Anyone have a smart speaker like Alexa? What do you use it for? Thinking of getting one with the deal running...just not quite sure what you can do with it other than asking it about the weather.
We have three. We use it to control the lights we have connected to smart plugs, including the Christmas tree lights. It works nicely with the Fire TV stick, we can ask Alexa to play Outlander on Netflix without dealing with the remote. It’s handy for trivia, for example we knew Steve Martin worked at a Disneyland but wondered which high school he attended. Alexa helped with that. Gets a little annoying when you’re watching a TV show with names that sounds similar to Alexa. During the episodes of The Americans with the character named Alexei, we had to turn off the speaker because she kept responding. I use it to play Amazon Music or a playlist from my iPhone. Alexa will sing Happy Birthday at a party or talk like Picachu.

I was gifted an Echo Dot a couple of years ago. We use it for kitchen timers mostly. I do like the Flash Briefings, but as often as not I listen on the Alexa app in my car on the way to work. For a while we were listening to a lot of music on it, which was good, but I cancelled Spotify and don't use it for music much any more.

For us it's not really worth it now that we don't play music on it, but I guess I like having it. It does have a lot of features, so I don't doubt that people get a lot of value from them.

Davina Porter is great. I listened to her narrate all 55 hours of The Mists of Avalon lol.

Also: Robot Dinosaur Hotel

Fact. And if you have a cell phone with signal, Big Brother can find you.

Onstar too. Even if you think you don't have Onstar service, they're still watching lol.
They're watching us in Test Track??? :scared:
Did you guys see they’re building a walking path between GF and MK?
I've never stayed at GF or Poly but the whole plan makes me so happy. I think the option will be great!

I’ve never stayed at either of those either but this walkway is a nice option.
Got an email from Staples offering $50 off my online purchase of $100 or more. Read the fine print and no mention of gift cards being excluded! Just a heads up.
Is this a targeted offer?
Has anyone seen where it will go? I assume it would kind of have to go under the monorail track?

Haha! To be fair, your MB is watching everywhere you go in WDW lol
It’s supposed to connect to that path that’s kind of already there but has a dead end. It does go under the monorail

Good morning everyone! This is my first post ever on DisBoards. I do listen to the podcasts and watch the Dis YouTube Channel regularly though. I ran across this thread and found it very interesting and I'm slowly making my way through each page. I'm very interested in Credit Cards and their rewards / points system and am very eager to learn about it. I wanted to see if anyone could recommend a website or a blog that I could read through to learn the basics of it all. I've heard of The Points Guy (seen a few sponsored adds on FB) and a few other blogs out there but I didn't know if there was one that you all recommended to someone who is very new to all of this. Thank you all in advance for any advice you may be able to give me or website you might be able to recommend to me as to where to start.

Welcome! I don’t have a specific blog post to recommend. A lot of us don’t really like the points guy because he pushes his referral links even if there is a higher offer out there. He provides good information to get started but just be careful using his links. I’d ask here if there is a higher offer. Basically the game is just applying for credit cards for the bonus hitting the spend requirement and getting a new card. Some of us only get a few cards a year or some of us have gotten over 40 credit cards in the last two years (me and my SO lol) If you look at the questions on the first post and tell us about yourself we can provide some specific advice. If you also only want one card or two we can recommend cards for that purpose too.

We bought a big generator so we’ll still be able to run the fridge
I think you bought your generator at HD? Most of those generators probably won’t run your house’s AC. The best they will do is portable AC plus fridge plus a few lights. As someone mentioned, a whole house generator will keep you going as if nothing happened but you need a large tank of fuel, probably buried and the permitting requirements for those are stringent. I know you are taking it serious (as everyone should!) and I don’t want you to have surprises in the middle of a storm. Also, make sure you buy enough fuel cans that you can fill before a storm.
