Just curious as to what make you finally decide to use one. We have 3 teen ds but their own lives are so busy enough. DS 19 is taking 18 credits, work pt on sat and then there is church on sun. etc. DS 17 who normally does the grass is now going to driving school on sat., needs to get back into his pt job but will probably find a better paying one and might go away to college next fall and ds 15 works most of the day on sat etc. My dh is up to the gazoo with work etc. So I was having a serious talk with dh about biting the bullet and getting a lawn service. Life just seems so complicated lately and never enough hours in the day. Just wondering what finally made you say yes.

Several reasons I use a lawn service

My husband is lazy and doesn't want to do the yardwork (he'll tell you that himself).

We don't have a shed...so no where to store gas for a mower.

I work full time and commute long distances.

I have asthma that is triggered by allergies...one of my worst allergies is to cut grass.

For $40 a week, I can spend the time I would be cutting my lawn with my family.

I can say that my husband is also lazy and doesn't want to cut the grass...
It is way too hot in Florida to do that....
Our yard is a half acre...
My boy is only 5 years old, so I can't have him do the yard :)
We pay $40 per cut, usually every ten days...so it is not that expensive for us to have someone work on the yard.

We moved to Orlando from Indiana. ;-)
DD had a yard service already -- many years ago she said she was cutting her own grass and one summer nearly "died" -- she said she got so hot she had to go in the house and lay down on the tile floor.
DH doesn't have the time to do it with his current job, no way in heck I'm mowing the yard in this heat.
Yard services are *wonderful*. I think we're paying approximately $75 a month -- summer months he comes more often than once a week, winter it grass growth calms down some.

When we first closed on the home we currently live in, it was a vacation home, and the lawn still needed to be cared for even though we weren't there most of the time.

Now we live in it f/t, but DH travels with his job, and DS and I both have terrible allergies, so we continued to use the lawn service.

I imagine we'll use one forever, because we're now talking about buying a property in Lake Placid, NY to use as a vacation home now and a summer home when we retire, and someone will need to take care of things. I imagine we'll use a service up north as well if and when we get to that point.

What made me decide to use a lawn service??? I HATE yard work! Been paying for someone else to do it for YEARS. I am a working single mom. Many years ago my mom lived with me and she LOVED cutting the grass. I would start the mower for her before I left for work. She has dementia and got to the point where she could no longer handle this task (even though she wanted to). That was the beginning of lawn service. A very short time later, I had my first spinal surgery......that guaranteed the lawn service for life!

We decided to get a lawn service when DS left for college. It had been his job for at least the last 6 years before he left. Boy was he mad!

Got tired of the work.

It kicked my allergies into high gear.

I don't have a proper shed or garage, and since I live in Michigan, the weather played havoc on my mower(s).

Found a guy to do it for $17 a cut - and they edge the lawn and weed whack too. Can't go wrong there. Come home from work and the "home" work (outside anyways!) is done :woohoo:

I can not describe the feeling of comming home and the work is already done. I hate yard work with a passion. For me the $40 every 10 days is well worth not eating out more often. It also has been an incredibly hot summer here in FL.

We used one for one summer when we were both working, I was going to MBA school nights and we had an infant as well. It was nice to free up weekends and precious other free time to spend it with my family.

Once my time freed up a little more, we dropped it. I actually kind of like taking care of the lawn. :) We do, however, have a landscaper for all other major stuff, including Spring and Fall cleanup and mulching. :)

We'd need to own a riding mower, which are expensive & huge. We'd have no place to store it. It wouldn't be easy to mow a wet lawn--DH claims it'd be impossible without a riding mower, but he could just be saying that to get out of doing the work. :rotfl:

We got lucky & found someone who does it every week during the summer months, then every other week or so in the winter, for $75/mo. We have a particular species of grass called Bahia, which goes dormant in the winter but grows like crazy when the summer rains start, so he's kept very busy once that happens!

We have a lawn service since DH doesn't like to be outside and doesn't like to mow or anything else. Our yard is too big for me to keep up with the weeding and the mowing. The guys we have do it are AWESOME! :thumbsup2 In fact, I was out this morning and came home to a freshly mowed lawn - love it! :)

DH likes doing yard work, and he still does the yard inside the fence (where there is no grass to mow), but we have the service do the mowing front and back. It was a chore that took him away from us every Saturday morning when we looked forward to him not having to leave for work. So now he gets to spend that time with us.

I agree with its way to hot, there is no skipping a week as the thing turns into a jungle in a few days but the main reason is i can think of a million other ways to spend my weekend then working on the lawn...

I have asthma that is triggered by allergies...one of my worst allergies is to cut grass.

We don't own a home, yet. But when we do, I also want a lawn service as well b/c of the same reasons you stated above. DH has asthma and I'm allergic to cut grass due to my hay fever :headache:.

Sort of, my 18 yo son owns a lawn service and he takes care of our lawn. We don't pay him though, LOL

My son thanks you all for using a lawn service!!;)

Just curious as to what make you finally decide to use one. QUOTE]

We didn't "finally" decide to use one....we've used one from the very beginning. In FL, if you have much yard at all, it's not worth the time you must give up each week to do your own yard. If finances ever posed a problem, I'd give up many things before doing away with yard service.

Do your lawn services take care of weed eating. My yard is out of hand with weeds. How much do you think they'd charge to clean it up? I have a little over an acre. I'm going to make excuses for myself...I don't have the time...and really I don't.

While both dh and I enjoy gardening and playing around the yard neither of us wants to mow and edge 5 acres. Way too time consuming for us.
