I love credit cards so much! v2.0 (see first page for add'l details)

Yes, absolutely! You need to call Chase at the number on the back of the card to PC. Chase doesn't allow PC via SM anymore. But yes, do it! The Chase Freedom card actually earns URs! And this quarter should be easy to maximize with 5%/5x UR at grocery and home improvement stores.

Thank you! Excited for this. Is the Freedom 3% all the time except when there are rotating categories that earn more or am I confusing it with another card?

Thanks for the info! I'l be at VGF for the first time this weekend and can't wait! How did the deluxe dining work with the multiple reservations? Did you add it to a one night stay? Do you have to use all the credits that one day?

Usually for a one night dining plan with DVC you have day of check in until midnite day of checkout, so you've essentially got 2 full days to use it. That's why it works well for the Deluxe Dining plan since you get 3 meal credits which can be a regular lunch or dinner or a signature dinner plus a regular dinner, or 3 separate meals, breakfast being one if you so choose. Plus your mug and your 2 snacks. Now, I've got to go check in case it has changed!

Ok, thanks. That makes sense. Does this still work out if you have an AP and can get a discount on food if paying OOP?

I just got a Memorial Day promo from Plastiq (well DH did) so check your emails. Was hoping to use it to meet the MSR on his Barclay card but doesn’t look like that will happen.

But I think our new Citi cards should be here by then so I can use to knock out one of those.

Have I mentioned how much I despise Barclays at the moment >:(

Details:
To celebrate Memorial day, we’d like to make you an exclusive offer. Make a one-time payment of $10,000 or less to a new recipient with your US-issued Mastercard and get a 1.0% Plastiq fee.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Set up a payment for a recipient/vendor you haven’t successfully paid before
  2. Enter a payment amount up to a maximum of $10,000
  3. Submit or schedule a one-time payment using a US-issued Mastercard
  4. On the payment review page, make sure your payment is scheduled to be processed before 11:59 PM EST on May 31, 2019.

I hate how there are lines here every time a new place opens up. The lines for Din Tai Fung are still long, even after a couple of years, although not as bad as they were in the beginning. I'm not willing to wait in line for my dinner. I haven't heard about those 2 places. Maybe I'll have to look into them and then wait until they aren't new and the crowds die down.

Are you able to go on weekday nights? I've walked in twice on a Tuesday and Wednesday with only 10 mins wait.

Ok, thanks. That makes sense. Does this still work out if you have an AP and can get a discount on food if paying OOP?

I think it depends on where you are planning to eat. You do get the mug for the next week or more also, even on a 1 night stay. As usual, you have to do the math for your own situation.

I'm looking to apply for another card or two. We are in 2 player mode, so I'll list what we both have:

me:
01/19 - Chase - Ink Bus Preferred
08/18 - AmEx - Green Business (to close Gold Business w/o losing points)
08/17 - Citi - TY Premier
03/17 - Chase - CSP (closed 4/18)
01/17 - Chase - CSR (converted to CFU)

So, I'm at 1/24 with the Citi TY.

DH:
03/19 - Chase - Ink Bus Preferred
05/18 - Chase - Ink Bus Preferred
08/17 - Citi - TY Preferred
03/17 - Chase - SW Plus (closed)
03/17 - Chase - SW Premier (closed)
10/16 - Chase - CSR
OLD - CF - DH also has a Chase Freedom card which he's had forever.

DH looks like he is also at 1/24.

We love UR's, but neither are eligible for CSP/CSR.
I just converted 110,000 worth of MR points for Carnival gift cards to use on our cruise this summer, but otherwise, don't really know what to do with MR points (unless I went the Charles Schwab route).
DH received a mailer for 150,000 points for the Hilton Ascend card (which looks a little higher than the standard offer), but don't have an immediate need for Hilton points that I know of.

Looking for suggestions - I'm hoping to keep spot(s) open to go for the SW CP early next year.

Thanks for any suggestions / advice!

The Freedom earns 5x UR on quarterly rotating bonus categories, up to $1,500 in spend. This quarter’s 5x categories are grocery and home improvement stores. We’ll probably find out Q3’s categories around 6/15/19. The Freedom is a 1x UR card for all other non-bonus category spend, and for spend in bonus categories over $1,500.

The 3%/3x UR on everything you’re thinking about is probably the Freedom Unlimited’s current promotional rate in the first year, up to $20,000 in spend, which then drops down to 1.5x UR after you hit $20k or in the second year, whichever is earlier. But note that the 3x first year offer does not include a signup bonus. The CFU also does not have the Freedom’s 5x UR bonus categories; it’s just a straight 3x UR or 1.5x UR on everything.

Think I have finally decided on my official plan...

DH: CIP 3 on June 1st (think this is too crazy?)
AMEX Plat 75k offer (I can pull this up pretty reliably incognito, can't find the 100k, I did try dischurner links but no luck...)

Me: CIP 3 if still around in July

Ok this is not much of a plan... CIP MSRs will be via Plastiq/Auto loan. But even putting $5k on DHs CIP in June, would leave us with almost $5k to put towards it still. And he is getting an even bigger commission payout next month, which will go towards the July budget...

Me: 'officially' 3/24, 8/24 with Chase incl biz cards
05/19 Barclays AA Biz? Still pending
04/19 CIP 2
03/19 Citi AA Biz (3/29)
01/19 A+
01/19 CIC
10/18 CIP 1
07/18 Hilton Biz
10/17 SPG Biz
09/17 CFU
09/17 Marriott Personal
05/17 SW Biz
05/17 SW Plus
Older Cards: Discover It, SPG Personal (recently upgraded to Brilliant), No fee Disney, Freedom (downgraded CSR - CSR bonus was 11/16)

DH: 'officially' 3/24, 6/24 with Chase incl biz cards
05/19 Barclays AA Biz
03/19 Citi AA Biz (3/30)
03/19 CIP 2
11/18 SW Priority
10/18 SW Biz
08/18 SPG Lux/Bonblech Brilliant
08/18 Hilton Biz
05/18 CIP 1
08/17 CSR
Older Cards: Discover It, SPG Personal, No fee Disney, A+ (planning to close), BoA Cash Reward card, Cap1 Venture

My DH applied for CSP 2 months ago, is it safe to apply for CIP? Or should he wait for 3 months?
He is 1/24 now..............

I usually wait 3 months, but have applied and been approved with 2 months between applications...what other Chase cards has he applied for prior to the CSP...also look at his CLs and reduce if needed prior to applying

@Kawnipi I will leave you with a few last pictures and an admonition. Step outside your comfort zone on this island. It will be richly rewarding and your son will never ever forget it. I hope you'll come back and tell us how much you enjoyed your time there when March rolls around... all too fast. Visit the upcountry towns of Makawao and Kula. Head off for a day of driving the incredible West Maui Mountains. Go on a Whale Watch out of Maalaea Harbor. Visit the quaint towns of Lahaina and Paia. Make a visit to Ulapalakua Ranch and sample some wine, while enjoying lunch with a beautiful view and some sassy trinkets in the general store. Step off the beaten path. I promise you won't regret it.;-)

@hulagirl Thank you for all of the beautiful pictures and advice. There is indeed lots of beauty in the world just off the beaten path. We'll try to go out and find it during our trip. Hopefully I'll be able to convince my wife to head back and check out the other islands. She still wants to head to Ireland and Europe but I'll keep lobbying for a return visit. My son is just excited to go anywhere:)

My thanks to @Lain @mmmears, @afan, @GlamMistress, @Wanderlust, @plastamama @Calfan and anyone else I missed who took the time to responded with a comment or suggestion on my upcoming visit to Hawaii. All of your have given me a great advice and a starting point on my planning for the trip. I am glad it is 9 months away as my wife and I have lots to research. I'll try and report back post trip and post a picture or 2 though I doubt they will be as nice as @hulagirl or @Lain pictures.

Mahalo to all.

I am assuming if you PC to the CFU you will not get the 3%? DH has become a metal card snob so when his year his up I will PC rather than close, just to appease him a little longer.

Once the card has gone from a CSR to a CFU do you need to keep it open another year? Will Chase make an unhappy face if you close it earlier, or do they only look at the original card open date?

Nope, a PC will only get you the 1.5x everything earn rate. You can close a PCed card anytime after the original first year.

Saw Aladdin earlier. It was really good. The costumes are great, it should, I hope at least get an Oscar nom for them. Bit of a change in the story from the animated and I think stage but since I've only seen the stage once I can't quite remember. It's a good compliment to the other two but not as good as the stage show. Though the beginning of the movie is awesome.
