Post all SW questions concerns, etc. here...

Not sure if this has been asked here or not. I have the RR Priority Card which allows a complimentary preferred seat at booking. Does this mean I can book the Basic Fare and because of the Priority Card I can pick our seats? If so, can I also book my wife's seat?
I have the RR Premier card. I was not able to select a free seat at time of booking. This is the message that I got when buying a Basic seat:

Thank you for being a Rapid Rewards Premier Cardmember!

As a benefit of your Premier Credit Card, you will be able to select a Preferred or Standard Seat within 48 hours of departure for free when available, otherwise it will be assigned at check-in. If you’d rather select your seat today, you will need to purchase a seat.

I can confirm that, with the Priority Card (top tier for those reading along, the $229 AF card) you can book preferred seats for yourself, the rest of your party, and your CPs at time of booking. I currently have flights booked for April and was able to select all of those seats based on cardholder status. It caps out at 8 additional passengers (9 total travelers) for this benefit.

I have not yet had a flight that hit 48 hours, so I haven't gone through the 48 hour upgrade process yet with this card type. Presumably, it depends on how full the flight is, how many other folks with status are looking to upgrade, etc.

If you are purchasing a basic with premiere card within 48 hours, you may have to book and then go in and upgrade to choose a seat.

It's all so confusing. I hate what SW has become. It all used to be so direct and simple. It makes me sad.
It has been very confusing, with different rules for categories and card holders. I hate that they added a fee for bag check. I also hate that they now have expiration dates on travel funds. I also hate that people with seats at the back of the plane can put their bags in bins near the front of the plane. But I'm not sorry to see the end of open seating.

But what category did you book? Basic or Choice? Basic (cheapest fare) doesn't allow for seat choice at booking but can I pick a seat if I'm using my Priority Card? Choice you get to pick your seat but the fare is higher so there wouldn't be the benefit of the card.

Yes, with a basic fare class and priority RR card, you can choose a basic or preferred seat at booking, as long as they are available.

ETA- it's not actually if you're using your card. It's if you are a cardholder.

You could be using points for the booking and a fare credit for the taxes, therefore having no credit card needed at time of booking, and you as a cardholder would be able to select your seat. And, on the other hand, if you are using your priority card to book for someone else when you are not included in the reservation, the fact that you used the card doesn't give them the right to pick seats.

My husband has a priority cc card. I have done a bogus basic booking in his RR account up to choosing seats for us and it shows we can choose our seats. I do have a concern that Southwest, with all their system of quirks now, might try to reassign our chosen seats at the 24-hour mark since it is a basic reservation. I have read posts that they have made random changes to people’s seating choices.

Another twist is I only have the premier cc card. I would like to book for just me under his RR account because he has a lot more points than I do in my RR account. I would have to upgrade to the Priority cc to be able to get the pick seats at the time of booking. I am assuming this would work.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has done this
