I want to buy the Nikon D40

That's no excuse, we're visiting my parent's condo on our next trip to Florida, which is in Cape Coral, ~3 hours or so from WDW, and we'll actually be at WDW more than the condo. :rotfl2:

I'm actually leaving the husband and kids at home, otherwise if my husband was going with me I'd probably try and talk him into going. ;)

What about the SB400 flash?

Alright I finally ordered it! I just can't think about it anymore, so I just ordered it. I got it with the 18-135 lens from B and H. I had them ship it 3-5 days UPS, since it's only coming from NY, I should have it early next week. :thumbsup2 I'll post some pictures when I get it. Thanks everyone for your great advice.

Excellent!!

I too think your really going to like that 18-135mm lens. I've used both the 18-70 and 18-135. I found the 18-135 to be a bit sharper and the extra focal range is a HUGE difference.

Next up the 70-300 VR. Another great lens and also very sharp. After that the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 and that should pretty much cover you unless you want to get into Macro.

As for the flash. The pop up flash on the camera will do,,,, for now. Be sure when you use the on camera flash to take the lens hood off the lens. Other wise you'll get a shadow on the bottom of your images.

I have the SB-600 and love it. Combine that with a Gary Fong diffuser and I get outstanding flash images.

Happy shooting.

Looking forward to seeing your pictures.

FANTASTIC! Congrats... you will LOVE your new Nikon! And, I think the decision to get at least the 18-135mm lens was a great decision for your shooting needs at Disney.

Please post some pics after you return! Oh... that means you will have to purchase some new photo editing software, or a larger hard drive that you'll need now with the larger .jpeg files (or heaven help you if you decide to begin shooting RAW files (called .NEF's in Nikon)!

NAS strikes again!!!

I have not tried the D300 with that yet- but I can hardly immagine it would be better than the SB-800. I have been trying to justify some Pocket Wizards but just cant talk myself into spending the cash.

Keep and eye out for these, Radio Poppers. I am not sure when they are coming out, but I hope it is soon and I hope I can get them. Wireless TTL....(where is the drool smiley??)

Sorry to be mucking up your thread so, CONGRATS AGAIN!!! :)

I think the main drawback of the 400 is the inability to rotate so you cannot bounce the flash in portrait orientation.

I will second the love for the Gary Fong- for $30 or so it does a great job as a flash diffuser.

Ok, so I looked at the link and can honestly say, what is that thing for? :rotfl:

One of the more creative things a dslr system can do is to control flash units remotely. These units enhance that ability. You can find some interesting reading on this at the Strobist. :cool2:

These units are also the first to use TTL metering, or i-TTL with Nikon Speedlights and CLS (3rd party anyways, Nikon does it now with some cameras, not the D40. Not sure if Canon has an equivalent).....big time technology stuff going on there.....

The camera's here! The camera's here! :cool1: :cheer2:  I can't believe I got it already!

WooHoo!!! I guess we all know what YOU will be doing this weekend! Please be sure and post some of the results!

Oh, and kudos to B&H for the great service. That's why they are the best of the best.

I'm having some problems with PictureProject. I uploaded it and then I let it import my pictures from Zoombrowser. I then imported some new pictures that I took with the camera, but they don't seem to be anywhere? They're not in PictureProject and not in my Corel either. PP won't let me try and edit any of my old pictures either, the computer keeps saying that PP has stopped working and must shut down. Oops, I wonder if I screwed something up when I installed the CD of PP?

Edited to add:

If I want to view pictures on a tv do I need a special video cord made by Nikon?
