I need a hug.

Doctors are supposed to be supportive. That was not cool! Start asking around to your friends for some recommendations of good, caring professionals.

And 22 pounds is AWESOME. You rock!!

22lbs. really is awesome! That is like shaving 88 sticks of butter off of you!! Keep it up and I totally agree you need a new doctor!!

Or over 4 bags of flour. (When I lose weight I like to think in terms of flour bags.) I picture a bag of flour attached to me and it's really motivating.:thumbsup2

She weighs 100 pounds soaking wet? And she has a witch attitude?
Man, I'd send her a big mac for Christmas. ;)

I don't put much stock into BMI. I'm 5'2" and while I'm not going to say how much I weigh, let's just say it's above "normal." I truly do have a large frame, though - when buying jackets/blazers, a men's size 42 fits my linebacker shoulders quite comfortably - I'm a size 10/12, have 19% body fat (a quick lookup says that normal for a woman age 30-39 is 21-29%), a 28" waist...low BP, cholesterol was 143 at last check...

And yet, I was denied healthcare coverage from one particular company which only looked at my height and weight, figured BMI, and declared that I was morbidly obese. If they want obese, they should have seen me when I was 225 pounds and a size 22 was tight... :sad2:

I lost 30lbs a few years back. My Dr. pulled the same deal on me trying to get me to my ideal weight. I was healthy and he should've left it alone. His words led to me falling off the wagon. DON'T let that happen to you! I shouldn't have listened. Hard not to sometimes, but you can do it.

I'm sorry to hear that your Dr made you feel bad. 22 pounds is a real accomplishment, dry those tears and be proud of yourself.

Your Dr was wrong (as your google search revealed). Your BMI is 29 which is on the upper side of overwheight, nearly obese but no where near morbidly obese. Shame on her. It is possible though that she made a mistake calculating the BMI. The truth does hurt. I think that people who are morbidly obese need to hear those words but in your case - NOT.

Anyway, all the literature that I have read lately says to encourage your patients to make a realistic weight loss goal. They say not to even recommend something like 50-100lbs because that just seems so insurmountable.

Apparently a weight loss of 10% makes a real difference to your health, and is a realistic goal for most people. So for you, losing 17 lbs would bring your BMI to 26 which is the lower end of overweight and very very close indeed to 'healthy'.

Cheer up girl, it is great that all your blood work is normal. Also remember that a waist measurement of over 35 inches is an indicator of increased risk for heart disease, so you can measure that and see what that is.

:grouphug:

I'd hate to hear what she tells patients who are over 200 lbs. You need a doctor who notices you have lost weight and encourages you to keep it up. Find a new doctore and don't look back!

 I hope you have great friend support. If not, it sounds like you've got support here. That lady does not deserve to be called a dr! Some people just do not get how hard it is being overweight. It is not an easy task to loose it. It is a complete life change. It sounds like you have a good handle on dropping those pounds. Don't let some insensitive person ruin your progress. Best wishes in your quest.

First, 22 pounds is awesome. That's about how much I've lost, and I know it's a big change.

Second, the doctor gave bad advice and displayed poor bedside manner.

what a way to encourage you...NOT! Get a new doctor, one that is not the tail end of the donkey:mad:

Hey, I know how you can lose 100 pounds or so REAL fast:

Fire your doctor!

haha I LOVE IT!!!:rotfl2::thumbsup2 DONE.

You guys are the best! My best friend came over with a bottle of wine, which is not on my diet, but did stop the pity party. ;) Luckily we both have to work tomorrow, so we did not get too crazy.

I feel much better, and I am definately making sure this Dr and her practice know that I am leaving and why.

How terrible. :grouphug: I would be just devastated to be spoken to like that. I think it just goes to show that an idiot is an idiot and no matter how educated they get or where they go, when you dig down an idiot will still be standing underneath.

I think your weight loss is something to be very proud of, don't let that hot mess of a Dr interfere with your relationship with yourself.

OP, as someone who has lost 190 pounds with the help of gastric bypass surgery (and kept it off for 5 years, thank goodness!) i can tell you i KNOW how difficult it is-i had dieted since i was 11 years old, but always gained it back. and i STILL have to diet, losing weight is NEVER easy, no matter how it's done. your doctor is a WITCH and i'd fire her and tell her exactly why. you're doing GREAT and don't let anyone tell you different!

A little story for you:
when i was about 6 months postop, i'd lost about 75 pounds and although i was still super morbidly obese (about 300 pounds), i was feeling pretty good about my weight loss. well, i had a thyroid spike and was referred to an endocrinologist (the only one in my town) and on my first visit with him he walked into the room, said my name, held out his hand (which i happily shook) and introduced himself. he proceeds to sit down in his chair and says "so, i see here you've lost 75 pounds." at which point i smiled, very proud of myself, and said "yes i have" and he looked me up and down and said "and you could stand to lose quite a bit more" WHAAATTT???? needless to say, i was so flabbergasted, all i could do was sit there with my mouth open. now bear in mind, this man looked and acted like charles emerson winchester III with a beer belly-he could've stood to lose 40-50 pounds himself! i never saw him again. i thoroughly believe that doctors should have to take a class in bedside manner before they're allowed to graduate medical school!

as i said, you've done GREAT and you should be very proud of yourself! i'm sorry to ramble on, but i hope my story made you feel better in some way.

OP, I wish I could lose the 22 lbs you've already lost! LOL That's AWESOME! You should be VERY proud of your accomplishment!! For the record, I'm the EXACT height you are, I weigh 142 and my BMI is 24, I AM in the healthy range, so there is NO way you are in the morbidly obese range. Sometimes I think Dr's say stupid things to try to motivate us to lose weight, sometimes they just say stupid things. :) Hang in there, keep up the awesome work and get down to where you want to be.....I have a very small frame so I'm shooting to lose the "extra" 20 lbs I'm carrying around with me. :) Of course I've been trying for a year now....:)

I echo the other posters - you need to get yourself a new doctor! I have been to scores of doctors for some "female issues", and let me tell you, I was shocked that some of those doctors still have patients! With the way some of them talk down to you and make you feel even worse, it's a wonder they still have patients.

 to you, and a job well done! 20 lbs is awesome!

:hug:Good job on the weight loss. I've lost quite a bit of weight and am an inch taller than you and 5 pounds heavier. My doctor gets excited every time he sees me. He tells me that my weight is fine and not to stress over it. Do yourself a favor and get a new doc!
