Ok so it’s late and my brain it’s thinking math. Is the bjs 8% off and freedom a better deal than the Best Buy sb

I take it a step further and add Sam's, but not sure if you have a membership.

Monday: Bought $400 Pre-Paid Amex + some Cheerios that I normally would buy at Sam's = $400 + $4.98 Amex Fee + Cheerios
Received $20 in Dosh credit to be used toward the cc bill. (Haven't gotten an Uber credit on any of my Dosh transactions...)
Paid with CF to get 5x UR

Tuesday: $75 Disney GC + $25 Shell GC at Best Buy
Paid with Amex
Will receive 750 SB + 200 SB Bonus

Rinse and Repeat 3 more times at Best Buy.

So another step to what @Lain said, but an extra $15 in your pocket.

I might buy the Amex at least one more time just for regular expenses, since I essentially get 5x UR and then some with the Dosh credit. Or even do some more at Best Buy and get Amazon for some Christmas gifts.

I was planning on meeting the CIC MSR by purchasing Disney GC at Staples....but now think I’m going to use P2 CSP to buy Disney GC at BJs with the 8% off to go towards the MSR on it....doing the math I come out ahead with BJs ....just need the card to arrive before the 8% goes away
if you are working on spend anyways why not meet the spend and save some

wish we had sams and costco but those are over an hour away. only bjs and thats a 35 min drive. I do the membership with bjs then let it expire for 2 months and get a new one. cheaper than doing the renewal. I just stock up for the two months we don't have it.

I did not win the lottery. Not a regular lottery player, but have a plan. The plan was that I buy a ticket while on vacation so that I would not have to return to work. Now, don't need that plan, so buy a ticket so family doesn't have to go back to work. When I hear these huge numbers I run out and spend $3.

Picked up daughter and grandkids at DCA late last night. Oldest granddaughter sees me and comes running! I love it! That smile and obvious love for her Gammy made the ride worth every minute.

DD is still extolling the virtues of the family room at the Centurion Lounge in Miami. They had a shorter layover there on the return and were able to get food. The food was prepped on little plates - meatloaf and mashed potatoes and made it super easy to grab and eat. Usually they are on nonstop flights, but these were booked using the avios, so she took what she could get. Turned out great!

Anyone else using Discover for Amazon this quarter? How do I know if my purchases are tracking 5x? I reloaded my gc acct to try it out but can't see how to figure this out- I want to buy a bunch of reloads or gc to fill my acct...thanks! (so far I've only used my Disc at warehouses and Amazon, but HOW am I supposed to track anything here,or know if the 5x is counting?)

Go figure, I knew pork roll was a regional thing but I thought by now people knew of it - kinda like scrapple. But I guess some stuff doesn't get the notoriety of others.
Pork roll is almost a staple, I'm gonna have such a hard time moving if people don't at least have pork roll :p I moved to the middle of the state for college and went through soft pretzel withdrawal, and I looked it up once, a few of my favorite brands are totally regional. I told hubby there were only 26 states we could consider moving to until they expand their footprint or start shipping out of state
*googles Scrapple*
You know guys, I felt decently cultured prior to discovering their are staples of the regional diet in parts of America I’ve literally never heard of. I obviously need to use these points towards some more domestic travel!

Really :offtopic::offtopic: but looking for recommendations for a book series for DS11, 7th grade to read. He just finished the Horizon series and Harry Potter. He told me to pick something since so far I've had good picks. (He really picked out the Horizon series himself when I made him get a book at the school book sale and not just crap :)). We have the upcoming Fantastic Beasts on pre-order so he needs something to hold him over for the next month.

I've done both with previous quarters and had it credit on Discover.

I'd go to Doc's link here: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/q4-2...s-suggestions-freedom-discover-dividend-cash/

Under the Discover category he has a link to see how far along you are... it used to list the transactions but I don't see that anymore unfortunately, but you can check if the total back matches up with what you expect. It's a live count.

For example, I've spent $383.72 at Costco so far, and $5 elsewhere (1%), and my numbers match that - 5% is $19.19, 1% is $0.05. My statement has not cut yet, so my cash back balance doesn't reflect this since it doesn't post until statement cut. Hope that helps!

I can at least say I have heard of it but I have tried or will try it. Just like grits. My friends in AL ruined a perfectly good Krispy Kreme donut be putting grits. Such sacrilege!

IDK this is way OT but when I want recommendations I always go the local library and ask....I Love librarians! they always have good book advice-

Who were you denied by and when were the othe inquiries.....With Chase the key is to spread out the applications...2-3 months apart.... I sell on eBay and have 3 Chase business cards...so if you have any questions just ask away here...everyone is very helpful

Thanks! I was denied for an Alaska Air card (BOA) Reasons said not long enough credit history. This was before I knew much about rewards cards and led me to looking into them.
Then I got a CSP and the next day was denied a Venture for too many inquiries. Possibly I did too much too fast. DH was approved for both CSP and Venture. I don't want to go to fast, but also would really like to be using upcoming spending towards an MSR.
DH is in construction but has worked so many hours at work that he hasn't really done any side work in years. Not quite sure how to apply for a business card for him with that.

Ok PP lounge and restaurant usage.... I've had a PP card for a couple of years and never really used that perk (!!!!) but upcoming trip is gonna take us thru LAX and BOS....both of which I see have lounges and restaurant options. I have a PP thru my CSR,so that covers me+2 fam members(?) and I also have 10 PP options from a Hilton card for our 4th fam member..... How do I use these? Just show the card at the restaurant of choice ,or lounge and get in? What else do I need to know? FWIW we'll be flying a combo of Jetblue,American and Alaska..... How many uses per airport visit is the pass usable for? Like if I'm at an airport for many hours b/c of a delay, can we visit a restaurant using PP,and then later on another PP restaurant? Or is it only one usage per airport visit?

For DH business card...apply using his name and SS number as the business name and EIN number and sole proprietor....for the business info....usethe numbers from the side work when he was doing it....

For Chase you have to space out applications 2-3 months

I haven't read them personally, but I've seen great reviews about the Percy Jackson series. They're always near the top of the young adult/children's lists on Goodreads!

thanks for the link! Ok I checked this out..... It looks about right, but I'm not sure my AMZ reload counted at 5x..... maybe I should buy e-gc's to see if that does it

I'm sorry I keep posting about this...I just am getting analysis paralysis. I'll try and keep it short.

Would you rather:
1) Apply for the Business Green Rewards card and the petite 5k MR bonus for a very easy MSR, in the hopes that you can later pull an elevated 75k offer for the Business Gold Rewards, OR
2) Apply for the Business Gold Rewards card and the current 50k offer? I don't want to miss out on a free $250. If you call to match a higher offer, do you do so after applying?

Either one would be my first-ever Amex product. I find the 75k links but can't log in to actually apply for them. Decisions!

Seeing as this is your first Amex I’d go ahead grab the green if it’s what appeals to you after the gold. Once in a lifetime makes biz gold hard to hit at 50k, if you need 50k MRs in the next couple months take the biz gold but if you can wait I’d prob wait.

Amex doesn’t match. If the moon & stars align a CSR might throw some courtesy points your way.

Sounds good...Oh wait! I'm looking at the SPG business card, which I've never paid much attention to before. 100k points, looks like I can redeem them for a stay at Marriott properties, including some off-site properties at Disneyland...this seems like a no-brainer. I think I'm going to go for it tomorrow night...stop me if it's a bad idea!

(sorry for the whiplash @gottalovepluto! Maybe I can apply for the BGR too in a week or so?)

@Artygal90, honestly, neither #1 nor #2.

If you're looking for a first-ever Amex card -- and a business card that won't add to your */24 and throw off your plans with Chase -- I think you should seriously consider the Blue Business Plus ("BBP"):
  • $0 AF, which is great for holding MR points if you decide to cancel other (future) MR-earning cards with big AFs and find yourself needing a no cost option to keep your points alive.
  • 2x MR on every purchase up to $50k/yr., which you could eventually pair with the Amex Gold's 4x MR on dining and groceries, the Amex Platinum's 5x MR on airfare, if you want to build out a MR-earning wallet.
  • 20k MR after $5k/3 months MSR targeted offer, or
  • 10k MR after $3k/3 months MSR through support link offer.
  • Amex biz credit card so it won’t count against Chase 5/24, but will take up one of Amex’s 5 credit card limit.
  • Ability to generate 15k MR referral bonuses up to 55k MR/yr., which you can use to self-refer yourself to other Amex cards' public and occasionally elevated offers in incognito mode when you aren't targeted for the higher offers.
You're considering the BGR with a $5k MSR anyway, but you're aware that taking the 50k MR public offer means precluding yourself from the higher 75k MR targeted offer for that card product in the future.

If you get the Biz Green, that's a 5k MR bonus for a single purchase (e.g., a banana or a pack of gum). Easy peasy, lemon squeezy. However, you should think longer term about the utility of this card and what it might mean for your relationship with Amex.

First, the Biz Green earns only earns 5k MR per referral. You can generate a self-referral link and use it to apply for almost any of Amex's other cards, but that only pads the other cards' welcome offers by another 5k MR (compared with 10k MR/referral from the BGR or 15k MR/referral from the BBP).

Second, the Biz Green earns only 2x MR for travel booked through Amex Travel and 1x MR for everything else -- it's not a good daily earner and you have no compelling reason to put any additional spend on this card after your first and only purchase for the 5k MR. The Biz Green has a $0 first year introductory AF, but $95 afterwards. I'm guessing you plan to cancel the Biz Green after the first year, which is understandable. But, with Amex scrutinizing your "history" with welcome offers and cards you have opened and closed whenever you apply for a new card, signing up for a card, putting only the minimum amount of spend on it to get the bonus, and sockdrawering the card until it's time to cancel is no longer acceptable, and you'll get this dreaded pop up:

Based on your history with American Express welcome offers, introductory APR offers, or the number of cards you have opened and closed, you are not eligible to receive this welcome offer.

We have not yet performed a credit check. Would you still like to proceed?

This pop up warning basically means if you proceed and get approved for a new card, you won't get the welcome bonus. If this sounds like your plan for the Biz Green, don't go for it; you'll end up on Amex's naughty list. The only way to get off this bad list and make the pop up go away seems to be putting more (a lot more?) spend on the Amex card(s) you already have. The Biz Green would not be a good first card for you to get started with Amex, and you should probably save it for when you have other Amex cards on which you're already spending lots of money on an ongoing basis to offset the weak link Biz Green.

Going back to the BBP, it earns 15k MR per referral, and you can use a referral link generated from the BBP for yourself to apply for pretty much any of Amex's other cards, including the BGR. Say you never get targeted for the BGR's 75k MR offer. You could self-refer yourself to the BGR from the BBP for the 50k MR, $5k MSR/3 months public offer and pocket a 15k MR referral bonus, netting you 65k combined MR points, which isn't a bad deal considering the lower $5k MSR (because the 75k MR BGR sometimes comes with a higher $10k MSR). And because the BBP is such a strong everyday card with 2x MR earned on every purchase, you can use it as a daily driver and keep Amex happy to approve you for future cards.

I started a new temp job Monday and already hate it, not a good office culture, going to be boring, similar to last job I quit just dif industry, have to take a min 4 hours to use pto, an hour for lunch and other stuff. At least when they try to go perm I can say no. But it's money which is the important thing.

Thank you for the thread not exploding though I'm sure it will now that I've said something. Training all day with little time to go on the boards etc, clearly they don't understand the need for sanity breaks. At least I have wdw next week so only 7 more days of work including today. Going to be so hard to come back though.

Still hoping for that othet job, they still haven't posted it but I also haven't heard anything. Guessing I should jist leave it and then if they post it I'll send something again or at least make sure they have my resume for it.
