I need some advice, serious problem (update 05/05/09)

It came right out of my checking account unfortunately. Do you think the bank might have something to offer?
Given you canceled the specific reservation I'm doubting you have much recourse. I would call and discuss with a supervisor at DVC and see where it leads. At some point you have to decide when to give up and move on as it's unlikely you'll be able to get anything back. I think the most you can hope for is to get a rescheduled reservation and that's looking slim at this point. I hope it works out and please let us know of any other developments.

Just jumping on because I believe I am dealing with the same person and getting no response from them as well. I paid in full and now would like to add DDP to the ressie and am hearing NOTHING from them, several phone calls and emails later and nothing is being returned. I am calling the resort directly to see about the reservation tomorrow and if it is not there I need to figure out what else to do. Here's hopin' we both get our $.

I don't believe the resort will show the ressie until a few days prior to arrival. They will just transfer you to DVC, who of course won't talk to you.

This is an example of exactly why unscrupulous renters should be reported to DVC. (I am not saying that the person in this KatGarcia's case falls in that category, as we've only seen a brief snaptshot of one side of the story.) If they hurt one person, and get away with it, they will most likely do it again.

Please PM OP and see if, in fact, this is the same person...and let us know here.

Also, if you PM me with the true name of the person(s), I can let you know if they are the crook who ripped folks off a year ago.

I talked to Kathy (KatGarcia) this morning. Yes, it's the same man. Jim, I will PM you his name right now.

PS-I do have a certified letter all ready to go after I input in some dates. Woop-de-doo, huh? I know it won't help. But at least I'll know he received it. I'll pay the six bucks or whatever that fee is to send it.

FYI: This "bad apple" can't be the same "bad apple" as in the last rip-off case/thread...(Sad Story from One Who Trusted Too Much)...I'm the OP of that thread, and my "bad actor" was a woman..."yours" is a man, so can't be the same person...

I surely do sympathize...having "been there/done that" I know how "not fun" it is...JimMIA was WONDERFUL to me then, and looks like he's being his wonderful self for you now...you couldn't have a better advisor! Go get 'em, JimMIA!!!

Here's some pixie dust that you both will get your vacations...

:( I'm sad that you lost your vacation as well. $1000 is ALOT of money to me. I saved that forever. Could the woman be his wife perhaps? Was she married? I did send both names to Jim.

Well, hopefully Member Services can track down any reservations made by the member in question and provide feedback as to the legitimacy of them.

Kelli/Kathy -- Have you been able to compare dates to see if they were both new reservations, or the possibility that Kathy's reservation was the result of Kelli's being cancelled? I'm only asking because if the points were "re-rented" that's even more of an indication that OP should have received her money back.

This is NOT the same person who ripped off people last year. Now that I have the name, I know that. I read that the person was a man, but I was starting to wonder if Aunt E had a nephew!

Well we tried again to no avail with DVC. All I want to know is if our reservation exists and they won't tell us nor will they get us a supervisor who might be able to help us.

The rest of my story is this: we rented point back in June, paid 60% got a contract. They about a month later got the confirm papers from them and were asked to pay the balance. We paid in full. I emailed about adding the DDP and was told by them that we can add it when we get there (this is a red flag to me now that i know better) and that was the last email I received (in around October). We just wanted to add ME & DDP and haven't heard anything. I emailed 4 times since then. We called at least 4 times in the last week. Today we called again, left msgs on a cell and a house #. My husband got thru yesterday and someone answered and said no one was home and they didn't know when to call back. Thats the closest we got. I found a work # as well but my husband is trying to hold off on calling his place of work-for now.

I am worried that there is no reservation anymore and no one can tell me if there is or there isn't. If it exists i am happy, if it does not our 3rd wedding anniv trip is ruined and I have to hope for a room somewhere else in Disney.

I find it funny that the same person is not contacting 2 people that they rented points to. it makes me feel very bad that they won't just at least email or something. This is a man with 3 kids and I don't want to think that they are taking us for the $, I really don't. I looked them up on google and they were easy to find I know where he works and what his leisure activities are even. I have no problem getting him in as much trouble as possible if they canceled the reservation on us and stole money from me as well as the OP.

So now what? Any suggestions???

I may be naive, but as an outsider I suppose that I still think that some type of personal tragedy may have happened such as a death in the family. Sadly, it does happen, and if any of us were to pass on, would our families know about a DVC rental to a stranger?

I know that my family would not, nor would they know to access my email, or to 'find' me online.

I hope that it does work out for everyone in the end, and I do hope that the DVC owner and his family has not had any major incidents which have led to this situation.

OMG - the things you and the OP are going through!!! :grouphug:

I hope things work out but it's sounding worse and worse. His only excuse now is a major tragedy and I wouldn't wish that on anybody.

After reading your post, all I can say if he IS messing with the 2 of you, "DON'T MESS WITH A NYer!!!" :scared1: ;)

When do you actually check in to BWV? At this point the only thing you can do is call the resort a few days before and see if they have your resv on file. Perhaps you can also email the resort and request that DDP be added to the resv -- they may or may not do it since the original transaction was done thru member services. But I'm thinking there's a chance they may since it's something you have to pay for at check-in.

he called back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got a call back from his cell phone #- so Kelli if you don't have that PM and and i'll get it to you ASAP.

he spoke to my husband and he said his wife will call and add the DDP and ME for us this weekend. Once I get confirmation of that I';ll feel better. he said his cell phone was stolen. I don't care what happened as long as i hear from him and get what I need.

I'm not relaxed about it yet but it is hopeful.

Would adding DDP & ME generate a new confirmation letter, or would it just be an addendum to the reservation? You may still not have any tangible proof that the request was processed until you receive ME documents in the mail. I truly do hope this works out for you (and Kelli!).

If they set up DDP, that should generate an updated confirmation. Keep in mind that a confirmation takes 2-3 weeks, and we sometimes hear reports of confirmations not being being received at all. (I'm talking about not received at all by the owner.)

Regardless of whether you receive a confirmation, you might be able to get a back-door confirmation by calling Disney Dining. I'm not sure of that, because your DDP might only be in the DVC computers, but it's worth a try. I'd call early next week and see if they can tell you anything. The same might be true of DME.

FWIW, the lost cellphone sounds like "The dog ate my homework" to me. He lost his cellphone and therefore can't respond to emails or calls to his home number? Please!

Just being Devil's Advocate here. He may have had the cell phone stolen. His e-mail address and home number are linked to the cell phone and totally changed providers on his service. ??

I left another message on their home answering machine. I'll also try the cell later. I doubt he'll actually talk to me though!

I would call him until he actually hated to hear the phone ring. We have a saying, "The squealing wheel gets the grease." I would send the Certified letter too. You have to ask yourself, why is he making another rental, when he hasn't settled with you yet?
