In Training: Marathon Weekend 2015 (Dopey Challenge)! **COMPLETE**

Great job on the weight loss for your first week! :cool1:

I'm happy to hear that Will wants to train to run another 5K with you too. I love running with my husband.

And the 5K measurement for the race sounds very frustrating. Still great time regardless, but I understand feeling like you aren't sure what your new PR really is given the fact that the course seemed short.

This is so weird when this happens, isn't it? I had this happen once although I am not sure if it was a running or walking event. The race was taking place on my usual route. It was so funny because I had race officials tell the crowd to cheer me on and as I passed their finish line they did.
It was surprising! I had that happen another time when the 3-day (the breast cancer walking event) was going on, except this time I was running AND wearing a pink shirt. I got some odd looks that day.

Too funny that everyone cheered you on! :rotfl2:
That sounds like fun! Plus look at your improvement from 2012 to 2013! Don't you love a PR??
Heck yeah I do!!
That is simply just rude! Faster? How much faster do you need to be? Seems like you are pretty speedy. And if he/she could go faster then they should have rather than talk about it. I know there are good running clubs out there. It is just a shame that there are occasionally some like the one you have near you. Sadly, I think I am no more a fan of my local one than you are of yours.
I think people just don't think sometimes. :confused3 But yeah, that's not the first time I've gotten the impression that there are people in the club that I may not want to be around...you're right though, the "bad eggs" are very few and far between in the running community! :goodvibes
As always, I am super impressed that you get in strength training. My job is pretty physically demanding... and often my muscles are sore from it. I can't even imagine adding strength training to my routine so I am in awe of you.
Ah, see...my job is not physically demanding at all. Just sit at a desk all day in front of my computer. Pretty much exactly like this guy all day: :surfweb: I bet your job helps you with your running. :thumbsup2
Hope it works for you! It is great to just commit to something. I am wondering if I shouldn't commit to at least eating better. My overall size and weight arent so much the problem... but having an elderly gentlemen smile and ask if I was expecting was a bit frustrating.
UGH, that's terrible! I've gotten that question before too...:sad2: And I was NOT expecting, just apparently wearing a really unflattering dress.
Temperatures really can affect pace. 90 degrees and humid is really tough! Maybe though you could set out to PR the race, but not the distance?
I think that's what I'm going to have to do. If I go in there expecting to beat the time from November I think I'll just be setting myself up for disappointment.
LOVE the pictures!!!
:goodvibes I want to go baaaack!
Great plan!!!
:thumbsup2 Higdon...he's the man!
I bet you have answered my question before... but on your speed runs. What do you do in between your 400 repeats? I did my first ever speed run last weekend. 4x 800 with 3 minute walks between. It is from the RD plan... but I have no idea of this is standard or not.
In between the speed intervals I walk/jog another 400 to recover. The 3-minute walks sound pretty similar so I'm sure that's fine! :thumbsup2
Great job!
THANKS! :) :thumbsup2
Do you think it was because they stepped up miles too fast? Like maybe they were not consistent with their training and then realized they had to get in the miles? I bet that has a lot to do with it. Also I think sometime it is hard for people to "know" their bodies. It is so hard to be able to tell what is just a normal use pain and an injury pain. I am sure some push too hard through something thinking it might not be an injury... and then I think the opposite can happen too where some do not push through something that hurts thinking it must be an injury when it is just a use issue. Thing is I can't fault any one either of those. I know I am probably guilty of both. It all comes down to how well we know and listen to our bodies.
In my not-at-all-expert opinion...yeah, I think that has to do with it. Going from zero to marathon in a really short amount of time just doesn't seem like a great idea to me. But I know other people do it and they are fine! Different for everyone, I guess. :confused3
That is awesome!!!
Woohoo!!! :cool1:
At least you have something to look forward to taking care of once you are there. The mixology sounds like a fun thing to do!
I did Mixology with my friends in September and it was really fun! I liked learning how to make the drinks...it was $15 for 5 drinks. Not too shabby! They had non-alcoholic options too, which I thought was great.
I don't blame you for wanting the water to be there when you arrive. Sometimes it is ok to pay for a convenience.
I thought so too. If we had a car and could pick the stuff up ourselves I'm sure we would have done that instead, but this is just SO much easier.
Seriously...unlimited POG juice!! :cloud9:
Having never done a spa treatment, I am anxious to read about your review. Sounds like it will be relaxing!
I hope it is!! I've heard great things about it. :)
fun surprise! AND so appropriate for an anniversary celebration!
I thought so too! Hopefully it will be deliciously tasty.
Hopefully they are in by now!
Funny story - I read your post and was all set to write back that they weren't...but then I checked the mail, and...

FINALLY!!!
photo.JPG

(yep, I was so excited I had to celebrate by taking a lame selfie!)

I am so glad they are here and I can stop complaining about it!!! :goodvibes
2.6 lbs loss is great! Thats about what it is for this month for me. Great kickstart.
:goodvibes I'm sure it was so good just because my body was shocked back into weight loss mode, but I am very happy with it! Great job on your loss, too!
As far as your cruise, enjoy the spa! I love the rainforest room! It will be here before you know it!
Oh, awesome...I'm glad to hear you liked it. :goodvibes Thanks!!
Great job on the weight loss for your first week!
Thanks!! :)
I'm happy to hear that Will wants to train to run another 5K with you too. I love running with my husband.
Me too! I wish the WDW 10K was on a Saturday...that would have been perfect. I think he would be up for that distance but maybe not a half. Maybe I can talk him into the Enchanted 10K during Princess Half Weekend someday! :rotfl:

We don't run together a lot though...his legs are longer than mine so it doesn't work out perfectly. That's great that you get to run with Chris so much.
And the 5K measurement for the race sounds very frustrating. Still great time regardless, but I understand feeling like you aren't sure what your new PR really is given the fact that the course seemed short.
It was! I don't really know what to do about that PR...:confused3 Not that it REALLY matters, but...it does to me. How's the hamstring?

Our 180-day mark for the Wine & Dine Half Marathon/Jingle Jungle 5K trip was almost 2 weeks ago. This trip is going to be me, my 3 friends that I traveled to WDW with for the Princess Half Marathon Weekend (the 4 of us are signed up for the half...two of us are also doing the Jingle Jungle 5K), plus 2 more of our friends that were on the cruise with us in September (one of them is signed up for the 5K)! Such a cool group of ladies. I'm soooo excited!

Girls trips are so fun! Sounds like you have a great group!

We're all in firm agreement that we need to take advantage of Food & Wine Festival as much as possible, and in February we were all cool with eating at a decent number of counter service places. As a result, there's been almost zero ADR talk leading up to this trip. So weird for me, as ADRs are a huge part of the Disney trips I take with Will!

I am conflicted about this myself. I know I want some ADRS...even made a ton. But food and wine.... I don't want to be too full. KWIM?

I did take it upon myself to make one ADR. It's for all 6 of us at Via Napoli the day of the half marathon - early dinner time at 4:30PM.

IMG_0334.jpg

This is my traditional pre-runDisney-race meal...it's something I've eaten 4-5 times now that has never made me sick, so I'm sticking with what works. Plus, it's delicious and the servers are always really good as re-filling water glasses (very important as I know the race will be HUMID...so I'll be chugging the H20!). And since no one else seemed to have any strong opinions about where to eat before the race, I decided to be bossy and book the ADR (with their permission, of course).

Of course! You have to have this as a prerace meal!!! Even with food and wine you can't pass that up!

Then on Monday, Southwest opened their flight schedule up through January 4...I thought about waiting to see if the prices would drop a bit, but in the end decided to just bite the bullet. There were 2 flights that jumped out at me immediately, and I didn't want to lose them...so I booked! They are non-stop and at good times - arriving early the first day and leaving late the last day.

:woohoo:
The prices were decent but not amazing...about $316 round-trip ($158 for each flight). Since it's Southwest there are no baggage fees. :thumbsup2 I'll keep watching to see if the prices drop, but lately somewhere around $300 has been about the best I can do for Disney. However I have seen flights from this airport to Orlando for as low as $99 one-way (!!) so if I see that, I'm definitely going to cancel and re-book for a credit - which would probably go toward my Marathon Weekend flights.

I long for the cheaper air fare travel days. Still, $316 seems to be about going rate so better to book and have it taken care of.
We fly from one of two airports - one is about 20 minutes from our house and the other is more like an hour and 10 minutes. Southwest does not fly direct to MCO from the closer airport (of course, that would be too easy :headache:), so I'll be doing a bit of driving, but my total travel time will still be less since there is no layover, and that airport is smaller, easy to navigate, and has decently cheap parking. I may grab a hotel room the night before my flight so I don't have to leave home at 4AM...we'll see. Part of me doesn't want to spend the money, but since I still have my AP, we won't be eating many Table Service meals, and my room in Disney will be VERY cheap (I'm talking a CM rate at a moderate resort split between 4 of us...) I may just pay for a room near the airport so I don't have to wake up to make the drive at 3AM or whatever.

I know if my dh was with me and we were looking at doing this.. he would choose to stay over night. I think if travel days is long... that extra hour of sleep can be very helpful!

20 MPW seems pretty good to me too! I'm a little scared for Dopey training... :rotfl:

:rotfl2: I would be too!!! That is some crazy mileage!!!

I know! I wanted to turn around, run after her and just shout, "LET'S BE DISNEY FRIENDS!!!" But I restrained myself!

:lmao::lmao:

I am, thank you. It took about a week for me to feel normal again. :confused3 Still not sure what brought that on! I made the same dinner again 2 nights ago and felt just fine. Must have been a fluke.

Sometimes I wonder if we don't get little bugs that our body mostly fights off.

Ugh, isn't that the worst?! :headache: Hope you're feeling better, too.

Yes, thank you. I figure it was one of those mini bugs. ;)

I'm not sure if I have yet? It's Fleet Feet - they are a chain around us, not sure if they are national. My normal place is a local store so I really just need to stick to getting my stuff from them. In 5 years they forgot to call me once about something (if I remember correctly it was gels, so not something as expensive as Oakley sunglasses, and I hadn't paid for the gels yet so I wasn't as angry as I am now ), but other than that they have always been great. Gotta stick to the local store!!!!!

Yup... that would be the chain I am referring to. I wont go to them any more.

Exactly. The lack of communication is astounding to me...and they, of course, charged my credit card for the purchase right away. :rolleyes2 This morning at the gym I saw a flier advertising another running shoe/sunglasses fitting put on by this store here next week...so the same sort of deal where I bought my sunglasses. I just want to be like "DON'T BUY FROM THEM, THEY ARE TERRIBLE!!!"

I would feel like standing by the flyer and telling each person I could.

I checked the Oakley's website and it still says the sunglasses are due to ship tomorrow, so I'll start bugging them again next week.

Well, I know you have them now... but I am sorry it took so very long.
I've done one of those before...we had tags on our bibs (not time chip tags, paper tags) that we had to rip off and give to a race official as we were crossing the finish line...then he put them on a giant paperclip in the order they were given to him. :confused3 Anyone I feel like if you pay to do a race they should at least have chip timing.

I agree! the chip is an important feature to me!

Glad the coffee s helping! :thumbsup2 It's definitely a pre-run must for me...sometimes I can get away without it for shorter runs, but not longer ones.
It really has made for some much more pleasant runs!!!

:yay: Even if the start of the race was hard I was very happy with the end result!!

You should be! You did awesome!!
I loved seeing my mom and the girls at the finish line. I give the girls credit...I would not have wanted to get up at 6AM at their age, but they seemed to enjoy it!
Kids are resilient and crazy. :rotfl: I can see where just getting up that early might be fun if they don't normally do it.

LOL at the finish of your 8K! The first time I ran the Cleveland half marathon I was coming to the finish line just as the winning marathon runner was also finishing...and he came from behind and sped up to pass me! :faint: And we all started at the same time...that was pretty funny.

Those runners are just way too fast!

I may have laughed a little too hard at this! Especially the eBay part. Too funny!

:rotfl2: But it is true! I seriously can not imagine putting myself through the cost and training and ultimately body ache for something I didn't get some enjoyment from. If the only enjoyment one gets from a race is the fact they can meet characters and get a medal... I just think there are easier routes to go. Now, do I think that those can be the PRIMARY reasons do enjoy a Disney race? Absolutely. I just kinda feel like the running part should be in the mix of the why's. :goodvibes

She's just dropping truth bombs! :rotfl:
:rotfl2:

14.75 miles completed
14.75 miles completed in 5-miler Training
270.55 miles completed in 2014 so far

Awesome!!!

I used our "gym" today and did my first workout in the Lean circuit. It was okay...I didn't like it as much as some of the other CLX workouts that I have done. My quads are a little sore from the 10K, which I wasn’t expecting because they felt fine yesterday. But I guess once I went to bed and my legs didn't move all night the pain began to set in. It's not, like, agonizing or anything...stairs and any kind of bending down are tough. As a result, I probably didn't do as good of a job at this workout as I could have, but I was just happy to get back to it. This workout also confirmed that I have weirdly weak triceps...I sort of knew that already, but geez!

Sometimes I think that I feel stiffer in the morning or after I have spent an extended time on dis :rolleyes1 so I think there is something to that not moving and then having the pain set in. Well, now that I think about it.. duh... the lactic acid set in right? That is why they say to keep walking after a race.

Also did Ab Ripper X - 20 reps of each exercise. That is a great workout.

I really need to add an ab work out. (after being asked if I was pregnant) Do you feel this is easy enough to start? Is it a video? Just a training program? :scratchin maybe I should google it.

Today's my first day back on Weight Watchers, and since I'm home on PTO I spent the morning getting that set up. I'm signed up for an online session through work, which means I need to log in weekly for 3 months. Hopefully this will work out better for me than what I was doing before - an 18-week session with a weekly meeting. For whatever reason, I grew to really, really dislike the meetings. :confused3 I have the app downloaded to my phone and am going to try to use that to track things, which I haven't done before. With my cousin's wedding and the cruise coming up, I'm feeling motivated...hopefully it'll stick! And hey, it would probably make me a faster runner if I dropped a few pounds, too. Hmm…

Congrats to you on starting! A commitment to yourself is the BEST commitment to make.

Also, I finally got a call from the store that I ordered the sunglasses from. They called...to tell me...that the sunglasses aren't in yet. Um, okay thanks? Apparently they are expected to come in this week. Whatever. Honestly, I think so little of this store right now that I'm impressed they called me at all, even if it was with a non-update. The bar has just been set that low.

I am so sorry that this place has been so lacking in their service that the bar is set that low. :sad2:

And lastly, I had an impulsive moment and signed up for a 5K being held in my town this weekend! It cost $20...I get a t-shirt and hopefully a new PR out of the deal (my current 5K PR is 28:03, 9:03/mile pace...and it’s over 2 years old at this point. Really not sure if I can beat it!). I might regret signing up for this 5K when I have to wake up at 7AM on Saturday, but at least it's close to home (the starting line is less than 2 miles from my house).

I know this is done already, but let me just say that sometimes a spur of the moment race is so fun to do. I think it tests us and pushes us a tad outside our comfort zone even if it is only 2 miles away from home. :goodvibes

From our recent AKL stay over Christmas/New Years:
WDWHolidayEdit-148.jpg

Beautiful picture. I hope to get back to WDW some day during the holidays. I love fall there... but Christmas time is amazing too.

Still had a bit of quad soreness, too...but the run was a healing run. My quads feel better and I feel more awake. Woohoo! Hamstrings are a little sore, which I don't remember from yesterday, so I'm wondering if that's from CLX. It would be a good thing because that means I did the workouts correctly!

So glad to hear someone else say that a run was "healing' I am afraid I come across like a crazy person when I suggest that a run might make me feel better when I am feeling a tad sore or ill.

I stuck with running 5 minutes/walking 1 minute on the treadmill and finished the run in 32:48 (10:56/mile pace). Once I was running for a few minutes, long enough to wake up a bit and work out some of the soreness, it felt good, but it was SO hot in the cardio room today. Good preparation for my summer race, I guess. I didn't get up early enough to do any abs stuff, unfortunately.

I think that running in a hot cardio room is HARD. You did a great job there!!!

Will has decided that he wants to get back into running (he trained for last year's Mickey’s Jingle Jungle 5K and we ran it together ) so I think we’re going to search online for a late summer/early fall 5K that he can make his goal race. During the Jingle Jungle 5K when we were stopping for character photos (because that’s just what I do during Disney races :teeth:) he mentioned wanting to someday run a non-Disney race to see how well he can really do - he's a pretty competitive person so I think competing against himself to improve times and whatnot would really appeal to him. Plus, I think he's just been feeling a little sluggish lately and really wants to get back into exercising. His teaching/coaching schedule makes it tough but now that tennis is over (YAY!!!) he doesn't work 14-hour days anymore, so hopefully we can figure something out!

That is awesome that he wants to get back into it!!!
I didn't wake up early enough to do Ab Ripper X (going to bed waaayyy too late = sleeping in waaayyy too late...I need to get a handle on that), so I made sure to text my husband early and ask him to remind me to do it as soon as I got home. And we did it together! I did 20 reps per move...it was Will's first time doing the workout in a loooong time and he kept up pretty well! It's definitely something you just have to build yourself up to doing. I still feel like I'll never make it to the full 25 reps.

First, I think this time of year is rough. longer days make you want to stay up later.

Second, that is awesome that you did that together!!

Thursday, May 22: Run #2 (6x400 @ 5K pace...3.25 miles completed)
Speedwork Thursday! This one went pretty well - challenging but I felt strong. It took me a little over 38 minutes to complete the workout (3.25 miles total). Again, it was BOILING in the cardio room! I need to make sure to get a treadmill closer to a fan next time.

I am not sure how you get anything done in the cardio room with it so hot! AND to do speed work :faint:

In other news, I enjoyed this year's Cleveland 10K so much that I signed up for next year's this morning - only $30 for the early bird fee! It's not the earliest I've ever signed up for a race, but it's pretty close.

I need to pay closer attention to early bird registration. That is a heck of a deal!!

I also signed up for that 4th of July 5-miler I've been planning to do...they finally opened registration. It's been a little frustrating...first of all, the price went up $5 from last year, so that's not cool. Not shocking, but still. Then once registration went through I got an email with "tickets" attached and I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with these...tickets. Also, I was very much looking forward to selecting the correct-sized race shirt. The first year I did this race it was unisex sizing - I didn't know that and ordered a medium, which is comically large on me. So last year I wised up and ordered a small...without knowing that they had decided to do gender-specific shirts. It fits, but is not entirely flattering just yet. This year I thought I finally had it figured out - a women's-sized medium! :yay: Well, I registered, and the options were XS, S, M, L, XL and the question indicated that these are gender-specific...but there was no option to actually indicate that I am, in fact, a lady. I've come across guys named Shannon before so considering my history with shirts for this race, I wanted to email someone to make sure I get the correct size. The email indicated on the registration page doesn't work and I'm having trouble contacting anyone. I've been frustrated with this group in the past (which I mentioned a bit here) so this may be my last race with them. Between this and the continuing sunglasses saga, I don't understand why it's so hard to get answers from people. Just do your job!!!!!!!

:headache: That is frustrating. I hate getting a shirt in the wrong size... but if they can't get you answers that just makes it worse! I mean... I am only to blame if I order a medium womens shirt and it turns out to small or big...but if they can't clarify that it is a mens or womens... :sad2:

Also, today was weigh-in day! I started WW again on Monday (I have to call it WW, because I'll be honest...I think the name "Weight Watchers" is a little stupid. Great program, but just don't like the name) and for whatever reason I just like having the weigh-in day on Thursdays. I think I'm just used to it from the meetings I went to at work.So this morning I popped out of bed and got right on the scale at home (the same one I used for my initial weigh-in on Monday, when I also weighed myself right after I woke up) - down 2.6 pounds! I'm certainly not expecting consistent results like that - I'm sure part of the reason I had a really good result is because I just started back up again - but I'll take it.

That is awesome!! You should totally take it as a win!

I'm still not sure how much I'll talk about it here on a consistent basis. Growing up I constantly heard tons of talk from quite a few family members about how they always needed to lose weight and I don't want it to be like that in my house (or in my thread!). But I have to say that WW has been going well so far. It doesn't feel like I've been making any drastic changes...it's been small things so far like changing back to the sugar-free syrup at Starbucks and still cooking the same kind of dinners I'd normally make, but being a little more careful with the portions. My breakfasts and lunches are pretty much the same. Although I guess I have been exercising a little more self-control when it comes to snacks and things. Of course I think it's been easier so far because I haven't done it over a weekend yet...this weekend we have a couple of dinners out planned, so that might be a challenge.

You want my unsolicited opinion? You should feel like it is okay to share your wins. It isn't like you are saying "I know people are telling me I look pregnant but I choose to not do anything about it" ;) You have the right to say "I feel like I want to lose a bit of weight and here is how it is going for me" You should feel excited and proud of each win... 1 pound or 100! It is you taking steps to better yourself in the way YOU feel you want to.

I’m still not sure what my ultimate "goal" is with WW. I asked my doctor (who has has been my PCP for a few years now and has never, ever told me to lose weight) if she had an opinion and she did give me a number to shoot for, so I might just try to get to that and then see what happens. That number is 13 pounds from where I am now... I actually did get down to that number very, very briefly a little over two years ago, but there was always a voice in the back of my head saying, "you know you won't stay here." Hopefully that will change this time around.

That is an awesome goal! Not to far off either!

Calories don't count in WDW though...
WnDEdit-318.jpg

YUM! is that bread pudding from ohana?

Not gonna lie...this wasn't a super run for me.

Splits:
Mile 1: 10:30
Mile 2: 10:03
Mile 3: 11:03
Mile 4: 10:13
Mile 5: 11:12

Total time: 53:03 for 5 miles, 10:36/mile pace

Well, your overall pace isn't bad and your distance is decent too! Maybe not your best? But you still got it done so that is a win!!! :thumbsup2

And I'm fine with the overall time and pace, but it's another example of not pacing myself very well (positive splits). I had to take a decent number of walk breaks at the end. I think a big issue was that I didn't eat enough beforehand - we went to a Farmer's Market last weekend and got some stuff from an Amish family selling baked goods (their stuff is ALWAYS amazing!). So I had a thick slice of whole wheat bread with rhubarb jam - super delicious but I just don't think it was enough to fuel me through 5 miles. Partway through I was also wondering if I was setting myself up for a not-so-great race the next day...hmm...

I find it interesting that some people (myself included) really have to pay close attention to what they take in pre run. However... what you did it... sounds super yummy!!!! Rhubarb jam? YUMMMMMM

Past races that have started/ended at the high school have allowed us to use the high school bathrooms, but that didn't seem to be the case today. I'm sure the bathrooms at the football field/track were open, but rather than check and risk losing the bathroom opportunity altogether, I used to a nearby port-a-potty that I knew was open. I had 3.5 miles on my schedule today, so I jogged 0.4 miles around the parking lot/track so I'd get to the total I needed. First time I've ever "warmed up" for a race.

I have never thought to do that? If I have more that I need to get in I always do it after the race. Maybe as a warm up would be better.
The race began at 9AM...super informal. There couldn't have been more than 500 people there. Lots of kids.

Mile 1: 8:46

I felt like I was flying out of the gate. I'd passed by mile marker 1 on the drive to the high school and had decided I'd take short walk breaks at each mile marker. I knew I wasn't going to be able to keep up this pace, or close to this pace, without them.

Mile 2: 9:23

My watch was off from the beginning, so both of my walk breaks (at MM1 and MM2) are covered in this split. This mile did not feel great to me...my legs felt heavy and the sun was blazing. I knew I'd have a headache later from the sun pounding down on me.

Mile 3: 8:39

After my walk break at MM2 I felt sooooo much better! Suddenly I just felt stronger and faster, so I was able to really turn it up for the final mile. I just kept telling myself, "beat 28 minutes...beat 28 minutes...

Sounds like a great race!!!

The race ended on the high school track, and as I approached I could see the clock...26:55 as I crossed the finish line. So I did beat 28 minutes...but as I crossed, my watch beeped to indicate that I'd reached the end of the third mile. The course was SHORT.

I was soooooo annoyed. This would have been a new PR for me...a small one, but still. A PR is a PR.

First, congrats on a PR!! I had to be regardless, right?

Second, maybe the course was not short? If it was USATF certified there will be an actual distance recorded.

Third, this is a reason I like to make sure courses are certified.

The finisher's chute was very narrow...reason being that there was no chipping at this race. A gentleman was standing at the end of the chute collecting the bottom portion of our race bibs for placement, I guess. I'd had this at one other race before...ridiculous for a company that puts on road races, in my opinion. It should have been chipped and it should have been a correctly measured course.

I agree with you! I feel like the registration costs we pay should cover a nicely promoted race! That includes chip timing and course certification!!!!
I grabbed a bottle of water and a banana and headed back to my car...unlike last week's race, I wasn't sticking around.

Before making the drive home I ran another 0.1 miles to make it to the 5K mark...27:52, 8:58/mile pace. So is this my new PR? Are the official race results (which STILL aren't posted) my new PR? ARG! Somehow this annoys me more than the short 10-miler course form last month (same company put on both races, by the way). Not sure why.

Sounds like you were very frustrated. I do think you ran an excellent race though!!!

Ah, see...my job is not physically demanding at all. Just sit at a desk all day in front of my computer. Pretty much exactly like this guy all day: I bet your job helps you with your running.

I am not sure it helps entirely. I do think it gave me a tad bit of a jump start once I did start running (just a little over 2 years ago) since I wasn't totally sedentary.

UGH, that's terrible! I've gotten that question before too...:sad2: And I was NOT expecting, just apparently wearing a really unflattering dress.

Some of the styles out can definitely look a tad maternity like. However in my case it was just my tummy. I am not stick thin... no where near... but I am fairly thin everywhere EXCEPT my stomach. I guess genetics and 4 babies all born via cesarean section have not given me the best ab muscles. (hence why I really should do something about it)

I think that's what I'm going to have to do. If I go in there expecting to beat the time from November I think I'll just be setting myself up for disappointment.

Who knows though, maybe you will PR both distance AND race.
In between the speed intervals I walk/jog another 400 to recover. The 3-minute walks sound pretty similar so I'm sure that's fine! :thumbsup2

OH! That sounds way better! I was just trying to figure out on my PTR how long my 800 meters were taking me. If I started at one point... ran twice around the track..then walked once I bet it would be far easier to gauge my time for the run portions since it would be .5 then .75 then 1.25 etc to mark on the "clock". I will do this next weekend. :thumbsup2
In my not-at-all-expert opinion...yeah, I think that has to do with it. Going from zero to marathon in a really short amount of time just doesn't seem like a great idea to me. But I know other people do it and they are fine! Different for everyone, I guess. :confused3

I think it comes back to knowing your body. I certainly couldn't go from zero to marathon in a short time. I bet that some young males who are otherwise pretty fit probably could. Everyone is different.... people just need to be in tune with what is right for them. Sometimes that requires us to make mistakes and push our boundaries...
I did Mixology with my friends in September and it was really fun! I liked learning how to make the drinks...it was $15 for 5 drinks. Not too shabby! They had non-alcoholic options too, which I thought was great.

That is a great deal! That makes it $3 a drink? WoW you can't buy a drink for that anywhere!

Seriously...unlimited POG juice!! :cloud9:

It is funny. I read about people being very excited about POG. :scratchin I think people can't get this in all parts of the country? Don't get me wrong. I like it a lot. I just can go buy it at the store so it is not any different than buying any other kind of juice.

FINALLY!!!

(yep, I was so excited I had to celebrate by taking a lame selfie!)

O M G

About time!!!!

Girls trips are so fun! Sounds like you have a great group!
Definitely a great group! I am really looking forward to it. :)
I am conflicted about this myself. I know I want some ADRS...even made a ton. But food and wine.... I don't want to be too full. KWIM?
Totally. I didn't leave nearly enough time for Food & Wine during last year's Wine & Dine trip and really regretted it, so I want to make sure to make time for the festival this year. There were quite a few things I wanted to try, but didn't get around to it.
Of course! You have to have this as a prerace meal!!! Even with food and wine you can't pass that up!
:thumbsup2 Yep, it's non-negotiable!!
I long for the cheaper air fare travel days. Still, $316 seems to be about going rate so better to book and have it taken care of.
Yeah, realistically I can't see it getting TOO much lower...the best fare I've gotten to Disney was a $99 one-way flight (I forget what the return was) so since I got that fare once I still hold out hope that I will see it again! I did hear that a lot of the Southwest flights for that weekend filled up VERY quickly, so I am glad to just have tickets for the times I wanted. I still keep checking back to see if it drops, though, so I can get a credit. So far they are still the same price as they were when I booked.
I know if my dh was with me and we were looking at doing this.. he would choose to stay over night. I think if travel days is long... that extra hour of sleep can be very helpful!
I think that would be the smart thing to do, especially since I still have my AP and am saving so much on the hotel with my friend's CM discount. It would be FABULOUS to sleep a little later the morning of the flight! :scratchin
I would be too!!! That is some crazy mileage!!!
:faint: It'll be worth it though, right?!
Sometimes I wonder if we don't get little bugs that our body mostly fights off.

Yes, thank you. I figure it was one of those mini bugs. ;)
I could definitely see that being the case. Glad we're both better!
Yup... that would be the chain I am referring to. I wont go to them any more.

I would feel like standing by the flyer and telling each person I could.
Me neither. Nope nope nope!!

I restrained myself from warning people not to shop with them. ;) At least FF knows I was super unhappy with my experience.
Well, I know you have them now... but I am sorry it took so very long.
Me too! It turned into a bit of a mess.
I agree! the chip is an important feature to me!
Right?? It seems like that should be part of what the entry fee covers...:sad2:
It really has made for some much more pleasant runs!!!
:thumbsup2 :rotfl2:
You should be! You did awesome!!
Thanks!! :teeth:
Kids are resilient and crazy. I can see where just getting up that early might be fun if they don't normally do it.
They really did seem to like it! In fact, my mom told me that the older of the two wants to run a 5K now! :thumbsup2
Those runners are just way too fast!
I know!!! I just cannot imagine running that fast!

Awesome!!!
:yay:
Sometimes I think that I feel stiffer in the morning or after I have spent an extended time on dis so I think there is something to that not moving and then having the pain set in. Well, now that I think about it.. duh... the lactic acid set in right? That is why they say to keep walking after a race.
Yeah, I think it's something like that. It makes sense too...I felt fine all day after the race, woke up the next morning and...ouch!!
I really need to add an ab work out. (after being asked if I was pregnant) Do you feel this is easy enough to start? Is it a video? Just a training program? maybe I should google it.
It's a video...actually I just Googled it and it DID pop up! I am very surprised - the workout is part of P90X, so I am shocked that it's out there for free. :confused3 I didn't used to be. It's a video and it takes 16-17 minutes. Warning - the guy who runs it (Tony Horton) is INCREDIBLY cheesy...

There are 11 moves (some you do twice, like you'll do it on the right side, then on the left side), 25 reps per move...when I started I think I first tried to do 10 reps per move and have tried to add one more rep every week or every other week. I'm up to 20 reps per move now, and I can't see ever getting to 25! :faint:
Congrats to you on starting! A commitment to yourself is the BEST commitment to make.
Thanks! :goodvibes Wish I would have done it sooner, but better late than never!
I am so sorry that this place has been so lacking in their service that the bar is set that low./quote]
Me too! :headache: I'm so glad I don't have to deal with them anymore! I'm definitely sticking to my local place from now on!!!
I know this is done already, but let me just say that sometimes a spur of the moment race is so fun to do. I think it tests us and pushes us a tad outside our comfort zone even if it is only 2 miles away from home.
You're right, especially about going outside the comfort zone. Plus, we don't know many people in our town (I think not having kids makes that difficult) so I like participating in these community events. Makes me feel like part of the group!
Beautiful picture. I hope to get back to WDW some day during the holidays. I love fall there... but Christmas time is amazing too.
Thanks!! :goodvibes That's one of my favorite that I have taken. I LOVE WDW at Christmas, but fall is great too.
So glad to hear someone else say that a run was "healing' I am afraid I come across like a crazy person when I suggest that a run might make me feel better when I am feeling a tad sore or ill.
It releases endorphins though, right? So it's scientifically proven to make you feel better! ::yes::
I think that running in a hot cardio room is HARD. You did a great job there!!!
It IS! Great training for running at Disney though...
That is awesome that he wants to get back into it!!!
:yay: I think he's liking it so far!
First, I think this time of year is rough. longer days make you want to stay up later.

Second, that is awesome that you did that together!!
Totally agree. It doesn't feel like it's almost bed time when it's still light out at 9PM! How confusing.
I am not sure how you get anything done in the cardio room with it so hot! AND to do speed work
:confused3 It's all in the rest intervals, without those I would be like...:faint:
I need to pay closer attention to early bird registration. That is a heck of a deal!!
:thumbsup2 Saving a bit of cash is always good!!!
That is frustrating. I hate getting a shirt in the wrong size... but if they can't get you answers that just makes it worse! I mean... I am only to blame if I order a medium womens shirt and it turns out to small or big...but if they can't clarify that it is a mens or womens...
Yeah, and they never responded to my email. I'm annoyed!
That is awesome!! You should totally take it as a win!

Thank you!! Yeah, I guess this is MY PTR, right? I should be able to talk about what I want to?? :rotfl2:

Thank you for saying that!!
That is an awesome goal! Not to far off either!
I think it seems realistic too. I wish I'd started earlier! Oh well.
YUM! is that bread pudding from ohana?
YES! :lovestruc YUUUUMMMMMMMMM
Well, your overall pace isn't bad and your distance is decent too! Maybe not your best? But you still got it done so that is a win!!!
:thumbsup2 I think I need to remember that when I started this PTR I was just getting back on the running wagon after a year of burnout, plus an injury. So if a run is not my best, that is okay. At least I am doing it!!
I find it interesting that some people (myself included) really have to pay close attention to what they take in pre run. However... what you did it... sounds super yummy!!!! Rhubarb jam? YUMMMMMM
It was SOOOO good. Now we are out of it and I am sad. We have a Farmer's Market here at work so I'm crossing my fingers that the same Amish family will be there and I can stock up! They also make amazing pies and cookies...but I will try to stick to the bread and jam!
I have never thought to do that? If I have more that I need to get in I always do it after the race. Maybe as a warm up would be better.
I have heard of warming up ahead of time but never did it - I do think it helped, just so that I wasn't starting from zero when the race began, and I could see doing it again for a 5K or a 10K. I think for anything longer than that I'm fine with running the first mile or two a little slower and using that as a warm-up.

Before the race I googled pre-race warm-ups and some people were saying to do sprints, high knees, etc. But I just jogged around a bit and that seemed to be okay for me.
Sounds like a great race!!!

First, congrats on a PR!! I had to be regardless, right?

Second, maybe the course was not short? If it was USATF certified there will be an actual distance recorded.

Third, this is a reason I like to make sure courses are certified.
I do think it was a PR. My old one was 28:03 or something so this was definitely a bit faster. :thumbsup2

This course was NOT certified. The race was so small and informal that I am more inclined to believe that it was just a bit short.
I agree with you! I feel like the registration costs we pay should cover a nicely promoted race! That includes chip timing and course certification!!!!
AGREED! ARG! I guess if I really want to "officially" get a new 5K PR I'm going to have to read the race descriptions a little more closely, and maybe picka bigger race.
Sounds like you were very frustrated. I do think you ran an excellent race though!!!
Thank you! I was frustrated but I think I've made my peace with it now. :confused3 You're right though, overall I do think I did the best I could.
I am not sure it helps entirely. I do think it gave me a tad bit of a jump start once I did start running (just a little over 2 years ago) since I wasn't totally sedentary.
That's gotta count for something! :thumbsup2

I guess genetics and 4 babies all born via cesarean section have not given me the best ab muscles. (hence why I really should do something about it)
I'm actually wearing that same dress right now! :rotfl2: So apparently the comment didn't bother me a ton! You're right that it seems almost maternity-like though...:rotfl2: It's just really comfortable!

Genetics just aren't fair sometimes. :( 4 c-sections...wow!!!
Who knows though, maybe you will PR both distance AND race.
I hope so! That would be cool!!!
:thumbsup2 I hope it's easier!!!

Everyone is different.... people just need to be in tune with what is right for them. Sometimes that requires us to make mistakes and push our boundaries...
I KNOW I couldn't do it. My brother can do these longer races on pretty minimal training but I'd definitely injure myself.
That is a great deal! That makes it $3 a drink? WoW you can't buy a drink for that anywhere!
Yep! They are a little smaller but I still think it's a pretty good deal! Plus you get to learn how to make them, so it's pretty fun.
It is funny. I read about people being very excited about POG. I think people can't get this in all parts of the country? Don't get me wrong. I like it a lot. I just can go buy it at the store so it is not any different than buying any other kind of juice.
Yeah, I've looked around here...no dice. I could see how it's not super exciting if you can get it whenever you want!

About time!!!!
I KNOW. :cool1:

Week 2 of 4th of July 5-miler Training
Monday, May 26, 2014 - Sunday, June 1, 2014

14.2 miles completed
28.95 miles completed in 5-miler Training
284.75 miles completed in 2014 so far

Once again, I don't have any pictures from this week, so I'll just post some random Disney pictures. Since we're staying at the Boardwalk for Marathon Weekend...all of these pictures are from the Epcot resort area!!

Monday, May 26: Strength Training (ChaLEAN Extreme Lean 1) + Ab Ripper X (20)

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!

To any current or former members of the armed services...THANK YOU for your service. :flower3:

I wish I could say I got a lot done today...but I didn't. I did CLXL1 and Ab Ripper X, but there were a few house chores I wanted to do that went unfinished (okay...I didn't even start them :guilty:). Just felt really wiped today.

The results from Saturday's 5K-but-not-really-a-5K were posted this evening...my stats:
Official time: 27:00.3, 8:43/mile pace (again, according to my watch this was for 3 miles...I ran an extra 0.1 to make it 3.1 miles, so per my watch I ran a true 5K in 27:51, 8:57/mile pace...assuming the watch is correct)
6/19 in age group
112/257 overall

So this was a much smaller race than I originally estimated. Normally I don't pay much attention to age group results, because it all depends on who shows up that day, ya know? Like...if I was the only female in the 30-34 age group, I would have won! Yeehaw! But 5 faster ladies were there. But this time I did pay more attention because at first I was like, "oh man, I almost placed in my age group!" Then I looked at the times of the 5 ladies ahead of me: 22ish, 22ish, 23ish, 23ish, 25ish. Then little ol' me with my 27ish time. Yeah, I wasn’t even close to placing! :rflol: The overall counts were interesting because man, what a freaking small race! Especially after running the mean streets of Cleveland with 20,000 other runners last weekend!

Tuesday, May 27: Run #1 (3 miles on the treadmill) + Extreme Abs

WORST RUN EVER!!! :faint:

Okay, probably not the worst ever, but this was definitely the worst I've had in awhile. The cardio room was boiling, I was stupid and didn't pick a treadmill close to the fan (no excuse for that, as ALL of the treadmills were open), and I had a small DQ blizzard last night (I tracked it in my WW app...17 points+!! Okay every once in awhile, but definitely not more than that). In case you are wondering, today I learned that a blizzard is about the worst thing one can eat the night before a run.

After 2.5 miles I was seriously considering quitting...I switched to a treadmill closer to a fan and that felt better, but I still bagged it before finishing my planned 4-miler.

Total time: 34:01 for 3 miles, average pace of 11:20ish/mile...and it was a struggle the entire time. :crazy2:

I feel mostly okay now (about 4 hours later) but I finished that run with a splitting headache...and like I said, I was originally planning on a 4-miler. Oops! I guess I'll just switch that with Saturday’s planned 3-miler and call it good.

After the run I did Extreme Abs and felt a little better...I think my body was just so happy to be off of the treadmill. It seemed like I could keep up with the video a little better today.

Also, today I was poking around in My Disney Experience* and realized I didn't check in online for our one-night stay before our cruise (53 days to go!!!)! So we are checked in now and I have my room requests in at Saratoga Springs (Congress Park, Upper Floor). We plan on spending the evening at Downtown Disney, so hopefully Congress Park will come through!

*Initially I was poking around to see if there was a WDW AP link up for early registration for the newly announced Star Wars Half Marathon (I didn't see one). The race weekend is tempting, but it's not gonna happen for me in 2015. Too close to Marathon Weekend. Plus, I know my brother really wants to run it and with his school schedule he won't be able to do it so soon. Maybe 2016? That's okay...I've got my eye on another Disneyland race weekend for 2015. ;)

WDWHolidayEdit-244.jpg

Wednesday, May 28: Strength Training (ChaLEAN Extreme Lean 2) + Ab Ripper X (20)

Great workout this morning after yesterday's crappy run. Lean 1 focuses on biceps/triceps/legs, Lean 2 focuses on shoulders/back/legs, and Lean 3 is sort of overall arms/chest/legs. So after this morning my shoulders are definitely sore!

Still stuck at 20 reps per move for Ap Ripper X...I'm okay with that though. I'm still getting a good workout.

I called Fleet Feet yesterday. Still no update on my sunglasses, but they are expected to come in "sometime in the next week." Ooooookay. I'll call back on Friday, which will mark one month since I ordered the stupid things. One month and the store has called me once during that time...where I've called probably 5-7 times :teeth: They're doing another event here today and tomorrow but I don't think I'll stop by to bug them in person. That didn't really get me anywhere last time.

WDWHolidayEdit-223.jpg

Thursday, May 29: Run #2 (35-minute tempo run planned, 3.2 miles complete)

Another run in the books...man, I hate tempo runs. They seem to take forever! At least this one was on the short side. I wasn't able to get the treadmill closest to the fan (it was taken when I arrived) so I was drenched in sweat by the end. Also didn't get up early enough to get any ab work in, so I may do that later.

In other news, I just found out that my brother (aka my normal runDisney parter-in-crime Princess Craiggy) is coming up for my cousin's wedding!! Yay! He's in nursing school in New Orleans and I haven't seen him since Marathon Weekend 2013. He was supposed to visit around Thanksgiving but got into a car accident and ended up needing surgery (he's almost 100% fine now, thankfully), so that trip was canceled. His program is pretty rigorous so he does'’t get many days off. We'll all be very glad to see him!

WDWHolidayEdit-226.jpg

**WW UPDATE**

Today was weigh-in day: down another 2.2 pounds! This after a weekend that included dinner out twice, which I think I forgot to mention earlier. Saturday night was with my in-laws for belated Mother's Day gifts, and Sunday was with Will for our belated anniversary celebration (this was at our very favorite restaurant and included pretzel bread with peanut butter butter - that's peanut butter + butter whipped together...OMG HEAVENLY - two drinks, macaroni and cheese AND dessert - no regrets!). And then I had that DQ Blizzard on Monday night. Maybe I'm just getting lucky or maybe I'm still in that magical period when one first starts trying to lose weight and big numbers are posted in the first few weeks...or maybe it's not luck since I recorded everything in the tracking app and didn't go crazy any of the other days? :confused3: That's definitely a change from the way I used to do things - normally I'd have that big dinner out with Will and just not estimate points+ for it, but this time I did, so I knew where I stood. Either way, very pleased. I don't feel like I’m starving or depriving myself so far, so that is a plus!

A few weeks back I jotted some goals down here…1.) to lose 5 pounds by June 13 (my cousin's wedding) and then another 5 before the Wine & Dine trip. After I put that in this thread I promptly gained a couple of pounds :headache: and didn't mention those goals again because I didn't think I could do it, but they've still been in the back of my mind. Currently I'm 2.8 pounds away from that initial goal number (which is also the max "normal" weight for my height...so right now I’m 2.8 pounds overweight, I guess :rolleyes1). I THINK I can do it by June 13. I hope so, anyway. Really at this point I'll just be happy if I feel comfortable and like I look good in the bridesmaid dress I bought - which I freaking love. :lovestruc

I think my clothes are starting to feel a little better and I think I look a little better, but the best part of this so far is that I'm beating myself up less. For awhile I said I wanted to lose weight, and then I'd wake up in the morning (not EVERY morning, but more often than not) and initially think, "Okay, I did great yesterday! Oh, except I ate that...and I ate that...and that…" And I'd just feel terrible about myself. It was a feeling I started to dread, and it seriously went on for...I don’t know, a year or so? And now I haven't had that feeling in over a week! It's been awesome.

I'm also relieved that I’m starting this back up again before I gained back EVERYTHING. I talked a little bit about my first (through a nutritionist) and second (through Weight Watchers at-work meetings) go-round with weight loss in my older training journal...long story short I lost about 22 pounds for my wedding, gained back about 13, lost 27 through Weight Watchers back when I went to the meetings (leading up to Marathon Weekend 2013), and have gained back 15 since then. So apparently I'm decent at losing weight...keeping it off is another story. Hopefully I can do it this time! (As an aside...reading back through that old post was really eye-opening. I think I lost sight of the perspective I used to have!)

Friday, May 30: Strength Training (ChaLEAN Extreme Lean 3) + Run #3 (4-mile out-and-back)
Weather: 72 degrees and sunny, slight breeze

Woohoo Friday!!

So last week on my run + strength training day I did the run portion (the sort-of 5K) first, then did the lifting part. Today I decided to switch things up to see if I liked that order better...last week I felt like I didn't really give my best on the strength training portion because my legs were sort of wiped from the race.

Before I did anything I had two pieces of thickly-sliced break from the Amish booth at the Farmer's Market...one topped with their rhubarb jam and the other topped with peanut butter. I need to get back to the market to re-stock our supply! Soooooo good!

After about a half hour it was time to get extreme! Good workout today. This one focused on chest, shoulders, legs, abs...a little bit of everything! Lots of push-ups...ugh. I don't love all the moves in this workout but overall I felt like I did do better than last week.

I was about to step out the door for my run when I noticed a small box on the porch...MY SUNGLASSES. Exactly 1 month after I ordered them. FREAKING FINALLY.

Yours truly...this is why I almost never take selfies. I always make dumb facial expressions.
photo.JPG

Verdict on the sunglasses? So far, they are AWESOME! They fit so well and feel so light that it's almost like I’m not wearing them at all. This whole thing turned into sort of a mini-mess, but I am glad it happened this way - I got a good pair of sunglasses at a discount, and I know never to shop at Fleet Feet. Lesson learned! ::yes::

Anyway...since I lifted first, I was worried my run would suffer as a result, but it really didn't. I think that, as usual, I started too fast, so I allowed myself to relax a lot more for the last few miles. Positive split, yeehaw!

Splits:
Mile 1: 10:20
Mile 2: 10:06
Mile 3: 10:40 --> 1-minute walk break at the beginning of this mile
Mile 4: 10:45 --> 1-minute walk break at the beginning of this mile

Total time for 4 miles: 41:52, 10:27/mile average pace

The results of my little experiment tell me that, in my case, lifting first seems to be better. Something to keep in mind for the future!

And now...time to make dinner. It’s PIZZA NIGHT!! :hyper:

WDWHolidayEdit-238.jpg

Saturday, May 31: Run #4 (4-mile out-and-back)

Happy weekend!!

Another out-and-back today, but this one was a different route than yesterday's. I don’t remember what the splits were but I do know that this one was about a 10:26/mile pace. I think I paced myself a little better for this run, but it was tougher than yesterday's.

The rest of my day is full...it’s my cousin's bachelorette party, so those of us in the wedding party are getting manicures and pedicures, then we're meeting the rest of my cousin's friends out for some bar hopping. Woohoo!

WDWHolidayEdit-227.jpg

Sunday, June 1: Rest Day

:faint:

I rarely ever bar hop like I did last night/this morning (I crawled into bed at about 3:30AM when all was said and done!), and now I remember why - I didn't feel terrible this morning but I felt just off enough to not want to drink again for quite awhile!

I started feeling better by lunchtime - went grocery shopping, then came home and put together a lasagna and some chocolate chip cookies, all for friends of ours - they just had a baby so we went over to visit! The baby (Cameron) was just 3 days old, so tiny and just so adorable. I still don't want one just yet, though! ;)

WDWHolidayEdit-229.jpg

That's all I've got for now. Happy Monday!

Ariel484;51564513*Initially I was poking around to see if there was a WDW AP link up for early registration for the newly announced Star Wars Half Marathon (I didn't see one). The race weekend is tempting said:
So I was debating on the Star Wars race as well. Decided to wait until next year as it is just too close to Dopey weekend. I would essentially have to take 2 weeks off work to make it work, coming from the East Coast. But, I did hear that the the DVC/AP pre-sales sold out in something like 5 minutes. It was crazy. I can only imagine what will happen next Tuesday.

I am still hoping they end up doing a coast to coast Star Wars Race, Rebels v. Imperials. A lot of rumors floating around about that and I think it would be totally awesome, especially with a special Coast-to-Coast Star Wars medal!!

Love your pre trip! We are planning to do the Star Wars race in 2016 too! Then hopefully Disneyland Paris in 2017.

(yep, I was so excited I had to celebrate by taking a lame selfie!)
Ha! When I first read this my brain registered it as "self lame-ie". Take it as you will. Good to know the glasses are lightweight. I don't really wear sunglasses dinning because after awhile it feels like my nose is holding 50 pounds worth of sunglasses.

Thus Star Wars race is such a conundrum for me. On the one had, duh, it's Star Wars and I really, really, REALLY want to do it. On the other hand, since January I have gone from doing zero runDisney races to my husband approving (and funding!) the Tinker Bell 5k, 10k and half, the princess 10k and half, the upcoming Disneyland 10k and half, the Avengers 5k and half and the 2015 Disney World Marathon. I can only imagine his head exploding if I asked to do yet another destination race. I guess I have until June 10 to brainwash him that it woukd be a really GREAT idea :stir:

P.S. did you ladies like that multi post quote response I just did there? :cool1:

Morning! So for the assigned run to day it says "4 Miles with Magic Mile" does anyone know if this means your total is 5 miles, or 4? Didn't know if I ran 4 miles, one of those being a Magic Mile or three with one being a magic mile?

Thanks!

It's a video...actually I just Googled it and it DID pop up! I am very surprised - the workout is part of P90X, so I am shocked that it's out there for free. I didn't used to be.

To you feel it has made a difference for you? I really would love to not look quite so pg. Plus, my size is odd. I ordered a sparkle skirt and when it came the waist is ok...but legs and rear are a bit on the big side. I spoke to the gal at sparkle skirts and with my measurements she basically felt like I was going to always need to have their skirts altered. maybe that wouldn't be the case if I could flatten this ole tummy of mine a tad.

It releases endorphins though, right? So it's scientifically proven to make you feel better!

:thumbsup2 I have felt off all day today... EXCEPT for when I was running or shortly after. I actually went for two runs today.

Thank you!! Yeah, I guess this is MY PTR, right? I should be able to talk about what I want to??

Thank you for saying that!!

Definitely!

I think I need to remember that when I started this PTR I was just getting back on the running wagon after a year of burnout, plus an injury. So if a run is not my best, that is okay. At least I am doing it!!

I am kinda making this my mantra lately. There was a time I really really worried about making each run faster. Now I figure if I am out and getting mileage it... at least I am doing it!

Before the race I googled pre-race warm-ups and some people were saying to do sprints, high knees, etc. But I just jogged around a bit and that seemed to be okay for me.

I have seen people doing the high knees... I think I would hurt myself. I am just not that coordinated. :rotfl2:

I do think it was a PR. My old one was 28:03 or something so this was definitely a bit faster.

Genetics just aren't fair sometimes. :( 4 c-sections...wow!!!
yup

I hope it's easier!!!

Well, I definitely did not die doing the 6x800 today. I walked 400 after each 800. So I bet that is why.

Morning! So for the assigned run to day it says "4 Miles with Magic Mile" does anyone know if this means your total is 5 miles, or 4? Didn't know if I ran 4 miles, one of those being a Magic Mile or three with one being a magic mile?

Thanks!

I hope Shannon knows. I think I have come to rely on her and her wisdom a lot for training. :goodvibes

284.75 miles completed in 2014 so far

:cool1:

Once again, I don't have any pictures from this week, so I'll just post some random Disney pictures. Since we're staying at the Boardwalk for Marathon Weekend...all of these pictures are from the Epcot resort area!!

That is so cool you are booked at BW. BWV or BWI?

[
The results from Saturday's 5K-but-not-really-a-5K were posted this evening...my stats:
Official time: 27:00.3, 8:43/mile pace (again, according to my watch this was for 3 miles...I ran an extra 0.1 to make it 3.1 miles, so per my watch I ran a true 5K in 27:51, 8:57/mile pace...assuming the watch is correct)
6/19 in age group
112/257 overall

That is so awesome! Congrats!!!

I run so many of this size that it seems "normal" to me. I do know what you mean about placing though... there have been times that dh and I have placed when there was no competition. Seems odd to get a ribbon when you are the only one in your age group.

Tuesday, May 27: Run #1 (3 miles on the treadmill) + Extreme Abs

WORST RUN EVER!!!

Sorry that you had a bad run. Funny... I find that icecream is not the best too. Weird, eh?

Also, today I was poking around in My Disney Experience* and realized I didn't check in online for our one-night stay before our cruise (53 days to go!!!)! So we are checked in now and I have my room requests in at Saratoga Springs (Congress Park, Upper Floor). We plan on spending the evening at Downtown Disney, so hopefully Congress Park will come through!

Yay for online check in!!!

I had someone tell me that the rebel challenge sold out the presales in like 10 minutes. Not sure if that is true or not... but wow! It was certainly tempting. Dh thought about registering...but then decided against it so that we can just enjoy our time in FL.

So cool you will get to see him.:goodvibes

That is great that you had another loss this week.

:lovestruc

:cheer2::cheer2: You can do it!

I think that is the vicious cyle in dieting that ultimately makes people fail. You splurge and then feel guilty and then eat worse because of the guilt and then the cycle begins. Not feeling deprived I think sets you up for a much better cycle!

I wish it was as easy to lose the weight as it is to put it on. At least you are not looking at a LOT of weight. Seems much more manageable that way.

I was about to step out the door for my run when I noticed a small box on the porch...MY SUNGLASSES. Exactly 1 month after I ordered them. FREAKING FINALLY.

Yours truly...this is why I almost never take selfies. I always make dumb facial expressions.
photo.JPG

:woohoo: The selfie was definitely in order!!!

That was how both my runs this past week went... I went out too fast in the first mile..managed to go faster for the second and then realized.. NOPE not gonna happen. So I eased of and just let myself enjoy the run rather than kill myself. Sometimes you gotta do that and end up having a good run in doing so. :thumbsup2

I rarely ever bar hop like I did last night/this morning (I crawled into bed at about 3:30AM when all was said and done!), and now I remember why - I didn't feel terrible this morning but I felt just off enough to not want to drink again for quite awhile!

Sorry..but...

:rotfl:

I started feeling better by lunchtime - went grocery shopping, then came home and put together a lasagna and some chocolate chip cookies, all for friends of ours - they just had a baby so we went over to visit! The baby (Cameron) was just 3 days old, so tiny and just so adorable. I still don't want one just yet, though! ;)

Glad you felt better by lunchtime...

Very nice to make a meal for someone like that. Speaking from someone who received meals after my youngest dd was born.... it is SO helpful to the mom and family.

And as for your friends baby... they are so tiny for such a short period of time. :sad2: But... luckily you have time yourself and don't have to want one just yet. :goodvibes

AND... all those bw pics were simply amazing!!!

Yeah, I won't do the Star Wars race until my brother can do it too...with his school schedule that's probably not until 2017. Maybe the popularity will have died down by then! (Probably not.)

The AP/DVC slots for the Rebel Challenge were definitely gone in less than 10 minutes. Yikes!!
I am still hoping they end up doing a coast to coast Star Wars Race, Rebels v. Imperials. A lot of rumors floating around about that and I think it would be totally awesome, especially with a special Coast-to-Coast Star Wars medal!!
I hope they do too. I definitely want to do a race in Disneyland at some points but it's much easier for me to get to Florida.
Love your pre trip! We are planning to do the Star Wars race in 2016 too! Then hopefully Disneyland Paris in 2017.
Thank you! :goodvibes Have you registered for Star Wars yet? If not, I hope you have an easy time getting into the race (TOMORROW)! Woohoo for Paris, that one will definitely be on my bucket list if/when they announce it.
Ha! When I first read this my brain registered it as "self lame-ie". Take it as you will. Good to know the glasses are lightweight. I don't really wear sunglasses dinning because after awhile it feels like my nose is holding 50 pounds worth of sunglasses.
It was definitely lame, so I don't blame you for that. ;)

They are SUPER light. I like them a lot.
I guess I have until June 10 to brainwash him that it woukd be a really GREAT idea
So what's the update?! Have you convinced him?? :rotfl2:

I got to a similar point that you did - not quite as many races, but I did the Princess Half in 2011, the marathon in 2012, goofy + 5K and Jingle Jungle + Wine & Dine in 2013...and just 2 non-race trips in there. The non-race trips were REALLY nice, so much more relaxing. Plus, I discovered cruising...so I'm not sure how much longer I'll keep up with all of these races. I still love doing them but I love the more relaxing trips too.
P.S. did you ladies like that multi post quote response I just did there?
You're big time now!! :cool1:
Morning! So for the assigned run to day it says "4 Miles with Magic Mile" does anyone know if this means your total is 5 miles, or 4? Didn't know if I ran 4 miles, one of those being a Magic Mile or three with one being a magic mile?

Thanks!
I'm so sorry I didn't respond to this sooner!

I assuming you are using the Galloway marathon plan? I looked and here's what the documentation says:

"Use the standard warmup
• Run around a track if at all possible (or a very
accurately measured one mile segment)
• Time yourself for 4 laps (1600 meters). Start the
watch at the beginning, and keep it running until
you cross the finish at 1.0 miles.
• On the first MM, don’t run all-out: run at a pace
that is slightly faster than your current gentle
pace.
• Only one MM is done on each day it is assigned.
• On each successive MM (usually 2-3 weeks later),
your mission is to beat the previous best time.
• Don’t ever run so hard that you hurt your feet,
knees, etc. Maintain a short stride, picking up the
cadence or turnover to run faster.
• After the MM, jog slowly for the rest of the
distance assigned on that day taking as many walk
breaks as you wish.
"

So to me this sounds like your run would be 4 miles total with the MM thrown in there at some point. Although at this point you probably already did that run...:confused3 Hope it was a good one!!!

No big deal, just have a personal tailor on standby......:rolleyes1

I think my stomach has maybe gotten a bit flatter, but I'm not sure if that's from abs stuff, from my slight weight loss, or something else. :confused3 I would HOPE the abs stuff would be helping, because it's not exactly FUN work...I mean, I like it, but you know...
I have felt off all day today... EXCEPT for when I was running or shortly after. I actually went for two runs today.
Oh, nice! Two-a-days! :yay:
Definitely!
:cool1:
I am kinda making this my mantra lately. There was a time I really really worried about making each run faster. Now I figure if I am out and getting mileage it... at least I am doing it!
That's where I am at this point too. :thumbsup2 Getting out there and getting it done definitely counts for something.
I have seen people doing the high knees... I think I would hurt myself. I am just not that coordinated.
:rotfl2: Same here! I think I maybe did some butt kicks, felt stupid, then just jogged for a bit. Warm-up complete!
Well, I definitely did not die doing the 6x800 today. I walked 400 after each 800. So I bet that is why.
Yay for not dying!! :cool1: :rotfl2:
I hope Shannon knows. I think I have come to rely on her and her wisdom a lot for training.
Aww, that's too kind of you to say. I gave my best guess but I don't use Galloway plans anymore, so who knows?!
That is so cool you are booked at BW. BWV or BWI?
Villas! We were able to rent points :yay:

We've stayed on the Inn side twice and the villas side once...love the Boardwalk. :cloud9:
That is so awesome! Congrats!!!
Thanks!! :goodvibes
I run so many of this size that it seems "normal" to me. I do know what you mean about placing though... there have been times that dh and I have placed when there was no competition. Seems odd to get a ribbon when you are the only one in your age group.
True!...then again, a ribbon is a ribbon. :goodvibes
Sorry that you had a bad run. Funny... I find that icecream is not the best too. Weird, eh?
Eh, what can ya do? It's weird because I sort of assume the ice cream is due to all of the dairy, but then I can have cheesy pizza the night before and I'm fine. Maybe it's the sugar in the ice cream. :confused3
Yay for online check in!!!
:yay:
I had someone tell me that the rebel challenge sold out the presales in like 10 minutes. Not sure if that is true or not... but wow! It was certainly tempting. Dh thought about registering...but then decided against it so that we can just enjoy our time in FL.
It is true! I refreshed the AP page and it was gone!

Very responsible decision from your DH. I can't believe how many people are doing both! Seems awesome yet overwhelming (and expensive)!

Not gonna lie...if I could swing it, I'd probably do it. :goodvibes
So cool you will get to see him.
I'm excited! First time I've seen him since he was spectating the marathon in 2013! :goodvibes
That is great that you had another loss this week.
Thanks. :goodvibes
You can do it!
I'm not quite sure I'll get there anymore, but I am still happy with my reuslts so far. I wish I'd started sooner!
I think that is the vicious cyle in dieting that ultimately makes people fail. You splurge and then feel guilty and then eat worse because of the guilt and then the cycle begins. Not feeling deprived I think sets you up for a much better cycle!
I totally agree. Cutting out certain food groups 100% just won't work for me. It's not sustainable long-term.
I wish it was as easy to lose the weight as it is to put it on. At least you are not looking at a LOT of weight. Seems much more manageable that way.
Oh I can put it on alright! :rotfl2:

Yeah, I know I am lucky that I am looking at 15-20 pounds. If I get to where I THINK I want to get to it would be a little over 40 pounds from my highest weight (or the highest weight that I know of). Still lucky that it isn't more than that though.
The selfie was definitely in order!!!
Haha, I thought so!! My long "ordeal" is finally over!! :lmao:
That was how both my runs this past week went... I went out too fast in the first mile..managed to go faster for the second and then realized.. NOPE not gonna happen. So I eased of and just let myself enjoy the run rather than kill myself. Sometimes you gotta do that and end up having a good run in doing so.
I have come to realize that I do that a lot! Exactly what you said - fast first mile, faster 2nd mile, finally start to ease off...:confused3
Sorry..but...

:rotfl:
:rotfl2: I brought that on myself!
Glad you felt better by lunchtime...
Haha...yeah, I did. I didn't feel terrible or anything, just not normal!
Very nice to make a meal for someone like that. Speaking from someone who received meals after my youngest dd was born.... it is SO helpful to the mom and family.
:goodvibes I was so glad to help out in any way!!
And as for your friends baby... they are so tiny for such a short period of time. But... luckily you have time yourself and don't have to want one just yet.
We went to see them again yesterday (my friend - the mom - her birthday was right around the birth of the baby so I made her some cupcakes) and the baby already looks so different! Just from a week ago! Crazy.
AND... all those bw pics were simply amazing!!!
Thank you! Such a photogenic area of WDW. :goodvibes

Week 3 of 4th of July 5-miler Training
Monday, June 2, 2014 - Sunday, June 8, 2014

16.25 miles completed
45.2 miles completed in 5-miler Training
301 miles completed in 2014 so far - FINALLY out of the 200s!!

Again, no pictures from this week (except for one). So we'll go with some Animal Kingdom pictures this time!

Monday, June 2: Strength Training (ChaLEAN Extreme Lean 1) + Ab Ripper X (20) + Extreme Abs

Okay, back to it after a crazy (for me) weekend!

Good workout today. I just felt good to get back to normal. Afterward I hopped on the gym scale, and… Apparently a night of drinking + eating not-so-perfectly the next day is an ideal combination for weight gain. Who knew?! Hopefully it'll go away quickly as I get back to eating like I normally do!

I have to admit...as the day went on I felt worse and worse about what I'd seen on the scale that morning. After work I made the mistake of weighing myself a second time that day, this time on our scale at home - I say mistake because it was a different time of day than I "officially weigh in" (after work vs. right when I wake up) so it wasn't an accurate comparison...but I was 3.4 pounds up from where I was on Thursday!! Then I tried on my dress for the wedding...I had tried it on Saturday before heading out and it had fit SO well, but today it was a little bit tighter. I was SO upset! I didn't cry, but I did have myself a little pity party. :worried: Once that was over, I realized I'd probably been a little cocky - I had 2 weeks in a row of great losses, so I think I thought I could "get away" with going out on Saturday and eating not-great-for-me food on Sunday and still see a loss.

Then I got something in the mail that should have made me happy...an order from Raw Threads. Unfortunately, the tops I got didn't look so great on me...so I felt even worse. :(

The good thing I can take away from this is how I reacted to it...the pity party I had did NOT involve me eating some crappy food to cope. Instead, I headed downstairs and popped in Ab Ripper X (still at 20 reps)...weirdly enough it made me feel a TON better. So much better that about 15 minutes later I decided, what the heck, and did Extreme Abs as well. Double abs day! Will finally watched the Extreme Abs workout and said he thinks it looks better than Ab Ripper X. I think I have to agree...a lot of ChaLEAN Extreme focuses on proper form and doing exercises slowly so that you do the exercises with your muscles working, not just momentum. Ab Ripper X isn't really like that, but Extreme Abs is - plus, the format of Extreme Abs is a lot of exercises done for shorter amounts of time, so I like the variety. I still think it's beneficial to do both though.

So while I'm still a bit disappointed with the weight stuff, I'm glad that I didn't dwell on it too long and just got right back into what has been working for me so far. That’s all I can do. I think I also need to figure out how to handle this stuff in the future, because I want to be okay with loosening the reigns a bit - for example, I'm sure I'll gain some weight on our upcoming cruise. Note to future self - it's okay! Just get back to the plan and don't freak out...the gain will go away.

I wonder if I reacted to it so badly just because I sort of feel like I'm "under the gun" with this wedding coming up? Hmm...

Oh, and I kept those Raw Threads shirts. I decided I WILL feel good about how I look in them eventually. I WILL!

Here they are, Instagram style...can you identify the princesses??? :)

Tuesday, June 3: Run #1 (3 miles on the treadmill)

After quite a few hot, difficult runs, I finally wised up this morning and claimed the treadmill in the cardio room that is closest to the fan. I also brought a water bottle and took small sips during my walk breaks. Both of these things helped, but I was still fully drenched in sweat when I was done. Other than that, not a lot to say about this run...it wasn't great, it wasn't terrible...it was fine.

Total time for 3 miles: 32:44, 10:57ish/mile pace

After the run I hopped on the gym scale, and it showed me down one pound from yesterday. It could just be from sweating during the run, but I'm hoping that the gain from this weekend was temporary and will just work itself out quickly. Probably not a completely realistic thing to hope for though!

This week is Will's last week of school for this year...yay! He's got some end-of-the-year stuff to take care of, plus graduation tonight (while he was gone I did Extreme Abs at home...it's still tough but I'm getting better at it!)...and then a week off before he starts classes of his own. Busy busy!

My favorite park Christmas Tree:

Wednesday, June 4: Strength Training (ChaLEAN Extreme Lean 2) + Ab Ripper X (20)

Woke up this morning, hopped on the scale...ALMOST back to where I was on Thursday. :yay: Tomorrow is my "official" weigh-in day for the week and I do think I'll still see a gain, but at least by now I don’t think it'll be 3 pounds or whatever. So annoying that it's taking me a few days to work off damage I did in just one day (plus one evening at the bars :upsidedow) and that I probably won't make my goal for the wedding now. Oh well...I really want the weight loss to stick this time for the long run, so I guess this is just a bump in the road.

Another morning with Chalene! I'm not sure my shoulders look any more sculpted than they did but I at least I think I'm ready to increase some of the weights next week. I didn't wake up early enough to do abs (AGAIN) and had an early meeting, so I ended up doing Ab Ripper X once I got home, right before dinner.

Wine & Dine/Marathon Weekend Trip Update: Just a small one...Southwest is running a sale right now, so I took a look at my Wine & Dine flights. When I booked they were $158 each way ($316 total), but today they were $139 each way ($278 total)! So I canceled and re-booked, and now I have a $38 credit. It's not much, but every little bit helps. I'm planning on putting this credit toward my flight down to Orlando in January...woohoo!

In other news, today was National Running Day! :yay: I didn't run. :headache: Oops. BUT...Will signed up for a race! It's the Rock & Roll Cleveland Mini Marathon, a 3.5-mile run where participants get a tech shirt and medal at the end. In honor of National Running Day there was a $5 discount on registration, so he took the plunge! It cost $34.99 after those pesky fees (my crappy almost-5K last week cost $20...with the dry-fit shirt, medal, and chip timing, the R&R mini marathon seems like a freaking bargain in comparison!). Currently I'm signed up for the half that day, but I could see myself changing to the mini (there is no change fee to go from the half to the mini). We'll see!

Thursday, June 5: Run #2 (7x400 @ 5K pace...3.75 miles completed)

The week's almost over, woohoo!

I really wasn’t too excited about this run, but it went pretty well. I seemed to feel a little better with each interval, so that was good. The entire workout took a little over 43 minutes and I went 3.75 miles total. I was drenched in sweat by the end (I swear it's gotten hotter in the gym over the past few weeks) but I managed to get the treadmill by the fan and I brought water again, so that helped.

Today was weigh-in day. After a slightly rough start to the week, I was up 0.2 pounds from last week. Honestly, I'm pretty thrilled with that number - on Monday I was up, like, 3.5 pounds or something after the weekend's debauchery, and this morning I was expecting a gain...this isn't bad at all. I'm so relieved! :thumbsup2

I put the weight in the WW app, and a message came up on the app: "Oh...you gained." (Or something like that.) Um, duh...I can see that! Then there was another 3-4 sentences about it. I forget what they said (because I had just rolled out of bed and didn't really care), but man. It was a bit much. Then a couple of hours later there was ANOTHER message from the app about re-committing and getting re-inspired...all because of a 0.2-pound gain! I'm sure it's just pre-programmed to say certain things when a person gains weight, regardless of the amount, but come on, app! I've made my peace with it...you should too! I'm hoping the notifications will die down for the rest of the day, because before I found them to be more motivating ("You're doing great," "keep tracking," etc.)...if they don't I'll turn them off.

I don't think I'll make that little goal I set for myself by the wedding, but that's okay. I still feel better! :goodvibes I've still lost almost 5 pounds in a little under 3 weeks...so I'm happy with that.

One of these trees is not like the others...

Friday, June 6: Strength Training (ChaLEAN Extreme Lean 3) + Run #3 (4.5-mile out-and-back)
Weather: 73 degrees and sunny

These workouts weren't super great for me. :confused3:

I was struggling to complete my reps during strength training...I just felt sort of zapped of energy. I am guessing a combination of not enough sleep during the week and yesterday's speedwork session? Bleh.

After that I headed out for my run. The first 0.5 miles SUCKED. My legs just felt heavy. Eventually I got warmed up and felt pretty great! I stopped for my 1-minute walk break at the beginning of mile 3 - MISTAKE! When I started to run again that heavy feeling had returned. It sort of stuck with me through the rest of my run. Boo!

Splits:
Mile 1: 10:22
Mile 2: 10:26
Mile 3: 11:01 (1-minute walk break at the beginning of this mile)
Mile 4: 11:01 (1-minute walk break at the 3.25-mile mark)
Miles 4 - 4.5: 5:19 (10:33/mile pace)

Total time for 4.5 miles: 48:09, 10:41/mile pace

Not a terrible run by any means but definitely more of a struggle than I would have liked!

Also...today was Will's last day of school! :yay: He has one week off before starting his own classes (semester 2 for his master’s degree). Busy guy!

WDWHolidayEdit-296.jpg

Saturday, June 7: Rest Day

After my not-so-great strength training session and run, I figured I was due for a rest day. So today I slept in and Will and I went to a sort-of nearby outlet mall for some shopping! Fun day with the husband. :) I got some fun things - a couple of tops, some shorts, a new dress (60% off!! I think I'll wear it for the rehearsal dinner for my cousin's wedding next week), new pajama pants (my current pair is ripping ), and 2 new pairs of shorts for strength training sessions from the Nike outlet. Will got a few pairs of shorts, a pair of pants and a cheap pair of flip-flops for our cruise (they’re designated as beach flip flops only).

Sunday, June 8: Run #4 (5-mile loop)
Weather: 63 degrees and overcast, with 83% humidity and occasional rain

Today's run almost seemed doomed from the start. I woke up to the sound of thunderstorms this morning...I will run in most weather conditions, but not thunder and lightning. By early afternoon the bad weather began to go away, but so had my motivation to get this run in. I seriously considered skipping.

Eventually I got dressed (as topless/classic Minnie - black top and my RedMiniTech) and headed out for my run. And IT WAS AWESOME!

Splits:
Mile 1: 10:11
Mile 2: 10:21
Mile 3: 10:54 (1-minute walk break at the beginning of this mile)
Mile 4: 10:00
Mile 5: 10:22 (1-minute walk break at the beginning of this mile)

Total time for 5 miles: 51:51, 10:22/mile pace

I felt comfortable and strong during this entire run. It was so awesome, despite the fact that I got rained on a decent amount. The first mile or so was dry, but after that the rain began. Sometimes it was steady, sometimes (toward the end) it was a light mist. If I'd had a hat on it would have been totally fine. Luckily it wasn't heavy enough that my shoes got soaked.

During the last quarter-mile or so I was running one way and a guy across the street, running the opposite way, gave me a big wave. I waved back (when you're running, always wave back when someone waves to you! ::yes::). It was almost like we were both saying, "hey, it's raining out here, but look at how awesome we are for running through it!" Love it.

Earlier in the run I found myself quickly planning out my outfits for Marathon Weekend - I think I'm fully decided and I only need to purchase one more thing (besides new shoes and socks, which I know I'll need at some point) to make them happen - that Minnie Bow Sweaty Band I found a couple of weeks ago. Yay!

No big deal, just have a personal tailor on standby......

right? I think it doesn't help that I sit right on the edge of two sizes.

I think my stomach has maybe gotten a bit flatter, but I'm not sure if that's from abs stuff, from my slight weight loss, or something else. I would HOPE the abs stuff would be helping, because it's not exactly FUN work...I mean, I like it, but you know...

I do not like ab work. I suspect I do something wrong since it always tends to hurt my back or neck.

Oh, nice! Two-a-days!

Well, one was the 6x800 speed work that I did. As I mentioned...I didn't die (probably because of walking 400 to recover) So that one came out be be like 4.5 miles. Then dh was going out for his and I met up with him. I ran about a half mile with him before he was done but had more time before I had to pick up my dd so rather than load back into my car and drive home only to have to immediately drive back out I stayed and ran another 2 miles. So they were both rather short runs... and both taken pretty easy.

That's where I am at this point too. Getting out there and getting it done definitely counts for something.

I think that it does. I mean.. during times of feeling more bla about things it is much better to still go out and get in some mileage than to just sit on the couch, right?!

Yay for not dying!!

Thanks! It definitely gives me some hope that I can tackle these and maybe even end up enjoying them a bit.

Aww, that's too kind of you to say. I gave my best guess but I don't use Galloway plans anymore, so who knows?!

I think you did a great job explaining. It definitely made it easier for me to understand.

Villas! We were able to rent points

So cool! If I get what I want for marathon weekend we will be at AKL...but we might end up having to be at OKW. Either way I will be happy.

We've stayed on the Inn side twice and the villas side once...love the Boardwalk.

I have yet to stay there. (we are booked for a few nights in October) I am super excited to try it out. It is on our list of possible home resorts. The right contract has to come along.

True!...then again, a ribbon is a ribbon.

A ribbon is a ribbon...this is true.

Eh, what can ya do? It's weird because I sort of assume the ice cream is due to all of the dairy, but then I can have cheesy pizza the night before and I'm fine. Maybe it's the sugar in the ice cream.

I feel like cheese has more protein to it. I know when I had to count each carb I took in... ice cream was totally off the table but I could eat as much cheese as I wanted.

It is true! I refreshed the AP page and it was gone!

That is crazy! Makes me wonder if it will be almost as bad for the GSC next month.

Very responsible decision from your DH. I can't believe how many people are doing both! Seems awesome yet overwhelming (and expensive)!

I saw someone on the marathon thread say that they deferred their marathon weekend once they got registered for the star wars. I wonder how many people are going to do that.

Not gonna lie...if I could swing it, I'd probably do it.

You are a brave girl. ;)

I totally agree. Cutting out certain food groups 100% just won't work for me. It's not sustainable long-term.

Me either. I did decide to cut one food out for the month of June. Just because I have been taking it to an unhealthy level. I realize that I can't do it long term.. but one month might make a bit of a difference. I am cutting out cheeseburgers. I eat them as though they are a staple. When I realized I had cheeseburgers at a majority of my meals in the last week of May I knew I had a problem. Then when I jumped on the scale I knew I needed to take a break from them. So far, 9 days and I am burger free. :rotfl2: Course today what should come in my email box but a 20% for a meal at Red Robin. :faint: I could go and get a salad there...and they do have an amazing wedge salad. But... probably best to just stay away.

Yeah, I know I am lucky that I am looking at 15-20 pounds. If I get to where I THINK I want to get to it would be a little over 40 pounds from my highest weight (or the highest weight that I know of). Still lucky that it isn't more than that though.

I think it becomes exponentially more difficult to lose additional pounds. So 5pounds comes off pretty easily... 10 not so easily... 15... even less... 20.. even less and up over 25 becomes just difficult. At least that is what I saw. Once I took off my weight I have managed to keep most of it off (within a 5 pound range or so) It is why when I see a few pounds I take action because that few can easily turn to 10...to 15 to 20. Much less work to take off the few rather than try and battle more.

I have come to realize that I do that a lot! Exactly what you said - fast first mile, faster 2nd mile, finally start to ease off..

At least we are getting out there...even if we are not being perfect at controlling ourselves in those first couple miles.

We went to see them again yesterday (my friend - the mom - her birthday was right around the birth of the baby so I made her some cupcakes) and the baby already looks so different! Just from a week ago! Crazy.

It definitely is!

Week 3 of 4th of July 5-miler Training
Monday, June 2, 2014 - Sunday, June 8, 2014

16.25 miles completed
45.2 miles completed in 5-miler Training
301 miles completed in 2014 so far - FINALLY out of the 200s!!

:thumbsup2

Good workout today. I just felt good to get back to normal. Afterward I hopped on the gym scale, and… Apparently a night of drinking + eating not-so-perfectly the next day is an ideal combination for weight gain. Who knew?! Hopefully it'll go away quickly as I got back to eating like I normally do!

I bet it will! Like I mentioned above... a little isn't too hard to wrangle back into control.

Well, you know that isn't an accurate representation... so wipe it from you memory! I know... not easy to do. I have done that same thing and regretted it. Best to always get on the same scale at the same time of day :sad2:

Then I tried on my dress for the wedding...I had tried it on Saturday before heading out and it had fit SO well, but today it was a little bit tighter. I was SO upset! I didn't cry, but I did have myself a little pity party. Once that was over, I realized I'd probably been a little cocky - I had 2 weeks in a row of great losses, so I think I thought I could "get away" with going out on Saturday and eating not-great-for-me food on Sunday and still see a loss.

I wouldn't say cocky.. but I think when you "win" you feel like you can celebrate. Rightfully so. Maybe celebrate a tad less next time is all. ;)

Then I got something in the mail that should have made me happy...an order from Raw Threads. Unfortunately, the tops I got didn't look so great on me...so I felt even worse. :(

Is it the style of shirt? I know they have the two different types of tanks. I usually get the equilibrium ones but I wonder if those would be not so flattering on some people and perhaps even if the racerback would be better for me.

That is awesome! Funny how a little bit of exercise will make you feel better.

You have wise advise for your future self. ;)

Oh, and I kept those Raw Threads shirts. I decided I WILL feel good about how I look in them eventually. I WILL!

Those are such cute designs, you HAVE to feel good about how you look in them. :goodvibes

Sounds like it was better though just in the fact that you got a treadmill closer to the fan. :thumbsup2

After the run I hopped on the gym scale, and it showed me down one pound from yesterday. It could just be from sweating during the run, but I'm hoping that the gain from this weekend was temporary and will just work itself out quickly. Probably not a completely realistic thing to hope for though!

I think it isn't unrealistic! Like I wrote above... a few pounds isn't hard to take off... it is when they build upon themselves and turn in to more.

Woke up this morning, hopped on the scale...ALMOST back to where I was on Thursday. Tomorrow is my "official" weigh-in day for the week and I do think I'll still see a gain, but at least by now I don’t think it'll be 3 pounds or whatever. So annoying that it's taking me a few days to work off damage I did in just one day (plus one evening at the bars ) and that I probably won't make my goal for the wedding now. Oh well...I really want the weight loss to stick this time for the long run, so I guess this is just a bump in the road.

Just a small bump and once you do hit your goal you probably won't remember having to work a bit harder for a few days to take off damage done over a nights celebration. :goodvibes

I'm planning on putting this credit toward my flight down to Orlando in January...!

:woohoo:

In other news, today was National Running Day! I didn't run. Oops. We'll see!

I didn't run either. It wasn't a scheduled day for me and work was crazy. :sad2:

Yay on that race registration though!!!

Honestly, I think that is a total win!!! You did awesome taking off the damage done by your "debauchery" :goodvibes

That seems a bit much. I mean... I could see if you gained a few pounds.. or if it was a pattern...but to only gain such a small amount once  For me that would be discouraging. In fact when I was trying to lose weight and was using a wii. It would tell me that I gained and chastise me. I stopped using the darn wii. :rotfl:

I don't think I'll make that little goal I set for myself by the wedding, but that's okay. I still feel better! I've still lost almost 5 pounds in a little under 3 weeks...so I'm happy with that.

That is awesome!!! You should be happy about that!

Boo!

That heavy feeling is the worst! I hate it so much. Often I think mine tends to happen during certain points in my cycle. :rolleyes1

After my not-so-great strength training session and run, I figured I was due for a rest day. So today I slept in and Will and I went to a sort-of nearby outlet mall for some shopping! Fun day with the husband. I got some fun things - a couple of tops, some shorts, a new dress (60% off!!

Sounds like a great day!!!

Sunday, June 8: Run #4 (5-mile loop)
Weather: 63 degrees and overcast, with 83% humidity and occasional rain

:scared:

Today's run almost seemed doomed from the start. I woke up to the sound of thunderstorms this morning...I will run in most weather conditions, but not thunder and lightning. By early afternoon the bad weather began to go away, but so had my motivation to get this run in. I seriously considered skipping.

I read the above comment and literally cringed. Then your next sentence was that it seemed doomed from the start and I had to laugh. I would say with that humidity it would be pretty icky to run in.

Eventually I got dressed (as topless/classic Minnie - black top and my And IT WAS AWESOME!

Splits:
Mile 1: 10:11
Mile 2: 10:21
Mile 3: 10:54
Mile 4: 10:00
Mile 5: 10:22

Total time for 5 miles: 51:51, 10:22/mile pace

I felt comfortable and strong during this entire run. It was so awesome, despite the fact that I got rained on a decent amount. The first mile or so was dry, but after that the rain began. Sometimes it was steady, sometimes (toward the end) it was a list mist. If I'd had a hat on it would have been totally fine. Luckily it wasn't heavy enough that my shoes got soaked.

Glad it turned out to be a good run!

During the last quarter-mile or so I was running one way and a guy across the street, running the opposite way, gave me a big wave. I waved back (when you're running, always wave back when someone waves to you! ). It was almost like we were both saying, "hey, it's raining out here, but look at how awesome we are for running through it!" Love it.

:rotfl: I LOVE it!!! And.. ::yes:: you do have to wave back when someone waves at you.

Earlier in the run I found myself quickly planning out my outfits for Marathon Weekend - I think I'm fully decided and I only need to purchase one more thing (besides new shoes and socks, which I know I'll need at some point) to make them happen -

I have been doing some planning too. I love planning outfits for races. Can't wait to see what you decide. :scratchin something tells me that it might be close to what you ran in on your rainy day run.

right? I think it doesn't help that I sit right on the edge of two sizes.
That stinks! Very frustrating.
I do not like ab work. I suspect I do something wrong since it always tends to hurt my back or neck.
I have a history of back problems and I think running + core work has really helped. One thing that is interesting about the ChaLEAN Extreme ab workouts vs. the P90X workouts is that Chalene has a few back exercises at the end. She says that to really strengthen your core you have to work out your back AND your abs. P90X doesn't have that. I thought that was interesting.
Well, one was the 6x800 speed work that I did. As I mentioned...I didn't die (probably because of walking 400 to recover) So that one came out be be like 4.5 miles. So they were both rather short runs... and both taken pretty easy.
Those 800s are tough! Great job getting that done.

That's awesome that you got to run with your husband a teeny bit too...and funny that you kept running because you didn't have anything else to do. You must be one of THOSE people that likes running!! :goodvibes
I think that it does. I mean.. during times of feeling more bla about things it is much better to still go out and get in some mileage than to just sit on the couch, right?!
Totally. And at the end of the day I feel much better about myself for getting the run in than I would if I'd just sat on the couch instead. :thumbsup2
Thanks! It definitely gives me some hope that I can tackle these and maybe even end up enjoying them a bit.
I have a lot/hate relationship with speedwork - hate it because it's hard, but because it's hard it's SO satisfying to complete a workout as scheduled!
I think you did a great job explaining. It definitely made it easier for me to understand.
Well I hope what I said was right then! :goodvibes
So cool! If I get what I want for marathon weekend we will be at AKL...but we might end up having to be at OKW. Either way I will be happy.
OOOH...good luck. We stayed at AKL over Christmas/New Year's and I fell in love with the place. I seriously considered staying there again for Marathon Weekend. It's so relaxing and peaceful there.
I have yet to stay there. (we are booked for a few nights in October) I am super excited to try it out. It is on our list of possible home resorts. The right contract has to come along.
i really like the feel of the Boardwalk. It's a little less crowded than some of the other resorts, I think. And the Boardwalk Bakery is right there, so that's pretty awesome. :teeth:
A ribbon is a ribbon...this is true.
:cool1:
I feel like cheese has more protein to it. I know when I had to count each carb I took in... ice cream was totally off the table but I could eat as much cheese as I wanted.
Oh yeah! I bet you are totally right! That makes sense. :goodvibes
That is crazy! Makes me wonder if it will be almost as bad for the GSC next month.
Honestly, I think Star Wars is going to sell out faster than any other Disney race has. I'm sort of looking forward to the mayhem tomorrow (probably a mean thing to say since I'm sure a lot of people are really nervous to try to register!)
I saw someone on the marathon thread say that they deferred their marathon weekend once they got registered for the star wars. I wonder how many people are going to do that.
Maybe quite a few...I wonder how many are going to do both. Or both plus the CC5K Challenge!!
You are a brave girl.
Well I'm not actually doing it! I need to save my time off from work for other things so I literally cannot do it this year.
Course today what should come in my email box but a 20% for a meal at Red Robin. I could go and get a salad there...and they do have an amazing wedge salad. But... probably best to just stay away.
Congrats on being burger-free!! :cool1: I hope you can successfully do it all month like you wanted. I do think Coke is probably my favorite thing that I SHOULD cut out, but I feel better than I'm down to just 1 or 2 per week now. That seems like an improvement...
I think it becomes exponentially more difficult to lose additional pounds. I could definitely see it being way more overwhelming if you have more to lose. Mentally I think that would be a challenge for me...that's why I'm trying to break up my (relatively small) amount into smaller chunks...to try to make it more manageable.
At least we are getting out there...even if we are not being perfect at controlling ourselves in those first couple miles.
AGREED!!!
It definitely is!
He is sooooo cute. And apparently a really good baby too. He's a sweetie! :)
I bet it will! Like I mentioned above... a little isn't too hard to wrangle back into control.
At this point I think it's gone! Woohoo! :yay:
Well, you know that isn't an accurate representation... so wipe it from you memory! I know... not easy to do. I have done that same thing and regretted it. Best to always get on the same scale at the same time of day
Totally true. I'm trying hard not to get too wrapped up in the whole thing. I hate how bad it makes me feel from time to time...one of the big reasons why I want it to really stick this time. I'm tired of beating myself up!
I wouldn't say cocky.. but I think when you "win" you feel like you can celebrate. Rightfully so. Maybe celebrate a tad less next time is all.
Haha, touche! You may have a point there. ;)
Is it the style of shirt? I know they have the two different types of tanks. I usually get the equilibrium ones but I wonder if those would be not so flattering on some people and perhaps even if the racerback would be better for me.
It's the racerback style. They are so darn cute that I am determined to have them look good on me. It WILL happen!!!!!!
That is awesome! Funny how a little bit of exercise will make you feel better.
It totally did!! :yay:
You have wise advise for your future self.
Yeah, I need to print that out and carry it around with me. :goodvibes
Those are such cute designs, you HAVE to feel good about how you look in them.
Right?! They are adorable!!
Sounds like it was better though just in the fact that you got a treadmill closer to the fan.
Yes! That made a huge difference.
I think it isn't unrealistic! Like I wrote above... a few pounds isn't hard to take off... it is when they build upon themselves and turn in to more.
We'll see! I'm heading down the home stretch here...

If nothing else I know I have made progress and feel better about myself, so that's a win anyway, even if I don't hit that exact number...

...I'd really like to hit that number though. :p
Just a small bump and once you do hit your goal you probably won't remember having to work a bit harder for a few days to take off damage done over a nights celebration.
You're right. And it's not like I regret going out that night. I was there with my two cousins (we grew up together, they're like sisters to me), my aunt (who is like my second mother) and my mom...and we all had a great time. I wouldn't have wanted to miss that! :goodvibes
I didn't run either. It wasn't a scheduled day for me and work was crazy.
Yeah, I didn't want to run just to say I ran that day. :confused3
Yay on that race registration though!!!
:yay: i think Will is excited for the race!
Honestly, I think that is a total win!!! You did awesome taking off the damage done by your "debauchery"
Thank you!!! LOL!!
Right?? I'm so glad I was in the right state of mind before I read that. I really think I would have been reduced to tears otherwise! At least I know that for the future. :rolleyes2
That is awesome!!! You should be happy about that!
I definitely am. I wish I would have started a little earlier but oh well!
That heavy feeling is the worst! I hate it so much. Often I think mine tends to happen during certain points in my cycle.
I know what you mean - not good!!!
Sounds like a great day!!!
It was! Husband doesn't even like shopping that much but he hung in there. :goodvibes
I read the above comment and literally cringed. Then your next sentence was that it seemed doomed from the start and I had to laugh. I would say with that humidity it would be pretty icky to run in.
I think the fact that it was overcast and a bit cooler saved me. It did feel sticky though!
Glad it turned out to be a good run!
:goodvibes
I LOVE it!!! And..you do have to wave back when someone waves at you.
I like waving at other runners! It makes me weirdly happy for some reason, like we're in a secret club!
I have been doing some planning too. I love planning outfits for races. Can't wait to see what you decide. something tells me that it might be close to what you ran in on your rainy day run.
 ;)

Don't beat yourself up for having a bad weekend. Sometimes that Saturday night out is good for the soul even if it doesn't work well for the exercise portion. It won't last long! (I ate & drank a ton during my 3 trips in May & it didn't stick over the course of the month)

Good attitude to get back at it for motivation for working out!

The Raw Threads shirts look cute!

Thank you. :goodvibes You're right, I do totally beat myself up. I guess I just expect a lot of myself or something. :confused3 Maybe too much sometimes??
The Raw Threads shirts look cute!
They are SO cute!...except that I wore one to run this morning and realized that they aren't going to work for me. Too big in the chest area!! ARRRRG.
