I love credit cards so much! v7.0 - 2025 (see first page for add'l details)

I had this happen too for the first time ever with only two open biz cards. Unfortunately I recieved the letter after I'd left for vacation, and it all fell over the holidays, and I wasn't able to get into a Chase. Not sure what to do now except accept defeat and move on. :sad2:
Call and see if your app is still alive and you can submit docs. Worst that happens is they say no, best is you find out their deadline wasn’t as hard as it sounded.
RENTAL car question:
In the past, I have always declined insurance coverage when paying with the CSP. Lately, when picking up the car, the agents have on insisted adding liability insurance. One time I got around that by giving my personal auto policy information. Another time it was just a one-day rental so I paid for the liability insurance.

I am renting a car again next week and plan to pay with my CSP. What is everyone here doing when renting and using CC insurance to cover? I know the CSP does not cover liability. Should I just give my personal auto info and not mention "my credit card has coverage."? Is the liability insurance necessary? I read online somewhere that this is EXTRA liability coverage and the rental car company already has some built in - but not sure how true this is.
You already know to read your own insurance policy. After that review CSR’s. And then do anything possible to book skip the counter rentals, including paying more for your rental through a different company. It’s like a different world when you aren’t badgered into buying crap you don’t need using up time you don’t have while you’re exhausted from traveling and all you want to do is pick up the car you paid for. Make the switch!!

Food for thought- there is no rental company on planet earth that sells anything to a consumer for the sake of the consumer

I'm looking at excursions for our April Costa Rica trip. We're staying at Los Altos for a week. For those who have been did you book excursions through the hotel or separately? Any must dos or ones to avoid?
We booked excursions through the Chase portal and also found a local guide. Used Manuel's Tours and a private sailing excursion with AquaQuepos.

I accidentally made 2 flight reservations for the same day and SWA just canceled one. Will AMEX claw back the credit (I used last year's credit to make the first one)

Did you get a refund or was it a SW credit? If it was a credit, Amex wouldn't know about it, so no clawback risk.

Otherwise, were both flight reservations made last year using the same card and fit the loophole criteria (if you're using the incidentals credit)? Clawback risk should be low since hopefully Amex sees the non-refunded one as using the credit.

If neither are true, then clawback risk is high, but not a sure thing.

For those of us who booked Hilton Mystic Dunes in Orlando a week or so ago, on a steal of a deal... I just checked to see if I could edit my room from a 1 BR to 2 BR, and the points prices are WAYYY back up. For the room I booked, instead of 10K it's now 60k/night. Bummer that I couldn't change the room type, but glad I got my reservation in when I did... just hope they don't cancel them! I wish I had booked more nights... lol

ETA: oops, that was 2.5 weeks ago, with the holidays I had no concept of time there for awhile :P

Ugh, I'm so annoyed! I added a Green Chef $10 back from a single $50 transaction on my Amex and placed an order for $52.xx. This morning I see 2 charges, one for $19 something and one for $32 something. So that means I won't get the $10 back. Whyyyy would they process the charge that way?
That's annoying. You could try chatting with Amex.

DP on trying to pay Barclays Aviator before first statement to get the SUB. I did an electronic transfer from my main checking acct to Barclays and marked it "Annual Fee and Monthly Payment." I just received a check in the mail from Barclays for that exact amount marked "Annual Fee and Monthly Payment." So that clearly did not work.
Thats so weird, I paid my fee and charge, both hit my account before my first statement closed. My first statement has a starting and ending balance of zero and my miles posted immediately. Shockingly.

So, I applied Tuesday night for the US Bank Biz connect, and got a denial in the actual USPS mail this morning. That has to be the fastest denial ever. Reason is maximum amount of unsecured credit already available. Anyone know if they might consider shuffling credit around and approving?
Good thing I did the Citi AA biz for plan B last night, with instant approval, but that entire spend is pretty much earmarked already. Hopefully they send it fast.

Can you close a boa biz card via sm or do you have to call? It's on my list to do next fri.
If you call they'll run you through any retention offers. Called to close my Biz Customized cash and before he closed he said he saw some offers on the account and asked if I'd like to hear them. That's been my experience with multiple BoA cards including an Alaska one, if there is an offer they mention it, I don't have to fish. This particular card they gave me $50 just to keep it no strings last fall fall 2023 and today they offered $50 or a higher CL (lol, I'd actually dropped the cl to prep for the closure) or spend $3k in 3 months, get $300. Took the spend offer as I'm light on spend in the moment.

ETA- it was '23, need more coffee...

Our area Office Depot just closed. What are my other options for the monthly Amex Gold $20 office supply credit?

When we had biz golds, I bought GC at Staples online. They have Disney, but with a $1.99 surcharge and minimum is $50. I did Uber the most and stored that up for our Disney trip. Have also done Airbnb, Target, and Chipotle. Target sometimes has the $10 ones so I can do nothing OOP.

Staples online has some 3rd party GC without fees, codes as Staples to get the credit. Just leave a day or two buffer, when they finalize the charge they use that date for the transaction. I forgot one month, risked it and got some instant eGC delivered, final charge changed to the 2nd and used next month's credit anyway :headache:

Sorry about the denial. :( I don't think USB will move CL.

How many inquiries did you have on the credit report they pulled? Any deposit accounts with them?

I would have to check on inquiries. I have had a checking account with them for 11 years.

I looked. 4 current inquiries but the 4th was the one for this card. Otherwise the Barclays card in November and US bank in April and September.

bought a car today. while I don't have a msr, points are always good. Max
$2500 on card and a 1.8% fee! nevermind!

hit msr on all the new cards I opened in Dec. Just using csr and amex hilton to give it a breather. will start up again after closing some over 1 year old cards.

That would make you 2/6 and 3/12 inquiries at the time. With a relationship, I would have thought you'd be approved. :( Hope they're not getting stricter.

Interesting, never had that happen. Last year I had to argue to get my af waived when I cancelled which is why I'm not waiting for it to hit this year. I also keep my personal AS so I don't need the biz. And unless something better comes up I'll most likely app the new biz offer which I'd rather over the retention.

I do need to see if there's retention on my plat, I didn't have one last year.

Not really CC related, but if you use DOSH- I got an email today stating they're eliminating the app:

Dear Doshers,

We hope your holiday season was filled with joy, festive memories, and of course, a lot of savvy shopping with cash back offers! As we step into 2025, we wanted to share an update with you.

After much thought and consideration, we have made the decision to sunset the Dosh app. As we prepare to wind down, we wanted to thank our millions of users who have supported us throughout the years. It’s been an exciting adventure, and we hope you were able to earn some cash back along the way.

Before the app is discontinued, here’s what you need to know:

Timing: The Dosh app will officially sunset on February 28, 2025 with the last day to make a qualifying transaction on January 16, 2025.

Withdrawal Reminder: We've lowered the withdrawal limit to $0.01, allowing you to retrieve any remaining balance from your Dosh account until February 23 2025. Please note that any remaining cash back balances after this date will be forfeited.

Updated Terms: We have updated our Terms of Service to reflect the app closure, which can be viewed here.

Although Dosh is coming to a close, your cash back journey doesn’t have to end here! You can still access the cash back offers you know and love through your bank’s rewards program.

Thank you again for your continued support and engagement with Dosh, and we wish you all the best on your personal financial journeys!

Best,

The Dosh Team

I don't remember seeing this anywhere and just saw on my AmEx statement that AmEx is removing Shoprunner as a benefit March 31, 2025.

If you are currently enrolled you'll keep it for the remainder of your membership year and two years thereafter.

Other removals - can't redeem MR directly on NewEgg.com and Staples.com.

And the Auto Purchasing Program is being discontinued April 28. (This was sometimes useful as dealers in the program had to accept part or all of a car purchase on an AmEx card.)

Unclear to me if the AF had posted to the account yet? I was unable to pay more than what was showing on the current balance, so not before the $99 or $95 or whatever the fee was hit the account.

Just looked at DH's new Barclay's Hawaiian card; the AF hit on 12/31 but the first statement hasn't closed yet. I could pay it off now if I wanted. The 70,000 miles are showing in his account.

I edited my original post to reflect the fact that the annual fee had not yet posted when I sent the payment. I sent the payment before the AF hit and before the first statement period closed.

Wow! My 2nd reservation in November is a 2 bedroom just in case someone travels with me. I'm about 5+ weeks away from the first 2 nights I booked. This snow is making me wish I was there right now!

I booked my 2nd trip at 13K points a night.

Just used 13 Visa gift cards to pay for my auto insurance. That was fun.

And we're down to two companies for paying federal taxes with a CC and I think one of the two charges a higher rate when using a business credit card.

This was me last year! Was excited to have an MSR this time and where I could just put it all on one card. 🤣
