We'll be staying at a Great Barrier Reef resort in September. I am petrified of deep water. Without my contacts I cannot see (do goggles work well enough that I can wear contacts?) I started following the resort on Insta in hopes of desensitizing myself with all the beautiful snorkeling pictures they post  My dh wanted to get scuba certified before the trip and I said NO WAY:scared1:

I have snorkeled another time and I believe I did wear my contacts that time. I know you can also get prescription goggles. My friend was able to rent them at one of the places they went and then bought some specific to his prescription. Good luck! I determined that it was actually better for me not to see so well, lol. I think I would have panicked more had a been able to see that huge thing coming at me, even if they are docile.

Can I say how much I detest the AMEX prepaid gift cards? You remember last week, when I checked the balances on mine, and one was now zero, even though funds never expire, because they gave the funds to the state? Well I went to use the other one online that still had $50 on it, and it was declined. So I used a different card to place the order. Well they deducted the amount from the balance anyway. I called and they said, your card was declined no purchases were approved. I said, yes I know, so why is my balance only $7.02. Yes that is your balance. Yes, but why? You must have made a purchase. No I did not, it was declined. Yes, I see your purchase was declined twice, and no purchases have been made with this card. So why is my balance $7.02?
UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was my bucket list item before bucket lists were invented. I wanted to be SCUBA certified and dive the GBR. Now that I might be able to put together a trip like that on points, I physically can’t dive. I’m not sure I’ll ever go to Australia, since diving GBR is out and the wildlife is so devastated with the current fires. 😢

I did the snorkel with the manatees when I was in HS. I grew up near Crystal River and while I have no problem being in the water, I do remember that the wetsuit I used didn't exactly keep me warm like I thought it would. Also, those manatees can sneak up on you quickly! They are very quiet in the water and I remember turning my head and one was right next to me. Scared the pee out of me! You know that they won't do anything to harm you but when something that size of a cow appears next to you unexpectedly, its scary! Overall though, I'd love to redo the experience with my kids, I think they would love it.

I’m so late to this new thread. This is as close as we got to the parks New Years week

although the view of the NYE fireworks from the Fort Wilderness beach was perfect. We paid off the pending balance on Jan 1 with my CSR to trigger the $300 travel credit. We were also supposed to use my husbands CSR for the last couple days of charges but he left it at home...along with the Disney gift cards, the champagne, the voucher for a pontoon rental :).

I know there are experienced investors here. My 15 year old son wants to open a small brokerage account to trade small amounts of stocks. I have a Schwab account (which I don’t use for trading) but I think it’s better for him to have his own for tax purposes (he has no income). I’m thinking TD Ameritrade? And just an individual account not an IRA correct?

I did order Disney GCs already, probably the only thing I’ll use it for. The actual warehouses are not too close and the opposite direction from everywhere else I shop/work/play. I have a (free) Costco membership with a convenient location.
I feel like it would be dishonest to cancel since the link I used isn’t actually supposed to trigger the credit.
Sam's has a 100% satisfaction guarantee clause on their membership - if you feel you are not satisfied with the membership then they'll refund it. It sounded to me that you are not satisfied with what you get for the membership fee, which is reasonable given what you bought wasn't known until after you purchased a membership. I read it as you'd be ok with it at a discounted price but for full price it's not, so if you get stuck with full price and don't plan to use it again, it's not unreasonable to exercise their T&C.

Now, yeah, if you had bought stuff every week for a year and then decided to cancel and wanted a full refund, that seems dishonest. But you legit don't sound satisfied with the current situation, which is what they created the clause for. Obviously it's up to you but I just wanted to give you an option.

I've been looking around trying to find it to see if it was still the same promo and finally found it! (it is - $20 for your friend, $10 for you) On phone and on the mobile site I couldn't figure it out, but switched to desktop view in the browser and easy peasy under the "Your account" drop down.

We'll be flip flopping this year. Mom had a membership for ages that I would use on occasion. Convinced her to do the trade off, so I got a new one last Jan and now in the next month or so we'll get a new one for someone this year. If another stackable deal doesn't come out, $30 in eGC + the Amex offer seems pretty good.

This really sounds like the best way to go. $10 referral fee, $20 ecert, $25 off membership offer and then $15 off $30. Daughter has an authorized user card that has both offers, so we will do this later this month.

As a minor I don't believe he can open an account on his own.

He would need to have some type of reportable income to open an IRA account so it would need to be just a brokerage account. I think any of the low/no fee companies would be fine.

Help!
Dd15 and I are leaving for Disney next Friday. Dh, who isn’t a Disney person, isn’t staying home with DS5 and Dd2. After watching Tim Tracker videos last night I said to Dh that he should be going. He said fine, he’ll go.
Do I keep things as is? Or bring them family. I have enough points to cover 90% off the flights and called Disney who can accomadate them in the room.
Even adding tickets won’t be that much bc I’ll drop park hoppers and deluxe dining.
So take money aspect out of it.

Do I want to change my stress free trip with DD to bring the kids in a double stroller, nap time, meltdowns?
I am doing the half marathon and really just want everyone there.
Especially after the cancer scare, I just want to celebrate the half and life with my family.
But man traveling with a 2 year old brings a certain level of misery to trips

Southwest anniversary points - how long does it take for those to post? My AF just hit on 1/1. I'll be cancelling my Biz card and PCing my Plus to a Priority.

I tried the confirmation # and the # disney gave me on the phone when I called and neither work.

I’m behind so not sure if you got it figured out yet or not, but I just added a confirmation number from AAvacations a couple weeks ago and can tell you what I did that worked. It’s in the email confirmation that they sent. Go down to where it says “your itinerary” and under that it gives a huge confirmation number that is two long numbers separated by a dash. The number that worked for me is the second number. The one after the dash. For me it was a 10 digit number beginning 1609xxxxxx. I can send you a screen shot if I’m not being clear enough. Hope that one works for you!

Can someone explain the SW benefit on the SW Biz performance?
4 upgraded boarding when possible?
Is that just for me? Family? Use it at airport if no one booked the expensive a-15 slots?

It's for the a1-15 slots. When you check in at the airport you can upgrade yourself or anyone(up to 4 ppl) to one of the a1-15 slots if they are available. You just charge it to the card and they reimburse the expense.

So the timing of anniversary points vs. Annual Fee is a combination of factors:
  • Your actual anniversary date (the day you opened the card)
  • Your statement closing date
  • The 1st of the month after your actual anniversary date
Some people's anniversary points post into their SW account before the AF is even charged. Others have the Anniv points post on the same statement their AF is on - all based on how these dates fit together. Do you recall what day you opened each of those cards? I assume both were in December. I would think that your anniversary points should post on both cards on your next statement AND that you should be able to avoid the AFs by taking the necessary cancel/PC steps at that time.

id argue that you would need to do this sooner vs later I am certified I love it I dream of going anywhere new tbh :)
