Quoting myself to ask again, meeting spend for retention on my plat. If I did both GE and Clear, that spend would count even though I would get reimbursed. Right? Just like an offer would count for the whole amount?

It counts, but I'm not sure if Amex means for it to count, as the terms is this "Eligible purchases are purchases for goods and services minus returns and other credits."

I don't count the credits or the Amex offer credits either. I may have gotten the SUB already, but I keep spending until I get to the MSR on my spreadsheet. But that's my own risk tolerance.

As others have said it will count, but AmEx posts reimbursements pretty quickly. The reimbursement would negate the charge at that point and you would have to make the spend above and beyond this anyways because of the terms wanderlust7 pointed out. Nowadays I always spend around 10-15% over the MSR to allow for refunds, credits, etc. because several years ago I lost a big SUB cutting it too close (it was clawed back after a refund on a bunch of returned clothes posted), and it was a while before I could do the sign up bonus over again. Oh, and don't forget to spend over the AF, too. Not a big deal on some cards- but these six and seven hundred dollar AFs don't count, either. I almost screwed up there once, too. Don't know what it is about retention offers and the AF- for some reason it just doesn't want to register in my brain and on the spending plan- maybe because it's a renewal or something like that.

Does anyone know if Capital One referrals will work for any Cap One card, or only for the card that the referrer has? (I’m wondering if existing Cap One cardholders will be able to refer for the new Venture X card.)

Another cap one question to add on. Does anyone know if they expedite cards? We are blowing past p2 CIU by a couple grand and I need a new card ASAP. May also need an unplanned trip to the canine neurologist this week too 😞

If you are eyeing the Venture X, keep in mind it doesn’t come out until November 9.

I did a little digging when I saw on DoC that the support will be 25k. Looks like it needs to be the same card. And the supportee needs to not have any Cap1 cards for the supporter to get the bonus (though personal and biz are considered separate).

Thanks for the info but boo. I guess I can use a referral link from a miles and points blog I like and hopefully at least support them with my new card.

Looking for random tips -

Assume I have a decent amount of UR, Amex MR, Avios points, some Wyndham points, and (most importantly) SW companion pass.

I want to take as many short, mostly domestic trips with my 10 year old daughter over the next couple of years as we can. Mostly 3-5 day trips to Southwest destinations.

We like to stay mostly cheap, but are always on the lookout for value oriented upgrades or splurges. Cheap as in we will almost automatically stay in any 5k Hyatt property. And if there aren't great 5k or 8k Hyatt properties, I am generally considering a cheap Wyndham family hotel thru the Chase portal.

Any tips or advice for people like me that value quantity of nights over quality of nights?

Help please! Has anyone here been to Barcelona? My inlaws are taking my kids on a Europe
cruise next year departing Barcelona. Im looking around at hotels as they will fly in 3 or 4
days to recoup jetlag/sightsee. Are there bad areas to avoid? Stay close to port? downtown?

Is getting around easy? Thanks!

If I buy an airline ticket for an immediate family member to Israel using my CSR, is she covered for the travel insurance if I'm not also on the trip? If I instead use UR, is she also covered?
Would she be able to use my card ( in my name) on the trip? I know in the States I use cards with my P2's name on the them all the time and vice versa. Just wondering about internationally?
Thank you very much!

That's great! We really enjoyed Barcelona. This was before I got into churning, so we stayed at a serviced apartment called BCNGotic. Loved it. They mailed me a little souvenir every year for 2 years after our stay. ❤ Then we moved...so not sure if they continued.

It's pretty easy to get around. We took the metro, you can get a T10 ticket for 10 rides that can be shared between people. Took the bus a couple times. Taxi to Park Guell, from the airport, and to port. We regretted not pre-booking transportation leaving the port because the taxi line was long.

Hi all,
I’m planning to get my wife a SW business card and a SW personal card to earn her a companion pass through bonus points. I’ve done this 2 or 3 times under my name. So I know the general how to, but I can’t keep up with all the Chase rules. Does it matter which card she applies for first?
Thanks for the help.

Good to I know. I just wish the ge appt weren't just m-f during reg biz hours.

Eta I should also do it now since I have the retention spend to do. It should count even though it's reimbursed correct? Maybe so clear too for that reason 😀 that's almost 200 in spend I wouldn't have to pay for.
Yes! I think it counts. Clear is awesome! I get through security in two minutes with TSA precheck and Clear. You just walk through and not have to take off your shoes or computer out.

i believe it depends on what your definition of "immediate" family member is. I believe it covers family members + parents but i dont think it covers anyone else outside of that. If u use URs, it should cover.

its probably best if u call the members service and ask them as they would most likely know better.

Can someone please remind me if it's ok to message Chase to do a PC for my CIP? I really don't want to call, but I guess I will if I have to.

@Happy_2_B Love cruises and I would love to hear your feedback on Viking. We’ve done 20 cruises with DCL and are now just deciding to branch out and cheat on the mouse. We do have the Panama Canal in 4 months and the Wish Maiden Voyage booked in June as the last of our planned Disney cruises. Next month we are going to try out the adults only Virgin Scarlet Lady and late next year will be our first cruise with Celebrity as we have the all suites Flora booked for a Galapagos cruise. I’ve been on one Carnival and one RCCL cruise before and wasn’t especially impressed. I thought the service and food was way better on DCL. Since you sound like an experienced cruiser, your thoughts on other lines would be appreciated:flower3:

Like you, I think I'm ready to branch out from DCL and I'm looking at Viking (although I hate that they want PIF so early - that's really what has stopped us so far), but I'd love to hear your thoughts on Virgin when you get back.

Just one DP, but when we renewed our GE it was pretty quick and automatic. No hard to book interview required this time around. We accidentally let DD's expire, and re-applying for her took a lot longer than our renewals did but even she didn't need an interview. Also, Clear has been great. Glad we got it.
