I've been offered the American Express Blue Cash upgrade offer. I have until next week to pull the trigger on it - upgrading my wife's BCE to a BCP. The bonus is $150 cashback for spending $1k (but we'll have to pay the $95 AF). We could hit the whole MSR in the 6% grocery category so I'm thinking about doing it for an all-in return > 10%. I passed on this back in the fall because it hadn't been a year since I did it before. I think the time is right to do it this time.

PA governor announced state liquor stores (the only game in town) would be closing tomorrow at 9 PM. You should have seen the line there just now! Looked to be an hour long. Dh wanted Scotch but we decided it wasn't worth the wait. I may check tomorrow morning. I can get beer and wine at the grocery store at least.
Gonna be faster to drive to another state 😂

Got my set up ready for work tonight and since I wanted to have it already connected to wifi I checked my email while I was there. They are closing the office as of noon tomorrow until the 30th except for essential employee's but the doors will be locked. I imagine someone to answer the phone and do the mail. Job sites are to continue as normal with increased cleaning continuing. Office is also getting a deep clean tonight but I think that's also partly due to the new cleaning company starting and the fact that it's the 3rd one cause the replacement for the bad one wasn't a good one either.

I'm not surprised Hilton Head DVC is closing. Seemed inevitable. Especially since my governor just canceled our election for tomorrow. Well, sort of. It's a mess. He doesn't have the power to stop it, so there was a lawsuit to stop and move it. Judge said no. So the governor is defying the action and the health department shutting it down. Which it isn't completely clear this is legal so it will be interesting to see what exactly happens in the morning. I'm glad I early voted. All the primary elections need to be moved to vote by mail. This is untenable.

Never been happier to live in a state with all mail voting. We've been this way for several years now, it's just so much easier. They did start paying postage last year but I've always just taken them and dropped them in a box. The only thing that bums me out is we don't get an I Voted sticker. Silly but it's the little things.

What's your use year? If you borrowed they will stay in the use year you borrowed them into. Just got another email today about this. I think this may be the problem a lot of DVC'ers are having. It's one of the reasons (among many) that I didn't cancel this trip as half or more of it were borrowed points and would expire Sep 30, and I would only want to do Hilton Head in summer, and it's mostly booked already for those dates.
I have an Aug UY. I'm not sure what to do. I'm definitely cancelling the 4 nights dvc that is 3/31-4/4. No brainer there and the points should go back to 2019 and I can bank them. But I have 4 nights booked in May. If some of those points are 2019 and not 2020, it will be too late to bank them, or is dvc making an exception in those cases?

I’m not supposed to think that way but lately my mind has been thinking “I only have about 5 weeks left so who cares?”. I had cake and ice cream last night with no regrets.

ooooh ice cream and cake... ice cream cake.... Is Baskin Robbins still open???

Is anyone else nervous about all of the guns being bought?

No, but it's par for the course here.

In another round of bad timing, Chase did launch the new United Club card today. 100k introductory bonus for 5k in spend, $525 AF not waived.

I'm seeing mixed message on if it's a new card or not. On the landing page it says "This product is available to you if you do not have any United Club card and have not received a new Cardmember bonus for any United Club card in the past 24 months."
Bold mine, but that would follow with the leaked terms DoC has listed.

But if you open the actual offer details it reads "this card" rather than "any card". So unclear if you have to wait 24 months after getting the Visa Signature version bonus like we thought.
"100,000 Bonus Miles: This product is not available to either (i) current Cardmembers of this credit card, or (ii) previous Cardmembers of this credit card who received a new Cardmember bonus for this credit card within the last 24 months. "

Also interesting as I don't recall seeing this language on Chase cards before:
"If your account is not open for at least six months, United and Chase reserve the right to deduct the bonus miles from your MileagePlus Program account."

DoCs post to compare for yourselves:

What the heck were they thinking?? NOW????
I was walking by my neighborhood brunch spot this morning as a group came out with one guy talking about the shotgun he was looking at buying. This was in San Francisco!

That's pretty amazing!

On gun sales. I think it's the la riots example. Areas with rooftop protection survived without theft and mayhem. When police are busy their response time will be atrocious. Katrina was lawless I hear. Society is a thin veneer to me.

Is it 2021 yet?

Eta need a new chase card. Cic for staples right?

So one more item to add to my stress:

My older stepson is 22 and has just been discharged from the US Navy. He was most recently stationed in Japan (yay), and the Navy sent him to Washington state upon his return to the US (what were they thinking?????). His original plan was to stay temporarily with a friend until his job on the east coast starts (not sure when), but get this: That friend is on a cruise right now (not sure which one, where, or where the cruise is trying to dock).

His mom just got out of the hospital with a condition that would most definitely classify her as a high risk group, but she hasn't seen him in over a year. But he probably shouldn't go see her, which sucks for both of them. So in all likelihood he would come stay temporarily (no idea how long) with us... and room with his younger (14) brother... who goes back and forth each week between our house and his mom's.

Just such a terrible thing all around.

I'm just over here doing my best to keep my local grocery store chain afloat and trying to meet that MSR! Oh and to keep up a cheerful face for the folks at work.

Glad you are having a good trip. Are any of the restaurants open for delivery or takeout? The restaurants are one of my favorite parts of HHI.

We arrived with groceries and daughter also went to Publix. On the way in they tried to go to Mi Tierra Surena (a take out mostly type place over by the airport that serves Hispanic food - had to edit as when we were driving she said Mi Tierra) but it was closed Sundays. I've done lunch takeout at Signals and Tide Me Over but haven't left the resort yet for anything else, so I haven't checked anywhere. I really planned on preparing most of our own meals anyway. For me it is healthier to cook, as I find it difficult to avoid carbs on most menus - Type 2 diabetes. We do order a lot of takeout at home but I work around like 5 Guys burger with no bun, no fries, or grilled chicken sandwich from Chick fil a and eat half the bun, etc. I was planning on Crazy Crab for shrimp but will probably not go now, even if they are open.

Today, I'm going out just to fill up my gas tank, and probably riding over to the beach house. I'll ask staff as I see them about the local restaurants. I'm pretty happy just being here and at the beach right now.

Haven't turned on any news here but will probably try to catch the local stuff some time later today.

Tent is an option.... or how about a VAN?

I have a van but just not here with me! And it has the fold down bed, but I've never had to sleep on it!

Hilton Head DVC is closing Friday? So sad, we were supposed to arrive 3/28. I knew it was a slim chance we could still go but 😭

Yes, it came on the resort room telephone at 9:38pm - you know how they time stamp the messages where the phone doesn't ring, just red light blinks, so I didn't see it right away. It was also on the website when I looked.

So sorry about your visit! It truly is so enjoyable to be here! Just a respite from what's to come in the next few weeks.

Is the Chase site acting weird for anyone else? I got logged in easily but all sorts of messages about "your activity may not be up to date but you can still make payments" and my UR portal (if that's the right word) is grayed out.

yay!!! Churning talk...makes the world feel somewhat normal.

No advice but I'm in a similar situation- I have 5 nights booked at BCV at the end of May mostly using points borrowed from my Feb 2021 use year. If I cancel there just isn't a lot of availability for any dates I could actually use them. We stay in a studio and those always book up the fastest to begin with. At this point I'm hoping DVC would let those points return to 2021, although I'm not sure it's even possible. So for now just hoping it's possible for May to still happen...

If I book a room on HH points, and the hotel has a resort fee, is that always just paid in cash (well... with my Hilton Amex)?

What they say and what actually happens in individual cases may be two different things. The biggest deal is are any borrowed? Borrowed points stay in the year they were borrowed into. They seem fairly adamant about that. If you borrowed from 2020 into 2019, you may be stuck using them by the end of your 2019 use year which is July 31, 2020. At least they won't be in holding which is a generous offer.

I've now got 35 points for Friday night that I'm not sure what status they will be when returned. I had 160 used in this reservation and some were borrowed and some were 2019 use year (October). My banking date is May 31 so I may get to bank depending on how the return shakes out. I'm not going to call attention to it and just wait and see what they do. Hopefully the points returned will be the bankable ones. There are some things they can do but I've seen the 'return to use year' stressed several times now. Meaning where the member put them is where they go back to. I've seen late banking allowed especially with new members, but not unborrowing. Just my experience - others may have had it done. It's the human factor so unpredictable in this case.
