I want to buy the Nikon D40

Order online from B&H; they are reputable. No tax. Pay for next day shipping. You will find that the 18-55 is not a long enough lens.

Or select UPS Two Day Air, for about half what Next Day runs. You are probably close enough to get it in a couple days via ground anyway. I think B&H closes at noon on Friday, so unless you were to order in time for it to ship today (you might want to place order by phone to get a delivery commitment) it might not ship til next week. Of course, this assumes that you order from B&H and not buy online. I agree with what DSF said above about the 18-135 over the 18-55, though.

Alright I finally ordered it! I just can't think about it anymore, so I just ordered it. I got it with the 18-135 lens from B and H. I had them ship it 3-5 days UPS, since it's only coming from NY, I should have it early next week. :thumbsup2 I'll post some pictures when I get it. Thanks everyone for your great advice.

Great, I'm sure you're going to really enjoy this combo!! I love my Nikon (I have the D70) but am lusting after the D300, and a bunch of lenses. See, it never ends.

If you want more info about your camera or anything Nikon, stop over to the Nikonians.org, they are a great bunch of people with answers to about anything (except, of course, how I can afford every Nikon product that I now want...)

FYI, I love your cat pictures in your signature, I'll be looking forward to some more pictures of them when you get time to play with your new camera.

Thank you, but I was actually already a member of the NAS family for the last 30 years, I had just slipped to the dark side with purchases of a Minolta and two Canon's in between my last Nikon purchase. :lmao: I'm just kidding, I really liked those camera's, except for my Canon SD450, that camera stinks. Sorry Canon.

::yes:: Me too! But I just bought my D80 in October, so I'll have to suck it up a bit longer and live with the shortcomings of my D80 vs. D300.:lmao: (JK)

Welcome back to the world of NAS!:cool1: I had a Minolta SLR (I still have it), a Pentax auto film camera which name escapes me (somewhere in storage), an OlyC770 4mp 1st digital (terrible shutter lag & pics), Panasonic Lumix TZ3 P&S (very good pics for a compact P&S) and finally my Nikon D80. I still actually have all the cameras. :scared1: My DH says he's never known anyone to have as many cameras as me.:rotfl: Luckily he has a good sense of humor.
Thank goodness I found the D80 and Nikon. Can you tell I was searching :confused3 for the right camera/brand to invest in??? I am very happy with the D80, and I'm sure you'll love your D40 as well! Post some pics when you get it!:woohoo:

Congrats on your purchase. I'm confident that you will be 100% happy with your decision. You mentioned an upcoming trip to F-L-A. Did you really mean W-D-W? Either way, what a great time to get a new camera!

It's pictures like this that convinced me that I wanted a D SLR. My husband's family has a reunion about every five years and this is the best picture I have from it. It was taken with my Canon SD450. Check out those eyes!!!!!!!!!! :scared1:  :scared1:

Don't I wish! ;) I'm going down to visit the parental units in Naples, FL, but there is a zoo within a few miles of their condo, so I want to try out the camera there. :thumbsup2

There's a nice Nahtazu just up the road a bit, near Orlando...

Sounds like your next purchase may be an SB-600. ;)

Or and SB-800 (for twice the money, but it is worth it)......personally, if you get either of these they are great. I have an 800 since I wanted to do some off camera flash. Right now I use Catctus V2s wireless triggers, but in a week or so, I will get 1 or 2 SB-600's and use my 800 as a commander.

If only their condo was about an hour outside of Disney instead of three hours, I may have been able to pull it off. ;)
That's no excuse, we're visiting my parent's condo on our next trip to Florida, which is in Cape Coral, ~3 hours or so from WDW, and we'll actually be at WDW more than the condo. :rotfl2:

I have 1 SB-800 and 2 SB-600's - the trouble I have with the commander mode is the range. I was pretty disapointed I would say they only communicate up to about 20-30 feet. What kind of range do you get with the triggers?

I have only used them a couple of times, and they were no farther the 5-10 feet. What is the range of your D300 in Command mode? Also the tiggers do not give me full TTL, so I am spending a lot of the time learning....

I have not tried the D300 with that yet- but I can hardly immagine it would be better than the SB-800. I have been trying to justify some Pocket Wizards but just cant talk myself into spending the cash.
