As it relates to me around here...

So is the $300 credit for the Lux also applying to the reservation? If I book a night for $155, will I get a $155 credit? I thought it would be things charged at the hotel and not the stay. It would be great if it were for a stay.
Yes the lux credit already applied. What I’m not sure of is if they wait for you to hit the total $300 before applying it or if they would give you the $155 for the reservation. But I’m guessing the latter and it definitely applied to a stay that was just pre booked and charged!

That sucks, but don’t get too hung up about it. I think we’ve almost forgiven @amalone1013 for forgetting to use a referral when she got a CIP for DH.

I'm still working through forgiveness for my aunt -let me tell her all about the CIP for a couple hours late one night -we went to bed, she got online read up more on the card and got so excited she applied before I could send my referral to her. It's ok. I've been blessed by DIS friends using my links :D

This is us too. We are a 'training route' so if they are not training anyone, and are short on time, they just don't deliver our mail. It's kind of crazy that it's ok to do that but I guess in an age when so much is done electronically, they figure it's fine.

Also, because we are a training route, we get everyone in the neighborhood's mail, except our own, it seems lol! We always have different people and I see them out there in their truck at sometimes 9pm, with their headlamp, sifting through their bundles. I feel bad for them but I'm always worried we won't get our mail...mostly worry about GC's and new CC's...Back on the old GC thread, I had $900 worth of GC's get delivered to the wrong address. It was a couple of days until my neighbors brought them over to me. I was FREAKING out!!
Our last house, we had two of the nicest delivery people ever. We had a sub one time and our package was delivered to the wrong house. Our mailman returned, I talked with him and gave him a heads up. He double checked at every house with the same number as ours (different streets) and finally found it. Turns out the person who got it just set it in their living room and didn’t bother to give it to the post man or deliver it to us. Post woman at our current house was super nice, until this summer. No idea if she quit, retired or changed routes, but we now have a revolving door of random postal workers who could care less whose mail we get.

We moved here just over 5 years ago and the postal guy had been on the route for 22 years. Nicest guy ever. He'd bring my packages and mail up and wait for me to answer just to chat and show me pics of his grandkids. Loved him. He retired a year later and they made the route a training route so now it's someone different every week. And yep, they couldn't care less about delivering to the right house. Unfortunately, we have our same house number on several other streets as well, and, get this, there is a lady two streets over with my same exact name (first & last)!

I'm kind of surprised how many of us have this similar mail problem. Makes me feel better cause I always feel like we got the short end of the stick with our constant mail issues.

We moved last year and ours is pretty good. She introduced herself the first time we saw her and is super nice. Told me that she can get me stamps and whatnot. She has been on this route for several years. We have never had anyone else's mail and when we did...I knew she was on vacation.

Amex concierge was able to secure California Grill for me an hour before the fireworks! This trip was last minute and I wasn’t able to get two reservations that I wanted so I reached out to Amex a few weeks ago and they were now able to secure both my requests.

Ooooh! I never thought about using AMEX for this. I guess I was lucky and found most of what I wanted so I didn't need to use them, but this is great idea! And I'm glad they got you what you wanted.

I wouldn't be concerned about the missing bonus points yet. Hopefully this issue resolves itself soon.

No worries on the PMs - I can tell you people really enjoy getting "surprise" support points too! However, if you send a PM then that person can thank you, and maybe they'll repay you with a click down the line!

We really aren't concerned. We don't have a use in mind for the points at this time, so I'm not in a hurry. But I did want to add to the DPs so others would know they aren't alone in this. I guess I can PM people and tell them I think I used their links but they might think I'm pretty odd. :rotfl: I haven't put up any links since I haven't felt like I'm contributing much since I'm still learning, but I guess I should just in case someone wants to use one. (guess I'll have to figure out how to post over there).

Urgent need for a DP! Plastiq messed up my rent check and we got a call from the property manager saying they didn't get our payment for September yet. I'm pretty sure the terms of our lease fine us a hefty amount each day rent is late past the 3rd of the month. So I had to clock out of work, drive over there, write a check, and now I'm going to write an angry email to Plastiq.

Will Chase claw back my signup bonus (I haven't received it, but got written confirmation that I hit MSR this morning) if I get my rent refunded from Plastiq?

Oh no! I remember reading some sort of guarantee on their site. Did you get the email saying the check had been sent and when was that? The holiday may have come into play, but if they have a guarantee hopefully they will pay the late charges.

I think they do. My payment said "sent" on the 23rd but not "complete". So the check could have gotten lost in the mail, misdelivered, or misplaced in their office. Now the property manager didn't mention anything about late fees (probably b/c of the holiday and also they're nice), but I wanted to rush over there with a check just in case - better to lose $10 from clocking out for an hour than $50 for waiting until I got off work.

Edit: also my job is simultaneously very stressful and very boring and I'm happy to have a good excuse to get out of there for a bit this afternoon :drinking1

Our last house we owned for 18 years. The mail woman was very nice, a bit of chatting when we saw her, complementing our latest home improvement project etc. We mostly saw her on weekends because we both work. One Christmas I was baking cookies when she delivered a package, I told her to wait a minute and packed her a bunch of cookies. She was so thankful and brought it up all the time. So every year after, I made her a care package of cookies with a card. She must’ve shared the info when she retired, because when we gave cookies to the new mailman, he was like I heard about these. :rotfl2:He was also super nice (the one who retrieved our errant package). We moved to our current house and again had a lovely woman delivering. She was usually on our block just as DS and I were getting home from school. She always chatted with DS, always remembered his name, talked to him about Disney. DS even brought her a gift from DLR. We miss her. Our mail is random times, wrong house, etc etc. No idea how much mail of ours is delivered elsewhere but we got lots of others’ mail. Plus they can’t even manage to get the mail through the mail slot (it opens into our enclosed porch) so it always sticking half out getting wet even though it would literally take a half second to push it through.

I thought Amex bonuses posted when you meet MSR. Or do they wait for statement close too? I met MSR for Hilton Ascend. No bonus yet. I’ll spend a bit more just to make sure.

I did get a weird email from Amex saying I haven’t spent anything on my new Ascend Card and how I’m missing out on points. Meantime, my balance is over $2k.

You guys are so funny teasing @amalone1013 like this with your Office memes.

Does anyone have a link or advice on avoiding the surcharges flying into the UK? I don’t understand the extra charges - do they apply to any landing/takeoff in UK including layovers? Just London? Or does it also include Edinburgh, Glasgow, etc? Re award flights... I have read to book award flights to Europe, you should book right when they open up 11 months out esp if you want business or first class. Am I understanding that correctly?

It's sad. We used to have some sort of reliability with the mail. Now there are days when nothing is delivered (yeah, I know there was something on the way, even if it was junk), days when we get other people's mail but not our own, days when it comes really late. The weirdest one was a very late delivery to our entire neighborhood, with a driver I didn't recognize who was not in uniform (more like jeans and a t-shirt) but was in the US Mail truck.

We just came home on a BA flights from LHR to SFO in business class on the huge A380 (great plane) using AMEX MR points. I did book those flights right when they were released since I needed 3 seats and noticed that it wasn't easy to find if I waited. No help with the fees though - it's definitely smart to be looking into those now since they were really high.

A week ago. I’m going to charge gas today. My current balance is $1989. That will push it back over $2k which was supposed to be MSR. Clearly by the email they sent, they don’t thinking I’m using my card. Lol.

Shhh...don't let the cool kids know I still read TPG! Here's a link you might find helpful! I really like the advice to fly in/out of Dublin (especially since out of DUB you clear US immigration :) ). https://thepointsguy.com/2018/03/how-to-avoid-british-taxes-and-fees-on-award-trips/
IIRC Edi/Gla don't have crazy London fees but are a little more challenging flight-wise.

Also, yes! If you want award flights (especially more than for 1 person) start stalking 330-331 ish days out (I've been known to look up when they are loaded and stay up or get up early, depending on the Alliance/carrier).

In my "travel book" (a composition notebook) I have the dates listed for all flights I need in the future and when they open up. It's helpful to know and add to the calendar on my phone. Obsessive, much? Yes...

I think it's just BA that has the surcharge for Heathrow, and I believe it includes all flights that go through LHR . I just checked, you can fly United and the fee is only $5.60, 30K Economy and 60K Business saver (one-way). If you decide to fly United check out their Excursionist perk.

And yes, you usually want to book as soon as flights open.

Don't forget that the card fee doesn't count toward MSR.
