@wendow audiobooks and comedy tapes! Jim Gaffigan’s book is AWESOME as are all of his comedy albums! Also The Da Vinci Code series. You easily have 26 hours of material between all of those! My husband and I drive long distance a lot (or we used to!)
We desperately need comedy. Otherwise my dd is gonna cry the whole way home 😳

So, finally made a plan to get my dd home. I'm flying down on Tuesday morning and getting her packed up with the help of my wonderful aunt and uncle who were down there visiting her when the news broke that the DCP was ending for now. They extended their trip to help her.

I rented a van and will plan to leave Wednesday morning driving back to CO. It's a 26-hr drive. It'll just be me and dd. I need to figure out what the route looks like and where we can stay. I'm a little worried cause she is not able to drive the rental car and I'm not really a long distance driver (my dh always drives on road trips and I just provide the chatter to keep him awake lol).

I'd double check on the rental thing. I read yesterday among some of the CP stuff that some rental places were waiving the extra fee for under 25 for college students in case they need to rent to get home. Unless you don't want to pay the extra driver, but it could be worth asking when you pick it up about all of that to see what they might be doing.

Either way check the weather and either use 10, 70, or 40 across. I'd avoid going through Atlanta if you can. Stop at truck stops for gas etc, they are generally clean and have enough of what you need. We've done both 70 and 40 across along with 80 and 90 and all have pluses and minuses. Figure out after lunch where you want to aim to stop because you never know what might happen to cause delay or for you to get through a city faster. Remember that while points are great when you just need to sleep a choice brand hotel or a motel 6 are just as good and often cheaper. Just look online for what you can find. Plus a lot of the choice hotels have free breakfast, even if it's just cereal and muffins it still saves. Try and enjoy it and don't stress. And if you come upon something you want to stop at do. When I moved home from NC we planned to go through SD and stop at Mt Rushmore because I didn't plan to ever make a special trip just for it. Might've looked silly driving a uhaul towing my car behind it but it was fun and I'm glad we stopped.

Thanks for all the great tips! I did see enterprise was waiving the under 25 driver fee but we are using Alamo. I will ask though if they are waiving as well. I booked through Costco so I have the extra driver already included.

I think the route has us going up towards TN and cutting over to 70 somewhere - going through St Louis and KC and straight on to Denver. I'd rather go I-10 (it would be nostalgic as I made that trip so many times as a kid) but it's longer and so not sure we will take that route.

70 through there is good. One recommendation, whichever one of you is better at paying attention and watching the signs needs to navigate through KC. It may not be confusing if you are used to driving through there but it was one of the spots my mom drove because she doesn't pay enough attention and I had to be the navigator. She can't even read ahead on directions for me to say you turn right here then you'll turn left so we've had to turn around :sad2: Also have your camera ready, you'll be able to see the arch from the freeway in St. Louis. We went through shortly before sunset on a gray day so we didn't stop.

This was our first year with APs and my dd finally got into the dcp so I won’t let you take all the blame. Pretty sure I bear some responsibility 🤣
Our first time with APs as well. I'm glad they're extending them. I saw there was a form for DCP to fill out if they're interested in returning so I hope she gets to go again.

I'm coming to terms with the fact that my May trip might not happen. My boy didn't come home this weekend, and honestly not sure he can though we are pretty local, and he's not great at replying to my texts so I'll catch up with him soon and make a decision. I'm hoping July is fine and he might be able to go then. Then I owe my younger son a birthday trip at some point since his not quite birthday birthday trip is likely not happening.

Is United doing the same? Do you know?
Unknown. According to the FT thread UA is a flaming you know what show right now. If you’ve got a UA award flight up to 4/30 and want to cancel for a mileage re-deposit I would look to get on the phone with them. From what I saw on Twitter yesterday that team was not waiving re-deposit fees 😡

They'll formally announce tomorrow but they are closing all restuarants, bars, entertainment and recreational centers in WA tomorrow and in my county it's supposed to be immediately but I don't know how that works. My mom's annoyed she can't go to the gym now and doesn't get it when there was only 8 other people there friday at 9am. Well yeah cause everyone was working, go at 530 and it's way different. I'm just glad it'll force her to stay home. And happy the weather will be dry and in the mid to upper 50's all week so she can walk outside and I can run Wed outside. With this change and them also enforcing the 50 people thing I wouldn't be surprised to see them make most of us work at home, or at least those that's job allows. I have my orientation and safety training at 6:30am so I guess I may find out then otherwise when I finally get into work around 11 since I'm at the other office for this stuff.

Thanks for the info. The flights are in June. I'll sit tight for now and wait for United to cancel them.

I've cancelled dd17's March trip and I cancelled dh & I's April trip. Still hanging on to the May trip but definitely not hopeful at all. After that, our summer gets crazy busy. Now all those things could get cancelled but if all those things are cancelled, then wdw is probably still closed too. Not sure when we'd be able to take another trip there. We had such high hopes for our first AP's lol!

When were your APs originally going to expire?

Received an email from department chair about all the work we have to do to transition our university courses to online delivery, try to prevent the spread, be flexible, etc. My favorite line "We are very fortunate to have the option to work remotely and still get paid...please record each day as 8 hours (annual leave) if you choose to work remotely during the coming week." So, we still have to do all the work, but also use leave time if we do it while working remotely. :confused3 Isn't that illegal??

Definitely need another vacation. Back to accruing points!
Welp. No one is gonna work remotely at your school. That’s preposterous.
