I love credit cards so much!

Just pulled the trigger on the Chase $300 checking bonus for online applications.

Congrats. We kept trying but we're going to have to go in-branch :( We were hoping being within 20 miles of a branch would work, but the Chase online system isn't smart enough for that. Over the river we go sometime this week.

Sooooo if I'm going to book a non-exciting hotel like a Quality Inn and pay cash... there's really no reason not to do something through Hotels.com, like get a gift card for there from Raise for 7% off, go through a shopping portal, earn credits towards free nights with Hotels.com? I know this isn't exactly credit card related, but just was wondering if anyone saw something I'm missing? Hotels.com prices are almost the same as other sites, booking direct, and UR portal.

On another note, now DH's work trip is back on. :faint: I have nothing planned for that, I had pretty much written it off.

Nope, I just did the same thing minus the gift card step! Went through Swagbucks for 8% back and booked two nights at an EconoLodge in the middle of nowhere South Carolina. I'll earn two nights with hotels.com too. I'm hoping to have enough nights by the end of the year to use a free night in Orlando for a Universal trip. It's looking like some of my other horse shows this year are also taking me to the middle of nowhere, so I may keep an eye out for a good hotels.com gift card deal.

I burned off my Citi points back in October to stay at Caribbean Beach for Food and Wine fest. Got 5 nights for 90k points I believe. DH had the Prestige. We canceled it since they devalued the lounge and golf access. TYP definitely have their place and don't get much love. If you have a student loan you can get a check cut to your issuer too - so that would be a free $500 student loan payment...

Can you please explain more about the bolded part? Can you pay your student loan monthly this way or just a suggestion on a way to use the Prestige benefits uniquely?

No love for Citibank? I rarely hear people talking about this bank. I will be sitting on 50,000 Thank you points in about 2 months. Any ideas on what to do with them? I see they have 11 transfer partners. Any Citi experts in the building?

I got the 50k offer on Citibank and they at one point were my favorite card because of bonus offers they emailed
like 5x points on lowes(which i bought disney giftcard). Then those offers dried up so i used the points for flights
and downgraded the card to no AF. I was going to close outright but i like their extra consumer protection on purchases i
made.

Really? Wow.

There is an online app on doctorofcredit website so I applied online. I have a branch 2 minutes from work, though.

I saw the app on DoC but am pretty sure you still have to have a branch nearby. Would have loved to be corrected, however. Those Chase bonuses are awesome but we don't have a branch anywhere near us.

I don’t have one near my house. The closest branch is 50 miles away. However near my job I have a few. I was able to get a $450 Chase checking and savings bonus in 2015. I closed the savings in 2016 and the checking in September 2017. Maybe that’s why I was able to open online? Because of my previous accounts with them?

So we called because we got error message over the weekend when they had their glitch and when we tried again tonight and got another error we weren't sure if something on the first attempt may have corrupted our code/link in the system. Was hoping we could get it worked out over the phone and not have to travel. :p But the phone rep said that because our zip code is in PA and since they don't have branches in PA the online system couldn't generate a routing number so it's not available to apply online for our area. The system's not smart enough to go by region, they hope to have that corrected with an update (hahaha, love CSR's), meanwhile the code is valid still if we take it to a branch to open. But there might be some truth to the explanation given some of the DP's in the DoC comments, I'm betting that if you have a branch anywhere in your state you're good for online.

We thought we might be ok because we are less than 20 miles from the closest branch even though it's out of state. But no dice :)

I am not cancelling that since we are currently earning well with that through plastiq.

@wendow can you make sure I am thinking about this correctly...

Mortgage payment $4000
Plastique fee $100 (2.5% correct)
UR earned through CIP (assuming it works for my small bank) 12,000

So my net gain is $20 or 2000 UR points?

We just checked into Hyatt Recency Maui on Saturday. Rooms for trip are either the 2 free rooms off the credit card or 20k World of Hyatt point rooms (so the cheap rooms). First room they gave us was not great. I went down and talked to them. It was worth the effort. After I asked they upgraded us to a mountain partial ocean view. Huge improvement from first room looking over valet parking. Just to make clear I asked if charge and he said no "if Discoverist status (which is what I have because of credit card) they will upgrade if can." But apparently you need to ask! As I sit on the balcony writing this definitely worth it. Know always interest in Hawaii so will post more about this cheap credit card point trip when I get back.

Can't wait for your review! That is one of 3 resorts I am looking at for later this year. We are close to committing. Just waiting on my CIP UR bonus to post.

There's a student loan redemption section on the ThankYou portal. Here's an article that explains it. Folks talk about this a lot on Reddit Churning too. https://studentloanhero.com/featured/credit-card-rewards-student-loans/

Thanks! I would rather earn rewards from paying my student loan than use the rewards to do it. In one player mode it's not worth it for me to do that when I can get more out of rewards for travel. I know I could do the gift of college gc but don't want to go that route, it seems complicated if you can't use the card directly to your loan provider.

Assuming Plastiq works with your mortgage, a $4,000 payment would have a $100 fee (2.5%), but you’d earn 3x UR on the principal and the fee ($4,100) on the CIP, or 12,300 UR, worth $123 in cash, or you can transfer the points to a CSR for 50% additional value for redemption for travel.

Of course, the way things code can change at any time. But my last Plastiq payment on 2/22 earned 3x UR on my CIP.

@Lain and @Albort both explained. I move all my CIP points to my CSR making them worth even more. Just paying my mortgage with CIP covers the annual fee in 3 mos.

So as long as this coding lasts, it’s a keeper card for us!

Favor - could someone post the steps for double dipping the CSP and CSR? I know its buried here somewhere - just can't recall who posted this a few weeks back. It needs to be a non-holiday weekday, correct?

So, booked Poly thru UR portal. Sometime over the weekend realized I never arranged DME. Tried to find on website but couldn’t figure it out. Got an email today with info about our stay (starting Wednesday) and a number to call for MDE along with the info on our stay, confirmation number, etc. Called the number & CM can’t find my ressie. Asks if I booked third party then says he can’t access my ressie & cant add my info for DME.
I wonder if I needed to do all that thru the Disney Wholesale number. Weird that I got a Disney email with a confirmation number Disney doesn’t recognize
