Hi all,
we too are going and using the dinning plan this year.This is our second time using it.Last year we went and used it also,one point i wanted to make is that last year how many people were turned away form places because they did not have adr's.So if your going please make adr's people, i mean it.We watched as over and over again,while waiting for our tables to be ready how familys were turned away because noone had adr's.I don't mean large groups,we saw familys of 3 and 4 being turned away because they did not have adr's.So if your going for the dinning plan make adr's people,otherwise you run the risk of being turned away.

I will be using it with my DW in October. What else can you tell me about the plan. What was your experience last year? I guess it worked out well since you are doing it again.

We saw this last December too. People were really angry.... guess they thought they could just walk in anywhere at dinner time and eat where they wanted. Not anymore!

Planning ahead is crucial!

I'm so glad that me and BF are much happier just eating at the CS places (and therefore do not do the DP).

PS/ADR's are so crucial.

During our March trip we were able to make a couple same day ADRs (Boma, Liberty Tree Tavern) but had problems booking a second last minute night at Ohana's. We ate there our first night and decided we wanted to return during our second week.

They were completely booked every night until after 9:00 pm! DH said no way was he eating THAT much food after 9:00 pm!

Now the CMs are told to just call it 'reservations.' But it would look dumb to write 'R' so I keep writing 'ADRs' in my posts =)

LOL, this is my 11,000th post and I didn't know what it stood for either. Now, I haven't hung out on the restaurant board for a few years (haven't been to WDW in over a year). But, I always knew them to be called PS's. Apparently the acronym has changed.

I guess even us 'old dogs' can learn new tricks.

My question is, the whole reason I remember them being called PS is because they really were not a reservation, you were given 'priority' in seating, depending on the volume that day. I seem to remember CM's actually making that clear...that 'this is not a reservation". I am wondering if they actually treat this new type of pre-arrangement differently?

You can make an ADR the day of.

If you are going anytime during the free dining promotion, I would make ADRs for all table service meals ASAP.

If you're going any other time (and I mean ANY other time) I'd make ADRs for the places you are absolutely certain you want to eat, especially if they're popular and you're not interested in eating at off-peak times.

Even though the name changed from Priority Seating to Advance Dining Reservation, this is NOT a reservation. You're just put in line ahead of the walkins for the next table open that will fit your party. If you've had to give a credit card number to "guarantee" your ADR (there are certain restaurants where that is necessary) it operates a bit more like a traditional reservation.

Thanks. I actually like the idea of calling it reservations more. I don't know why, but for some reason 'reservations' sound more solid, set in stone.

We never had a very long wait with PSs either. Usually no more than 5 minutes.

From what I understand unless you have put down a credit card as a guarantee, they will not be holding a table open for you as would be the case with a traditional reservation. You will, however, continue to go to the head of the line over walkins, and if the restaurant is fully booked with ADR holders, there will be no room for walkins.

When we were there at the end of March, most of the more popular restaurants would not take walk ins. If you did not have a reservation, you couldn't get in.
