I'm nothing more than a common criminal...

You know come to think of it, here near Philly, they wouldn't even bother to pull you over for a warning at just six miles.

LOL, Alex--The PA turnpike will kill you if you travel anywhere near the speed limit at rush hour. People are flying at around 75 to 80 mph.

I'm with alex 1.5 seams like a nice conservative number.

Oh and CRB is right on, stay off the trunpike you want to drive the speed limit, you will get run over.

I'm so sorry--tickets are a real bummer I'm sure. I've been lucky enough to avoid one (not that I haven't deserved one many times) so far, but that has a lot to do with living in the metro Atlanta area. Around here, you will get blown off the road if you try to drive the speed limit. Most people go around 15 mph over the limit, so I try to do 10 mph over myself. At least it won't raise your premiums though.

Sorry that you got a ticket on a country road. I live in a rural area and see many people going much faster than 6 over the limit. I have gotten a speeding ticket myself:( (darn old Indiana cops) but I was speeding so I paid it and went on with life.

One other thing, in all my years on F.D. I have yet to cut somebody out of a wreck who was going "too SLOW for conditions". It helps remind me to slow down .

It must have been "speeding day." When I was going pick DS up from school about 4:30, I passed about 6 or 7 policemen headed to set up to catch everyone coming home from work. They work in a pack all the time. And I know right where they set up...on the other side of the overpass as everyone is going down the hill. I avoided that route home. :teeth: I had 2 speeding tickets when I had my Camaro...a magnet! I was glad to get rid of it! :) And when I was in traffic school there was a lady who got a ticket for going 3 miles over the speed limit! I was under 10. I also learned that in FL you MUST STOP at a YELLOW light!

Since I am from the Chicago area, and grew up in the NW burbs, can you give us a little better idea of where this happened???

We're trying to teach our DD (new driver) that she should not be speeding because it's dangerous for herself and others, and NOT because she might get stopped by a cop.

While I definitely think this is true, the most importnat thing is keeping everyone safe, I will admit when I was a teen learing to drive, the "safety" thing wasnt what I was afraid of. I think a lot of teens(not all;) ) feel they are invinceable, and they wont be the ones to get killed. However, I was petrified of getting pulled over or worse...actually getting a ticket. Then I would have been killed...by my parents, LOL! I think whatever works to make them not speed is worth teaching.

And for the record, Ive been pulled over 3 times in almost 15 years of driving, but never given a ticket or even a written warning. ;)

Doctor P, I was pulled over on the back country roads between Prairie Grove and Volo. It's the shortcut between Routes 176 and 120. The name of the street was Dowell, if you know where that is.

Somehow I thought that was probably the generally area (not street or even particular town) that you were pulled over--there a more than a few towns up there that are notorious for pulling people over (but only people from out of town!)

REALLY??? I've never heard of that one! A blinking yellow light or solid (I've never even seen a solid one...)

oh Jill.. you naughty...naughty girl!!

Barry swears he stopped at the light before turning right.. looked the sherriff dead in the eye..next to him in L. lane... Sherriff followed him, pulled him over and gave him a failure to stop ticket.
$340... Barry wanted to fight it.. even went out and took pictures of the intersection. He ended up paying the ticket and will be attending traffic school.. I was afraid if he lost in court that our insurance would go even higher.. and Lord knows we pay way too much now due to his past accidents.

I, too, grew up in a very rural area where people flew down our gravel road.... 6 mile over the speed limit is not flying... so I shall not admonish you dearie...
Pick a fun traffic school... maybe they will even give you some Pizza!

That is terrible! I am shocked that they’d give you a ticket for that. I too always thought that they normally wouldn’t issue a ticket for less than 10 over. Although the last time I got a ticket the officer told me he only had leeway up to 5 miles over the limit. I think around here it’s more dangerous to go under or at the limit, because someone might shoot you! I have to be very careful these days since I’ve received two speeding tickets in the last two years (after never getting one in 20 years). When I go the speed limit people tailgate me and look at me as if I’m completely insane as they pass me. You just can’t win.

I think I would go to court for this one. Six miles over the speed limit - it could have been the radar gun, literally.
