If you never book in the 11 month window

does it really matter which resort you buy? We typically like to stay at AKV and we have points at both AKV and SSR. We are looking to add more points but are not sure if we should try for AKV, or buy SSR because they are cheaper? We don't know that we want anything other than those two resorts because of the contact length.

I think one time in the 9 years we have been members we have booked 11 months out.

If you never ever book between 11-7 months (so not just 11 months), then I guess it probably doesn't matter since you're not using your home resort advantage in any case. If you are always at 7 months or less, no, it doesn't matter.

We don't currently book much at 11 months either because it just doesn't suit our current vacation planning. We knew that going in, but,

never is a long time. ;)

Just remember the booking rules may change in the future. It is pretty likely that the rules will change at some point in the next 30-40 years.

In that case, home resort still matters for two reasons: initial buy-in, and annual dues.

Going strictly by those criteria, either SSR or OKW would be less expensive than AKV.

"May change" and "pretty likely" are very different concepts.

If you're assuming something will change just because it can, remember what happens when we ***-u-me.

Dunno if this makes a huge difference to you but also remember the properties all have different end dates. (For example AKV is 2057)

With AKV and SSR I don't think it matters in your case but I wouldn't buy VB or HHI as they may be sold of in the future.

How many points do you have at each resort? Are they even split? If not, I would add on to the one that you have the most points in.

I would personally buy additional points at one of the resorts I already own. Even with banking and or borrowing, sometimes I want to book more than two studios/1BDR, etc. - and I then wish I had the points all or more at one resort. I can't book all the rooms in one place because of this and have to go on a waitlist. Just something to consider for the future.

Good luck and keep us posted!

As noted above, it depends. I don't know how many points you own or what your plans are to use them and that would make a difference for recommendations. Assuming you have a large enough chunk at AKV to be useful for a given trip and enough points at SSR to act as a points cow, I'd consider a different home resort. Maybe BWV or BLT or even HH/VB would give you something you don't have now or you might wait for the rumored GF DVC option. HI is worth considering if you think you'll go periodically. Or you might consider a different direction and add another timeshare option for non DVC trips. Give us more specifics and I think we can give you better suggestions.

We talked a lot about it last night and think that we will go after AKV points because that is the place we like to stay most. And like some have said, rules can change and the way we vacation could change as well.

We own 175 AKV points and 250 SSR points.

Happy to read you came to a decision - now the big question, lol, how many points are you thinking of buying? Let us Congratulate you when you do add-on.

So if you are a new member buying in, and never book within the 11 month window. Why wouldn't you buy from hh or vb? It's so much cheaper!

Dues are much higher and if you want to use the points mainly for WDW - you might only be able to stay at that resort someday if Disney ever decides to change the rules, etc.

Initially, it might be, but the MF's will eat up the savings in a short time. Plus, owning outside of WDW with the intention of staying there prevents your from EVER booking before the 7 month mark.

While it is not something that you may do now or forsee doing in the short term, there could come a time or a trip where you are ready to book and won't be able to.

If your goal is to go to WDW, then its best to buy at WDW.

We are thinking between 120-160....so we are looking for a good contract!

The Resorts have different End Dates, you need to think about as well, and your annual fees.
