Long time lurker, now with a question! I’ve had both of the Chase Disney Visas for many years- probably 15+. Thinking about cancelling the premium to avoid the annual fee- I’m currently unemployed and no Disney travel anytime soon😢 if I do, when could I apply again for a card and get the signup bonuses? Thanks for your advice!
You can apply again 2 years after the bonus posted, so you are well past that…..if you cancel the annual fee card you also need to wait 30 days before applying for the same card

What are we thinking for Dell? 15% at Rakuten now, is it going to get any better before the end year?

Unfortunately you can’t buy DGC with BestBuy GC anymore. The only store GC that can be used to buy DGC is by using a Sam’s Club GC at WaImart
Oh wow, that’s good info. I almost cashed out to $2000 worth of BestBuy gift cards that I would not have been able to buy Disney cards with!!??
Glad I asked and waited for a reply. lol

Just remember you don’t have to pay them all at once.

If you enroll in automatic payments it will set up a monthly amount to come out of your bank account for each of your contacts. Then you would purchase the GC at a discount for the amount of your monthly cost or more and apply it per contract each month.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, DISCHURNERS!

Is anyone else here planning a trip to Japan? If I'm not the only one maybe we could share some booking/planning info. I'm in uncharted territory (Europe seems so much easier for some reason) and would appreciate some company. :)

Ds and I are going in January. It will be my 3rd time this year and 4th time total (first trip in 2019)! I LOVE visiting Japan!

We will be starting with 3 nights in Singapore at the Conrad, then flying to Tokyo on Singapore Air. We'll be at the Hyatt House Shibuya for 4 nights, then taking a taxi to Tokyo Disney for 2 nights (FSH with unlimited package). Then heading to Osaka for 5 nights at the Conrad with day trips to Hiroshima, Kyoto and Kobe. Ds and I are both very excited for this trip!

If you are referring to the statement credit that you receive after spending $xxx then that is 2 years.

I would consider seeing if they would just let you downgrade the card to the 0% card. If intent on canceling a card I would transfer the credit line to whichever card has the longest age and then cancel the newest one. If the oldest happens to be the AF one then downgrade it after moving the credit line.

When your situation improves I would recommend a different card for your every day purchases and just use the Disney one for the Meet & Greet photos, discounts, 0% promo and discounts. The only spend I put on mine is if there is a Chase Offer or a bonus opportunity

Hope you get back on your feet soon :)
Thank you!

We’re going for 3 weeks next year. Were flying into Hiroshima (after transferring to a domestic flight in Haneda). 3 nights in Hiroshima with trips to Miyajima, Okayama and Kurashiki. Then a late afternoon Shinkansen to Osaka. We are planning to use the luggage delivery service between cities so we don’t take our big bags on trains. 3-4 nights in Osaka. Undecided on whether we will go to the World Expo there (opens in April so we will wait on reviews). Will go to the Kirby Cafe here. Day trips to Himeji and Nara from there. Then a night in Kinosaki Onsen (bags will move on to Kyoto without us for this stop). Then 4 nights in Kyoto with day trips to Nara and Uji. Then rest of the time in Tokyo. Pokemon cafe will be a visit here along with other mainstream things in the city. Day trips to Nikko, Kamakura, and Kawasaki. Maybe Yokohama, Fuji Five lakes area and/or Kawagoe. Last night in Tokyo should have a Tanabata festival.

Mom has a Citbank AA Platinum Select Card. She has had it for well over 10 years. She keeps it for the free checked in luggage benefit and so her AA miles never expire. Her AF is $99/yr.

She needs another SUB and could always use more AA miles. Her last card was a CIP in 7/2024 and she was an AU on my Dad's new AMEX Gold in 12/2023. No personal cards in the last 2 years.

What should she apply for next? She has a mailed offer for the Citibank Business Card with a 80k SUB ($5k MSR) with a waived $99 AF for the first year. If she is approved for this, should she keep her personal card? Perhaps she should apply for the Barclay's personal card and then cancel the Citi personal card?

Also, we froze her credit. I assume we have to unfreeze with all 3 credit bureaus? How long should I temporarily unfreeze them for, since this is a holiday weekend that we plan to do the applying during?

I always seem to wait until the last minute to apply for cards when a big spend is on the horizon! :faint:

Will go to the Kirby Cafe here.

Thanks for mentioning. I didn’t realize Osaka opened a Kirby Cafe. I’ve tried to get reservations in Tokyo a few times and failed. Even tried a service last time and they failed!

I find it a lot harder than Pokemon cafe because the whole month opens at once.

Yes, just opened a week ago.

I’m also going to keep any eye out if any pop up cafes look interesting.
None of us speak Japanese so unfortunately I don’t think we’d have a good time at the Swallowtail butler cafe.

Yeah, it's really frustrating. She thinks I'm running some kind of scam. Exactly what kind of scam a person runs buying 3 or 4 $110 DGC every few months (because I usually have 10% up to $11 offers), she is unable to explain.

No problem using my OD offers yesterday.

In regards to Chase patterns, wanted to speculate that I've seen some posts on reddit recently on various subs that lead me to believe that Chase is being very aggressive with tightening up on bust out risk. Perhaps that has to do with the election and perhaps that will be short term. One thing specifically that caught my eye was a non-churner new to the Chase ecosystem who opened a Sapphire, made ordinary charges and partially paid them off before statement cut. To Chase, he looked like he was attempting to cycle credit and they closed his account within the first month.

Just thought I'd mention it here if we have new users to the Chase ecosystem. I know lots of people here pay their balances early, even before the statement cuts. If you are newish to Chase, I really wouldn't recommend it, certainly not right now while Chase seems to be tightening up.

Here's some other commentary I thought was useful speculation regarding Chase right now:

That sounds great! Any tips for getting the package at FSH? We want unlimited, too, and now they are only booking it as a one night package, which is going to make this extra challenging.

We are staying in Kyoto but considering a day trip to Osaka because of the Expo (but I'm concerned about it, too, since we don't really enjoy crowds). I'm waiting to see if it looks interesting.

What's a Kirby Cafe? I'm so behind in my planning. Is it bad to go there with no meals booked at all?

He’s an adorable pink Nintendo video game character. Themed cafes in Japan are pretty popular - you get food shaped into your favorite characters. Now if you are not fan, probably not something you’d want to do. Food is generally nothing amazing taste wise - it’s all about how it looks. And yeah, pretty much no walk ins. You have to book when they become available. It’s easier if you pay a Japanese native to do it for you (you can find them on fiverr).

For character cafes, keiseiki, and some popular foodie places you’d need to book. But other than that, I like to keep things flexible and just pick something nearby when we get hungry. I’ll save places in Google maps as I come across them. Sometimes it helps us pick. It’s hard to find bad food in Japan though. So for me, I have more must eats foods than must eat restaurants.

Question: Are there available support for any AA cards or for the JetBlue Barclay cards?

A search says there are no Citi AA supports available.

DP - We unfroze, applied for the Citibusiness AA card for Mom, instant approval, and then cancelled thaw.

Tomorrow I will try to apply for the JetBlue Barclay card. Seems like there were supports available at one time (earlier this year). If anyone wants to check to see if they are able to generate a support for the current 80k SUB, please lmk and I will check for it over on reddit.

Thanks and I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Also if you want to have Kobe beef in Kobe you will need reservations. The restaurants are pretty popular even though they are $$$.
