Regarding water and sunscreen:
We lather up the sunscreen before we head out. We take midday breaks since we go in August. So sunscreen is fine on us.
As for the water, we get it free at CS or just buy a bottle.
And with ponchos....we don't really worry about it too much. If we get wet we get wet. We do take 99C ones from Walmart with us. In two August trips we've been lucky that it has rained during our midday breaks for very short periods.

.. Here I use a side bag very small.
You know many of the stores sell pain relievers. I just can't live my life worrying about needing an aspirin or a band aid.
For those that carry a bag, great. No hating on you. I have a friend that lives by the boy scout rule and has everything under the sun ready for "in case". It def works for some people.
