I love credit cards so much!

Have you been on the Dis wedding board? I'm pretty sure it's very active with helpful info.

Yeah, I lurked over there for years. I read every thread during a very boring summer internship one summer lol. I’ll probably post over there when I get some more ideas, I’m a little nervous.

I've spent all my spare time searching for biz class flights to SA for next May and have come up with zilch. First week of May is apparently a horrible time to fly to SA, who knew? Time to take a break I think and catch up on the happenings over here :)

The sign I needed a break? Looked for QR availability (to use AA miles) and couldn't find DOH-JNB/CPT flights but I could find DOH-SEZ (Seychelles) flights... seriously considered adding on a few days in the Seychelles to start off my trip and then came out of the award searching rabbit hole to realize #churningmath was getting waaaay too expensive :rotfl2:

Ugh, OT but I’m having wedding frustrations already! I want a dessert party. Apparently Disney doesn’t count the dessert party towards the food and beverage minimum required for weddings. I swore I saw reports that it does if it’s the same day as the reception. The main reception meal for what I want is 105ish a person. I don’t want to increase it to $165 by adding alcohol and pre-reception food for a lunch ceremony!! I want DESSERT and alcohol there! @amalone1013 help me lol also, apparently Disney weddings charge $6 for every glass of Soda???

Anyway, I’m now considering Disneyland. It seems cheaper. Since my family has to fly from the east coast my dad is asking what card he should get. He only wants one, but I’m pushing him to double dip. He also doesn’t seem comfortable with a business card. And grandma is basically saying I’ll give you my information and wants me to just apply for cards for her. Have I entered 3 player mode? My grandma has no clue when I talk about credit card stuff but always pays her bills. She has a Disney credit card and one through her credit union. She will need hand holding, but my dad is doing his own research and knows the difference between the CSP/CSR I just have to get him comfortable with a double dip. Hoping I get some referral bonuses soon.

How frustrating! I'm sorry I can't offer more help besides former-bride sympathy. I did try and find an answer on the Disney wedding page for you but no luck, as I'm sure you have access to more information than is up on the general page. Budgeting for weddings can be so difficult and opaque!

One of the upsides of not having our wedding at a wedding venue is that we got to totally customize everything - design the menu choices ourselves, pick out our own decor, tweak the layout for our needs, set up a few days ahead of time. That part was great. The downside was that it was at times total stressful chaos - like, where is the knife to cut the cake? Why isn't there any hot water in the building? Who is in charge here anyway?! (Oh, it's us. Oops.)

Also, you've sent me down a rabbit hole planning a vow renewal on the beach at the Poly in ten years with our future children. My DH thanks you ;)

Life has just been so hectic and this board moves so quickly, I am literally incapable of keeping up.

So, just found out DD 10 has to go ahead and start with braces. I thought i had more time than this :sad2:. So, in usual fashion, I'm trying to figure out how to maximize cc rewards.

Not working on any min spend right now. Just finished up citi aa biz. Wanting to hold back on any chase cards for time being and anything that would count towards 5/24.

So, another biz card. DH could do an app this time i suppose. Ortho charges for cc payments though. So, i could run through plastiq.

I could also just use plastiq with one of our CIP for 3x, it is thr CIP, right? I just hate paying the fee. I have a plastiq, i could refer DH and do $500 (pay the fee), then $500 (fee free), then i would get some fee free $ from his referral, right? Then pay the balance off of mine. So essentially, i could get 1k of the 3k fee free? Would that work?
No more CIP 3x on Plastiq. Definitely dead. RIP.

Wow...You really haven't been here for awhile. I'm super sorry to tell you but CIP 3x on Plastiq is dead :( Your referral plan is potentially not a bad idea although I admittedly have never looked into how that all works. Plastiq just isn't my cup of tea.

How much is the fee through the Ortho?

Oh my word, hasnt been that long. I browse but can't keep up lol. I paid my mortgage through it maybe 4 or 5 mos ago. Then was on the bandwagon with fee free mastercard promo. Everything changes quickly in the churning world, so it seems. Ortho essentially charges 2%. I can get a 5% discount by paying with check/cash or 3% discount if with pd with card.

I do have the amex staples orders ive been working on. Wonder if they want to run 10, $300 visa gift cards lol.

Dessert parties haven't counted toward food/bev mins for a while unfortunately, I think around 2014 or so. So originally, we were doing a 12pm ceremony and then a Fantasmic dessert party. We ended up switching to a 7:30pm ceremony and having our reception during and after Illuminations. Soooo that's an option. Or you could do cocktail hour during Illuminations and reception after somewhere else in Epcot.

Disney wedding soda is a rip off. Bottled water is just as bad. And juice is even more than soda. Crazy. We did end up including soda, but had a water station (free!) and lemonade (somehow free when we also added something else). We did a B.O.C. bar (billed on consumption - open bar to our guests, but we only paid for what they drank instead of a package price) and ended up getting money back from the estimate. Alcohol and cake count toward your food/bev mins as well. I think our min was $150pp and we ended up a bit over, around $160pp. That was pre-reception, buffet, cake, and soda/alcohol.

From my understanding, Disneyland is much more expensive than Disneyworld for weddings. But check it out. We were also lucky and got in when they were still offering a discounted wishes for tues-thurs.

Definitely post on the wedding boards and also check out the disbrides groups on Facebook!

I imagine you've seen her (lurkyloo) post on the wedding boards but have you checked out her blog, it has wedding and WDW event stuff. They did a cool party in universe of energy before it closed. https://disneytravelbabble.com/ I think she moderates the cake thread on the restaurant board too, now there's a rabbit hole to fall down into if you're ever board and want some reading with pictures of cool cakes :)

Yes! I refer to Carrie as the Disney weddings guru. She knows everything! She has a book guide to Disney weddings, and a podcast where each week she interviews a real Disney bride (me included!).

So I just found out today that we may be moving to a different state next year for dh’s job. A state with very little to do lol. Not sure what our plane ticket situation will be now.

Did you catch the news Amex is clawing back the Staples offer from those who put it on multiple cards? You’re allowed to redeem it once per SSN. Amex has started clawing back amounts that exceeded $100 claiming the offer was only meant to be used once per person no matter how many Amex cards they have in their name. A few people have been clawed back, a chat rep told someone clawbacks will continue through Dec.

Everyone is getting tap water at my wedding! Kinding kinda lol I would totally have my reception after the dessert party or have the dessert party as the cocktail hour.

Currently, Disneyland is 150 a person for lunch and world is 165. The venue fee is also 1200 less and there is no enhancement minimum the total party just needs to be 18,000 if I have it on a Sunday-Friday.

Yes I even bought her book that summer lol. I started listening to her podcasts I got through two before the summer ended. I should go read through her book again though I’m probably forgetting things.

I'm thinking about sticking our kids (will be 6 and 16) in coach and upgrading DH and I for a family trip to Europe next year... Not sure they will be super excited about that, but our old bones need the comfort...

I read something about Gordon Ramsey always flying first with his wife and putting the kids in coach because they had done nothing to earn it :rotfl:
After reading about women getting molested during flights, I’d be hesitant to allow my kid to sit near strangers.

Is it this one: http://www.luxurycard.com/blackcard I got a few mailers for it last year and was just like...What The...

$495 Annual Fee with no signup bonus :rotfl2::rotfl:

The card is stainless steel and is a symbol of my excessive awesomeness! Also make sure you view the "unboxing video" from the link in the bottom right ;) It's a can't miss! Even if this isn't the card you got the mailer for you need to check it out.
We got a mailer for that a few months ago. I read thru a couple times looking for the signup bonus then...nope, recycle.

Good to know, I never looked too closely at Disneyland so that's great to hear! I know a lot of things have changed since our 2016 wedding. And if you do a Disneyland wedding, you can do a wedding portrait session in Disneyland! Extra cost of course, but only offered to couples that get married at Disneyland. Whereas anyone can do the wedding sessions at any of the parks in Disneyworld.

I called Chase today to book my MNSSHP tickets for next Friday. I was very happy when I got transferred to Terrance, as I remembered seeing his name on here as being one of the helpful reps. He was awesome. He called DVC to try and get me the discounted DVC party tickets, but he learned that DVC won't sell to travel agents. The DVC discount was $20 total for the 4 of us, so I happily gave up the $20 discount to pay $0 out of pocket instead.

I did see this. So i was thinking it wouldn't apply to us. But i could be wrong. Please tell, if i am :)
-- me SPG biz: met offer already
- DH SPG biz working on it now
- DH has offer on his Lowe's biz cc too...he actually has a duplicate card in his name, as an employee card, i don't even know how we got this. But from what i understand this is the issue they're cracking down on right? So we couldn't do it 2xs on his Lowe's cards...

I must echo @gottalovepluto and caution-- Amex has been limiting their offers and even if you have multiple Staples offers they will charge you for any 10% given from this offer over $1000 per name and SSN.

Sounds like you and your DH have discrete offers for at least $3000 but no, I would not expect to get the money back for his second Lowe's (employee) card. That has been the issue, apparently....people get 99 employee cards in their name and then exploited the offers. Not surprisingly, Amex got annoyed.
