In Search of my Body...Not The One I Ate.. #4 "Inspiring Others... 1 Tiara at a Time"

Thanks, Lisa!

I am not anti-protein by any means. I know that when you are building muscle, Protein is President. No worries there. I just have issues with protein being the answer to everything. As a country, we eat too much of it. And the all-protein, no-carb craze is infuriating. But I digress once again...:lmao:

Thanks for your training program...it is pretty close to mine. I was just reading somewhere (Bingham, maybe?) that a good way stay Half Ready is to cycle your long runs. Like if Sunday is your long run day, then the first Sunday you run 5, the next 8, and the next 10, then back to 5. And so on. (Of course, this assumes you are already prepared for a Half to begin with.) I wish I could remember where I read this. If it was Bingham, I will trust it. If not...then :confused3

Dawn, you CAN do this. You and Carsyn both. Download the C25K program for both of you and give it a go. Do exactly what the program says and if you cannot run, walk at a brisker pace than normal. Then, around March or April, try to find a 5k for you both to do in your area. There has to be some because they have them here in the middle of nowhere.....You so CAN do this!! Any of you can. WORD (had to borrow it E, sorry).

Also, :cake: :rockband: party: :bday: Baylor. Shelby just turned 14 and I feel your pain. Not looking forward to David hitting the teen scene.....:sad1:

E, I like the cycling theory. I just always feel ready with the 9 mile runs. The actual race training plans are more intense and add in a lot of speed work and such. Not that I always do it because I don't. There are just days when I don't feel the love and getting the miles is more important to me. I tried running for time like some plans called for and I ended up hurting myself trying to run too fast in the time limits. Anyway, as for the protein thing, I feel the same way on the high protein no carb diet issue. People, if you are not putting it out there, you should not be eating tons of protein, you are killing your kidneys no matter how much water you drink. Seriously.

I add the extra protein is as a post-run snack so I don't munch all afternoon, cuz I will, especially with my mileage up. Either I add a scoop of whey protein to my Accelerade OR I have a great postrun smoothie recipe given to me by one of the future Ironman competitors on the boards that I use. I have a couple high protein smoothie recipes that work for me. If I don't have time or I don't want to make the time it is the whey powder. You can also add a scoop of whey powder to your cereal in the morning to boost your protein intake pre-run if you eat beforehand. I run in the afternoon so this does not work for me, except on Sunday and I do this during intense training only.

Good Morning! Ugh, I feel like death this morning. I want nothing more than to stay in bed with the blankets up to my chin. Listening to the podcast might be bad, don't want to have a coughing fit. :rotfl:

Going to try to get a little walk in today ~ most likely in the parking garage. It's at least protected from the wind and has it's own hills, lol.

I'm starving, so off to eat a quick bite before work.

We are on a role! How about 6 more pages by 8pm?

I use the whey protein powder as a supplement once in a while, so I am used to that. Thanks for the reminder...I may add that in and see if I notice a difference. It is 100 cals. per serving (not including what you mix it into it), so I will have to account for it since I am in tracking mode.

BTW, WAY TO GO on the 2-pound loss! WOO HOO! :cool1: :cheer2: :cool1: :cheer2: Goddess crown, totally!

That is right, people, TOMORROW we post our results for the first week of the CHALLENGE. How are you doing? You still have today and tomorrow to get in those last-chance work-outs!

Can you travel somewhere warmer until Monday when your heat comes back from tour?:rotfl2:

Laughing will warm you up....:)

Hows the weather over there?! :rotfl:
If I didn't laugh, well I would kidnap the plumber and lock him in my cellar. :rotfl2:

we like it when we can prove people wrong. especially those "nay-sayers". :thumbsup2

I love to prove people wrong. DH once said I couldn't fit a full snack pack of Oreo cookies in my mouth. Ha, did he look stupid when I did. :lmao:

And after reading here, people were recommending the Couch to 5K program. This program brings you from being a complete non-runner (like I was) to running a 5k in 9 weeks. Here is the link:

http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

I've heard people mention couch to 5K. Im am going to check this out. I would like to feel like I 'earned' the medal for doing the Race For Life, you know what I mean?

which makes me wonder....Kelly/Bella (you had BETTER be sleeping...)....did you get your heat fixed???? :confused3

Nopey. Dawn was not kidding - no heat until maybe Monday! So cold my eyelashes have iced up.

Baylor's 13th Birthday today

:cool1: Happy Birthday Baylor!
Dawn - I hope you have a fabulous day

That is right, people, TOMORROW we post our results for the first week of the CHALLENGE. How are you doing? You still have today and tomorrow to get in those last-chance work-outs!

This may surprise people given the tin of sin/cold/no exercise frenzy I have been partaking in this week, but I think Im ready!

Aimee - Yes, jump on a plane all of you and sort this man out. He is getting on my last nerve ending :rotfl2:

Hmm, I thought I had quoted pictures. Maybe I did and someone stole them

Anyhoo - Liz/Erika You both look fantastic. Really great!
I loved the picture of Erika and Kat laughing. Made me laugh out loud. And laughing is keeping my cockles warm at the minute, so all funny is welcomed!

Hi all....I know I needed to go back and find this chart to remember what my commitment was exactly...and since E - you are the keeper of the numbers...here is a question...and I am really excited to want o ask you since accountability is an issue I have and I am makingmyself be accountable...

We are running this challenge through the month of January right? So if by chance I am currently behind in my excersize portion of the commitment :rolleyes1 I made to myself, can I make up the time next week...or is it strictly looked at as a weekly breakdown vs average...? :confused3

I am getting my fierce on and competiitive streak kicked in the tukkus...and I know that I will only have 3 vs 5 60 minute cycles I need to account for by tom...and I want to make up those other 2...just curious if I get credit for them teach :teacher: ...yes I will do them for me...but at the end of the day...wondering where I will stand for the month...can you imagine all the stupid clarifying questions I asked in classes?:lmao:

I have been tracking really good and have had no pop at all...and passed on donughts this morning that Baylor asked for for his B-day...so progress none the less...and I feel proud...feels good to say that...:yay:

/
Paula: Any word on the shirt?

Not yet, but you reminded me to give them another call... thanks.

Today is a crazy one for me so I may be absent for a while. Try not to go too crazy and post a million pages because I won't be able to keep up.

Happy Birthday Baylor!!!

Erika - I am never going to live down the shots am I? ;) Those were good times.

Kelly - I am so sorry about the heating situation. I know nothing about how the HVAC world works in the UK, but I would so be putting on my angry eyes by now. Good luck!

OK - I have many other responses to give, but I really need to run. I have a meeting in ten minutes and I haven't even looked at what I need to prepare. Does doing the mad dash to get to a meeting count as exercise?

Paula

Freakin cold....-6 reg temp this morning and gas at $1.89 vs $1.35 last week....ugh...

I love to prove people wrong. DH once said I couldn't fit a full snack pack of Oreo cookies in my mouth. Ha, did he look stupid when I did. :lmao: Have pic's of this amazing feat?

:cool1: Happy Birthday Baylor!
Dawn - I hope you have a fabulous day

Thanks...we will...

This may surprise people given the tin of sin/cold/no exercise frenzy I have been partaking in this week, but I think Im ready!
Proud of you...
And laughing is keeping my cockles warm at the minute, so all funny is welcomed!

Ummm..we don't have cockles here in the US...is that a growth of some sort? Shall we inform the Red Cross?:rotfl2:

Ooh good question. Food and tracking - Yes siree, Exercise - No, siree. Hmm. However, with my fool-proof 'couch to cross trainer CSI' exercise plan that starts on Saturday I should be able to catch up, if this is indeed allowed.

I need to borrow your Angry Eyes, stat.

Dawn - Temperature, about the same. Gas, slightly cheaper over here I think. Heck, I think I'll come over anyway! :lmao:
We did have pictures of Oreo Stuffing Day. Not sure where they are now, I think DH deleted them before the wedding - you know, to make sure he didn't get a glance of it on the morning of the wedding and call it off :lmao:

Oh, and passing on Doughnuts :worship:

Ummm..we don't have cockles here in the US...is that a growth of some sort? Shall we inform the Red Cross?:rotfl2:

Im not really sure what cockles are. I know you drink Hot Chocolate to warm them on cold days!

They are also some kind of disgusting sea food, which looks like giant bogies.

For all of us cold right now...it is not as bad as this...it always could be worse:

JUNEAU, Alaska – Ted Johnson planned on using a set of logs to a build a cabin in Alaska's interior. Instead he'll burn some of them to stay warm.

Extreme temperatures — in Johnson's case about 60 below zero — call for extreme measures in a statewide cold snap so frigid that temperatures have grounded planes, disabled cars, frozen water pipes and even canceled several championship cross country ski races.

Alaskans are accustomed to subzero temperatures but the prolonged conditions have folks wondering what's going on with winter less than a month old.

National Weather Service meteorologist Andy Brown said high pressure over much of central Alaska has been keeping other weather patterns from moving through. New conditions get pushed north or south while the affected area faces daily extremes.

"When it first started almost two weeks ago, it wasn't anything abnormal," Brown said. "About once or twice every year, we get a good cold snap. But, in this case, you can call this an extreme event. This is rare. It doesn't happen every year."

Temperatures sit well below zero in the state's various regions, often without a wisp of wind pushing down the mercury further.

Johnson lives in Stevens Village, where residents have endured close to two weeks of temperatures pushing 60 below zero.

The cold has kept planes grounded, Johnson said. Food and fuel aren't coming in and they're starting to run low in the village, about 90 miles northwest of Fairbanks.

Johnson, whose home has no heater or running water, said he ventures outside only to get more logs for burning and to fetch water from a community facility. He's been saving the wood to build a cabin as a second home, but that will have to wait a few years now because the heat takes precedence.

"I've never seen it this cold for this long," he said. "I remember it 70 below one time, but not for a week and a half."

In Anchorage, Alaska's largest city, residents are used to lows of about 10-degree temperatures in January — not 19 below zero, which is what folks awoke to Wednesday morning.

Temperatures finally settled to about 10 below at midday, but that was cold enough to cancel races in the U.S. Cross Country Ski Championships.

Skiers won't compete unless it's warmer than 4 below zero, but the numbers have ranged between 10 below and 15 below.

That has led to four days of canceled or postponed competition with organizers hoping to get a set of races under way on Thursday, the event's final day.

Meanwhile, in Juneau, the state's capital is enjoying balmy weather by comparison with lows in the single digits.

Why thank you my good lady. So cockle = heart ventricles. Doesn't have quite the same ring but I like it! :rotfl:

This is for you, Kelly....

MY BUMMOCKS HURTS :rotfl2:

I had a 7:00am appointment with the trainer at the gym....:headache: Serious muscle fatigue :rolleyes1 my, oh my.

Finally sitting with a cup of coffee here :surfweb: gonna go back and see what I missed since last night :goodvibes

Morning Ladies!

Slow Start this morning. Stomach is NOT feeling good this morning. I am pretty sure alot of it is nerves (which is totally ridiculous, I know). Little D woke up on the wrong side of the crib, so she is now in for a little morning power nap. Crying/whining at everything. OMG. It sounds like she went to sleep or is at least quiet in there, so maybe she really needed it.

LisaPR-Thanks for posting the "always ready for a 1/2 plan". And, Erika, that is interesting about cycling your long distances like that.

I'm off to try to rest a bit while Delena is napping..Must feel better!

Amy, it surely is nerves. Breathe deep. There are so many people out there to support you, you will not believe it. WDW is truly a magical place to do a race. It really, really is. Go to the Expo and find some WISHers. I hope you plan to do the Pop meet too. Lots of people there. I was pretty nervous last year before the half but once I got sitting and talking to others, I found out I was not alone!!

You will do great and you will have tons of fun too!!! No worries!!!

Ooh good question. Food and tracking - Yes siree, Exercise - No, siree. Hmm. However, with my fool-proof 'couch to cross trainer CSI' exercise plan that starts on Saturday I should be able to catch up, if this is indeed allowed.

Couch to cross trainer CSI exercise plan, LOVE IT!!!

And, umm, what's a bogie?

Spent SIX HOURS last night helping DH re-wire the family room and the bonus room setups. We got a blu-ray player for Christmas and it made us decide to move everything around (like, good DVD player upstairs, etc). I didn't kill him, but I almost stormed out of the house at least twice. And all of this was done with NO alcohol.

However, one good thing about it all was that somewhere in there I forgot to eat the rest of my calories. So here is my food for yesterday (and Nancy/Lisa don't kill me, it wasn't on purpose I promise):

B: half English muffin, ham (100)
L: Ham on flax pita (100), salad (100)
D: Chili on spaghetti (~350), salad (100)

Total, 750. Water, 64 oz. Exercise, none (unless you count yelling).

Good Morning Ladies!!

I'm here - and I'm semi caught-up! I have taken notes - I have matched pictures with names.

I read this thread and parts of the earlier two - until 11:30 last night! I was so caught up - I had meant to get up and grab a snack - but it never happened! So that was GREAT! And you guys are responsible!

I have to make a small confession - I went to the Dr. on December 19 - weighed 233 - today - 235 - so accounting for the holidays - not too bad. So, 235 is my starting number!

Let's see 1st - I have a plan! At least some January goals :

Name Weight Goal Exercise Goal Other

Melissa -6 in January (to 229) Treadmill 2x/week No Coke
(starting 1/9)

I have joined and flunked WW too many times to count! Although I do like the program. I have my materials here and thought I might just pull them out and follow for a week or so to see how it goes.

So - that's my Plan for now.

Next - just a couple of comments -

Thanks to everyone for the WARM, WARM welcome! After all of my reading - I feel as if I know you!

Happy Birthday to Baylor! :bday: party: After what that poor guy has been through he deserves a FANTASTIC Day!

Paula - Maybe we are Twins - I'm really short - older than you - but who knows! Like the movie TWINS (w/DeVito and Arnold!)

Stephanie - I checked out your TR link and saw that I recognized you - because I followed your adventure in preparation for our trip this past December!

Nancy - One of my good friends raises goats too! They are WAY involved in the goat thing! (I have to admit sometimes it's a little scary! :scared:) They are rebelridgeboergoats (dot) com.

Amy - I'm definitely going to check out the Couch to 5K program. Although since I've been in the reclining position on the couch - it might take a few more steps to actually sit upright - then proceed to the 5K!

I absolutely LOVE the idea of the marathon in 2010! I'll shoot for the 5K and buy a little plastic tiara hair clip!

Okay - off to do some work!

This is us:

Kevin - Me and DD - Madison

OOOH, STARS! YES! I got stars!

Those were some awesome stars. Kudos on the no soda...I have been Fresca-Free for 3 days. Although I may have one today (shhhh...don't tell anyone, 'K?)

And you got it Pontiac with the "I am mostly tired". Tired want sweets. Tired wants fast carbs. Tired wants pop. Tired needs to get some sleep and some Lyz time.

It's a vicious cycle. The more fatigued you become, the more your body craves those "quick fixes"....then you crash & burn again...:sad2: I think a lot of us are prone to that right after the holidays. You spend so much time on warp speed, making sure everything is *just right* for everyone else...then once it's over - BOOM. You're done. Just exhausted physically & mentally. You need a little R & R....a few good nights sleep and some mental breaks.

That fan fic is so funny...

ok. At the risk of asking a stupid question....what are you talking about? :confused3

You so can do this. Not because you want to be a runner but because you want to feel alive and an inner pride that no one can even describe to you.

That's it. exactly. :lovestruc

I have a really hard time losing weight when I am distance training. Like, my body feels the need to hold on to every single calorie I put into it because it knows it is going to need the fuel for all of the running.

I'm glad Lisa/PR addressed this. I am exactly the same way. And I *can't* keep myself "race-ready". Just simply can't. My body doesn't do well with all the continuous running. Back issues, foot issues, hip flexor (sorry about yours Lisa! :headache: ). I must break it up and do the cycling, or I'd be in PT my whole life :sad2:

Not to mention that I am easily bored and just simply need a change of pace :rolleyes1

Baylor's 13th Birthday today

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BAYLOR!

I understand the "feeling old" thing - my baby was 13 back in November. Still can't phathom that. my BABY.

I love to prove people wrong. DH once said I couldn't fit a full snack pack of Oreo cookies in my mouth. Ha, did he look stupid when I did. :lmao:

ummm. wait. WHO looked stupid? :rotfl2:

I'd say it all counts...

Slow Start this morning. Stomach is NOT feeling good this morning. I am pretty sure alot of it is nerves (which is totally ridiculous, I know).

Not ridiculous at all. You are trained, you are ready. Keep yourself hydrated. You can do this. I am SO proud of you.

This is for you, Kelly....

:rotfl2: Bummocks!

Couch to cross trainer CSI exercise plan, LOVE IT!!!

I can't wait! Get fit while watching Flack :cool1:

And, umm, what's a bogie?

I believe you would call them.....Boogers! :rotfl2: (Thank you Google!)

ummm. wait. WHO looked stupid? :rotfl2:

Definitely DH. Me, well I looked awesome :rotfl2:
