I'm sorry that happened to you. I don't think it will matter where the flight originated. West Jet is a Canadian company, it would make sense that they operate under Canadian law. Does the Cdn Transportation Agency not have a clause specifying refunds to original form of payment for flights canceled by the airline like DoT does?

The CTA had earlier said that airlines didn't have to issue a refund, but has now backed down on that statement (article published today cited below). Based on the article I filed a complaint with West Jet today -- we shall see how they respond. The article also states that I can file a dispute with the CTA if West Jet doesn't comply and issue a refund.

The Canadian Transportation Agency is backing away from an earlier statement on flight vouchers, saying its initial position on airlines’ right to issue travel credits instead of a refund for cancelled trips is “not a binding decision.”

The latest statement could open the door to more refunds from carriers that have cited the agency’s stance in denying passenger requests to get back cash for services not rendered.

Late last month, the regulator said the passenger rights charter does not oblige airlines to refund customers for flights cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A post Tuesday from the agency reiterates that position, but also stresses customers’ right to demand a refund based on the “tariff” — the contract between passenger and carrier.

“The statement on vouchers suggests what could be an appropriate approach in extraordinary circumstances, but doesn’t affect airlines’ obligations or passengers’ rights,” the agency said in the FAQ section of its website.

WestJet’s website highlights future travel credit for cancelled flights, but says: “We are not processing refunds to original form of payment at this time.”

The disclaimer comes despite the company’s tariff, which states that “the unused portion of the passenger’s ticket(s) will be refunded” in the same form as it was purchased, “should the alternate transportation proposed by the carrier not meet the passenger’s satisfaction.”

Did any of us lose DVC points for 2019 due to this? If so, check your email, they are extending the Mar and June use year points.
I read the email...people are already going crazy in DCV groups complaining about the 50% borrowing restriction and those that deposited points into RCI are upset.
Unfortunately DVC can’t make everyone happy but I feel they are doing the best they can

I have an October use year, currently have points being used in July. Not sure what to think of this new announcement, I'm sure it won't help me at all. My banking deadline is May 31st, but they are sending out info so slowly, will I know by then if it's going to happen? Hoping that this rumor that Monday Florida will make some announcements is true.
I'm actively cancelling all our May trip plans. I cancelled all the dvc nights back in March so I could bank the points before they would go into holding. I knew dvc was working with people but I didn't want any issues. But i still have banked points that we were supposed to use in April and when we cancelled that trip, they returned them to 'the bank'. So, now they have to be used by end of July or lose them. I'm really not sure I want to have to go in July but feel forced to have to take this trip, if wdw is open. I'm hoping they extend our UY for 6 mos too!

I stay off the dvc boards. I can't stand the constant arguing and bashing. I also feel dvc is doing the best they can. They are in such a hard place here as to how to work within their means to try to please as many as they can.

It is and it's my fault for only looking for natural jif that would ship and forgetting that crunchy exists. Hopefully the grocery store has some though if mom switches now the creamy will last a few weeks.

I don't want my sandwich to be crunchy. I like peanuts on their own but I DO NOT want them in my peanut butter anything. Really I don't want nuts in anything. Nuts you eat by themselves not in stuff, blah.
I buy natural jif too and the packaging is too similar. When I was growing up I knew to avoid the blue top regular jif.

Yeah, I knew they would still make some people unhappy. But geez, at least they did something for those people, I think it's more than fair for the rest of us. I admit I did say oh crap on borrowing, in case I have to move Aulani, but then realized I don't need 50% or more on top of one years points for that.

That's what i was going to come say... I think the 50% borrowing restriction is really unfair tbh. Some people bought enough points to go every 2 or 3 years, and rely on the borrowing option to be able to go on their trips. I get that they're in a tough spot with all of this though. I almost wish they left all the rules in place and compensated people for the points lost instead.

They could of suspended borrowing completely, so I feel they are trying to be as fair as possible to everyone due to a situation totally out of their control.
I think some people on those boards assume DVC is Disney.....a timeshare is different...if DVC were to compensate people for lost points it would increase all of our dues.

Agreed!

We have an August use year, and banked all of our points except for a Memorial Weekend stay that another family was planning to use, but don't want to now, even if Disney should be open (which I completely understand).

My wife said DVC claims that if we keep the reservation, and even if Disney/DVC is closed Memorial weekend, we still have to use the points before August. That doesn't sound right to me, so I thought I'd run it by y'all, in case you've heard anything.

Yes! I didn't even think about it that way. I give my mom a hard time about wearing her glasses when she shops. Years back she bought coconut oreos or some other equally crazy flavor. Took them in to work.

I'm a little conflicted on the DVC announcement now. The 50% borrowing rule will affect us because we're in a constant state of borrowing. If we're not able to go on our June trip (which we most likely won't), we'll only be able to rebook using half our points, which will probably equal two nights the later in the summer we have to try to rebook for. But, the availability it pretty scarce anyways so we might now be able to use them anyways, and we're already prepared to stay on cash. But, I know they needed to do something and feel really bad for the members that were going to lose points through no fault of their own. It all seems super complicated to be honest, and I wish I just knew when/how Disney would be open so I could actually figure out how to proceed.

reading the announcement, I agree with your wife.

My understanding is those of us with aug UYs need to use expiring points by end of July, even if the resort is closed when our reservations were to occur. I called not long ago and that’s what MS told me. If there is still a closure going on, I guess they could grant us the same 6mo extension but who knows?!?

Ok, thanks! I was sure my wife mis-heard, or the DVC person mis-spoke, but I'm a believer now.

If things are still shut down through July, I would think DVC would do something, but I've been wrong before (and you don't have to look far to prove that :D ).

And I see DVC's problem: they now have roughly 3 extra months of points to be accommodated over the next year or so, and it was hard enough to get reservations before this.

I would guess they will, but I'm also guessing that by sending this email out with concrete guidelines, they have an idea of when they are going to reopen and they excluded future UYs on purpose. Hopefully that doesn't end up being the case and they help y'all out though, it's a tough situation.

Agree with you, if they are closed through July, they should let you bank your 2019 use year points into 2020
From everything I’m reading and what my son, who lives in Orlando is hearing around 6/1 looks like the target date for all the theme parks...

OT from the DVC discussion but I just got an email from Chase about 5x on DoorDash and Tock until 5/31 and while I do use the DashPass benefit since a lot of local places I like are on DD and not just the fast food chains, I literally have never even heard of Tock lol. And I have just about every delivery app that operates in NYC. I have a CSP so I’m also wondering if CSR gets a bigger bonus since it usually does.

I have the CSR, it’s the same 5x...actually think it’s 5x on the CFU and CF as well up to 2,500 points until 5/31
I’ve never heard of Tock either...but I’m by you out on LI

I just checked out the website and it looks like normally it’s like Open Table and have branched out for to go service...but for high end places. Like for NYC I was seeing the likes of Per Se, Eleven Madison Park, Aquavit, etc

...I think I’ll stick to my hole in the wall beef patty joints on DoorDash to use this bonus lol
