I'm not good at diagnosing flu vs. cold vs. swine flu

DS and I both had some flu 2 weeks ago. It has really hit hard around town. It seemed to hit us quickly. We did the autism walk-a-thon in the morning and by the afternoon, ds had a 102 fever, aches, chills, and couldn't get out of bed. The hacking cough started the next morning. By day 3, he would get out of bed for short periods of time. By day 4, he was feeling better but still had bouts of exhaustion and a hacking cough.

I ended up catching the flu from ds and seemed to bounce back after a few days. We both had the regular flu vaccine about 2weeks before getting the flu, so maybe that helped us bounce back quicker.

OP here - I'd like to know this too! Anybody?

If you actually get H1N1 this time around (and it is not "something else" - it is hard to tell) - then you should not get H1N1 again. You should have immunity from the first time you had it.

But the CDC is recommending everyone get the vaccine (if you are in the high risk group for now) even if you think you had it. Because you may have it...or it may have been another illness.

However, later this year and early in 2010 - the "seasonal" flu should start going around. Then it seems like it will be harder to tell which flu you have. :confused3
