I was clocked going 56 mph. in a 50 mph. zone.

That little escapade cost me $105 plus 4 hours of traffic school. I thought that was a little harsh, but oh well. The sad thing is that in over 20 years of driving, that's only my second speeding ticket. I was hoping to get let off with a warning, but no dice. I thought that the cop was kind of a jerk too. He acted like I was going 100 mph., not 56. It was on a lonely country road no less. I guess I'll have to be more careful from now on.

That stinks! The officer must have been having a bad day. I caught myself doing 50 today in the very tail end of a 35.:o I felt bad and immediately got down to speed, which by then, meant I wa doing 35 in a 55!

The ticket sounds way pricey and I can't believe you have to go to traffic school, too!

Pam

On a country road...... yikes! I specifically take those roads for that reason.

Sorry to hear of it.

I admire your contrite attitude! Really, though, I don't think you need traffic school for such a minor infraction. Around here though, it's more like 200 dollars for a speeding ticket.

I hope by that statement that you mean you'll be more careful about speeding for SAFETY reasons, and not tha you'll be more careful so that you don't get caught!

We're trying to teach our DD (new driver) that she should not be speeding because it's dangerous for herself and others, and NOT because she might get stopped by a cop.

Drive safely -- for ALL of our benefit...;)

Uhhhh. . while technically an infraction, I don't think going 6 miles over the speed limit in a rural area is necessarily "unsafe". . . it would depend on the road conditions- was it rainy, icy. . how much traffic?

Generally a police officer will let you slide if your doing less then 10 over on the interstate or rural hiway with little traffic. . but some small towns depend on revenue from traffic tickets, and also some places have "quotas" for thier officers.. .

I'm certainly not condoning speeding; but I doubt there is a driver in the world who hasn't done it at some point, and I agree the fine and school seem overly harsh for what you did. . :(

We need to teach our children by example. So, what do we tell them, that it's OK if you don't get caught and that the speed limits are set for no reason?

Do the phrases a "little drunk" or a "little pregnant" ring a bell?? You either follow the law or not -- no matter if you're on a rural road or a super highway.;)

56???? Sounds to me like he needed to meet a quota.

I certainly hope you don't get points for that! If you do, you should fight it. Pay the fine, but plead to something that lets you off for no points.

Tthe police officers in our area regularly travel up our 25 mph streets at 40 mph for no apparent reason with no lights on. I see it everywhere. They fly up the speed lane on the turnpike, cutting people off to get home for the day.

Scares me to death.

What kind of example are THEY setting.

I have been nailed for doing 8 miles over the speed limit before. I guess I felt that since I had broken the law (regardless of whether it was a "minor" infraction) it was reasonable for the officer to write me up for it. Its the risk you take when you speed, even if you don't speed much.

Is that so????

I hate it around here when posters "lump" DISers into categories like..............HEHers, Cannibals, Speeders, etc.

Some of us are law-abiding citizens who would NEVER exceed the speed limit.

Thank you:mad:

Ummmmm, aren't you the same person who's quick to lump a whole mass of DIS'ers into that same HEH club???

And I'm not buying that you've never in your life broken a speed limit -- unless, that is, you've spent your life on public transportation.

EROS, ya know I love ya but I don't believe you on this one!!!!

As for speeding......me???? Ummmm no comment is the safest answer...or I plead the 5th would work too!

I have my own personal rule about speeding, I try to stay within 1.5x the speed limit.. not always succesful but I do TRY!!

I did have the choice of paying $75 and pleading guilty, but then it goes on my record and my insurance rates would go up. If I pay the $105 and go to traffic school it stays off my record and doesn't get reported to my insurance company. Either way, it's not pleasant, but my husband would rather not pay higher premiums.

Just to clear things up, yes, I was going 6 miles over the speed limit, but in my defense, I had just come down a hill. I didn't realize that I had picked up that much speed. It is a very rural area with very little traffic. But, in the eyes of the law, I was wrong and therefore I must pay the price, steep as it is.

Willy, it was overcast, but the roads were dry and it was about 8:00 in the morning. I do agree with you, though, I hardly think there is anyone who hasn't gone a few miles over the speed limit accidentally at one time or another.

I know othis is aggravating. My dh got a ticket once right outside Dickson, TN. He was going 70 in a 65 zone. Cost him $175 and that was 15 years ago. They're pretty safe giving an out of state person a ticket like that because they won't fight it.

You might consider fighting it. How do you know if his radar detector has been calibrated correctly. Are you sure you were speeding?

So, you were on this back country road, on the way down a hill and the cop pulled you over for going 6 miles above the speed limit.

That's nuts.

Come to boston and try to drive the speed limit up route 3 when it is busy.. I dare you :)

I think its pretty sorry you got a ticket for going only 6 mph over the speed limit. Here they usually give you 10 also before they give you a ticket. I have on more than 1 occasion taken the DD classes. Wonder if I could get some Frequent Flyer miles for them??;)
