Can somebody talk to me about the Express Pass Unlimited and staying at Hard Rock (or other top tier Uni hotels). When we check in - what happens? Are we given a band or a card or something that includes that benefit? Do we have to prove that we've purchased park tickets and for how many days?

I specifically ask because of my whole ticket issue:
- My sister is going to show up and check-in Saturday morning - her room has 4 people in it including my parents who aren't coming until later
- My clan and my parents will show up Saturday afternoon
- My sister may end up picking up all 8 tickets - obviously I have no idea how that will play out

So I'm trying specifically to figure out if my sister will pick-up the Express Pass Unlimited for my parents, and basically how the whole thing will work. If anybody knows the ins and outs of this I'd appreciate it.

When you check in, your room key will also be your express pass. No proof of a park ticket is necessary. Your sister will be able to get all 4 room keys/express passes at check in. I had to do this when my DS's friend was coming after our arrival. They just asked for his name and printed out his key/express pass which we handed to him later.

ETA: express pass is tied to your hotel stay, not your park tickets. So the express pass will be vaild from the day you check in through the end of the day you check out regardless of how many days are on your park ticket.

Awesome! So then when I check-in my kids will get room keys that I can hold on to for their express pass as well?

Correct. DS has a log in for the Chase Freedom but will need to make a new Log in once the CIP arrives (as it is a business card). Once he has the Business Log In then he can have Chase combine his personal accounts in with the Business Accounts so he will be able to see both cards under that log in.
If he's approved, can we call in that same day to expedite? how soon can we do that?

I was just looking at the different cards. Looks like the Discover IT and Discover Student IT are the same except the Student Card you can get a credit for good grades. Is that correct? Anything I am missing.

I think so? I know she used a Dischurner link and I think you could pick your card from there? I don't remember. 2nd DD used her sister's link. They both have the rotating categories and the good grade bonus.

Well, I have like 20,000 Southwest miles left and my SO's companion pass expires at the end of 2020. I think in 2020 I am going to try and MS 110,000 with the Southwest credit card for the companion pass. Assuming Ebates continues to give 1% for Giftcardmall purchases I would pay $257.40 for 200 500 Giftcards. on a good day I can MS 10 cards at a time. So best case scenario it would take me 20 days of 3 hours of work. So 60 hours. Is 60 hours of work and $257 worth 110,000 Southwest miles and a companion pass? Should I just fly other airlines?

More math: 110,000 Rapid Rewards are worth $1650. Minus fees $1392.6. divided by 60 hours that's 23.21 an hour but since I pretty much always fly with my SO the companion pass basically doubles it so it should be $50.71 an hour. (110,000 RR with the companion pass is like 220,000 RR for me minus fees $3,042) Thats not awful. or that same 100,000 in MS is worth 200,000 MRs with the BBP (if that still works) which is $2,500 when I cash out. I should just MS everything lol.
Seriously MS goals here! I do have a question. Do you liquidate all those GCs with Serve? Or are you able to do Money Orders?

We'll be there! My DH got a weird email saying his registration was going to be canceled if he didn't contact Guest Services. He emailed them asking what he needed to do and they emailed saying he was all set. Apparently he didn't have an eventbrite confirmation before. Not sure what he did. But it's all settled! Maybe they kicked out a bunch of people and that's what freed up tickets.
I think a lot of people “preemptively” signed up (like the SW preview) and now UO is making sure people are actually coming. I recently joined the UOAP FB page and people were talking about the emails and they had to respond by 7/31 and some people were saying how they have released tickets so I just kept checking and one by one was able to snag the 3 I needed. I am hoping it’s not super crowded. I thought it was a great opportunity since we are already going to be there.

Yes. You can call right away. Since DS had a log in for his other card. I went in and sent a SM to Chase - told them I (pretending to be DS) was just approved for the CIP card and could they expedite. They sent a message a bit later and said it had been expedited. Expect to get card today or tomorrow as it was expedited on Monday.

The Discover does have the $50 signup bonus. Plus this quarter is PayPal which could be easy to get 10% back on $1500 with a P2P transaction if nothing else.

My DDs both have the rotating category Discover and one applied last year and the other this year. Also didn't realize there was 2 different ones.
My dd is maximizing that Paypal category too with P2P :)

Five Citi Biz cards? Idk any master cards that have anything special when you spend 25k. But I'm curious to hear what you are considering.
I’m thinking 5 citi AA cards as well if you have a use for those miles. But you can only open every 95 days so you’d want p2 involved and it’d still be the better part of a year getting that many unless you were willing to get personal cards too.
Yeah, I'm kind of in limbo right now with CitiBiz. My #2 is still open (I closed #1 last week), I'm waiting for the $250 statement credit when it closes this weekend, then I can close that one. But I have a CitiBiz mailer that expires today, which I was thinking of trying even past the expiry date. Maybe it will work??? The winds are in flux with Citi these days. Still, you're right, wendow, that it would take quite a while due to the 95 day spacer, and I wanted to pay this car loan off earlier. DH's CitiBiz#2 (same public offer I used for #2 and it worked for me) didn't get the SUB; I even chatted with Citi twice, and got two snail mail letters saying that he wasn't eligible since he has/had the product in the past 24 months. I actually use AA miles for flights, and with the rumors of AA changing to dynamic award pricing, I'm not sure if it's still a worthwhile program to amass miles in for us? I'm used to getting 1.4cpm out of them...

Are you looking at only Mastercards? Visa allows payment of auto loans via Plastiq, too. Is Chase out of the picture (>5/24)? Are personal cards ok?
I pay car loans on Plastiq on a VISA. If you can get it to code as car loan you are not limited to MC.
WHAT. 🤯 Wow, I just assumed that loans of any kind had to be on MC or Discover. I haven't had a car loan in ages so I never looked at that. Well, that changes the picture!! Thank you for letting me know!

DH is 3/24, so personal cards are ok - I'm keeping an eye on his 5/24 for a SW CP 2021-2022 since mine expires 12/31/2020, and I want to leave room for him to get a Schwab Plat. I was planning on referring him to CIP3 in August, and then I wanted to get him the Hyatt card (hoping for a higher SUB to come back). He currently has 3 personal Chase (CF, CFU, Marriott) and 3 biz Chase cards (CIP1, United, CIP2), with 2 of the biz cards opened in the past 6 months. I better go check on his CLs!

I'll be 4/24 in mid August. So I was thinking of going for CIP3 through DH's referral then.

Am I remembering correctly that car loans don't impact your 5/24 status?

Well, shoot, if the CIPs are approved and the car loan codes on Plastiq properly, that's 210K URs ( worth $3150 for travel with my CSR) right there! Leaving me $15K for other MSRs, cool.

hmmm JetBlue is MasterCard . If you spend $50k you get Mosaic status. Too bad arrival + is dead. Or Citi AA for many miles

I haven't flown JetBlue yet although I'd like to since I've heard good things about them. But I've had a SW CP for 5 years and my current one is good through 12/31/20, so almost all my flights are on SW. Fortunately, I did churn Arrival+ for both me and DH earlier this year before it died, got lucky there. See above for my Citi AA dilemma.

:flower3:THANKS EVERYONE for your input! I'm still listening if anyone else has thoughts!

I believe they are the same except for the good grades. My aunt has the regular Discover IT and her benefits are all the same as my dd's, minus the good grades bonus.

Seriously MS goals here! I do have a question. Do you liquidate all those GCs with Serve? Or are you able to do Money Orders?

I use the ones I get from Giftcardmall to get money orders. They have my name on them and cute designs so it’s not obvious that it’s a giftcard. I do this because I max four serves a month with GCs that are obviously GCs from either staples or the grocery store. I’m hoping to get BlueBirds soon so I can MS 40k a month between Serve and BlueBird.

I’d definitely do the CIPs then. I find spending 15k for the Hyatt free night is worth it. You would also get the signup bonus and a free night certificate every year plus the second free night if you spend 15k.

Awesome! So then when I check-in my kids will get room keys that I can hold on to for their express pass as well?
Yes, exactly. What a lot of people do, myself included, is buy a lanyard at Universal (they sell them everywhere) that has a clear pouch on it. Put your park ticket on one side, and your room key/express pass on the other since the express pass will need to be scanned for every ride. Your kids can wear their own this way and you won't have to keep pulling out 4 keys.

I know :( Got my dh the BBP two weeks ago with no SUB. Really painful.

Does the Discover IT not have a SUB anymore? It was small, iirc $50, but it is a good way to begin the cc journey. Also the 5% categories are lucrative, especially with the CB match for a year.
The Discover does have the $50 signup bonus. Plus this quarter is PayPal which could be easy to get 10% back on $1500 with a P2P transaction if nothing else.

I believe the $50 statement credit is only for support links, or possibly affiliate links. The public app only mentions the cashback match and 0% interest, both of which you also get with a support/affiliate link. (I mention affiliate links because at one point if you applied through Amazon you got a $75 credit instead. Not sure what it might be now, might be Amazon credit or something. Who knows what they have out there now. But always have to weigh the odds of fulfillment, I decided to go support for the certainty)

Yep, same card, just that one added perk that's only good while you're a student (capped at 5 years I think)
I think they don't give you as long for the intro 0% interest period. I thought I saw 6 months when I looked briefly this morning; a regular card goes for 14 months.

I am currently using P2's CIP to pay our car loan. The loan is also through Chase. Attached is how it coded on P2's CIP.

What’s the max for Serve?
