So DH and I have been discussing our travel plans including the Olympics next year. I am somewhat discouraged by the lack of availability of tickets and the fact that the lottery has now been pushed back ANOTHER week. I’m not going to spend a fortune on crappy tickets for events I don’t want. And given how they’re discussing the popularity of these games, I’m worried we’ll be priced out of hotels, etc. even with using points if they’re really jacking the prices up on stuff. So now we’re discussing still going to Japan next year, but either doing it in early July or late August. Early July will probably be better for our schedules. I’m going to look and see what the lottery looks like on July 9, but if things aren’t looking great then we might just be making this a Japan vacation. Which frankly is still totally fine by me! Going to look at our options over the next couple weeks and try to make a decision.

We’ve also been discussing future vacation plans. DH’s favorite comedian does a NYE show every year in Hawaii and he’s always wanted to go. I can’t make it happen for this year, but I told him we could probably make it happen for NYE 2020. So I guess I need to go check out the Reddit board on Hawaii tips!

Our family loves the Wave. We go every trip, great filet mignon! I read that they may close and change it to a steakhouse with characters. I hope it stays the way it is!
I would be very upset if they did that. They already have chef mickey’s they don’t need another character meal there. Dh and I don’t do character meals. We both ate the beef short rib and it was so good. I could go back and eat it again today lol
The lounge is really nice too. We discovered it a few months ago when we had to leave Fort Wilderness because of a storm and were waiting it out at the Contemporary. It’s a nice adult space (but one of my kids was with me and that was okay too). Love the lounges on the boat/monorail loop.

Reddit users, what do you use to browse Reddit? I have the app on iOS but it’s very basic. I can’t pick up where I left off after reading a few posts in one of the lengthy daily discussion/question threads. There’s no good search option that I’ve found. It’s useful to save comments but that’s about all I can figure out.
On my iPhone I use safari. It’s quirky but works. The search tool @Lain posted is what I use as well.

Sitting in my dad’s shoulders watching the MSEP is the earliest memory I have of Disney. The music makes me tear up. I’ve never considered going to DL before but now I feel i must.
You're not alone. MSEP is a really special parade for my family and we see it every chance we get.
I saw the MSEP in 1976 and 1978 with my dad and my uncle who are both gone now. So many memories of seeing the parade and then going shopping for our *one* souvenir.

We had a day trip in 1976 and then we stayed overnight at the Disneyland hotel in 1978. I remember how it looked then with the monorail going alongside the huge (to me) parking lot. It was the first time I had ever seen an olympic size swimming pool!

I tried to imagine the past when dh, the kids, and I stayed at the Disneyland hotel in 2014
Wonderful memories. I stayed at the DLH around that same time, too, but I'm not sure the exact year but it must have been either 77 or 78. My father took me on a special trip and I remember that giant pool and taking the monorail to the park. I remember they were trying out a new ticket - unlimited rides for the day instead of buying those A-E tickets, and IIRC it was less than $20. We got them since my Mom was usually the one who stood in line for those tickets all the time and she didn't go on that trip and it was so neat not to have to deal with the tickets each time we wanted to ride something. :goodvibes

I didn't mean to disparage MSEP. I completely understand that there's a lot of fond memories tied up with that parade. I'll share my wife's story.

My DW and her parents made a special trip to Disneyland in 1996 for the Farewell Season of the MSEP. It's a special memory for her, especially now that her mom is gone. We saw MSEP again in 2015 at Magic Kingdom. That was my first time watching it, and I thought it was cute and whimsical. It held more meaning for my wife because it was her turn to share the parade with our DD. But while there's a lot of tradition and nostalgia associated with MSEP for DW, even she admits PTN is a superior nighttime parade. That's just our personal opinions.

Awe, I like it too! My girls take piano lessons and have a book of Disney songs they are learning...one is currently learning the song that goes with the parade (I’m sure some of you are cringing reading that ha ha, but it really doesn’t bother me!)
my sis and I did the same! cue the piano music to the parade!!!!

I’m gonna do a short trip update:

We ate at whispering canyon cafe last night and the food was just okay. The atmosphere was really fun though! It was fun passing ketchup around from table to table. Villain dah was so much fun! I loved it! I danced a bunch in the hub right in front of the castle where the dj was. I wouldn’t do it again but for a one time thing it was fun.

Today we slept in and hung at the hotel. Then we ate dinner at the wave and omg was that good. Dh said it might have been his favorite at wdw. It’s probably in my top 3 restaurants here. We also played pinball in their arcade for over an hour. Spoiler: I’m kinda good at pinball and got to put my initials on the Star Wars pinball machine.

We’re doing rope drop at hs tomorrow. I’m trying to decide what time to get to the bus stop at wilderness lodge. It opens at 9, I want to get there at 8, so I’m thinking get to the bus stop at 7:20 ish.
The Wave...... I was there for an entire week this month...only went to ONE park day,and still managed to NOT get to the Wave for a meal! I don't know how that happened but I love it there! (I wish we had gone there instead of Olivias after our MK day now....) ah well I'm sure it'll still be there in a couple of years! ETA after reading some pp's.....I sure hope they don't change it! If my DSis hadn't gotten sick,we probably would have had time to go to the Wave.... but thank goodness for the local walkin clinic that also picks up until midnight!

I asked elsewhere but no love..... I'm looking at a 1 night stay somewhere in/near Orlando to use up my Bonvoy 35k night....suggestions? I'm hoping for free breakfast and no extra resort/parking charges.... but if not that then a place that's 'worth it' for the extra cost for just one night. We fly in at about 8 pm one night, and heading south the next day, but a nice pool for the evening might be nice.

I’m not impressed with the busing at wilderness lodge at all. The times for Hollywood studios don’t work so you never know when a bus is coming. Dh missed the bus because he ran back to the room and now has to meet me there.

ETA: and it stops at the contemporary?! What?!

I cannot imagine this would every happen, for two reasons. They closed a Steakhouse there already, and there is another character meal there.

Orlando World Center Marriott is not that far from the airport and close to 4 - not sure where south you are going. The pools were very nice but no free breakfast (unless maybe you are platinum) and not sure what the fee for parking might be, but its 35K per night. Other than that there are lots of fairfields and residence inns with free breakfast and no parking fees that I would not have a problem choosing although most of them are on the less expensive end.

Another 35k option is Gaylord Palms. I've stayed at both of these but it's been a few years.

I've also wanted to try the Bohemian Hotel in Celebration, also 35K.

Oof. Fingers crossed it’s a delay the expenses to Q3 move here! Thanks for the heads up, I’m looking at pulling the trigger on Hilton Aspire & upgrading to a 2nd as well and this is definitely part of that equation...

Maybe that explains my still missing free night certs.:headache:

There is that marriott village that has a couple options.

:( I’ve been watching for my Ascend cert but haven’t seen it (my deal offered one night cert if I paid the next years AF). While Amex still has a couple months to get it to me people were reporting this particular cert being processed a week or more before their anniversary date so I’ve been hopeful it shows up so I can continue along and upgrade the card without losing that cert.
