buy it. LOL!
Yeah, personally I thought last year's print looked...I don't know, juvenile, in a way? Where the other D&B prints I have liked have looked more charming and whimsical. :confused3 We'll see what they come up with. I looked at the PHM thread to see when people started talking about ordering bags for that weekend and it wasn't until about a month before race weekend, so we may be waiting for awhile!
I also have my eye on the Bouncing Bouquet Vera Hipster! Soooo cute, and I already have the coordinating wristlet from the regular Vera line! So many disney bags, so little time...and money! ;)
Oh wow, how did I not see that one?! Super cute!!

So many Disney bags, so little time and money...so true!!

Awesome, I'm glad to hear a good review. When I was reading through reviews and people were saying they could play volleyball in the suit, that's what sold me. The VS ones I had for the last cruise just weren't cutting it in the support area...

 I'm glad you said this, I had no idea! It sort of makes sense though...my cousin who loves Athleta has a VERY athletic build - small hips, broad shoulders, very much like a swimmer. I'm like you - curvier. So I'd probably have to go up a few sizes as well.
But they are super serious about the return-any-time thing. I returned a sports bra that felt fine in the dressing room but was awful once I actually tried to run in it. No questions asked. I didn't even have the receipt, they just looked it up with my credit card. You can't beat that.
That is so awesome. I've had that issue you describe where it's find in the locker room and not on the run - I hate being stuck with stuff afterward when it doesn't work. I'll definitely have to check Athleta when I want to get some new workout clothes. ::yes::

Thanks again for the info!! :)

Oh, I love that new Disney Dooney! I've been good lately not looking at purses on purpose but you may have just made me want one again.

Glad the app finally didn't yell at you! Its about time!

The bag is adorable!!

My sis just bought a Dooney that is that same style bag and I thought it was a perfect size too.
